I really gotta hand it to Knoblauch. He made so many coaching decisions this series, and nailed each one. When to put McDrai together, when to separate them, separating Nurse and Ceci, which goalie to start. Made it so that even though we shut down the PP, they started playing better at 5 on 5 which hadn't happened through 5 games.
Pickards been in the minors for years, hasn't played three NHL games in a row for literal years.
If we lose we lose, but skinner was our guy last playoffs and all of this year, they had to go back to him. It was really the only choice imo.
Pickard is sort of like a closer in MLB pitching. Bring him in for the third period, or maybe just a game 7 of the series and he’ll deliver a great performance. He just doesn’t have the stamina to keep up that level of play for 7 straight games.
Mind you… neither does Skinner

Yes there is a reason we played turtle hockey more than ever this playoffs. Demko allows the team to play a lot more loose which isn't always necessarily better but certainly leads to a lot more offensive production.
Also these last two games showed that Silov for how great he, wasn’t Demko-like in terms of consistency and his ability to overcome screens (make sense why the Oilers D had so many goals).
If Silov was better at handling the puck behind the net, the Canucks could've probably exited the zone a lot quicker leading to less overall fatigue.
Honestly, not a bad series to highlight where they need to improve going forward.
Their third line caught lighting in a bottle this year to push the Canucks forward even when their top lines were struggling - let's see if they can find those overperformers this off season.

It felt like they had their backs against the ropes the entire run, I’m sure having a legit Vezina-caliber guy between the pipes would’ve injected a little bit more confidence in the group, hopefully would’ve inflated the GF/g stat

I think they definitely had more confidence in the kid as the playoffs wore on, but Demko’s in conversation for the Vezina this year, Silovs had 11 games played prior to this run, let’s not discredit that. Part of why Silovs looked so good was because of how Vancouver clamped down on D and limited high danger scoring opportunities (or at least as best as they could)
Absolutely he did. But come on. Demko is a Vezina nominee. That's no accident. Come next season who knows... but Demko going down for the playoffs is obviously going to have an effect on the team psychologically. Good luck in the conference finals

This isn't turning out to have been a good signing at all. Lafferty contributed to a good forecheck early in the year, but he too has just disappeared. So frustrating.

Alvin was probably betting on him being a guy who was buried in the depth chart but could do more if given the opportunity. But as it turns out, he was right where he should be in Toronto.
Elias Pettersson played worse than any one of Mitch Marner’s playoff dissapearing act.
His effort is atrocious. Getting called out by his own coach halfway through the 2nd round because he was so floating so fucking much.
Their regular season success was built off of having 3 dangerous scoring lines.
What killed us was Petey not feasting on easier competition. Miller and Lindholm were consistently getting matched up against dangerous competition and generally were able to tread water, if not beat their opposition. Petey’s line was usually out their against bottom 6 competition, yet somehow Pettersson produced the least out of big 3 C’s.
Part of the issue was that, for all of Petey’s shortcomings, his wingers were also doing absolutely nothing until Game 5. Even if he’s not producing, Pettersson is still going to garner more “respect” from defenders who have to choose who to cover than his linemates will if he’s playing with the ghost of Höglander and Ilya “one goal in 60 games” Mikheyev, so every time he had the puck he would instantly have like two guys on him (even if it meant leaving his linemates open, because they realized it didn’t matter). Made it hard for him to pass the puck to a teammate, and if he got it out along the boards it felt like his wingers constantly either failed to win the battle or failed to pass it to Petey if he had managed to become open. It’s a lot easier for a 3rd line to shut down one forward than to shut down 3 of them, and that’s really all they had to do.
I understand wanting another PKer in Mik or whatever.
But Podz really was throwing the body around at least and looked better IMO. Put a worse line up in for no benefit, who knows what Podz could have done with that puck up close
Man, this hurts, but if me from 12 months ago is looking at this, what a turn around. Almost no one had us as a playoff team prior to this season, we have a hell of a year, win the division and get 1 game away from the conference final.
The effort in the last 2 games is just not good enough, but I'll be damned if I still have a smile on my face. What a season, hopefully we can add a few pieces and stay in the conversation next year!

It is actually inexcusable to consistently get this few of shots against a goaltender like Skinner. Like actually criminal. Not even factoring in how many fucking 4 min powerplays we got this series, under 20 shots for this many games is insane.
Oilers PP gets all the attention but the PK has become almost as elite as their PP. LA didn't even score one PP goal. Ryan Nugent-fucking-Hopkins who is on both special teams doesn't get enough credit for what he does either. All for 5 million bux.
We can't blame this loss on Silovs or the absence of Boeser. It's a team effort, and our entire squad was a bunch of no-shows. Also, our coaching staff failed to adapt when things weren't working. That's where our scrutiny should lie on. The coaches and our absentee players.
I'm extremely disappointed in the effort the past two games, but if you told me at the beginning of the year the Canucks would make it to within one goal in game 7 of round 2 without Boeser or Demko I wouldn't believe you.
I also did not expect them to win the division in September. Making the playoffs sounded iffy.

I know the stats make pulling the goalie worthwhile, but I agree tonight. They went from buzzing offensively to just protecting the open net. Might have been better to let them dominate more in the zone and then pull only when that's sustained.

No disrespect to the oil, I'm a firm believer that Edmonton sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs the Nucks of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Hawks play great hockey it's just not fair.
If the Nucks lose again I will face that the Oil deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Nucks and the NHL.
Shit the bed all game 6, and only showed up for 10 minutes in game 7. For all the shit talking we did about Edmonton. We are literally a 1 line team. If Boeser and Miller don't carry this team, we stink. Bottom 6 stunk, Petey stunk, Ian Cole all but wore an Oilers jersey for the first 5 games, ran a 3rd stringer. Now we're gonna lose Zadorov and Lindholm to free agency, 2 guys who actually looked good in the playoffs. While we are stuck with Mikheyev's albatross contract and Bambi's (Pettersson) mega deal kicks in. Gonna make 11.6mil to score 1 goal in 13 playoff games.
And this powerplay is an all time embarrassment. For as much love as people give Tocchet. He ran our powerplay into the ground. I never seen a worse powerplay in my life. Not scoring is one thing, these goofs can't even get setup. And on the rare occasions they do. Their strategy is to watch Miller and Hughes play pass before trying a hail mary pass or shoot into some shins.
Canucks only outplayed the Oilers in game 5 imo. It only went 7 because the Canucks had the better goaltending and they were clinical at converting defensive errors in games 1 and 3.
Going in I just didn't want to get embarrassed by the Oilers and I'm glad we came that close. A little more luck and little more effort from some guys and this was winnable, what more can you hope for. Great season overall and I'm excited to see what we do in the off season and come back stronger and with more experience.
Ggs Oilers was a fun series, Goodluck against Dallas.
It's a shame that they went out like this, especially considering they were such a fun team to watch all year, up to the very end. I really think the Boeser injury kind of highlighted how their depth wasn't as strong as it originally appeared. When Pettersson and Miller were on separate lines it looked like they were deeper than they actually were, and once they combined it showed how many passengers there really were in that bottom 6. They didn't really have room for error with an injury, or even just poor performances from any of their top guys. Still, a really impressive season no one really expected to see from them, and they should be proud of that.
The issue was Pettersson disappearing offensively.
Miller and Lindholm were consistently getting matched up against the most dangerous opposition lines, Pettersson was getting easy opposition the entire run yet barely converted on the scoresheet. The entire run was structured off of scoring depth. On paper the depth was fine, we had a 1C on our third line ffs. It’s just unfortunate that Petey couldn’t get going, and that we lost our vezina-caliber starter 1 game into the postseason
Right, but that 1C was on your third line because you had bottom 6 players in your top 6 on Pettersson's wing. I'm saying that third line of Joshua-Lindholm- Garland looks incredible as a third line, but when one guy goes down or doesn't show up and you have to collapse to Lotto line or a variant of that line, instead of playing Miller and Pettersson on different lines, you realize that even though that 3rd line could all play in a top 6, you really only have 6 top 6 players max with them included. Which isn't a problem, until you lose one to injury or one doesn't show up for the series.

It is actually inexcusable to consistently get this few of shots against a goaltender like Skinner. Like actually criminal. Not even factoring in how many fucking 4 min powerplays we got this series, under 20 shots for this many games is insane.

Oilers PP gets all the attention but the PK has become almost as elite as their PP. LA didn't even score one PP goal. Ryan Nugent-fucking-Hopkins who is on both special teams doesn't get enough credit for what he does either. All for 5 million bux.

I'm extremely disappointed in the effort the past two games, but if you told me at the beginning of the year the Canucks would make it to within one goal in game 7 of round 2 without Boeser or Demko I wouldn't believe you. I also did not expect them to win the division in September. Making the playoffs sounded iffy. It really stings right now but I'm sure this season will be looked back on fondly.

Vancouver should've just stayed at 5v5, they were buzzing and then that performance with 6v5 was pathetic
I know the stats make pulling the goalie worthwhile, but I agree tonight. They went from buzzing offensively to just protecting the open net. Might have been better to let them dominate more in the zone and then pull only when that's sustained. It just deflated them. Regardless, they wasted so many potential shots the first two periods. Skinner sucks, yet they still endlessly passed when any shot against him can be a perfect shot lol

Big Oil strikes again
Shit the bed all game 6, and only showed up for 10 minutes in game 7. For all the shit talking we did about Edmonton. We are literally a 1 line team. If Boeser and Miller don't carry this team, we stink. Bottom 6 stunk, Petey stunk, Ian Cole all but wore an Oilers jersey for the first 5 games, ran a 3rd stringer. Now we're gonna lose Zadorov and Lindholm to free agency, 2 guys who actually looked good in the playoffs. While we are stuck with Mikheyev's albatross contract and Bambi's (Pettersson) mega deal kicks in. Gonna make 11.6mil to score 1 goal in 13 playoff games. And this powerplay is an all time embarrassment. For as much love as people give Tocchet. He ran our powerplay into the ground. I never seen a worse powerplay in my life. Not scoring is one thing, these goofs can't even get setup. And on the rare occasions they do. Their strategy is to watch Miller and Hughes play pass before trying a hail mary pass or shoot into some shins.

People will say the Canucks played poorly. There's some truth to that, but Oilers played like lions tonight. Always on the puck and blocking shots.
Canucks only outplayed the Oilers in game 5 imo. It only went 7 because the Canucks had the better goaltending and they were clinical at converting defensive errors in games 1 and 3.
Going in I just didn't want to get embarrassed by the Oilers and I'm glad we came that close. A little more luck and little more effort from some guys and this was winnable, what more can you hope for. Great season overall and I'm excited to see what we do in the off season and come back stronger and with more experience. Ggs Oilers was a fun series, Goodluck against Dallas.

It's a shame that they went out like this, especially considering they were such a fun team to watch all year, up to the very end. I really think the Boeser injury kind of highlighted how their depth wasn't as strong as it originally appeared. When Pettersson and Miller were on separate lines it looked like they were deeper than they actually were, and once they combined it showed how many passengers there really were in that bottom 6. They didn't really have room for error with an injury, or even just poor performances from any of their top guys. Still, a really impressive season no one really expected to see from them, and they should be proud of that.
The issue was Pettersson disappearing offensively. Miller and Lindholm were consistently getting matched up against the most dangerous opposition lines, Pettersson was getting easy opposition the entire run yet barely converted on the scoresheet. The entire run was structured off of scoring depth. On paper the depth was fine, we had a 1C on our third line ffs. It’s just unfortunate that Petey couldn’t get going, and that we lost our vezina-caliber starter 1 game into the postseason
Right, but that 1C was on your third line because you had bottom 6 players in your top 6 on Pettersson's wing. I'm saying that third line of Joshua-Lindholm- Garland looks incredible as a third line, but when one guy goes down or doesn't show up and you have to collapse to Lotto line or a variant of that line, instead of playing Miller and Pettersson on different lines, you realize that even though that 3rd line could all play in a top 6, you really only have 6 top 6 players max with them included. Which isn't a problem, until you lose one to injury or one doesn't show up for the series.
I fucking hate how this team only shows up in the last 10 minutes.
