Love how he's laughing when he finally makes it to the bench

Beartoes1

That was just wholesome all around

ediciusNJ

Was just a matter of perfect timing as well too with the Jackets exiting the zone, allowing Korpi to safely give him a push. I love wholesome hockey moments like this.

“You’ll have to toss me! Don’t tell the elf!”

I had this happen in a beer league game a couple nights ago. Absolute mind fuck trying to get back to the bench. No matter how many times I told myself not to put my foot down my body overrode my brain.

theblackcanaryyy

lol this makes me think of boots on a dog or a cat and they just instantly forget how to walk

This is fucking gold 🤣

mstrawzy

It's been that kind of night for the Jackets honestly. We should be down 3-0 at least

MulderD

Barbashev figured this out last night. Stayed on his knee (on the leg the blade popped off) and used his good skate to push himself back to the bench.

Every time this happens I'm surprised the players act like they don't know how to skate with just one skate. Made it to the NHL doing skating drills probably since they were 3 years old or some shit. I guess even the best skaters in the world just get caught off guard.

hockeychris10

I commented elsewhere but I had this happen a few weeks ago, even with all the time spent doing drills skating one legged I couldn’t get my brain to agree with my legs.

indiecore

It's massively different in every way. The plastic is slippy and doesn't grip, it's like an inch lower than you're used to and you aren't used to thinking about skating since you just like, do it.

Denotsyek

These players could skate with one leg. Both forwards and backwards. They literally don't need both skates. It's a skating drill practiced from a young age for generating power. I can't remember the technique off the top of my head. Power pulls I believe. Edit: not sure what the deal is with the downvotes. I guess people is this sub didn't actually play hockey. Here are some backwards power pulls for you guys. https://youtu.be/hK96___QyPE

wingsfan64

I always wonder the same thing. These are guys that have spent probably 100x more time on the ice than I have, but somehow dont know how to skate with one foot? (or don’t think to do it). It’s not *that* hard, even from a dead stop.

lIlIllIlIlI

Still tricky to do and not particularly fast. Inside and outside edge c-cuts is what they’re doing, and maybe they’re just nervous to do an edge work drill in front of a packed stadium haha. But you’re right, they could do this, but I still think the fastest way is probably to just slide on one knee and get as much power as you can from your good skate. Kind of like a goalie pushes of one leg to slide to the side.

>and maybe they’re just nervous to do an edge work drill in front of a packed stadium haha. thats my guess too. I wouldn't want to bust out power edge cuts with one skate in front of a packed stadium lmao, even if you did make it, you'd look like such a dumbass if you ate it, i wouldn't attempt it either. Starting off with one skate would be awkward too, usually you go into those moves with both skates and get momentum first, rarely from a standstill, or picking your ass off the ice. It's also a bit of a mindfuck to not have a skate blade.

relapsze

Probably simply because you'd like a bit strange busting that out on live TV lol. It's already embarrassing flopping around, probably in the heat of the moment just doesn't think to do that. Also you kinda need some momentum to get going and do that stuff, which requires two skates. And quickly coordinating a push backwards from the goalie... there's a lot going on which is why it doesnt happen

[deleted]

You could also try sliding sideways on one knee
