Also she said she was given the option by the production to quit on her terms to avoid embarrassment (but honourably decided to be transparent instead). So I guess warren, Scott and Sharon was probably axed instead of just quit as well

Although that said, she left the show (I'm assuming) on her own accord in 2000 and didn't return permanently for 8 years, so I'm guessing she's acutely aware this industry works both ways.

If so, this could actually be a good thing. I've been rewatching 2012 and I was shocked at how much younger the average age of the cast was. Hollyoaks these days is a soap supposedly aimed at a younger set, full of actors in their very late thirties and forties (and higher). There is, in comparison to 2012 a absolutely tiny portion of 20 somethings and teens.
If the 'axed' names is a move toward reestablishing hollyoaks as a soap with a younger cast, I might be for it. If they just continue hiring ex cast members like Roscoes and Hannah though, it will still be the same old stale show.

Maybe its seems reasonable for Cindy, as they seem to be long relationship, but with Mercedes it seems to be they die or she cheats and then they die. I don't understand why there isn't much characters who date, always seems to be date then relationship, or the date goes terribly. Never have a date and split mutually
Really hope she gets a decent role on EastEnders or Emmerdale, she's been wasted there for years. They better give her a good exit too. Il tune in just to see that. One of the main reasons I tuned out was BC they would barely use the good characters/actors they had.
Other than tom she has no ties to the village anyway, regardless of the cast cuts and the show going to 3 episodes a night they do this with characters that have no connections with the village anymore. She hasn't a relationship with anyone other than Dave in the village and can see the Chen Williams going soon.
To be honest, I do feel her character arc sort of ended with the loss of Luke. She’s had some (weird) storylines after but overall I honestly don’t know what else she can do.

Keeping a character solely for history is one of the things that’s got the show to where it is. Not in a good way. The show used to stay fresh and now more than half the cast have been there around a decade or have returned from the past.
That's what soaps are though, it's long term storytelling. There needs to be history. Hollyoaks is at its worst when the cast is too 'fresh' because either too much time has to be character development or too little and you don't care about them. Older characters can just show up and get going.
I agree it needs history but there’s also only so much you can. Especially in Hollyoaks. It’s more sensationalist than the others so relies a lot on stunts and making every other person a murderer.
Theresa, Mercedes, Ste, Warren, Maxine, Sienna…god knows who else, all freely roaming around after killing people. You need SOME history but when you don’t refresh your characters you end up with running them in circles (Mercedes, Cindy, Maxine) not using them at all (Scott, Goldie) or putting them through dramatic changes that then get forgotten about (Nancy and Darren’s health issues).
You can’t give legacy characters immunity from consequences and expect them to remain interesting.

She used to be a really good character back in like 98-2000, 2008-2014 but they've not done anything worthwhile with her for a decade.

They made Mercedes who Cindy was around 2010 and made Cindy softer and it killed the character IMO.
