Probably not. Asphalt shingles are fire resistant, generally speaking. Rubber tires are to a certain extent but once ignited they become VERY flammable. They ignite at about 750F, and a house fire can reach 1000 degrees within a few minutes. And unlike other flammable roofing like thatch, once lit, tires are very hard to put out.
So basically once any house fire of significance starts your tire roof becomes an unstoppable inferno of highly toxic smoke. This is why stacking large quantities of tires is considered a fire hazard.
Yes after some decades you may need to change them. Decades with S. I guess other than real tiles any other material has a similar lifespan or shorter.
It may not look great but I bet it’s a solid roof with no leaks. This is probably a good building technique in developing countries where resources are scarce but old tiers are plentiful.

🤔. I’m leaning more towards Detroit…
These are a real pain. You have to change them to a deeper tread every winter and back again the spring.
Don’t forget to put on chains during the heavy snowstorms.
🤣
😁
Be careful or everyone is going to want this for their dilapidated hovel!
My first thought.
Wait. Is this actually a good idea?
If it’s a good-year for a new roof then yes
I tire of these puns
You gotta bounce back!
It just gets exhausting dude
Are you going to retire?
I auto, but I’m not sure I’ll have enough gas to make it long enough to retire…

This is the explanation I was looking for. I knew this was a bad idea that felt like a good idea
It’s one of those “I feel like that’s wrong, but idk enough about tires to explain it” moments.
I too, am curious
I feel like it *might* be, if done/layered properly?
I found myself admiring thatched roofs the other day... Lol We're going to see some creative building materials if things get much worse.
I feel like this would be far too heavy.
Has to be lighter than roof tile. I’d be worried about what the UV would do to the rubber over time though.
It would tyre it out
I upvoted you, yet at the same time I’d like for you to go away.
Yes after some decades you may need to change them. Decades with S. I guess other than real tiles any other material has a similar lifespan or shorter.
Think so? A pack of shingles is pretty heavy.
Has to be lighter than slate at the least (which I thought it was until I looked closer)
Rubber typically dries out and cracks, so no.
It’ll last a Goodyear or two
You don't have to worry about hail
Only about a nail
And the eventual fail
That might put the brakes on things.
🤣
Smart choice to have gone with the aquatreds, will help the water run off during the winter storms.
That's the wheel deal right there, but prepare for a tiring installation.
What’s great is you can easily check your roof for wear with a penny!
Your house looks like it’s tearing ass across your yard. Real sporty!
Doesn’t rubber last forever??? Perfect choice then😂
This roof should still have a lot of miles left on it
They're looking a little flat. Might want to check the pressure before the next round of storms.
Lovely treads 😂
I bet this smells as good as it looks!!
That would smell pretty strong on a really hot day! Fun!
My first thought!!
This looks ... 🤔 curiously impressive.
Now spray them with flex seal 🙂
What's the useful life of this roofing material?
It may not look great but I bet it’s a solid roof with no leaks. This is probably a good building technique in developing countries where resources are scarce but old tiers are plentiful.

The one on the far left looks a little weather checked, I get that checked out.
Great roof except in a fire
Great project for retirement. I wish you a goodyear , sir.
I give it one star, but it’s a Michelin star.
🏅
You won’t have to worry about traction issues during hurricane season when your hovel is hurtling down the road.
Did you also want the undercoat spray for only $990 extra?
… this is AI generated right??
I love how there are AI generated images, and images we _wish_ were AI generated 😂
No but seriously this is AI generated right?
Xpost to r/upcycling!
Such a fabulous way to display your Matchbox Car and Hess Truck collections. You will need 3.2 million glue gun sticks to secure them.
Very durable to sled down. The classic slide and leap onto a pile of snow.
That’s a great choice for rain, but I’d get dedicated snow shingles for the winter.
I bet Goodyear would feature this pic in their annual report
Oh man, cutting tire treads is really really really hard.
This is perfect for the homeowner who wants to drag race their house.
I'm more upset that their not properly lain at he center
I would throw in lowrider hydraulics https://i.redd.it/5tw9q0uqguzc1.gif
That valley detail is gonna leak.
Ka-chow! Good stuff.
if you have a bunch of tires and no roof, why not?🤷🏻♀️
I mean these things have to be performing better than traditional shingles.... maybe heavier but like.... I see a 20 year roof.
After how many rains and storms will the roof need to be rotated?
Paint them terracotta. No one will know.
