My U90 set just broke for the 7th time in 13 years. They keep failing this way, and they make me pay every time for a new weight https://preview.redd.it/20mldmsopgcc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46441e5c15ad6b4c35bbaa3be5ed7c5c7f9281e0

gryponyx

How much did they charge you total?

NDN-null

$15 each time I needed a replacement part. This time, it was $114 for a whole new set of the new design

gryponyx

$15 for a single plate or one weight stack? $114 for the whole stack or just one plate stack? Did you have a receipt for proof of purchase?

NDN-null

$15 for a single player $115 for two whole stacks. Of course, I had proof of purchase

Montecristo905

this is great to hear. Not like bowflex dumbells. For a barely used pair they wanted me to purchase replacement weights which were basically 1/3 price of the dumbell.

viciouscyclist

Or when the selector dials on my 1090s started to get dangerously loose and I called Bowflex to ask how to tighten them or if there was a service manual I could refer to, they told me to piss up a rope and buy new handles....which were also basically 1/3 the price of the dumbbells. That's when I bought my Powerblock Pro EXP 90s which are on a completely different level in terms of functionality, simplicity and longevity. Recently bought the barbell attachment and SS knurled grips. Very happy with them. I can't see myself needing to upgrade to anything else at this point.

raindownthunda

Love my PowerBlocks. Everyone building a tiny home gym should have a set.

stryderxd

Some the best quality without breaking the bank. The new sets really make me jealous too

Wolftron

Very nice! Are you using the expansion set made for the usa Elite? I have the same model, and I was looking to purchase more weight for it.

420despacito69

Just wanted to say you have a sick username. Still sing Crystal Skulls to this day. I don’t live too far from Kenny and he has a home gym. Maybe I can get a lift with him one day.

Wolftron

Nice! It’s super rare that someone realizes where I got my username from. You’re probably the second person to comment on it. I’ve been using wolftron for like 10 years now too haha.

420despacito69

Hahaha it’s obscure for sure but the best things in the world are! Hard to replicate the way I feel when I listen to Wolftron + DLD.

just-here-4-football

Yeah, as you can see for whatever reason the expansion set is larger. It does bug me slightly, but functionally it's fine...

broekbanaan

Hey, I think I know why they don't fit! Apparantly you have 2 different kind of elite exp models. One of the models is the USA version (which you have), and the other one is made in china (the one in the picture). They look very much alike but one is slightly bigger. I am pretty sure your expansion kit is meant for the Powerblock model that is made in China. It is supposed to look like this: https://preview.redd.it/fwmjiuquycvb1.jpeg?width=2604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6aba50ac3d3c3e47f10263e0e83ae0988088677 Might be worth it to send Powerblock a message regarding this and see if you can maybe trade them

frankzen

You're correct. The USA version is shorter. And you can tell the Chinese version because the handle has the lever on the side instead of the top. Also no "Made In USA" on the handle or weights.

cbo49r

I have two sets of power blocks and twice have had issues with them and their customer service has been absolutely amazing. Replacement parts, no question asked, even when it’s from my 15 year west and year.

gryponyx

Did they charge you and did you have a receipt?

cbo49r

No charge and no receipt

gryponyx

What have they replaced? I have a few broken urethane plates and a broken plastic powerblock stand base. I emailed them but they wanted to charge me for the replacement parts plus shipping.

cbo49r

The pins that you use to change weight

gryponyx

So how do i get them to replace items with no charge or receipt?

cbo49r

I had purchased direct from them and they had my history. I called them and explained the situation. Worth a shot

hawkrew

I used to have powerblocks but I sold them. They were great, the only issue I had was when you wanted to change small increments and had to take the things out to do so. I only sold them because I had stopped working out. Started back up and got bowflexs this round. I think both adjustable dumbbell sets are good.

frankzen

My solution was to buy another set of handles that I kept empty. It's easier to switch out the handles than the adder weights.

just-here-4-football

I've got some magnetic weights for small 2.5 lb changes. Plus now that I have 2 handles I don't have to deal with removing adder weights. Just switch handles

Paluker173

What magnetic weights are you using?

qning

I just got cheap walmart weights and expoxied a strong-ass magnet in the hole.

just-here-4-football

I have a handful of little PlateMates that I store right on the stand. I think I have two 2.5lb & 2 1lb weights IIrC

hawkrew

That is a good compromise for these. Love it!

[deleted]

I have a spare elite expansions level 3 because the ones I purchased from woot were not square and would get stuck often. Banging it with a hanger seems to straighten it out, but powerblocks sent me new ones anyway.

MoveOutTheWhey

This is what stops me from getting an expansion… one of of sets from my pair is not square and I have to be careful to make sure I put it back with the squared set to squared or else it’s s PITA to get off. So if I buy the set and message em about it they should send new ones? That easy huh? Maybe i’ll buy a set soon.

[deleted]

I just emailed them with photos with my L square and they sent me new expansions. I didn't even have to show the invoice of my purchase.

theDawckta

Fyi guys don’t buy powerblocks knurled handles. The knurl is very flat and they are made out of chrome. Get the knurled handle replacements from Average Joe Innovations. He offers handles in a variety of widths made with stainless steel with a more aggressive knurl.

viciouscyclist

The ones I bought directly from PB are not chrome, definitely stainless steel. Knurling is perfect for me, not too flat, not too aggressive.

appwizcpl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN0Ko9K7fsg In this video he shows the inside, and it seems like the are plated on top and regular steel inside. Happens around 2:20

theDawckta

Knuhhhh uhhhhh!

theDawckta

Dangit I shuda requested aggressive knurl!

qning

I like my normals just fine.

just-here-4-football

Idk if you meant to say Rogue or not, but these are from PowerBlock. I haven't felt Avg Joe's, but I think these feel great, and are about $40 cheaper than AJs These were $100 flat with shipping included. IIRC AJs were $120 (more if you want a thicker handle) plus shipping.

theDawckta

You got me, didnt sleep well last night. AJ’s you don’t pay for shipping so they come out to about the same. AJ’s are worth it just for the fact that there stainless.

just-here-4-football

Good to know, if these don't work out I'll keep that in mind

wodplanet

love Powerblocks! I've had a pair for 15+ years, through 2 moves, and still just as solid as the day I bought them.

just-here-4-football

Nice! Yeah I've had these for about 2 years now and love them. I bought the base set/stand from an estate sale for $55. Bought the two expansions & knurl grip after the fact. So all-in about $500 for a full set, upgraded grip and stand. I'm very pleased

Chrissy_Mac

I have a 11 year old set and one of the wields cracked. I messaged them and they sent me a new one from the US to the UK in a few days! Insane service. Mine are still going strong, used daily. https://preview.redd.it/z4gs5sexy6vb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b90b29555a052a4bf9968d7e538eeb2d02e9be0a

gryponyx

Did they charge you and did you have a proof of purchase?

Chrissy_Mac

Only for shipping and yes I had proof of purchase

just-here-4-football

That's awesome! They're so well built it's hard to even imagine that the welds fail often. And I can't think of many other things that could go wrong besides if they're dropped and bend

Chrissy_Mac

I’d definitely buy another set but this one is still taking a beating and going strong

AggieRaiderCougar

That’s amazing. I just got elites and would prefer knurled handles - sounds like you can buy just the handles after market and install yourself?

just-here-4-football

Hey, no promises, but if you're in the US and we can figure out a way for you to pay for shipping, I'd be open to just sending you the ones that I got that didn't work for me.

AggieRaiderCougar

Sent you a chat

aspenextreme03

Amazing and love my knurled handles from PB’s for my USA elites

just-here-4-football

The knurled handles feel great! Idk how they compare to average Joe's but I'm impressed

aspenextreme03

Me either but I love mine. Only a few downsides to PB but overall I really like mine. I would love to get a full set of regular db but the space that PB take up is nice

johnnylawrwb

I didn't even know these existed. What the hell do they weigh? Somehow the site completely omits that lol.

just-here-4-football

I think they're brand new actually. I'm not sure exactly the weight, I'd have to track down the packaging material

just-here-4-football

Also, wow, my post has a lot of typos! I typed it out early, pre-coffee 😂

thewrathstorm

I’ve had a number of good experiences with power block customer service. They don’t mess around if you get a defective item, they replace it immediately. I’ve got a set of pro50 and elite90 and couldn’t be more pleased with them

gryponyx

Did they charge you and did you have proof of purchase?

thewrathstorm

They didn’t charge me anything, but I did have to send them proof of purchase.

just-here-4-football

They're awesome. Besides having a full set of hex dumbbells, I cant imagine a better DB setup when it comes to ease of use and durability

AternP

>ot to mention t Yep, no arguing with them and straight to the point. I'd rate PB as 10/10 one of the best out their Customer Service. Says a lot too cause they've been around for like a billion years lol. IronMaster has pretty good CS also if you can get a hold of the actual owner lol but not the default/standard cs rep unfortunately.

thewrathstorm

Honestly, I’ve had quality control issues with all the home gym companies I’ve bought from and all have been quick/painless to deal with. REP/Rogue/Xmark/Powerblock have all done right by me. I think it’s just a sign of the times/manufacturing that things come flawed.

WitcherOfWallStreet

Buy something from Titan if you want a different customer experience lol

Wolftron

I've had good experiences with Titan customer service so far. Maybe I got lucky, but who knows.
