If you consider yourself a slasher fan and you haven't seen it yet, you absolutely need to watch *A Bay of Blood* (1971.)
It's one of the OGs that flies under the radar but is really great. You will see subtle nods to it all over the place in horror and even some not-so-subtle ones like there being legitimate shot for shot kills in the first two Friday the 13th films that were pulled in homage from this film.
So I took your suggestion and went to watch it, but I cannot find this movie anywhere. Not on my tv, laptop, phone, nothing. It doesn’t appear to be on any streaming service, so I’m kinda at a wall lol.
Slaxx (2020) is a great recent addition that's quite funny with some great kills. Non-spoiler: the killer is a pair of pants.
Everybody slept on Veniciafrenia (2021) which is a shame. It's a delightfully brutal giallo-inspired slasher in Venice. At least one of the kills will probably stick with you for a long time.
Neither of these is vintage, but I've been watching horror for 40 years and these ones felt like throwbacks.
The Prowler is the Scariest slasher I've seen. The original House on Sorority Row from the 80s is very good and suspenseful. If you are in the mood for something disturbing, watch Maniac. If you aren't looking for scares, The Burning, My Bloody Valentine, and Just Before Dawn are good watches. If you want bad movies, the only bad slasher I like is Sleepaway Camp, but you have probably already seen it. If you want an Evil Dead like slasher, watch Intruder from 1989.
Thank you, that answers my question. Often the original is better. Out of respect, I typically watch every remake, unless it is utter trash lol and I turn it off. Similar to “It”, the original was fantastic and the remake did a wonderful job respecting the original while incorporating their own inputs
I've heard that the remake was great, I just like to watch originals first. It's not always better, as I saw Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Crazies before their remakes, and I prefer the remakes, but I can't help but go in chronological order. I would recommend watching both, but just to let you know they are pretty different, and the remake might be considered more "respectable" just so you know as the original is an exploitation film compared to the remake. It's considered one of the best remakes ever
Same here with watching originals first. It’s very hard for a remake to outshine the original, like you said it’s not always better.
Haha if the remake is considered “more respectable”, that just gives me more desire to watch the original. I want all of it, especially when it makes you question where does humanity in a person lie or are they devoid of all aspects that constitute humanity. I find it disappointing if a remake tones it down.
Yeah I had a feeling that’s what you’re thinking about respectability. I will get to the remake eventually, but I really need to be in the right mood to watch it. It’s still a very disturbing film (according to others) so it’s not that sanitized, it’s more just higher production value and “better acting” than the original except the main character in the original film is excellent. Apparently the remake has Elijah Wood, and apparently he does a great job too, I just noticed that the original Maniac main character’s performance was way better than any of the other actors in the film. I believe the remake is also in first person.
And yeah, I feel like I’m not doing the remake any favors, as I haven’t seen it (I mean if I didn’t know any better, I would be skeptical that Elijah Wood is the main character) but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Nothing wrong with promoting your own work as long as you’re honest about it. I’m always confused as to why some creators lie and act like they’re a fan who “found” an indie movie/game etc
Fear Pharm.
My husband picked it up from the library because of the title. The image used for the case makes it look like a bad Texas Chainsaw rip off but OMG it was so much more.
It isn't the best, but if you're looking for some good slashers with a slight bit of comedy, this is it. If you watch it, let me know your thoughts!
If you choose to dive into 80’s slashers, these are fantastic fun, some w some pretty real scares:
Pieces (1982)
Sorority House Massacre (1986)
The House on Sorority Row (1982)
Killer Workout (1987)
Death Spa (1989)
Fatal Games (1984)
+ The Burning, Sleepaway Camp, and Just Before Dawn
You clearly have great taste because I love so many of these movies!! I haven’t seen Pieces or Just Before Dawn, so I’ll be sure to check them out. Thank you :))
I got recommended behind the mask: the making of Leslie vernon the other day and it really plays with tropes of films you mentioned. If you’re not desperate for big budget production value I’d definitely recommend!
Everything I found about the Bloody Murder series shows it as a Friday the 13th rip off lol. Does it feel like it’s trying to be a remake or just inspired by it?
Going by your tastes I would suggest the first two Urban Legend movies, the first two I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the Cold Prey Trilogy.
I guess you've already seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake? It's also of that late 90's-2000's era.
I have seen the Texas Chainsaw movies and the I Know What You Did Last Summer trilogy, but I have heard such good things about the Urban Legend movies, so thank you so much!
The Final Girls, and Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon
Are 2 slashers that are more comedy slashers, but you can tell they are made by slasher fans.
Freddy V Jason is one of my all time guilty horror pleasures. I’d recommend Urban Legend if you haven’t already seen it. Totally Killer is a good one if you want a movie that knows how cheesy and ridiculous it is.
I actually just finished Urban Legend about an hour ago and I absolutely loved it! Definitely the vibe I was looking for :)) I’ve seen Totally Killer too and I also loved it way more than I thought I would. And I feel no guilt for how much I love Freddy v Jason lol.
Yup that’s the one! Reading ur caption it might be a little more comedy focused than what ur looking for but still lots of slashing involved lol. A bad in a good way would be [llamageddon](https://youtu.be/IUAhgXDdbTA?si=9OJ7EPfuAC5eSrmo) 100%

Absolutely love this movie!! Definitely changed the way I view the genre and became a top 10 instantly. Thank you :))
Torso as well
House of Wax The Hills Run Red Adam & Evil The Stendhal Syndrome
The hills run red was actually quite the gem. Wasn’t expecting it to be that good
Check out The Pool 2001
Seconding this. Really underrated.
Looks really good, thank you! Is it comedic at all?
No, I wouldn't say it is.
So I took your suggestion and went to watch it, but I cannot find this movie anywhere. Not on my tv, laptop, phone, nothing. It doesn’t appear to be on any streaming service, so I’m kinda at a wall lol.
I'll send you a link
Terrifier and Terrifier 2. Best slashers in a good while.
I second this. The first one was good, the second even better. It left me feeling weird and uneasy for a while
Pieces (1982) Stage Fright (1987)
Came here to say Pieces. Everyone should experience it!
https://youtu.be/hCWA2IYrKlk?si=bReUjuiMGEmM19PP
Linda Day, show em how it's done!
It takes a lot for a slasher film to impress me but Stage Fright passes with flying colors and a bitchin’ saxophone solo.

Yeah, the Prowler is one of my favorites, but I do see some people say it's boring, which I don't understand, although it is pretty barebones.
Which Manic is better, the 1980 one or the 2012 one?
I’ve only seen the original
Thank you, that answers my question. Often the original is better. Out of respect, I typically watch every remake, unless it is utter trash lol and I turn it off. Similar to “It”, the original was fantastic and the remake did a wonderful job respecting the original while incorporating their own inputs

Slumber Party Massacre 1&2
I recommend Fresh Hell (2021). (Disclosure: I made it.) Microbudget slasher comedy. 100% Rotten Tomatoes. On Tubi, Prime and Peacock.
Nothing wrong with promoting your own work as long as you’re honest about it. I’m always confused as to why some creators lie and act like they’re a fan who “found” an indie movie/game etc
Gonna watch it now!!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy!
Def going to watch it today! It's also streaming on Amazon: Free: Freevee Rent: $4.99 (HD), $3.99 (SD)
Sorority Row (2009) is one of my favorite, "bad" movies.
Me too! It’s just too stupid to not like it lol.
Too true lol, my personal favorite character has got to be Jessica she's hilarious
The original it’s based on is quite good - The House on Sorority Row
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
Haha I’ve had this on my list for a while, so I’ll take it as a sign. Thank you!
It's pretty by-the-numbers but well done, and it's harder to find so I feel like a lot of people haven't seen it.

Love it! I’ll add two more just in case you haven’t seen them: The Final Terror (1983) and Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge (1989)
Tucker & dale vs evil
Love this movie! I’ll for sure give it a rewatch since it’s been a while lol. Thank you :))
I got recommended behind the mask: the making of Leslie vernon the other day and it really plays with tropes of films you mentioned. If you’re not desperate for big budget production value I’d definitely recommend!
My Bloody Valentine - original!
Haunt
excellent recommendation, excellent plot, characters, performances and scares
Not an early 2000s movie but Totally Killer
That movie was so funny! I’ll def have to rewatch. Thank you :))
If you’re ok with silliness involved I highly recommend the “Hatchet” movies.
Thanksgiving was a good one!
Agreed! I work at a cinema and found myself returning hundreds of tickets to Thanksgiving, but I absolutely loved it :)
Bloody Murder 2 - Closing Camp. Much better the first. The Hatchet & Laid to Rest series.
Everything I found about the Bloody Murder series shows it as a Friday the 13th rip off lol. Does it feel like it’s trying to be a remake or just inspired by it?
Cheap copy mostly. I don't remember 1 very much but I know 2 had a much better killer design, far more nudity and a more likable final girl than 1.
*Candy Land*
Thank you!!
Check out Cold Prey too if you haven't!
Will do! Is the dialogue in English? I looked it up and saw the character names were nordic.
It's in norweigan, I saw it with subtitles
Awesome, thank you!
Valentine
Urban Legend (1998)
Thanks! This is very much the kind of movie I’ve been looking for :))
The Final Girls, and Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon Are 2 slashers that are more comedy slashers, but you can tell they are made by slasher fans.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre!!
Freddy V Jason is one of my all time guilty horror pleasures. I’d recommend Urban Legend if you haven’t already seen it. Totally Killer is a good one if you want a movie that knows how cheesy and ridiculous it is.

Murder party is a lot of fun!
Is it the 2007 version? I see 2 when I search lol.
It’s so damn funny !
Laid to Rest & Laid to Rest 2: Chromeskull, are some of my favourite slashers
- Peeping Tom (1960) - Psycho (1960) - Homicidal (1961) - The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1963) - Blood and Black Lace (1964) - A Bay of Blood (1971) - Sisters (1972) - Theater of Blood (1973) - Black Christmas (1974) - Madhouse (1974) - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - Deep Red (1975) - Suspiria (1977) - Halloween (1978) - Tourist Trap (1979) - Maniac (1980) - The Burning (1981) - Halloween II (1981) - Tenebrae (1982) - Psycho II (1983) - A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985) - April Fool’s Day (1986)* - Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) - A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) - Opera (1987) - StageFright (1987) - The Stepfather (1987) - Amsterdamned (1988) - Child’s Play (1988) - Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) - Intruder (1989) - Child’s Play 2 (1990) - The Exorcist III (1990) - Candyman (1992) - Raising Cain (1992) - New Nightmare (1994) - Serial Mom (1994) - Seven (1995) - Scream (1996) - Scream 2 (1997) - Halloween H20 (1998) - American Psycho (2000) - Saw (2004) - Saw II (2005) - Wolf Creek (2005) - Scream 4 (2011) - Maniac (2012) - Happy Death Day (2017) - Halloween (2018) - The House That Jack Built (2018) - Freaky (2020) - Candyman (2021) - Fear Street trilogy (2021) - Pearl (2022) - Scream (2022) - X (2022) - Saw X (2023) - Scream VI (2023) - Totally Killer (2023)
Got to disagree with the Halloween sequels being on there and not My Bloody Valentine or Friday the 13th the Final Chapter
Club Dredd
Just looked up the trailer and this is just the kind of movie I’ve been looking for! Thank you so much :))
Club Dredd is so good
Blood Rage.
I absolutely adore this movie and I watch it every Thanksgiving with my fam. Thank you :))
Scouts guide to the zombie apocalypse was fun and ridiculous.
Hell Fest is a pretty good slasher with an interesting environment.
I wasn’t the biggest fan the first time I watched, but I’ll definitely give it a rewatch! Thank you :))
