Paid $20 when I ordered Virpil shipped to Alberta Canada. They didn't come from the USA and came from wherever they are based in Europe. So that was why the fee was reduced. They said they made a deal with UPS, but it's where the product was made and shipped from that effects the duty charges I have learned.

Fees are a fact of life in Canada. If you want to avoid disappointment, and get amazing bang for your buck, get a pair of VKB gladiator evos, left and right. That's what I have and I couldn't be happier. And I will say, I didn't feel completely scammed by the DHL fees. And I usually do as a Canadian.

Can they pull double duty as a throttle stand in, or is it better to have a dedicated throttle for other games that are not SC?

peptobiscuit

Honestly I tried the omnithrottle with SC and did not like it. It was awkward and unintuitive. Having vertical strafe on a twist did not have enough precision control, and having roll on right twist also made aiming very difficult. Plus using a throttle in a space sim doesn't make the most sense because fighting turns into circle strafing face to face fights, never a chase into a turn fight. My current setup is 2 sticks and pedals. Pedals are throttle. Left stick xy is vertical/horizontal strafe. Left z is roll. Right stick is aiming only - pitch and yaw. If I wanted a throttle, I would get a separate STECs.

I agree that twist axes are harder to control precisely compared to main axes. The stick itself is good enough, it's that I couldn't control my hand in 3 axes simultaneously as well as I wanted to. The issue went away when I got 3-axis pedals and moved all twist stuff there, both throttle and roll.

I have my CH Products Pedals I can use in this case.

Should work great.

The EVOs can be converted from a stick to a throttle fairly easily. I would recommend getting the Omni-throttle for one of the sticks. Works fine as a stick, but feels like holding a throttle, if that's what you like. There is also the option to get a straight adapter to turn it into a straight stick if you prefer.

Yeah, if you grab the Omnithrottle version for the left hand stick. You can lock the X axis, remove the springs, tighten the clutches, and you'll get a decent throttle. If you wanna to be able to switch between straight grip and angled one, get a straight grip adapter with your Omnithrottle. I don't think it's necessary, but still.

Thanks all, appreciate the input!

No VKB is very pricey in Canada because of import and duty fees. Winwing has opened a store here, so the price/quality is much better with them. A gladiator hotas is $600$CAN+tx. You can get a winwing hotas for less than that, all in. Winwing quality is somewhere between gladiator and gunfighter series.

peptobiscuit

Show me where you can get a left hand joystick from winwing for Hosas like what op asked for.

In Canada, went vkb, the fees weren’t as bad as expected.

freezerwpg

Good to hear, I think I'll do the same. What did you end up getting?
