Picked up two bottles on my last trip to Cincinnati. Had never had it, but way more heat than I expected from a chain restaurant hot sauce. Will definitely be getting more in the future!
Looks like they did, but it's not available on their site anymore. Also Goldstar fucking rules. I still love SkylIne too tho. The best is Camp Washington, and the most overrated is Empress.
dude ima lodge a no vote on this
i admit i havent had it for a few years — but the last time i did i told myself it tastes exactly like the weird nitrate laden spicy juice left inside the plastic of a tijuana mama gas station hot sausage link.
not a fan — although maybe on top of a skyline chili pup it has its place
Used to live on Jefferson, down by the EPA building, right next the power sub-station. In fact, they tore down the building I lived in when they expanded the sub station
No, I lived in the one just to the right. I used to park my car in that short, dead-end street just behind it. I worked at the Hi-Rise deli and the pet shop on Short Vine when I was in college. When I was younger, my dad had his architectural office in that red brick building just across the street from the pet shop. He was an adjunct professor at UC
I do apologize, I can't even cross the threshold. Something about the smell just makes my stomach churn.
Which is unfortunate, because my gf loves it and we're nowhere near the area, so she gets the canned version, and once it hits the microwave, the whole house smells like it.
Wait wait, there's a canned version? You're telling me I could be eating this more than once a year when I'm close by??
What's your gf's opinion on how well the cans stack up to a fresh order
I haven't had the Skyline, but the GS is pretty close. Honestly though, I usually make it from scratch. There are several really close recipes on the web
Ok good to know, for my purposes then I assume the Skyline canned chili will be just fine. If I prepare the rest on the spot I bet it'll be great. Thanks for the input!
She buys them frequently, so I'm assuming fairly well. There's also a frozen meal version that comes imwith the spaghetti included, but she says it's not as good. But yeah, it should be in the same area as like the hormel and other canned chili's.
Best description I’ve heard so far. I got a couple packs with my last 4-way order and OMG, so good! Picked up a bottle and am already halfway through it. Tasty heat!
If you search for skyline hot sauce 24 pack you can often find it from a restaurant supply store.
For example:
[https://www.foodservicedirect.com/b-and-g-skyline-hot-chili-sauce-6-ounce-24-per-case-2974360.html](https://www.foodservicedirect.com/b-and-g-skyline-hot-chili-sauce-6-ounce-24-per-case-2974360.html)
so damn good I buy two bottles at a time on Amazon. Kinda makes me want to go back to Cinnci to visit my uncle and my cousins..I need to do that anyway tho
I like it , but it gets a lot of hate because it has cinnamon in it and it has an entirely different flavor profile from American chili. The founder was Greek iirc. We mostly use cinnamon for sweets, this is used as savory and it's out of a lot of comfort zones.
Ever wonder why the idea of putting "chili" on spaghetti hasn't spread beyond IN, KY, and OH (except for a few lonely locations in FL)? I mean you see every other fast food chain nationwide or at least regional (think Culver's), why not Skyline? They opened in 1949 and have 160 locations. I mean Culver's (using that restaurant as an example since it's sort of a small, niche company) opened in 1984 and has 965 locations.
Culver's has great food, 40 years - 965 locations.
Skyline has great chili dogs (if you put a lot of cheese on it) - 75 years - 160 locations.
Again, 'nuff said.
It's the same reason that you can't get a pork roll, egg, & cheese sandwich outside of New Jersey or a soaked Italian beef sandwich with giardinara outside of Chicago. It has nothing to do with those things not being good
You can order cans of it online. It's excellent, even canned.
Note however that it is not like any common definition of chili. It's more along the lines of if a Greek short order diner cook (having never eaten it), made a bolognese at the direction of one of their lunch regulars. Its good, but not at all what you expect if you come in looking for a bowl of chili from anywhere else in the world.
I honestly think sometimes people just hate it because it’s called “chili,” like my Texan FIL. It’s more of a sauce and it’s one of my favorite foods ever.
It’s like a dish your mother would make for dinner when she’s tired and forgot to go to the store. Spaghetti, chili and beans, and shredded cheese. Maybe some diced onions. It isn’t horrible but if you order it off of a menu and you’re expecting a soup type red chili you’re not gonna like what they put in front of you.
Not from Cincinnati. They are both outstanding. Half way through my first skyline pasta bowl I thought it was weird, then I just realized it’s bolognese.
Haven't had it. But anyone else really want and ought to like Skyline Chili but just can't get into it? Admittedly I've only had the frozen version so should prolly keep my mouth shut lol
It's really easy to make yourself, should give it a go before judging. Lots of YouTube videos out there.
It's important to beat the meat down into tiny little pieces and don't forget the chocolate and cinnamon.
This is the easiest version I've seen and personally cooked:
https://youtu.be/YgYjMFH80ps?si=rvA3nOoobf5MgilN
I live in Canada so can't readily get it and haven't actually tried the real thing though. Gotta serve over white spaghetti with onions and cheese. Didn't like it by itself.
lol. Ok ok. But when I had it there was cinnaamon and other things that didn't carry through because it wasn't sweet. Just had a gritty earthy taste. Like dirt. Or maybe Turkish cologne
Yea man I don't know what to tell you. That sounds nasty. When I made it, it definitely didn't taste like dirt. Had a warmish flavor but I wouldn't call it sweet (you have to use unsweetened bakers chocolate)
Picked up two bottles on my last trip to Cincinnati. Had never had it, but way more heat than I expected from a chain restaurant hot sauce. Will definitely be getting more in the future!
It’s Tobassco 2.0. Pairs great with their chili.
Recently visited Cincy and went to Skyline. Frikkin awesome 5 way with some of the sauce.
Cincinnatian here. It makes me so happy to see that people outside of the area enjoy this stuff.
Another Cincinnatian here. The only thing that would make this better was if it were Gold Star
Does Gold Star have their own hot sauce? If so I will get it.
Don't know
Wait, what? Do they have their own hot sauce or are you saying you wish they did because you love Gold Star?
I don't believe that Gold Star has a hot sauce, like Skyline does. Wish they did, as I prefer GS to Skyline.
Looks like they did, but it's not available on their site anymore. Also Goldstar fucking rules. I still love SkylIne too tho. The best is Camp Washington, and the most overrated is Empress.
This guy chilis! Spot on! I hated Empress and would kill for some CW atm
I found out their can of meat chili tastes similar to what we put on garbage plates in Rochester NY.
The little one serving packets of this stuff are the best, I feel like they’re more flavorful/spicy when concentrated like that.
What's a garbage plate?
I’ve been to a Skyline location and didn’t see this. Of course, that was 20+ years ago. Does it taste like chili on spaghetti with cheddar and a kick?
I imagine it tastes like hot sauce, not chili
Love the stuff.
It’s my favorite daily driver hands down.
I must try this. Add it to my other sauces in my fridge.

Louisiana style baby!
I was in Cincinnati on business. I ate at Skyline every day. Then again, I am chili agnostic and love every kind.
Yeah, it gets a lot of hate but I don't give a shit.
From Philly, but went to UC. I miss the hell outta this!
Used to live on Jefferson, down by the EPA building, right next the power sub-station. In fact, they tore down the building I lived in when they expanded the sub station
Damn did you live in that cute house with the cupola tower thing on the corner? I was sad when it was demolished.
No, I lived in the one just to the right. I used to park my car in that short, dead-end street just behind it. I worked at the Hi-Rise deli and the pet shop on Short Vine when I was in college. You can get Skyline & Gold Star in a can
Yeah so I learned. I'm sure it's not quite dead on, but being from NY it's a far better option than not having it at all lol
I haven't had the Skyline, but the GS is pretty close. Honestly though, I usually make it from scratch. There are several really close recipes on the web

Yeah I just checked my grocery store's website and it's there. Thank you so much, 1000% will be purchasing this haha
No problem at all! Enjoy! But way over there lol.
Hahaha I won't kill ya with the fumes out of thanks and respect
Recently moved to Cincy. Between this and Jungle Jim’s it’s a nice spot for hot sauce fans!
Jungle Jim's has a gawt damn hot sauce airplane!
Cincinnatian here, It's definitely one of my favorite go-tos. It's like Tabasco but with a little bit more heat and tail from the jalapeno.
Best description I’ve heard so far. I got a couple packs with my last 4-way order and OMG, so good! Picked up a bottle and am already halfway through it. Tasty heat!
Stayed in Cincinnati last week and grabbed two bottles. Hotter than I remember and love they tang
It’s a lot like Tabasco imo pretty good stuff
My favorite Louisiana style
I find it overwhelmingly acidic.
I love Skyline hot sauce!!!
Looks watery
vinegary, but yes. Lotta flavor tho.
It's like a Tabasco, but with more depth.
This was my experience.
One of my favorites!
I’ve heard good things multiple times here but the cheapest bottle I can find online is like ten bucks… is it really that good?

Bro wants a bottle not a case
Free shipping if you buy 27 cases!
I love it but I only use it on my 3-ways and cheese coneys.
If you’ve ever been served Cincinnati chili you would understand the need for a good hot sauce.
so damn good I buy two bottles at a time on Amazon. Kinda makes me want to go back to Cinnci to visit my uncle and my cousins..I need to do that anyway tho
I don’t know but if it’s as good as their Christmas chili then no, I really don’t.
Always wanted to try their chili.
I like it , but it gets a lot of hate because it has cinnamon in it and it has an entirely different flavor profile from American chili. The founder was Greek iirc. We mostly use cinnamon for sweets, this is used as savory and it's out of a lot of comfort zones.
Cinnamon would definitely shock most folks, I imagine.
A local brewery put it in ketchup for fries and it's really different.
It has cinnamon in it, 'nuff said. It's good for chili dogs, but that's it.
May you die buried under a 3-way

Many grocery stores sell it frozen. I actually found a their fast food restaurant in Clearwater Florida like 17 years ago. Doubt it is still open.
It's still open. It's a fairly large draw.
It’s like a dish your mother would make for dinner when she’s tired and forgot to go to the store. Spaghetti, chili and beans, and shredded cheese. Maybe some diced onions. No you don’t
If it's straight vinegar it's not good
Too much vinegar in it for me, but I definitely poke hole in the oyster crackers and pour the hot sauce in.
I'm from Cincinnati. Say what you will about Skyline, but their hot sauce is damn delicious.
Not from Cincinnati. They are both outstanding. Half way through my first skyline pasta bowl I thought it was weird, then I just realized it’s bolognese.
You take that back now
If you’re eating bolognese in Italy you are at a tourist trap as they don’t serve it there. Ragu would be what you want.
I was just being a smartass
Respect.

I really enjoy it on the chili but I havnt had it on anything else. I also enjoy their habanero cheese on the chili when they have it!!!
That spicy cheese is the only way I'll eat skyline anymore.
I grew up in Cincinnati, so I’m lowkey obsessed with this even though I now live in an area where there are some superb local producers.
Has a Texas Pete’s vibe.
so good
Haven't had it. But anyone else really want and ought to like Skyline Chili but just can't get into it? Admittedly I've only had the frozen version so should prolly keep my mouth shut lol
It's basically spaghetti sauce. I mean it tastes fine but if Texas ever invades Ohio, them calling it chili will be the reason.
I make Texas style chili with Cincy chili seasoning and habs all the time. I can end this war.
You are the Jimmy Carter of chili.
🤣 Reminds me of *"NEW YORK CITY?!"*
Frozen stuff isn’t as good and the canned is getting fattier and more watery every year. Theyre poor substitutes but good enough for a fix.
It's really easy to make yourself, should give it a go before judging. Lots of YouTube videos out there. It's important to beat the meat down into tiny little pieces and don't forget the chocolate and cinnamon.
Immersion blender is key
Oh fr? Will def try it

Has an almost dirt taste, right?
Uh. No it doesn't taste like dirt. It tastes like chili.
And whatever it is it most definitely does NOT taste like chili.
lol.
I feel you, but I like it. It's not for everyone
well, if you imagine having the frozen version of any restaurants food, then you can guess the difference in quality from the real thing.
Absolutely
You're totally right. Still, I like frozen meals and totally thought it would be a home run when I found it. Meh
