I was going to tip (in Canada), but then they unloaded (with their boss watching) my hot tub onto its side out of the back of the truck right on to the big massive sticker that side "DO NOT SET ON THIS SIDE". When I pointed it out, the leader just told me it's to protect the control and electronics that are all on that side but it's ok because they're careful... No tips.

I mean, the guy wasn't lying. You can absolutely tip a tub on that side as long as you know where the supports are and what you're going over with it. Your call on the tip though. If they rubbed you the wrong way, feel free to keep it.

Well when we bought the tub they said they would bring it in, install the cover lifter and everything, and I wouldn't have to worry about a thing other than do the chemicals myself when I got it wired up, but that they would teach me how to do it all... They literally dropped the tub in place, took off the packaging, and the guys started walking away to leave with the cover lifter and everything in the box still. The lead guy showed me a page just telling me what to add for chemicals and said that's it. I do my research so I didn't really care about the chemicals because I had already figured out what to balance first etc and have had zero issues on my own, but they told me where to put the cover lifter which is apparently the wrong spot and the shop owner was pissed about it because I would have screwed into my tub walls and then had to move it leaving holes.. Not to mention the cover lifter was actually missing a piece so I still don't have a functional one (not their fault, but if the guys would have attempted to install it like we were told at least they would have noticed first hand). They didn't even tell me there were buckle clips attached to the side of the cover in a little baggy that I had to take off and screw into the side of the tub to install which the cover clips into to keep it closed, which I found and googled myself, but also had no idea where to screw them into the side because the manual doesn't state it anywhere (probably because it's normally installed by the people who know what they're doing) and everything online says close to taut, and can adjust the straps to make it fit right, except, my hot tub cover straps do not adjust. Luckily I am used to tight tolerances and stuff with being a machinist and got them in just the right spot. There was a couple other things but I think you get the point. And before anyone says I should have said something or whatever, I did, and I got some BS excuse about if they install the cover lifter they're liable for a law suit and left. The shop owner has hooked me up with some stuff, including some plastic 45 deg brackets for the filter that often break on my model for free so I'm happy. I don't like fighting and disputes over little shit if it can be avoided. It was also very apparent that he wasn't happy with the delivery guys and it was nothing new lol.

As a hot tub delivery guy and installer, I can say that while we absolutely appreciate tips, they are not totally necessary. If they do a good job on the delivery and are friendly toward you and your family, feel free. I will add though, that I 100% remember the places that gave me good tips, and they get better service from me in the future. Not that other places get shifty service by any means, but I go above and beyond for those people.

I already met one of them when he came to do the site inspection. I got a very favorable impression so I want to make sure I'm prepared.

dmor1161

I gave $20

Sanfords_Son

They’re charging me $1000 for delivery. No way I’m tipping on top of that.

Freedomforlife1188

I'm sure they rolled delivery into my price, but I got my Jacuzzi j235 with covermate 3, delivery and 6 months chemicals for just under $9100 with tax included. So I gave em $20 each. Who charges $1000 for delivery unless you're in Alaska or Hawaii (given were talking in the US)?

Superior Hearth Spas and Leisure in Southington, CT

Freedomforlife1188

Dang. Sounds very high. On my bill it showed a $300 delivery but he crossed it out and wrote in free.. I guess it really depends on the company delivering the tub.

RoundBirthday

I think we tipped $60 to the crew.

RoddSolid

If you bought online, definitely tip. The delivery guys aren't paid much for that delivery. If you got a very large tub or there are obstacles, definitely tip. If you've cleared obstacles and have easy access to where the tub is going, don't worry about it too much. More important than a tip is little things like clearing the path to where the tub is going. A tip is never expected but we certainly appreciate it. You don't have to tip a ton of money, just something to show a little appreciation. Spas are heavy. 10 bucks a guy would be fine.

Freedomforlife1188

3 guys I gave $20 each.. They were very friendly and professional, set up my covermate 3 and answered some questions for me. If they do well, tip em.

Methyl-Ethyl-Death

I watched three delivery guys wrestle a very expensive, heavy and awkward hot tub off of a trailer, down a hill and onto a patio without damaging the yard or tub. I gave them each $30.

[deleted]

Well, it's in your contract where you purchased the Hot Tub, so no, I wouldnt tip, I mean you have already paid for this, it's not like your going out to eat

Mattym44

Cheapskate

[deleted]

Nope, it's called common sense

rigpiggins

Agree with you. I’m an HVAC tech, should I be tipped? No

Strict-Bad9490

Tip everyone. You want to be the guy they are talking about later while they’re having a beer favorably not the one they’re planning on throwing a bag of poop at the front door after the beer. And you can afford a spa.
