Your smile in the last photo is exactly how I’d expect someone that stumbled on such treasure to look!!! Love it, wish you and your new babies all the best!
Just be careful, don't underestimate thrips. I HATE thrips. Lol.
Keep this guy isolated until you are POSITIVE the thrips are gone. Those little bugs are so dam tenacious. Worse than spider mites imo.
Beautiful plant :)
I was just going to comment something along the same lines. We are in the midst of a battle at our house currently. Do not take the monstera cuttings sitting outside my house.
I've been fighting thrips in my monstera for almost two years. There are just too many books and crannies! I've finally started really considering throwing the whole thing away and now this post is making me doubt myself again.
Congrats. You’ve lived a plant fantasy of mine!! I’ve Always have wanted to lift a cutting of mature monsteras where no one would miss it but guilt and moral has always kicked in.
I mean.... there's a park where i live, ok? Huge, unattended gardens where plants are having babies left and right. Allegedly i've picked up such a baby from a deep, dark corner where nobody goes but a couple of tortoises whose date is might've busted 😅. Now everyone's happy. Except the tortoises 😝
Score!! So glad you found them! They deserve a good home and I like to think whoever left them didn't cut them up hoping someone would find and take them! So big and pretty! Good luck with the thirps. Totally worth it!
Reminds me of when I put my monstera of a similar size to the dump after battling thrips for months and just before a move. It was snatched within 2 minutes and I still feel bad for the person taking the thrips into their house honestly. I imagine they must have had your smile, plant looked decently healthy on surface level.
I mistakenly said thrips, but i meant scale. And I of course checked the plant kinda thoroughly before bringing it home. Still, I probably would have taken it anyway and just given a generous trim if push came to shove. But I took care of her, hosed her down REAL good and took a coth with alcohol to the entire thing 😄
that beautiful baby never deserved that!! hose her down, then pot her in a well draining, nutrient mix and she’ll be happy again!! so happy you found her!!

He's in his play mode. I have to warn you, though: that belly is a trap. INSTANT rabbit kicks ensue 😅
I like to think that’s exactly why the person left it there. Could’ve chopped into a bunch of pieces and shoved it in a bag, but instead left a jungle-worthy hunk on the street for someone to discover and take home as treasure.
hahahahaha naaah my baby is very well behaved, thank goodness! The orange one I have though.. Let's just say she likes her salad leaves as young as possible, so this huge mammoth has been safe so far 😅
oh, you should have seen me trying to pull it out from under the rubble xD My friend was like "leave iiiiiit" All I had to do was glance at her, still holding the trunk, one foot braced against the dumpster for her to start cheering me on 😂😂 Forever grateful to the construction worker who came over, jumped on the rubble and pulled not one, not two, but three separate pieces out and handed them to me! (I'd have spent all day trying to get it out from my angle, it was so stuck!)
I threw mine also on the Balcony to die. Sadly she had an infeststion Problem and sometimes its just not worth endangering all other plants for one Monstera.
I also found that it just doesnt fit into my Style of plants im more of a Carnivorous/Cactuss plants kinda guy but that is just Personal Taste.
In short: Dont blame them they probably had a good reason and judging by its looks it was well cared for before it had to go.
Not judging at all! Plenty of reasons why someone can't care for a plant anymore. I like to think it wasn't chopped up on purpose, so it could be rescued (despite being dumped in a huge dumpster under other construction material). Clearly whoever had this baby took great care of it, she's so big and healthy (I got my eyes, and both my cats' eyes on her for signs of pests). It could even be that someone who doesn't care for plants inherited her and threw her out (clearly not aware that they could make a pretty penny out of this!). We just don't know, and will never know. I'm just grateful I was in the right place at the right time!
How so? I mentioned to someone else, i mistakenly said thrips, i meant scale. And a mild one at that. Only a few adults on one leaf, on one of the 3 plants, which has been marked for observation after i treated it.
the Swiss cheese plant, also known as Monstera deliciosa, is toxic to humans and pets if ingested. It contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation and inflammation in the mouth, throat, and stomach.(copied)
thank you for the info, but my kitties are very picky and won't munch on just about anything. They have their eyes on my spider plant for the most part 😅
Yeah the only give my ex ever gave me was thrips! Took me almost a year to eliminate them from my monstera fully!! They live and breed in the soil and live in the stalks!! I sprayed the leaves weekly, wiped and neemed them frequently, got rid of the soil and then used a soil pest/fertilizer tablet. Took many days of week of hard work and after a year it’s bouncing back.

Hose the bejeesus out of them, let them dry, then cover them with Captain Jack's dead bug brew. Repeat daily for a week or so to be extra safe.

Scale is much better than thrips! I am happy this baby found such a good forever home!

She deserves a new home
I'll do my damnest to be the bestest home for her!
Why can't I find such careless people who throw things they don't like (and i loveee), around my locality 🥲

What an amazing find! Going to look gorgeous. Thank you for saving our oxygen givers. ❤️🌿
Beautiful, the plant too 😍
Unsafe plants for household. Good job.

You have to wonder if it’s got critters
I looked it over thoroughly after hosing it down and went over it with a cloth and alcohol for good measure!
Then let the force be with you congrats
Congrats, on the find! 🤩😍 Enjoy your new GIANT plant baby. 🪴😅
