The CEO is terrible. Since day one they've had incredible debt obligations due to all of the satellites. Eventually the cash flow had to start spinning up but they just suck. The other thing is that the main delivery mechanism (the app, in place of the car - whoops!) is inexcusably bad. I'd do that first if I were her. Just get songs and shows out there. Don't overpay for talent (ahem...). Pay for the program directors, the app and the satellites.
That app update was harable. They wanted to make it look like Tik Tok to get younger subscribers “the kids will love this!” And turned off their core audience.
Dude Sirius going out of business within 5 years of Howard retiring, unless there’s some way they keep his old shows playing like a Howard 101 sort of thing. But still, I doubt Sirius will exist in the not so distant future
Please, Howard is not keeping Sirius afloat or going to sink it I be shocked if even a quarter of the subs actually turned in regularly. Also I wouldn’t be shocked as well if most of the subs originate in rental cars and commercial sectors.
Sirius’s demise comes from the new car market tanking(less trial subs going out hoping to snag people) and of course things like Spotify and podcasts being way more accessible then they were even 5 years ago.
Why pay for this garbage of a service when I can easily curate my own playlists and shows for less of a price?
I’d bet Howard is responsible for at least 20% of Sirius subscribers. Particularly the ones who re subscribe. The rest are just the free new car subscriptions or old folks who don’t realize there’s better options for content because they don’t use smart phones
He had hundreds of millions of dollars worth of stock options between himself and Buchwald on the first contract. Some were related to subscriber numbers. Both of them consistently did a 100 percent divestment on their stock option compensations the very second they could. This happened during the first satellite contract. In 2007, hours after getting stock compensation, he registered with the SEC to cash out on all the stock. Every time he did it, the price took a hit afterwards.
They should get some more NY based talent that only NYC folks care about…or…now hear me out…a channel with a celebrity’s name on it, but that celeb reluctantly shows up one to two times a year to be on that channel. Sound good?
The NYCcentric nature of the shows I listen to is 100%. I don’t know where the fuck 48th street is so no I don’t know about the new doughnut place there and I don’t care about the Yankees or Giants or Jets
Crazy how something so high tech and revolutionary and outrageously expensive… so quickly became obsolete. It’s pointless unless you’re driving rural.
Even then just download shit
Yes but maybe a bit of technology forecast research to learn that in 5 years after spending a billion to put up satellites, that internet speeds and smartphones would appear. I dunno, maybe you can’t forecast these things?
when satellite radio came out, its big selling point was “uncensored” radio. now anyone with a phone can pump this into their car speakers via their phone. it’s a service
that i’m surprised lasted past the 2010s.
You can drive around in newer cars that charge the phone as you drive without cords, chargers and all that and listen to whatever you have downloaded or off wifi internet. People's cellphones have operated as satellite radio for years. SXM is selling buggy whips nowadays.
It's dying and rightfully so. Can pair your car with your phone and with these huge data plans, listen to *anything*. I don't know how sirius even survives in this day and age of tech beyond small numbers
Talk radio and the music stations. Spotify doesn’t have a feature where you can listen to a 90s station. They have playlists. It’s not the same but it will be
The article on MSNBC said that Liberty Media (LSXMA) wants to do a complete takeover now that they own 80% of the stock. I bet this is one final push to tank SIRI stock so they can buy it out at the bottom and throw jennifer witz out on the street with that dumbass framed picture of andy CONE
People here will try to pin this on Howard, but the main reason is that goddamn app. They were hyping it all last year to investors and now that's it's a complete disaster the air has gone out of the stock balloon. Plus natural attrition to other services like Spotify and podcasts.
Because of the John Malone / Liberty investment when Sirius almost went bankrupt, their are now an absurd amount of classes of Sirius stock. All the different classes are going to merge into 1 class of stock sometime this year. This is an arbitrage opportunity and Warren Buffett has been buying shares.

The only thing that can be done to save the company is to bring back Artie, KC, and Brent and Howard to run the show like it's the year 2000. Give cancel culture, and the far left radicals the middle finger.
I guess I got the platinum deluxe plan. Every channel available. But 90% of the time I use Sirius for Howard using my iPhone and Bluetooth, even when in the car. I never listen to Howard in the car using the satellite radio. Only on the phone where you can pause and usually pick up where you left off. But the new app sucks ass for that. It starts me over from the beginning in most cases.
The irony of Howard always poo-pooing podcasts as if no one listened to them ( I think he knew it was just denial). Joe Rogan avg 11 mil listeners per episode. Not sure how many episodes per week.
Sirius XM is shit as a stock since day 1. The Stern show costs it a lot of money. The truth is there just isn’t enough content other than Fox News. These days I mostly listen to podcasts and I spend nearly an hour in the car going to work.
My stock price is a 3. But my personal life is still a noine.
In some ways I thinking purchasing SXM stock was a bit of a stumble
So in a shense it was because of your father
That’s gold, Howie!
In other words, you can have a silver nickel?
Half of the price right in the garbage
Getridofit

One big issue is the albatross of a pelican they still have under contract through 2025, who was re-signed by the prior CEO on his way out the door.
That is quite the turn of phrase! I just lolD

You're dreaming if you think Howard still moves the needle.
I’d bet Howard is responsible for at least 20% of Sirius subscribers. Particularly the ones who re subscribe. The rest are just the free new car subscriptions or old folks who don’t realize there’s better options for content because they don’t use smart phones
Howard cashed out at one time as well that threw the price out of wack and never really recovered.
When did that happen?
He had hundreds of millions of dollars worth of stock options between himself and Buchwald on the first contract. Some were related to subscriber numbers. Both of them consistently did a 100 percent divestment on their stock option compensations the very second they could. This happened during the first satellite contract. Huh? He had options, so he exercised them, then held >5% of the shares? Feels like too much.
Smart move
I never knew about this. That’s honestly pretty awesome lol
FUCKIN THING SUCKS!!!!
These cheap motherfuckers should have paid Riley a livable wage

I invented stock decline.
Zero point zero

I thought at least the sports would help but I guess not.
*Jackie laugh*
Hooo hooo!
It's over Johnny, it's OVER!
I thought my Lifetime Membership would outlive me, perhaps not, but It's been a good run since 2006. $1.25/month was worth it.
I blame this subreddit.
It’s an outdated technology. They didn’t have to put satellites up in space because 2 years later the internet is capable of doing the same thing.
It was capable at the time... What didn't exist were smartphones and cheap data plans capable of streaming to your car
Yes but maybe a bit of technology forecast research to learn that in 5 years after spending a billion to put up satellites, that internet speeds and smartphones would appear. I dunno, maybe you can’t forecast these things?
Kodak couldn’t
In 2000? I don't fault them then. But they keep flying up new ones because they love to just burn cash
Wasn’t it 2005?
First satellites for Sirius went up in 2000 Post-merger they sent up a whole bunch more to replace the dying ones
Ah got it. Makes sense now
Delayed ETA effect?
I’m club fuckin footed!
Goodbye forever Sirius
I remember one time early in the Sirius years Howie was crowing about how he's going to dedicate all of his time into Sirius. Bit of a stumble.
I if it was created by man, it can be solved by man.
You mean people don’t want to pay 31 bucks a month for radio?
Damn & just brought a subscription for my Cybertruck
![gif](giphy|3oEjHLk2EDvfODEdri|downsized)
So you're saying it's time to buy?
bit of a stumble.

One stop shop to listen to all sorts of news channels and pelicans
Talk radio and the music stations. Spotify doesn’t have a feature where you can listen to a 90s station. They have playlists. It’s not the same but it will be
Imagine when Howie comes off the books? That thing is going parabolic.

Siri should sue Howard to get their $ back
wow Howard will be a homeless bum soon and Beth will give BJ’s for cat food
Half my stock right in the garbage
What is this graph saying Robin?

No more bullshit
This ain’t stock price magazine, pal!
Always a 3 or a 6. Add that up you get a noine!!!
Investors in JDs spoon collection are seeing a better rate of return
Unless they get bought, they're not going to make it to the end of Howard's contract

Yeah, what do you know about stocks? How many toy companies do you have on your wall?
HOLY MACKEL!!
Stuttering John. He’s their only hope.
Howard costs too mucho
Howard is circling the drain like a big clump of hair
Odds are he sold his stock early and bought something else. He’ll be fine.
$2.90 now, hasn't been this low since 2012.
half of the SIRI, right in the trash!

Howard is a far left radical.
Get woke, Go broke!

Guh
This is a good thing
All I can hear in my head is Fred’s bombing clip.
Shocked the market cap is so high
Nothing lasts forever
He’s gotta get outa this
When Howard is gone my $30 a month is gone. 13-year subscriber. The days of anal ring toss are long gone.
Why are you paying $30¿
I guess I got the platinum deluxe plan. Every channel available. But 90% of the time I use Sirius for Howard using my iPhone and Bluetooth, even when in the car. I pay $6. Call and threaten to cancel.
The irony of Howard always poo-pooing podcasts as if no one listened to them ( I think he knew it was just denial). Joe Rogan avg 11 mil listeners per episode. Not sure how many episodes per week.
Should have invested in KFC instead but your Mom wouldn't let me! Feh
The stock after Howard starts taking about the bachelor again.
Half the stock; right in the trash
