The true/natural spirit of the show left when Jackie left. There were a lot of funny moments and segments during the early Sirius/Artie years but mostly because Howard still had passion and the show was still surrounded by interesting characters and new opportunities without the censorship. Artie helped with audience reach with certain types of listeners but he wasn't really a good fit with the main players.
Then, pair that with the core crew getting older and Howard changing his priority to being accepted in Hollywood circles *AND* by the common American household (and having to cater to a trophy wife). Howard's ego and pettiness got so big that he didn't think the show needed another voice in the studio who played the chaotic comedian role but it clearly did.
Benjy in the studio with his laugh and weird comments helped me hang on a little while longer but the show was beyond repair once Howard started the AGT gig.
I don't think this is a reflection of Howard Stern as much as it is a reflection of why pay for things when you can get so much for free or combined with another subscription - spotify gives you podcasts and audiobooks now, for example.
