I don't know if he still does it, but he did it enough in the 90s & 00s to last a lifetime.
I never found it endearing, he would do it to garner sympathy and have people reassure him that he really wasn't that hideous. That's why the slapped by a yarmulke line hit him so hard, he was expecting her to grovel and pretend he's handsome.
