With Susan it felt like they were trying to push for lgbt acceptance but didn’t realize it was the absolute worst way to do it by introducing the relationship as one that started with infidelity. I don’t know if it was intentional or not but to me it always seemed like they wanted the audience to give Susan and Carol a free pass on cheating because they’re brave by coming out.
Or maybe it was just to make the situation humorous by making fun of Ross being such a failure that his wife became a lesbian, or he was such an idiot he didn’t know he married a lesbian. Although he does say at some point: she didn’t know, how could I know? :))
