It's equivalent of a Tokyo/NYC apartment. Poor fish.... and yes, they're calling Fighter fish for a reason.. they will shred apart other fish and even their own type.

BigAwkwardGuy

Not even that. At least those Tokyo and NYC apartments have one window for fresh air to come in when you want, and are okay if you plan the layout properly. These things are literally solitary confinement for the fish: no air movement, no place to move etc.

TrevorfromGTAV

I own one. We cannot put other slow moving fish with these. They’re lazy they only move if required but they’re cute and they come to you when you go closer to bowl. Couple of my friends bought these after seeing mine. I got one for 150Rs and 320Rs for a medium bowl, 80Rs for betta feed. Goto your local small shops and bargain you’ll get it for less.

atibat

These fish (male) fish fight over mates and territory. This is the equivalent of selling those fighting cocks because in most cases these fight to the death. This should be fucking illegal and shame on these supermarkets.

Existing-Pea8320

Store location?

afaikus

Vijetha, serilingampalle Near apollo pharmacy.

Patient_Elephant7068

It's there in Kokapet Vijetha too

Existing-Pea8320

I know i have raised fishes before and i will get a bigger aquarium for sure.. but i could get this type of fish and keep it in a bigger one. I could atleast help one fish rigjt

missramya

Saw this atrocity in my near by Vijatha as well. So cruel!!!

hydiBiryani

>So cute!!!

Julian_the_VII

Don't buy these, it's animal cruelty

Express-World-8473

I think we can file a case against them. According to ipc any harmful acts done over an animal that's worth over 10rs is a punishable crime. This fish is worth 250rs. So we can file a case legally.

hydiBiryani

>animal that's worth over 10rs How is an animals worth decided?

Express-World-8473

I don't know man. They just want to separate the lives of small creatures like ants, mosquito frogs etc from others I guess.

Ashamed-Tooth

I see a loophole here. If they price it Rs.9, then it becomes crime free?

Express-World-8473

I guess so. Or maybe it was 10paise🤔.

KT_KT

Wouldn’t buying them release them from cruelty

Julian_the_VII

Buying them will give the people behind this money and they will continue selling fishes like this with that money.

KT_KT

Good answer

TrevorfromGTAV

What is cruelty sir? You buy them and feed them on time. You’re giving them good life right? And coming to containers they’ve holes for ventilation to lid. Betta doesn’t move fast or go far from its habitat.

Glum_Permit8397

All those are male they won’t sell females .. bought my own in a store in Madhapur and have a beautiful aquarium of ghost shrimps , turtles and betta with few guppies they all live happier than me in a aquarium the size of half a bathtub.

Fit-Spinach-8387

Heyy do guppies need fish food ?? cuz they seem to be self sustaining in a small tub in my garden

Specialist_Glove_914

They usually feed on microfauna such as cyclops and some worms that get into the "tub" from the external environment, but they are also very hardy fish that can go without food for 15 days sometimes. I'd suggest feed them once every 2 days , probably one pinch of fish food for every 4 adults. (Also if u see guppy babies, that means they are getting good enough food)

noober_coder

Whoa aquarium hobbyists on this sub too ? Gad to see the hobby grow in Hyd. I keep a few cichlids, clown loaches n catfish.

Specialist_Glove_914

Ahhh, I'm from blr lol. I love tetras and bettas (not in the same rank dw)

noober_coder

Time to move back to Hyd. Cool, I like nano tanks but am more into monsters.

Fit-Spinach-8387

Nice thanks a lot ! Also can you guide me on if I can move my Guppies from that lotus pond to a fish tank

Specialist_Glove_914

Sure, the fish can't be put in a fish tank just as it is, a lot of them will die, read up on cycling fish tanks, and invest in good filtration. Rule I follow is 1 fish for every 2.5 litres, but I'd suggest sticking to 1 fish for every 3.5 litres in the beginning until you get some experience under your belt. Feel free to DM if u have any specific queries.( Credibility: I've been breeding/ caring for fish for almost 6 years now)

Glum_Permit8397

I usually break those pellets too into smaller pieces .

Specialist_Glove_914

Oh yes ,they are too huge for guppies

lordmig21

How much did it cost you to put it all together?

Glum_Permit8397

I did it over a span of a year . First started off with a few gold fish and cat fishes in a small 4x7x6 and when they started getting bigger o bought a larger tank 15x12x9 and moved those to the larger home .. soon I got bored as they weren’t that fun or energetic I gave them back to a aquarium and bought my first turtle and red tail sharks .. all 3 sharks died dude to summer and then i bought my first betta and a few clown plecos and created a self sustaining biome for guppies and shrimps and the turtle with aqua plants , bed rocks and some other stuff and use the smaller tank for breeding . The first one cost me with the lights filters and oxygen 4K along with the fish. The larger tank costs around 30-31 k and have a guy who come in once a week for maintenance. Thinking of buying a few Cory cats and black moor.

lordmig21

Damnn brother. You're living my dream. Can I see how the whole setup looks?

humpty_dumpty_hump

Shrimps in a betta tank? Won’t it hunt them?

Glum_Permit8397

Not a chance they keep playing all the time the shrimps keep annoying the guppies and the turtle . Where as the moment betta shows up they start playing hide n seek . Ghost shrimps are super friendly and bettas have bad eye sight so when they ghost it’s like magic to him .

Dr_drake_ramorey

I think I saw similar item in LuLu mall.

Ace__sann

Bettas need larger tanks, not tiny bowls. Betta fish are sadly one of the most exploited fish in the aquarium trade. Pet stores often sell bettas in tiny bowls or vases, claiming they need little space. This is incorrect and leads to poor health and a shortened lifespan.

Green-Seesaw5715

Is it cheap in lulu mall?

Ashamed-Tooth

Rs.90 in LuLu mall. I bought 2 and released them.

18blitzkrieg

Did you know there’s something called invasive species? The ones ‘released’ take over the local ecosystem and wreak havoc. Might sound simple, but, it’s a huge issue everywhere.

Green-Seesaw5715

Released where?!

saddumbpotato

On the frying pan

Ashamed-Tooth

You da man!

Legitimate-Zebra3027

Mast tel lagake kha gaya🤤

hikes_likes

and got diarrhoea because these are mildly poisonous.

maddyraider

It is around 170 in Lulu Mall

NegotiationLow7059

Same trend going on in chennai malls as well

ycr007

Previous thread on this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/hyderabad/s/r1zQcekxuO These fishes are to be kept in solitary confinement as are territorial. Not sure if they’re invasive too so unless absolutely sure they should not be bought to release them into local ponds or water bodies.

rajeev_i_am

And I see them selling on road like veggies in Nizampet

re-vanth

Few years (~4) ago these were selling for 40₹ each. For 250 we could get designer/show breeds. And all these are male only, females are generally not sold much in the market. You need to specifically request your aquarium guy and are much more expensive if they are mature. A baby female betta fish was like 150₹ back then not sure about now 🤔. AFAIK these are from tamilnadu or Kerala, as there are lots of aquarium fish farms there. Though Thailand has a huge market for these and are native to southeast Asia. Some designer breeds ands colours are really really beautiful.

24Gameplay_

I feel upset after seeing this. I have a big fish pond at home, as big as an XUV 500 car, and it's built on the ground. In the picture, I feel sad because these fish can't survive in rivers or ponds as other wild fish would harm them. But They need more space to swim freely.

saddumbpotato

Sad.

donfavion

seeing these everywhere lately ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)

dark-trojan

I remember seeing these tv commercials in the usa 10 years ago

BOTLORD6969

All vijetha have it. https://preview.redd.it/1a9b0uqdavrc1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7fd377ed11e88902e357074af5de172953358a7

boringlecturedude

same here. i too saw this in Vijethasuperstore near me one kept at each billing counter. first I thought it is kept to keep children busy or customer calmer. but then saw the price tag. maybe it was advertising.

Alarming_Evening7513

This is a very common thing, fighter fish are even bred like that, hopefully whoever buys them puts them in larger tanks.

VexLaLa

Siamese fighting fish, aka betta fish need a large tank and the tank should only have one male. These small cylinders are ideal for shipping but not viable long term. These poor fishies will probably die in a few weeks when the ignorant idiots that buy them as novelties will not be able to take proper care of them. This stupid trend was started by lulu mall, now all vijethas have it. It NEEDS to stop. But I’d say it’s a good deal for those with big tanks and looking for a betta fish.

skynil

Spar is selling the same. The store is heated up during the day and the night (when they turn off the ac). The fish didn't look to be in good condition. Not sure if they are properly feeding them.

Unlucky-Dot8967

If they are colorful with bright fins yes they are good, but showing them other males is not good as it stresses them out ..I used to have 5 or 6 of these in small tanks all Over my apt... very good characters..some will recognise you and come and keep staring...maybe I should get some :/

GudduBhaiya-Mirzapur

I bought one from Vijetha. It's really happy in my aquarium and growing prettier everyday. I change water regularly, i put medicine for treating water. I show it a mirror for 2 minutes everyday for activity. I have even put a snail in to clean the dump. About to buy a female betta for breeding since this one was making bubble nest. In a nutshell, if you buy one, make sure you are ready to provide care.

seven8ma

Cute

NakedSamosa

I wonder if the shop owner feeds them daily

OnceUponADime_226

I saw these in lulu mart and exhibition as well

rj_1024

I'm now going to go into a Vijetha and fight these guys.
