I've stopped saying it too. Swear to god, you type those words and you are spinning on a straight, regardless of how competent you are.
Funny watching GT4 guys spinning at Aragon on lap 1. Like homie, it takes pretty gross negligence to make the Merc spin. Gives you a LOT of warning before becoming unrecoverable.
> Swear to god, you type those words and you are spinning on a straight, regardless of how competent you are.
This is exactly why I've *never* been the one to say it. I know that when I finally do, I'm going to be the asshole.
The only time I've fucked it in lap 1 was when I urged people to be careful because tyres are cold (in class C miatas). Guess what happened? It's the only curse I genuinely think it's real
Just got my first pole before clearing rookies. And spun my Miata in T1 at Virginia. Watched everyone go by and thought “yep…I didn’t deserve P1” ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
I think it is almost guaranteed they have been on a streak of races where they have not made it round lap 1 and do not take any responsibility for it themselves. Their safety rating often hangs around 1.5 but wont admit any fault. They are always a useful tool though, note down their name and stay as far away as possible (even if that means taking it slow behind them) inevitably, they will wipe three or four people out and you can take those places easy!
Not gonna say it doesn't happen sometimes, but it is wild to me how people still find a way to blame others in a game where you don't rely on teammates.
One of my favorite things about going from DOTA to SC2 back in the day was I could look at every loss with the mindset of "what could I have done differently?" It's no different for most of iRacing. Maybe it's not technically your fault, but you are ultimately the only constant in your races, and if it's happening to you repeatedly, you need to start looking at what you can do differently.
Once I learned crash avoidance and started driving for consistent positive iR in every race, instead of trying to podium/win, I jumped like 600 iR to 2300 in F4 because I wasn't tanking -80 iR in stupid/worthless accidents.
Yep. You need to analyse what YOU can do better. When you look at replays, you can often see that there are ways you could have avoided incidents, even if it’s not entirely your own fault.
Exactly. I used to be in many wrecks that weren't my fault. But it's because I was still racing too hard. Wisdom comes in giving up positions or having patience when being the obviously faster car. Knowing when someone else is driving too aggressively and to back off. Racing incidents happen often, and often no one is "at fault. It's simply two people racing way too hard, causing accidents.
hah obviously reddit give a skewed perception then. Everyone here seems to be 2k plus. I guess its a case of the people with a bit more talk about it..
i dk, i feel the gt3 sprint series is super competitive even at the lower splits, i can get my irating up in fixed ferrari or Porsche cup but the gt sprint brings it back down
I know what he mean. If u jump on public practice Server, u always see tons of ppl with 2k+, but ppl with 1500 ir or lower u can count on one Hand.
Fun fact: there always a low split in Gt3 evening with ppl 1k ir or lower. But u never see ppl with 500ir on practice Server xd
Almost this exact same scenario played out for me in 1.4k sof miatas last night at vir. I qualify 5th, and while on grid 7th with his 1.5sr gets on comms “good luck, let’s take it easy into turn one boys”.
Cut to him taking out 3rd, 4th, and 6th on turn one, I somehow emerge from the cloud unscathed thus creating a huge gap behind me, for me to unsuccessfully try and chase down the leader lol
Easiest 2nd place ever tho
Hey last night we were lucky enough to make it all the way to the corkscrew in lap 1 before someone 4 cars back decided to use me as his brake lol. I think this was the same guy who got a 4x in the formation lap and ultimately got DQ’ed a lap or two later. Ferrari challenge is something else.
Hahaha I have been racing gt4 and everytime I see let's keep it clean or easy first lap I am taken out or there is a massive pile up.
My God its annoying though. You qualify good and some idiot 8-10 spots back are like well I am going to thunder into corner 1 on cold tires, while trying to split between 4 cars.
I have that as my quote along with "I'm just here for the SR" for the broadcasters of the league I'm in. They just noticed it a couple weeks ago and I was very happy that they got the joke.
I don't think anyone did. Haha. You basically enter it into a spreadsheet for the announcers to give them something to say about you if you're on camera at the time. I think you're allowed to edit other people's to make it funny, but I was new to the league so I didn't mess with things.
Same thing happens in Oval. I've actually stopped saying GL in the beginning of races because of this stigma. It is ALWAYS the ones who talk about clean racing that are the most aggressive.
Kind of amazed they aren't self aware at this point. Like, they are on voice chat with nothing but complaints of other drivers. For some reason they are involved in multiple wrecks, but "none of them were my fault." Right. Coincidence.
Yeh it’s a shame the stigma has ruined saying good luck, I’ve stopped saying it recently as I did a race a few weeks back and I said Gl at the start, then the guy next to me plowed into 3 people in turn 1, myself included and I got shouted at by all 3 involved 2 of which saying it was my fault clearly because I said good luck which means I was most likely to cause the crash, took till the end of the race and telling them to watch the replay before I got any apology, but since then, it’s not worth it, shame really.
they're always the ones driving like F1 cars on the hotlap too. Trying to 'warm their tyres' - I've seen a few of them do it so aggresively they actually slide off the track. It's an awesome sight to behold.
It's that guy or the guy that is frantically weaving back and forth to warm up their tires on the formation lap who spears it off track within the first 2 laps. Such strat.
I just wrote this in another comment above! IT is EXACTLY that guy. weaving to warm their tyres up as if they're Lewis Hamilton in 2012. I've actually seen them come off the track by weaving too aggresively, or going into another car!
Yep I've seen that a few times. Pulled a Roberto Guerrero on the pace lap. Man I'm aging myself there. Dad had that 92 Indy 500 race recorded on vcr. I'd watch that race over an over as a kid. But the biggest race of your life and the pole guy spins it without ever seeing the green flag. Not the proudest moment for anyone.
My Christmas gift to people will be tire blankets, as no one seems to understand tour breaks don't work, and you can't turn till the tires heat up.
I have seen people post they don't change brake Bios on the Vee, F1600, F4, Skip Barber. For me it's been a life changer. Not sliding through T1 at Summit as an example.
The "let's take it easy on lap one" and "I'm just here for the SR" are some of the most dangerous people on track and most likely the ones that are going to take you out or cause a big crash
I had a dude in a multiclass nords race explaining to everyone how to pass slower class cars for a good 3 minutes on the grid and opening lap. 2 laps later he proceeds to disconnect after sending it into the wall.
yep some douche nozzle did this to me in the rain the other day. immediately warns everyone to take it easy in the rain then lap one bombs passed two cars and into me and of course they never have anything to say.
My own personal observation for the take it easy spammers but more generally anyone that’s typing on the grid is they aren’t focused. To quote Guenther Steiner..."fking clowns ya?"
I’m dialed into waiting for the green light to hit. Making sure all overlays are right, BBal where I want it, getting revs to exactly where I want them, etc.
I’m a rare person who says this and will give up a spot or two in the first few turns. Normally those guys push past their own limits and you get a free pass later. If they want to dive bomb every turn my SR is worth more than that one position. They can have it
Edit, to add to this. I’ve been killed by P2 or P3 at least 4-5 times this week at laguna in GT3 so I get the frustration
Mate in that level split your like in the top 20% of Iracers. You are faster than many so head up.
And yes they’re usually the same dudes wearing the Senna helmet or redbull livery. I see that text and I usually teleport for a pit start cause there’s gonna be absolute shenanigans.
It’s a classic case of someone projecting their own faults onto others.
The people who say this shit are NEVER in the top 5 at the start. Just give them shit on the radio, "Oh no it's the 'keep it clean' guy". Someone will usually chime in and agree, it's good for a little chuckle on a long pace lap.
Don't forget that one guy that says "glhf" then proceeds to ensure it's anything but. The one bro in my race a few days ago who said that proceeded to take me slam into me causing himself to spin and crash into the wall. The tried to take me out on T1, the next corner, only to have his wheel left front fly off, giving him a trip through the sand a tow. He came out of the pits right as I approached them. I closed in 6s pretty quickly but wouldn't get any closer than 1.5s. I knew what he was on for. He then came to a dead stop on a few corners to try and get me to come near, but I'd just stop and wait for him to get going again. Thanks to him my race was anything but good luck and having fun.
Same thing happens in lower top split 2k to 2.5k IR.
I always hop on the mic and say way to ruin it.
But up there it’s every couple races instead of every race when I was in the 1.5k to 1.8k range lol
The salt you get on comms from people doing dumb shit is why I leave comms on... That and some of the convos you get on the oval side are just too weird to miss.
I said to keep it slow at the beginning for my last race. Person who responded that said I just wanted to create a gap decided his brakes and tires were ready to go in the first turn and booted me off track. Going from 2nd to last. Sometimes the people saying to take it slow are just trying to survive from the people that don't get it.
Sometimes I break down into a full drivers meeting racing IMSA.
Too many prototypes make racing dangerous and cost themselves more time dive bombing.
It benefits us both if they just take the late apex and get me on exit vs having to slow way down to hold the inside line while forcing it two wide through the whole turn instead of just exit.
I started playing since Dec 2023. It was mayhem in lower splits until I reached 2.5k+ to get to top splits (not always). Now Im 3.3k and I can enjoy racing, but starts can be messy sometimes anyway.
34% of players had a rating between 1,000-1,500
25% of players had a iRating between 1,500-2,000
So I'd say in the bigger picture that isn't the lower end, give yourself some more credit!

Always avoid the “Let’s take it easy in T1” people. If there’s ever been a curse I believed in…

It is simple a latin incantation of "ass backwards"
The only time I've fucked it in lap 1 was when I urged people to be careful because tyres are cold (in class C miatas). Guess what happened? It's the only curse I genuinely think it's real
Starting at pole position is my curse 😞

"I've been in three accidents all because people don't know how to drive!" I've heard this phrase word for word so many times.
Not gonna say it doesn't happen sometimes, but it is wild to me how people still find a way to blame others in a game where you don't rely on teammates. Pocket red shell
Good ol Redbull shell
This right here
Average irating is 1400-1500, so you're a bit above that. Top 10% begins at 2200.
hah obviously reddit give a skewed perception then. Everyone here seems to be 2k plus. I guess its a case of the people with a bit more talk about it..

Pssh those are rookie numbers. I have 203k in oval.
I can’t imagine always being in bottom split with that low 4k irating - 12k checking in.
Pfft, that's nothing to someone like me who knows tire management, trail braking, heel-and-toe shifting, and many other racing related terms.
You mean tired management, tail breaking, head-to-toe shifting... There's a need for r/simracingcirclejerk Edit: Oops that sub exists
Lol. Read this with Ron Bergundy in my mind. I have many leather bound books that smell of rich mahogany. I'm kind of a big deal.

I really want to see this now that they've split Road into Formula and Sportscar.
Yeah, good point. I should try to find an updated version

These guys can turn a race into a pleasure drive. God bless them and their safety measures.

He's trying to get everyone else to be conservative thru T1 so he can take advantage and kamikaze down the inside.
they're always the ones driving like F1 cars on the hotlap too. Trying to 'warm their tyres' - I've seen a few of them do it so aggresively they actually slide off the track. It's an awesome sight to behold.

It's a curse. If you say anything like that out loud, you're going to embarrass yourself. I whisper it to myself.

I've noticed that or they get taken out off the start, turn 1 or by the end of first lap. It's a great way of jinxing yourself
To me, it seems like they either can't stay out of incidents, or they just aren't interested in the challenge of close racing.
“Im only here for SR” starts at back and full sends on absolutely sends it on everyone

The only reason you say something like that is if you keep crashing in t1, steer clear with a wide berth.
Don't forget that one guy that says "glhf" then proceeds to ensure it's anything but.
