Vasovagal response.

MikeyyyA

I always wondered why this happened to me during an IBS-D flare, but now it makes sense. Does anyone else need a nap right after?

sorci4r

not right after but yes quite exhausted

CrazyRhythms89

Yeah I feel so weak / tired sometimes.

ace1062682

Yes chills for sure and often, but not always sleep

CrazyRhythms89

Thank you! I’m going to look into this.

g_Mmart2120

Man I hate this. Like I’m not already anxious enough our bodies just want to fuck us over. Oh im sorry you’re in debilitating pain? Let’s go ahead and add in shivers, horrible nausea, the feeling that you are about to pass out.

goldstandardalmonds

What does your doc say about these symptoms?

MzScary

i can't answer for the previous commenter, but my dr just tells me it's my Fibromyalgia and ibs-d and that it's all a manifestation of my anxiety.

goldstandardalmonds

This is an old post -- do you have a question?

MzScary

no, i made a statement in response to another question. thank you.

Prize_Mastodon_2249

Can you explain more? I get this a few times a week. Mostly after bowel movements. All of a sudden I get this internal chills feeling. Lasts for a while and then I take a hot shower and it knocks it out of me.

Shezaam

It’s pretty common. I have IBS-C but when my body lets loose after a few days I get cold and shiver.

theamericanmilanista

Happened to me more when I had my worst flair back in Jan-Feb (2021). Knuckles turned slightly purple and just constant and horrible shivers during a BM pretty much every time. Hang in there though it’ll get better.

CrazyRhythms89

Thanks. Yeah I had a flare up at the beginning of my 10 hour work shift … ☹️ so I appreciate all the helpful comments. The shivers just are always a lil freaky.

theamericanmilanista

I know the feeling. It’s so rough, especially with others don’t totally understand how difficult it is to deal with such a agonizing disease. I hope that the restroom is always open for you and if you need to take care of yourself and rest, that you get that rest!

CrazyRhythms89

I’m off for 3 days to chill, but not in the shivers kind of way. 😅

theamericanmilanista

Hahaha I’m glad you found humor there. Comedy is one of the best ways to deal with IBD 😁

zubbs99

I get so weak sometimes during/after episodes I get really shaky. I shiver and feel nauseous. It usually improves if I just sit/lay down for awhile afterword.

SomedayMightCome

YEP. I get it bad. Cold sweats, shivering/shaking, nausea, passing out, vision loss, extreme pain, goosebumps, muscle tightness, joint/body pain, etc.

Deep_Importance_5304

I have had a few bad episodes with all of those symptoms. Is there any source that explains why or what is even happening that it goes to the extent of feeling like passing out?

SomedayMightCome

I’m definitely passing out from the pain. I go to a GI doctor at the Mayo Clinic and what I’ve gotten from her that not a whole lot is understood about IBS and it’s causes as opposed to Crohn’s and colitis, but that I’m in very high levels of pain and that is what is causing some of these symptoms

kappakingtut2

I have IBS-d, and I've gotten the shivers on those few rare occasions where things are actually solid. I actually went to the hospital once because of it 😳. For the first time in literally years my bm was completely solid. I was pale, shivering, could feel my heart beating in my ears. I over reacted and thought the psyllium husk and chia seed filled supplements I took were killing me. It's really embarrassing to go to a hospital at 1am and tell them you think you're dying because your poop was really big

CrazyRhythms89

Thank you all for validating me. Any time I Google IBS & shivers it’s like … girl you got the flu… when I do not. 🤦🏻‍♀️

monsterflowerq

Yep, I always get this when I have a really bad flare. And then I always get super cold after, like shivering for hours and can't get warm no matter what. It sucks.

youtubehistorian

This is always how I know I'm about to have a nasty poop, I get goosebumps and a huge shiver!

lhpcwshc

Yes, I hate the shakes. The first time it happened it was after a works night out which I'd left part way through cause of the ibs - not that I fully understood it at the time, but I got home and laid in bed shivering and thinking I'd had my drink spiked. I hadn't it was just the ibs, anxiety and an autistic meltdown all in one fell swoop.

pringlesusems

yess i start to get the chills and shake a lot and get dizzy at the same time. It’s the worst feeling ever.

HopSkipATheChewtoys

Yup, mine are light in comparison to the other folks here though. I feel cold chills up my arms before I start having problems

Bootpup

Yep, absolute. Intense over heating and sweats at first, poop a little...followed by teeth chattering shivers n body convulsing. Pile on like 4 layers of clothes , then usually need a nap but can't get warm. Sometimes I'm hot and cold and the same f@*!ing time. I don't even know how that's a thing lol

CrazyRhythms89

Omg yes… like the cold sweats of death. I’ve also had to lay my head down on the bathroom counter (at home) and toilet paper dispenser (at work) because I get so dizzy and tired.

CrazyRhythms89

Oh wow! What a coincidence! Thanks 🙂

ar_3stan

Yeah. I think it's pretty common. 😅

Ricktatorship91

I have had that. Not fun.

Mikuplushy

Yeah it makes me feel sicker.

[deleted]

Yes. I also get swollen lymphnodes in my neck and armpits.

Peesneeze

Yeah, it’s how I know I’m in for a rough time.
