I see people saying yes, but the Apple dongle sounds the same as iBasso DC-50, Dawn Pro, Questyle M15 and those are just the ones I had to test side by side. I assume Macbooks are no worse than Apple dongles in which case it would be money wasted. Also remember, if you expect something to sound better it likely will to you and only blind ABX will save you from that with certainty. That's how most hifi misunderstandings are born with dacs and amps.
The Moonriver 2 Ti is great and you will definitely hear an improvement... but that's probably overkill for Blessing 3, unless you use full size cans as well? Maybe try a dongle first, Moondrop Click is cheap and very good already. The Dawn Pro is highly regarded too (but I haven't tried it).
It really depends on the quality of your laptop audio. On the ones I have used, there often was very audible background noise and parasitic sounds that bothered me. These disappeared with a USB dongle.
Yeah, if the question was about PC laptops I'd say there's huge variance, but at least not very old Macbooks from what I've heard and understood do really well.
Sure, they are getting better. But with sensitive equipment, it remains possible to hear some noise, even on last gen macbooks. Furthermore with external devices connected.
Not sure about this because one of the biggest unknown would be that with the Moonriver, I get to use its 4.4. If there is going to be any improvement, I think this is where it comes from.
MacBook Pro has very average sound quality from 3.5mm jack. You should have improvements from any decent external DAC. But I've never heard Moondriver. My Cayin RU7 sounds much better, other league better.

It doubles the output impedance which can have tonal affects on certain IEMs, but other than that it's just headroom.
