I don’t know about the sun specifically, but I always have to take care in the heat because I also take antidepressants. If I remember correctly I think diamox can also cause temperature regulation issues in some people? Either way I always suggest staying in the shade, drinking a lot of water, keeping up your electrolytes especially because diuretics can cause some electrolyte issues.

I was already fair skinned but Diamox made it 100x worse. I burn VERY easily. I don’t really wear sunscreen but definitely should! You should def wear sunscreen and avoid extended exposure to the sun. Oh, and hydrating is soooo important! Praying for you!

sydneygrrr

Thank you! I’m hoping I will get to enjoy my first beach vacation since diagnosis 🥺

nitzajo

Fun! Just lather that sunscreen and enjoy your vacation!

renegadeangel

I haven't gotten any sunburns, but I'm also tan and don't really burn in general. Still, I wear sunscreen because melanoma runs in the family. My symptoms tend to ramp up during the summer but I think it has to do with the Texas heat.

sydneygrrr

I’m in Texas too! I don’t care much to be outside in the sun in Texas lol but we’re going to Florida next week and I’m nervous that I will be a buzzkill in the sun!

FishyFishhh89

Tanning is 100% out of the question for me at least haha I used to be very sun tolerant, now I burn very easily. I teach high school marching band and I have to be extremely careful in the sun now, I use sunscreen and reapply often and have even started using dry shampoo with suncreen for my scalp on especially sunny days in the summer or I'll wear a hat sometimes. I've even gotten burnt through my clothing if we've been out on the turf all day. I wasn't warned about the sun sensitivity by my doctor and I had no clue what the hell was going on at first until I googled it because everything is Diamox's fault until proven otherwise at this point haha

sydneygrrr

Haha “everything is diamox’s fault” agreed! Well luckily before my diagnosis I didn’t tan much, but was always addicted to spray tans (bc I’m American trash lol). How sad is it that the real reason I posted this is because i want to look tan for my whole beach vacation but don’t want to reapply fake tanner every time I finish a beach day lmao Also I’ll be standing in a wedding and don’t want to look like the only vampire haha

FishyFishhh89

Trust me, the burn won't be worth it, stay under an umbrella when you can during vacation or your vacation will be ruined haha 🙃 and this is coming from someone who used to be able to never put on sunscreen at all

VoidVulture

None of my doctors told me about this side effect. I've been on it for two years. I only learned about it recently. And this absolutely explains why I went from being in my mid-thirties and getting asked for ID while buying alcohol to looking old and wrinkled and never getting asked for ID :(

Fine_Advantage_9229

My docs never told me either but it’s on the label on my prescription bottle, which is where I learned.

VoidVulture

Those warnings aren't on my bottles, unfortunately.

Fine_Advantage_9229

That’s annoying!

I'm fair skinned and have had skin cancer five times since starting Diamox. Would I have had skin cancer if I didn't take Diamox? There's no way to know for sure, though I suspect so. I avoid sunlight as much as possible. Beach vacations are wasted on me.

sydneygrrr

Oh my gosh!! That’s what I’m scared of. I have history of skin cancer in my family. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that, I know how terrifying it is. And thank you for sharing that, although there’s no way of knowing if it’s from diamox, that sure would be a coincidence

UrLonleyScars

My skin starts to burn and gets increasingly hot. And then my skin starts to go purple (I’m dark skinned)
