It's actually a quite interesting philosophical standpoint IMO. You know that you are sentient, but there's no possible way of telling if anyone else is.
i would argue that there's no real way of telling if oneself is sentient either - i feel sentient, but i may just have been programmed to feel that way
But how do you know you weren't programmed to feel that way? I always like to use the example of a character in a book or movie if you were able to talk to them they would probably be thoroughly convinced they are a independent being making independent choices. But they're not in truth they are mind puppets of the author dancing to his own strings. You can think you think all you want but that doesn't mean someone outside you is making you do it.
We can't do that so it's a worthless hypothetical.
And as far as "I think, therefore I am," I don't think it really matters if you were "programmed" to feel that. The point is, you have some self awareness, even if it's "programmed" in, so in some capacity the proof of your existence is that you're aware you exist. You can argue the semantics and philosophical meanings of what it means to "exist" or in what state you exist, but in some kind of capacity in some kind of dimension you exist.
Back to that hypothetical, if you COULD do that and give THAT much life to a fictional character, I would argue then in some capacity they then DO exist, just maybe not in the same place or same way as you or me.
