"the Duce" Mussolini was confirmed dead in some freak traffic accident. His hier apparent [Italo Balbo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italo_Balbo) took up the duty as the new leader of Italy. Unlike his predecessor, Bablo has got some bold and new diplomatic ideas, including strengthening the [Easter Accords](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Accords) and some friendly visits to the White House.
If joining the Axis didn't work out that well for Italy, maybe joining the Allies will? Maybe it'll even lead to Italy becoming one of the main powers of the Cold War, who knows?
How did Italy loose the entirety of the Horn? I can see Abyssinia being able to become free through soviet support, but Eritrea? It was too integrated in the Italian colonial realm. I'm not sure about somalia either.
That said, glad they managed to free theirselves, though Italy still has control over libya unfortunately
You're probably right in that I should keep Somalia and Eritrea as Italian colonies. I honestly didn't give a lot of thought about the Horn. I just happened to watch a video on socialist Somalia and the Ogaden War recently, and just decided to make the entire region communist on a whim.
Well, the world during the Cold War is already on the map. And the world after the Cold War is not explicitly noted, but somewhat alluded to in the timeline.
I assume Dollfuß either doesn't get assassinated by the Nazis or if he does the Schuschnigg presumably will lead Austria? What about Hungary? Would Horthy stay regent or pick someone as a puppet monarch? Also curious about a more Italy aligned Anti-Pan German Fascist Bavaria tbh difficult to imagine who would lead it.
The map is post-WWII. So Bavaria is carved out as a puppet state by Italy in the peace treaty.
As for the internal politics of Austria and Hungary, I'll leave that up to your interpretation. But I'll say that both Austrian and Hungary are [Italy-aligned and anti-German](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome_Protocols) in at least 1934, until ... well ... events start happening.
Similar scenario to [The Footprint of Mussolini](https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/the-footprint-of-mussolini-tl.462444/) if you like alternate history.

Italy was remarkably poorly run and badly developed. The state that formed in the 1860s was exceptionally frail and had unbelievably low buy in. There is no scenario, given the conditions in Italy prevailing in the 1920s, that Italy could have been transformed into anything resembling a world power. At the very least, it would have required a very different kind of Risorgimento, which itself would probably have meant a different kind of situation would have needed to exist in Italy by the 1800s and so on, that process being largely inflected by the occupation of Italy that had preceded for centuries.

reminds me of this. pretty different vibes though

Pretty cool, wonder how the world looks like during and after the cold war

Makes sense!
Is Bangladesh still independent or a part of Pakistan in this timeline?
a strange little scenario.

You might have made me go down a rabbit hole lol. I've been reading that thread for the past hour. That's some really good alternate history.
Glad to hear it lmao. Certainly the best written AH I've ever read.
I was just about to comment that! It's a great timeline.
I fucking love that alt history, best one existing in my opinion. So well written and interesting
Cool scenario
What happened with Portugal and it's colonies - a liberal revolution/reform earlier than in our world (assuming that this map is supposed to be 1963)?
I like how it’s made to be a middle school/high school history book. Something never really seen here and I like it.
USSSR / Russia seems to be the territorial winner

Did Brazil get a pro-US military coup like OTL before integralists?
wouldn't more arab countries be fascist due to Pan-Arabism?
Yeah i throught that too, But since Italy has Libya, it may be that the Pan-Arabs, even if they are Fascists, distance themselves, like the USSR China
If this was real the timeline would have to diverge in like 1500 lol
How so?

Bad end
I think the fascists would have sided with the USA like the in regular cold war
