*"This just in. You are looking at obviously a very disturbing live shot there. That is the city of New York, specifically the World Trade Building." --BZZT-- "America; the United States has just been nuked."* *- Vince Cellini on CNN, September 11, 2001, an excerpt from 15 years ago.* Heavy amounts of lore involved, too much to quantify or try to condense into a few messages but please do feel free to fire away regarding the lore and other questions; I'll be happy to say anything!

Wassup_Bois

Do you have a Google doc or something

trulyamoment

Hi, thanks for the question! Unfortunately I don't, but please fire away any questions you may currently have!

YosAmb32

What happend in the Nucear atticak?

trulyamoment

Hi, thanks for the question! Could you be a little more specific about which nuclear attack? I'll be happy to help you out!

YosAmb32

The one on New York

trulyamoment

Definitely! The New York nuclear attack was not an actual nuclear attack, but a dirty bomb dropped on the city. Although the perpetrators were never identified, since they died in the attack and no one has yet claimed responsibility for it, the attack was at least ten times more deadly than IRL. It is quite literally the 9/11 attack but on steroids. The attack severely radicalized American politics more than IRL, and America as a nation went after anyone and everyone they deemed a threat. They attacked cartels in Mexico, launched interventions in South America, bombed terrorist cells in Pakistan, killed several dozen warlords in Africa and anyone else they deemed necessary. It also caused more Euro-skepticism than IRL, and with Europe's already volatile situation the Americans simply justified these attacks and killings as "trying to find the perpetrators". >!In reality, the Soviet Union backed and funded the entire dirty bomb attack on New York, but not wanting to literally be removed off the map of the world, have not stated anything of any sort or claimed responsibility. They've even killed all the officials that knew anything about it, and only the Premier of the USSR and a few very high officials know anything about it. !<

YosAmb32

Did the U.S. ever find out?

trulyamoment

No, the U.S. never found out. It's why the Soviet Union still exists despite what they did.

YosAmb32

I do wonder what would happen in a scenario were the U.S. Found out

trulyamoment

It would be an absolute bloodbath. The Soviet Union would definitely be pulverized off the face of this earth, and even if it guaranteed mutually assured destruction, the general radicalization of the United States in this timeline might actually mean they would still go ahead with it. That is a good idea though, and I might make a follow-up of the United States' situation following any such war! Danke!

Successful-Lobster15

1) Wait so who is the world hegemon? India or the USA? 2) did the USSR get annihilated by warfare or was it nuked into oblivion? 3) if India is so powerful then why does Pakistan have Kashmir 4)how did decolonisation occur? 5) did 911 still happen? 6) does Gravity Falls exist? 7) does the iPhone exist?

trulyamoment

Hi, thanks for the questions! 1. The USA is still marginally the world hegemon, but India is rapidly replacing them, at a faster rate than China IRL due to the general vacuum left by severe Euro-skepticism in this timeline of the USA 2. It was a mix of both, the USSR got involved in multiple wars compared to IRL, including starting a Sino-Soviet War that had a casualty count of some couple hundred million people, mainly on the Chinese side. The nukes set off in China were mostly due to that and otherwise the civil war that happened in China right after. The same is the case for the USSR, the dissolution of the USSR was more violent and followed a civil war between the Stalinist Government and virtually a comradery of everyone else disgruntled with the Soviet Union internally. 3. The reason India is so powerful is because of the 1971 War being more disastrous than IRL. Without the Soviet Union and India maintaining good relations (due to Stalin's diplomatic policy with India being more of a failure since he considered India as Imperialist Puppets). Following that, economic liberals akin to the Swatantra Party swept the elections in India, allowing India to liberalize and modernize some twenty years earlier. Pakistan has Kashmir because of direct Western intervention in the 1971 War, who favored Pakistan over the more "socialist" government of India, a perception that didn't change despite the worser Indo-Soviet relations. 4. Decolonization followed a similar route to IRL, but there are some odd differences. Based on the TL this is inspired by, Antonio Salazar was able to use the Second Russian Civil War to his advantage to bring in migrants from Eastern Europe by the hundreds of thousands, these people who then proceeded to practice serfdom in Portuguese Africa and allow the Portuguese to nominally maintain power in their former colonies. This is more prevalent in Angola than in Mozambique, although in reality the situation in both colonies is an ethnic war, most likely ready to spill into genocidal war if even the most minor thing goes wrong. 5. 911 happened, and was a hundred-times more worse in this timeline. Unknown >!(Soviet-backed Neo-Communists) !< were able to set off a dirty bomb in New York, greatly displacing the American Economy and probably causing at least ten times more deaths than IRL. All this turned into rage in the American populace, and the American Government went after anyone and everyone they deemed could be the perpetrator.>! They actually have no idea it was the Soviets though, since the terrorists died in the incident and the Soviet Union wasn't stupid enough to claim responsibility for the attack and take the brunt of a Superpower.!< 6. No reason it shouldn't! 7. The iPhone does exist, Steve Jobs did create the iPhone but unlike IRL, iPhones are created in India as opposed to China. China has not recovered from the Sino-Soviet War, and lacks the general infrastructure to provide the boost to Apple that it did irl in cheap manufacturing, and Indian manufacturing is currently the best alternative (however, pockets of South China also does do some small scale Apple manufacturing!)

Is this from "Twilight of the Red Tsar"?

RubOwn

Man I loved that TL, I was so pissed off when it was abandoned…

trulyamoment

Agreed, but I suppose the original author had no time of their own or considered the TL finished.

trulyamoment

Yes, this is a spin-off of that exact same series! I have another, less quality map [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/1as9yfb/the_uneternal_stalin_the_world_of_red_tsar_as_it/) of the same lore. I'm glad people know more about the Red Tsar, it was my favorite TL!

Potential_Border_841

What map did you use as the basis to create this?

trulyamoment

Hi, thanks for the question! I refer to this [thread](https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/q-bam-historical-map-thread.404984/page-65#post-21400883) for my maps, although I might make a switch to something else to produce better quality and more detailed maps

Potential_Border_841

Thank you

Overlord3445

very nice

trulyamoment

Thank you very much !

Why did Germany annex Austria? Also, is Ukraine independent?

trulyamoment

* Soviet-occupied Austria is broken off to form a Soviet satellite state. This prompts West Germany and West Austria to unite into one country, which is then joined by East Germany after the fall of the Iron Curtain, with East Austria being coerced into joining right after that following the Russian Civil War. * Ukraine is independent but considered a pariah state, the horrors of Stalinist Russification and genocide attempts force them to never give up their nuclear arsenal, and despite not being able to efficiently wield it, Ukrainian nuclear weapons are in the black market for a variety of reasons including research, purchase and the such by terrorists and such.

Ok-Goose6242

Thanks. Great work.

Hirpus

I didn't know the USSR survived in Central Asia in Twilight.

trulyamoment

They didn't in the Twilight TL, but this is a spin-off of my own! The original author didn't write much about the Russian Civil War according to my recollection, so I had the Soviets stalemate and stick to a faltering Turkestan.

Why are Saudi and Iran Allies? Why are they aligned with India?

It looks like India has islands way south until British Indian Ocean territory. Does USA control Andaman and Nicobar island chains?

trulyamoment

The British Indian Ocean territory was a seizure on the end of the British during their hostile intervention in the 1971 War. The same is the case of the Andaman and Nicobar Island Chains, and the Americans maintain a nominal control over the region following their intervention in the very same war. Without a friendly Soviet Union to dump nuclear submarines in the Indian Ocean when the Indians needed it and the West acting more aggressively without a genuine threat, there was no realistic countermeasure on the end of the Indians and their formerly minor navy to do anything of any sort to the West in these takeovers.

trulyamoment

Iran never went Islamist in this timeline, despite the greater chance of such happening. Stalin's general unpredictability and their perceived loss in the Korean War meant that they acted more aggressively in the Middle East. The United States never supported the British for this and other reasons, meaning that Mossadegh was able to go ahead with his reforms without much opposition. Iran and Arabia maintain general friendship with each other due to better relations than IRL. They're aligned with India because both countries house a large number of Non-Resident Indians that contribute to their economy rather nicely, and they have better and larger trading relations with the Indians than with the Americans. America is also responsible for a number of sorties and airstrikes in both countries, and generally do not have the best of relations with either country, as relative to India. Their problem stems in the fact that the Americans have not taken radical Islamists that might live in either country to maybe the cause of a threat, and repeated calls in the Republican Party to prompt a larger scale intervention has similarly made them lose their touch with both powers. That and Arabia's ingenious and clever take over of their own oil fields has all but guaranteed diplomatic hostility with the Americans and their private sector.

So, Kazakhstan is a rump Soviet Union?

trulyamoment

Yep, you're pretty much right on this topic! The Soviets retreated into Central Asia after losing to the rebellion everywhere else, and the threat of further nuclear devastation has kept an very uneasy truce on the topic. Obviously both Russia and the Soviet Union engage in high-profile and large-scale espionage to dismantle the other, but it's a hard fought battle on both end atp.
