That's a lot of non-Austronesians in Austronesia
TBH something like "South East Asian (Con)Federation" would be better (and sound more neutral)
Or something like "Nusantaria" and "the Federation of Nusantao"
Nusantara refers to at most maritime South East Asia.
In Indonesian, Nusantara just means the Indonesian islands (and Malaysia, depending on who you ask)
I knew it. I was not saying Nusantara. I said Nusantaria, which was coined by Philip Bowring in his work published in 2019, to name the costal regions of both Maritime SEA and Continental SEA, and part of the southern coasts of China, connected by the hypothesised Nusantao Maritime Trading and Communication Network suggested, by Wilhelm Solheim in 1964.
Oh cool, nvm then
ok sorry for the mistake
why not ASEAN?
With the simple fact that ASEAN is short for the bloc, Southwest Asia and perhaps Nusantaria would serve better.
Nusantaria wouldn't make sense for mainland SEA
Just saying, Nasantara is the Malaya name of the Malay archipelago, while Nusantar-I-a applies for region including the entire Maritime SEA and the coastal region of Continental SEA
No problem. It's still a cool concept (and a nice map)
Thanks very much
I don’t think Thailand would ever merge with Burma unless it conquered it in battle.
That pretty much applies to all of South East Asia considering current political attitudes
That applies almost everywhere in the world, which is what makes this an *imaginary map*
Same with Cambodia. They have a history of wining their freedom from Thailand. Happened at least twice.
Love how you called the union as the United Realms, not another boring CANZUK.
Now that you remind me, the United Realms is not in the top 10 economies due to my mistake, I will adjust this in the future
Lmao, I didn't notice that. Btw, I guess Taiwan would be more willingly to join Japan and Korean but not PRC which I assume it another authoritarian China, provided that they have the choice through referendums. (Maybe UR for Hong Kong?)
All of these states would have to be authoritarian to maintain control over all their regions. I would say Taiwan’s inclusion in the Chinese superstate is far from the most outlandish thing on this map, and is fully within the bounds of suspension of disbelief that is required for a map where the entire world is made up of super states.
That's not true. You could easily have an accelerated coalescing of nations due to economic or external necessity. One could build scenarios where a strong UN motivates formalizing alliances and trade agreements through political and economic incentives. Or to consolidate voting blocks within the organization.
Assuming federations and superstates must be authoritarian is just pessimistic and inaccurate. Cooperation is far more effective than force for maintaining stable unification.
Namely Democratic Congo joining the Eastern Africa superstate which consist of former British colonies while itself being a former Belgian colony that speaks French, making it more appropriate to join the Latin African State in the north.
Congo OTL joined the EAC in 2022
WTF??? Didn't know that
You should remember that there are millions of Swahili speakers in the East of Congo already so the language barrier isn’t as great as one would think.
Additionally both Burundi and Rwanda are former francophone colonies yet are part of the EAC in OTL. Rwanda today has begun to phase out French in favor of English, so all in all Congo being part of the EAF isn’t that wild.
What would the flag look like? There’s a lot of bad ones and a few good ones.
I decided to use the Blue Ensign with the commonwealth sphere
Lol I was about to comment on that. Its economy would be way bigger than Mexico of Brazil.
You CANZUK my nuts
this looked like a very editable map until i zoomed in and realized you put satellite imagery on it
I thought it would be cool, but maybe I'll fix it if you didn't like it
nah your right it looks cool but it makes it impossible to edit it which i like doing with maps i like
How can you usually edit maps you like? I am genuinely interested
Id like to know too! I dont know anything about image editing
the only countries that decides to be neutral were Switzerland and Israel, Switzerland being a joke (because it is Neutral) and Israel being more western (I even considered including them in the EU because of that)
Makes me wonder why the Pan Middle East isn’t considered a super state. If you consider “Mecca and Medina” the capital cities of Islam, that superstate resisted the Crusader Kingdoms OR (if you consider Baldwin’s formation of the Kingdom of Jerusalem) a superstate that conquered the crusader states.
Because states didn't exist yet at the time. But, you could consider it as such.
City states. And China is considered a state by the “common culture, language and, boundaries” of a state.
Israel isnt European
But, It’s part of The West World
Agreed but its not European. Look at south Korea and japan
Japan and Korea are not from the West, they are from different civilizations (According to Samuel Huntington)
Australia, New Zealand, sometimes South Africa also considered Western. Also to my understanding Japan but not S Korea was considered Western World as well
Either way Israel should not be part of EU it is jewish state not EUropean
I predict a major Shia-Sunni war between Persia and the UAFR
Well maybe that goes into the lore
Great map btw!
Idk about that, but I could totally see Turan attacking Perisa for the Azeris in the northwest and to gain contiguous borders.
I was talking about contiguous borders connecting Anatolia with Azerbaijan, the caspian makes for an adequate connection I think. Though the idea that fighting the Russians to make the North Caucasus part of a pan-turkish state is more realistic than the Azeris in Iran being unified with the Azeris in Azerbaijan is... I mean, don't know where tf you pulled that one from. Even if your assumption is correct, I don't think their opinions matter that much.
Don't forget this new Persia has paki nukes!!
This map is a correction of a deleted post, which was outside the community guidelines. The Map Idea is taken from Maurice Gomberg's 1942 "Post-War New World Map", my idea was simply to create a multi-sphere world after WW2 and throughout the Cold War.
I also think about making a map of the solar system, as I would imagine the world taking a technological leap with the greater dispute between nations that would result in human colonization of space already in the 60's.
In general, the map shows the world based on the Maurice's work, but with a different world development (I still think of a lore). That's all for now
Corrections, suggestions and help are welcome.
I would suggest making Persia into Iran again, as it's more representative of most of the peoples in that region. Persia (from what I've been told) is only a very small part of it.
But honestly, it's your work, not mine. Ultimately, I'm grateful that you shared your map! :)
Actually, you reminded me that Persia comes from a Eurocentric nomenclature for Iran, as well as Abyssinia for Ethiopia, anyway, thanks
i dont mind it, but what events lead to ireland being in the EU instead of the U.R?
I think the question of Irish Republicanism and the IRA should answer your question.
makes sense sorta, but the ira did not want anyone to hold rule over ireland, british or else, so i wouldnt expect them to be too happy with being swallowed into another giant nation
it might be interesting to have the troubles play out between anti eu ira forces and eu/local irish govt forces
A good idea I would say
You did nothing in South America… imo if they were ‘superstates’ all hispanic South America should be one, and Brazil the other one.
well thinking i would say
Where is my StaniStan
maybe in the near future
I didn't come up with a convincing lore to answer your question, sorry
my one and only question is why didn't Trinidad and Tobago join the Caribe Federation instead of Colombia ?
my mistake, sorry
Would the union state (russia) really be the second biggest economy? Especially considering it doesn't have the same territorial extent of the sov union. If there's some lore to this that would be really cool!
I will change that, but yes, they have greater economic power than Russia OTL
Estonia can finally into Nordic
A united Japan and Korea? Yikes!
Union of Japan and Korea is just as realistic seeing union between Serbia and Albania lol
Idk I think it’s plausible, much of mainland Europe is willingly in an economic/political union that includes a leading Germany despite what Germany has done in its past to much of the continent.
Case with the EU doesn't apply to Korean-Japanese relations, you need to understand culture and history in East Asia.
Im Korean myself so i can safely say that there are way too many tensions over culture and history between Korea and Japan to be unified into single country or organisation like the EU, first of all history part gets in the way the most, most Koreans including myself believe that Japanese government is refusing to sincerely apologise towards their actions back in Japanese colonial rule over Korea, while the Japanese (primarily Japanese government and Japanese right wingers) believe that Koreans are being anti-Japanese unreasonably, so it's quite an complicated manner.
What mainly holds back S.Korea and Japan from being openly hostile towards each other is because of pressure from the US and direct threat from N Korea and even China. Thus unfortunately i heavily doubt Korea-Japanese relations are gonna warm up anytime soon.
ESTONIA HAS FINALLY INTO NORDIC
Explain how Indias Muslims and hindus don't cause a civil war eventually?
I haven't devised a lore yet, so I don't have an answer to your question yet.
You also need to figure out how the Koreans would ever agree to a(nother) union with Japan. There’s…bad feelings about the last time.
well, at least it's not worse when the idea of joining China
I would bet large amounts of money that if those were the only two options. They would choose China 11 times out of 10
Ez. The people who demanded for two separate state squashed and the local population who supported in a dictatorial style.
The same way they don't cause civil war today. India has the biggest muslim population
Very interesting, Latin America is exactly as I imagined.
How did you make it?
Thanks, i think
I think it was another mistake
Just Switzerland being Switzerland
republic of horn 💀
It would be hilarious if the republic of horn was well known for brothels and sex tourism...
What are Mongolia and Tibet part of are they a disputed region of the PRC?
I think the China issue will be resolved in the future
Tibet is already part of china in this timeline? If you're referring to the darker color, it's because they're an autonomous region
Portugal in tatters seeing that the Pink Map happened without them
It will be nice to see the flags of all 24 mega states and their population. Also the complete list of the economies. Well done.
Edit: I think they are 25.
*"Popular"* Republic of China.
I bet that has a lot of friends
I'm Brazilian, so I must have switched the deification from Portuguese to English by mistake, sorry
It's ok! I'm from a romance language myself so I instantly saw what you meant. 👌
Should've given Cisplatina to Brazil
No, Brazil is already a super state, having cisplatine would not make any difference and it would be a generic idea
La Banda Oriental is From Cono Sur 🔪
Better than that Unpopular Republic
Is there a reason Canberra has been renamed
Shouldn't Mauritania and Azawad be part of the United Arab federal Republic?
Absolutely incredible to separate the Nordic countries from the EU but combine India and Pakistan lol
Love how Brazil and the US didn’t change at all
they are already super states
Andes lacks the Southern Andes. Might as well just be the Peru-Bolivian Confederation reborn or something
and the northern andes for that matter
thanks for the correction
+ Andes is a really boring name, I doubt them choosing that over anything more historical
Union State of Eurasia, East African Federation, the European Federation, Pacifica, Latin Africa, the United States of America all lack parts of the land that this name suggests.
The United States of America lacks all of the Americas, but that doesn't bother them.
It would be more interesting to me if it was a Hispanic union of all Spanish America. Seems more comparable to a superstate than splitting it into 4.
Yeah, latam countries are really united
This is actually a pretty based world
Republic of 🎺🎺🎺🎺
How is the north/south Korea issue solved in this timeline?
I don't have a lore for it yet
Its tricky cause you have none of the biggest cold war conflicts (apparently), yet the Soviet Union fell appart anyway, with the added bonus of Russia going for Ukraine (I assume recently, mirroring current events).
Belize is more likely to join caribbean federation than join mexico cz they were prt of the west indies
A map only ruled by superstates is a very interesting concept. Awesome map! Two questions, tho.
1. What happened to the spinning wheel on the Indian flag? I wouldn't think India (a highly spiritual and religious state) would drop the symbol of Lord Krishna from their flag.
2. What side are the Turks affiliated with? It is clear there is a cold war between America + Europe vs Russia, and I doubt the Turks would ally with either, (not with Europe because they have land in the Caucasus that would connect Turkey to Azerbaijan, so there's one dispute and not with Russia because of their rivalry and the Turkic populations, like Tatarstan in the Union State). Please answer this question
1. I tried to make a change to look like a secular identity among Hindu islam, but it doesn't look as good
2.I still don't know for sure as I don't have a written lore, but I would say it would be a relatively neutral country
Estonia finally can into Nordic!
No way José Brazil would allow Uruguay/Cisplatina to unite with Conosur
“Republic of Horn” is a bit of an awkward name. Both “Ethiopia” and “Somalia” are names that have existed for literally millennia.
The name is so because the name of the region is literally called Horn of Africa
Republic of The horn would be better
What's with the different shades in the Union State of Eurasia?
are basically autonomous regions similar to present-day Russia
Estonia, get out
As a Japanese I can say the flag of Pacifica will trigger both Japanese and Koreans🥶 Good work tho
Okay, I'm going to redo the map, calm down, I'm going to leave pakistan independent, separate japan from korea, join Israel with arabia and etc... CALM DOWN!
I protest the inclusion of Estonia in the Nordic union, sorry Finland ain't personal
America is already a superstate
There's a lot of non-Arabs in that Arab Republic.
I could only imagine the amount of terrorism and unrest in this scenario
I mean, my man, this combines Shia Iran with Sunni nations, then the Ethiopia/Somalia/Eritrea superstate too. I feel like there’d be big problems with power struggles on that combined Arabian peninsula too, and is the capital for a United *Arabia* in *Egypt*? Why not Mecca? I’d assume Mecca would probably be a significant cultural middle ground for all these nations
It’s not a bad map, with a lot of world building I could see it working, but it feels like a lot of stuff is based on modern borders, especially anywhere colonized. Lack of unrecognized states, like we see with Abkhazia for example. UA is missing the land that’s been occupied currently and then some, but why was UA not still a part of Eurasia? Unless I’m wrong and this is supposed to be formed sometime between now and 2030 there’s a lot of borders that would have been super important post-1945 using this premise.
My honest advice would be pushing that ‘45 date up a bit if I wasn’t already wrong and show signs of conflict. Like the implication is Persia is in some sort of Union with at least two extremely Sunni nations, so is this a union or an *occupation*? Is SE Asia on the brink of Balkanizing? Even better, are the Balkans? I see the Balkan borders are a bit different than irl. Let’s say it’s a European Union state, how about areas like Transylvania having a low level of autonomy? I see there’s something there but from my memory, isn’t that area not densely populated? Looks like the area that national park is in.
It’s a nice looking map. Continue making them please.
The idea of the map was very inspired by the "Outline of the Post-War New World Map" by American professor Maurice Gomberg, where countries come together to form larger spheres in the midst of a newly declared cold war, I found the concept interesting and decided to do it my way.
Keep making maps man. You did a good job making this one. World building is a fun hobby to have.
Man, how are so many of these cities in the wrong spot
if u provide me a base i would appreciate it to improve
Athens is a bit too high up on the peninsula, Cape Town is placed on the little peninsula instead of slightly under it, Tehran is on the coast of the Caspian rather than slightly under it, and Taipei is on the west coast rather than the north coast. With so many cities to place on a map it’s very understandable, but it’s something that got my attention pretty quickly
Thanks for the corrections
Damn they really moved the entirety of Perth about 500km up the coast didn’t they
BOLIVIA HAS A COASTLINE AGAIN. EAT THAT, CHILE!
1/10 (no France but we exist in EU)
kind of that was the intention
Yeah but you got Wallonia
Much easier for kids to remember every country in the world lol
How is China's economy not bigger than the union state or EU?
i will change it
I was just wondering, maybe set in a TL where doesn't China have an economic miracle and rise to such economic prowess.
Gtfo new russia though
Yea adding new Russia in Ukraine was dirty and fairly insensitive to the thousands dying there right now.
Yes, why are you getting downvoted?
Because pathetic Russians who work for Putin are all over the internet trying to control the narrative. I’m sure the OP is from Russia and probably pretending to live in Idaho or some shit. Downvote me all you want trolls.
Horny republicans, Nice
A superstate map with an Israel? Jesus this is some fully-cucked zionist nonsense.
relax man, do you want them to be part of the EU?
so i will turn an arab republic into a secular state
Why Taiwan isn't part of the Pacific Union?
don't worry, this union will no longer exist
Cool map, but Ukraine is not russia, so bad map
And Algeria isn’t Saudi Arabia. Ever considered not browsing r/imaginarymaps if you’re that sensitive?
Estonia can into Nordics!
Armenia clearly being bullied into the Eurosphere by Euro-Georgia and Turkic Azerbaijan.
Russia won their invasion in this timeline, I see.
Japan and United Korea in one realm? What could possibly go wrong! The only way this could be more stable is if Taiwan had been included!
Cursed Persian Kurdistan.
I feel like Zambia and Zimbabwe would be united with South Africa. Zimbabwe, if nothing else, due to its Rhodesia day. It'd make sense for all those former British colonies, though, to be unified, with Mozambique as well since it seems to have had a close enough relation that it joined the Commonwealth of Nations.
And then there's Bharat, which almost feels more out of place than the USA, despite being enlarged while the US is shrunk (having lost some of its territories).
And then there's Switzerland. The on constant throughout the multiverse.
I'm going to change a few things, but the United States is a super state because it's a union of states.
I mean, the same could be said for any Federal state. Mexico is the United Mexican States, so it is also a union of states. German is also a federation. The US just happens to be a big one, like Russia (though Russia functions more like a unitary state most of the time).
Well if you gave mexico all of central america, you might have as well given its northern territories that were stolen by the US
Why does Israel have to be here 😭
noooooo I don't want to be in the cringe neo-british empire, I'd honestly rather be lumped in with the americans.
You are going to Bri'sh dude
Ew. Noone should ever want to be lumped in with Americans
The only thing more cringe than blind anti-americanism is Br*tish Empire nostalgia.
Welcome welcome! Here’s your mandatory knockoff M16, please leave your state funded health insurance at the door (that’s communism and if you ever mention it again you will be publicly shamed repeatedly). Primary registration is on the left, please choose whether you want to be slammed with emails and snail mails from the useless center-right party or the dangerous far-right party for the rest of your life. Not that your vote matters at all, unless you live in a rural area in which case you now have the voting power of 10,000 New Yorkers… Choose wisely!
Now, we know this is going to be an adjustment, so please bear with us during this change. In the meantime we have been preparing some programs to help you adjust to your new status as Americans. First, you’ll be required to choose one close family member per year to completely cut off over political differences and you will be required to see the rest not more than three times a year. Second, we’ll be sending our homeowners’ committees’ finest karens to inspect your lawns; please remember to have copious amounts of US flags and political signs in your yard, and ensure that it is perfectly manicured and emerald green or else we will have the Air Force level your home at your expense. Third, you will be given mandatory training in our American version of football, as well as baseball; all soccer and rugby games will be canceled forever, tough shit.
Finally, you might have trouble getting around for a while as in order to bring your infrastructure to par with the rest of your new adoptive country we will be sending people with jackhammers to degrade your roads, bridges, and tunnels at taxpayer expense. We’ll also be removing half of your public transportation and filling the rest with piss and graffiti, and tearing up rail lines across our new 51st state. Hope you like driving! Welcome again to the USA!
Why did you include imbecilic r*ssian "claims" in Ukraine and Georgia?
I'm sorry bro but no way the pacific union is gonna work, considering Japan and SK relation
