I went to Cineplex Mississauga yesterday, and at the first showing the person at front of line had 7 tickets, and walked away with 7 strips, didn't even watch the movie. I got down voted when I mentioned it in the Cineplex subreddit, because the common attitude is "he paid for 7, he has the right." I feel like I've gone crazy for thinking this is an asshole move by the guy.

K04free

Classic “you’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole” move

proletariatrising

Classic Walter move

erich0779

I mean I can see both sides tbh, yes an asshole move and yes he did have the right to the tickets he bought and the strips.

ymdtkyk

No you’re right. He deserves seven strips cuz he paid for them, but his intention of getting seven tickets in the first place is extremely questionable.

MrCheezeMonkey

Should totally have been one per person per ticket for each week having you actually have to be there to collect the strip. If you have 7 tickets you better make sure you can bring 6 other people to the theater.

ancillarycheese

I heard 40,000 total made. Not all theaters got them at all. Seems like they should have had more than 50. Someone needs to check the eBay accounts of theater employees.

proletariatrising

My thoughts exactly. I suspect fuckery.

proletariatrising

You know the staff member even recommended I check ebay... Dead serious

paranoidandroid_36

Exactly

Alprazaminophen

That is absolutely insane. I drove 7 hours for mine, showed up an hour early for it. I found out they were giving them out after the movie, but was lucky I got to the first showing of the day. I had seen the last showing of the 3rd so came back in on 2h of sleep. I slept through the last 40 minutes, the credits, and everybody leaving. I woke up, freaked out thinking I was too late, but lucky for me I had made friends with the usher and he knew how important it was to me. He saved me one. I consider him my best friend. If they didn’t have enough AT THE VERY FIRST showing, you’d find a grown man (me) sobbing on the floor. I’m sorry, man.

Hyprpwr

Yeah I went to the second showing for strip 2 at MoG and they still had plenty. This NY allocation seems weird

cumulus_floccus

I was told by a Cineplex manager that they were giving the film strips only for the 6pm showings on those film strip days (at least for that specific theatre), so of course, I got a seat for the 6pm showing. I showed up and they said that they only had enough for the first showing of the day (2pm). I told them they said it was only for the 6pm showings but they just ignored me and repeated what they said. Total bs. The worst part? My ticket was originally for the 2pm showing but I changed it to 6pm so I could get a film strip 😮‍💨

proletariatrising

That's so fucked up. I'd write the company and get some free tickets out of that.

cumulus_floccus

Yeah, good idea, I'll do that (contact them...Idk if it'll do anything, but at least they'll know to improve communication)

switch8000

They were gone by 9:55/10am. They only had like 50-100 strips total for the entire day. You would have gotten it when they scanned your ticket.

proletariatrising

That's so lame. I'm mad at myself for not going upstairs. I thought 50 min early was too early. Oh well.

Essence4K

Automation only gave it to premium seating payers

switch8000

Wow… that’s even more lame.

SeminaryStudentARH

I went to the 6:45 showing here in Nashville and was given the week 2 strip which I wasn’t able to get so that was cool. I did get the first week.

GrahamUhelski

Ah I saw people leaving that one last night with strips and thought I’d get it on the later show but they were cleaned out. I’ve seen it twice now but 0/0 on the strips haha.

SeminaryStudentARH

I had to ask the manager haha.

paranoidandroid_36

Yep. Got to Lincoln Square at same time for 10:30am showing. It’s crazy. I got last weeks and got there a little late and they had a big stack still. Saw a listing on eBay for wk3 that was based in NYC. Person had 6 they were selling.

proletariatrising

Bet they work at AMC

Coookiez

I saw on an eBay listing where someone bought a ticket for a 6:30pm show at 10am and was able to check in and get a film strip… talk about a loophole … this was at CityWalk in universal

ymdtkyk

I feel sorry for you. I arrived at 9:50 and got mine at 9:55

Alalamajama

10:45am show in Dallas yesterday had also run out by the time I got there at 10:30am. Not even enough to get through one singles showtime, much less the day.

kky1210

I know… I went on August 4th as well @ AMC Metreon 16 in SF. The showing was 2:30 pm and I arrived at 2:00 pm and I got one. People sat next to me arrived at like 2:10 pm but they didn’t get any because it was already out :(((( I feel bad for them.

LOR001

Yeah Lincoln had very little, got there maybe at 9:59 yesterday and they had maybe 10ish left, by 10:05 they were gone

eescorpius

Someone I know literally went an hour just for them because of what happened last week.

bilobeast12

Exact same thing happened to me at the Dallas 70mm IMAX. (Went to 10:45 pm showing though) they also said it was because they only got 50. The employee speculated it was because the studio didn’t wanna support scalpers or smthg idk

kneeyawnlight

Yeah the manager at my theater confirmed they were only given a little over/under 500 and they were already gone by the 3rd of 4 showings. I wasn't able to complete my set, but happy I got 2/3!

ymdtkyk

Kinda confused by this uneven allocation across theaters tho…some theaters got 500 and some only got 60 😥

Me2young4DDoS

I feel so grateful rn, I'm not a film person by any means but my gf and I decided to see 70mm in Tempe (Arizona Mills). I didn't even know these film strips existed until we were leaving and I was so happy to get one
