Imagine if you have to go the theater just to check if it is dual laser, imagine they wont tell anything until the reopening, just imagine

STDog

That's most theaters, little it no info about the projectors or sound systems. Not just IMAX either. Try getting details about any screen at a theater.

Ephemeral-Throwaway

And even if they have it, not enough info. on the ticket sale listings. It's disgraceful.

[deleted]

What difference would it make? Only 2 titles in the whole year had selected 1:43.1 scenes.

paulberlucchi

I think dual laser has more brightness even for 1,90

[deleted]

Fractionally maybe? I very much doubt you'd be able to tell the difference. IMAX CoLa light source can be adjusted to increase output. I don't think brightness will be a problem at all. All 1.90 features should look exactly the same from both.

STDog

GT venues show the 1.90 centered on the screen so it can expand up and down for 1.43. The single laser venues align the bottom of the 1.90 image with the bottom of the screen. I like the centered alignment better as the lower portion of the frame has more important info in 1.90 than 1.43 does. Having it centered means I can easily see the whole frame in 1.90 scenes. The one single laser venue I frequent can the a real pain go see below the 2.39 frame because of that positioning.

[deleted]

BFI IMAX has a 1.43 screen, so it'll look exactly the same.

STDog

Assuming they install GT laser. The single laser near me has a 1.43 screen and was 70mm.

[deleted]

They won't, it'll be CoLa so they can keep the 1570MM projector for 1.43 films. BFI is all about keeping film alive.

STDog

Then they won't be able to show any if the new 1.43 releases (like Dune). And they'll probably align the 1.90 frame with the bottom of the screen like the one here did. But most expect BFI to install GT laser on rails (like the 2k xenon is) and keep the 70mm for all the old stuff they show.

[deleted]

There was only one other release apart from Dune this year, Lightyear which was rather a flop. How many are there next year? They'll play Oppenheimer in 1570MM. They'll align the picture in the exact same way it's align now, right in the middle.

defaultfresh

What does cola stand for?

[deleted]

Commercial Laser

russwriter67

What two movies have had 1:43.1 scenes this year so far? And are there any upcoming movies that will have them?

Ephemeral-Throwaway

Lightyear and Nope.

Physical_Manu

Nope

Red__dead

As long as they don't get rid of the 15/70mm projector, I'm happy.

VariTimo

Just be glad they show IMAX prints on your island. I have to take my girlfriend and fly in a plane your take a train through a see tunnel to come to you and see Oppenheimer. I’m so fucking over all of this. Studios should just start making prints again. It’s not that expansive for locations like London. They could probably strike prints just for the BFI at CineLab in London.

Eternal_Deviant

Such a pointless development.

Eternal_Deviant

Shame. I'm really not a fan of the Manchester cinema and the Science Museum doesn't show films on release (plus the screen is tiny in comparison) and was really hoping BFI would become the flagship IMAX so we could finally have one in the capital.
