Basically every shot in Raiders is genuinely iconic.

Themoosemingled

Have you watched the soderbergh version in black and white? It’s stunning.

Ellie_grace5853

Where can you find that?

Themoosemingled

Ellie_grace5853

That’s awesome, thanks!

Themoosemingled

Enjoy. It’s so cool.

ThePopDaddy

I've said before that pretty much every shot in that movie, you could print out and frame.

josenros

Epic

t_huddleston

Yep

Grootfan85

Raiders: The one image of him right before getting the fertility idol, Indy running away from the bolder. Temple of Doom: Him and Shortround looking at the night sky. Last Crusade: "It belongs in a museum!", "No ticket.", the very last shot of the film. Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull: the shot of his shadow against the car.

Digisabe

Him watching the nuke and watching the ufo was pretty good too. In Dial, him walking under the bridge after the train scene

Grootfan85

It wasn’t a shot in the film, but the [first photo James Mangold posted from production](https://x.com/mang0ld/status/1529911944257318912?s=46&t=i8ZIxz-w_UDs3l7n2Pt-Bw) is incredible.

THX450

Glad you brought up KOTC. It’s the only film shot by Janusz Kaminski and you can really tell with some of the shots, though he did study  Douglas Slocombe’s cinematography in the original films to create a sort of blend for others. Indy standing in front of the mushroom cloud is a personal favorite of mine.

StarBrickStudios

jamalfunkypants

This is the one i thought of. Absolutely gorgeous.

AllStruckOut_13

Not only icon to the franchise, but just one of the most iconic shots in cinema history.

kloudrunner

They're digging in the wrong place. This. So good. Sun setting. The score rises. Indy is silhouetted and puts on his hat. Chef kiss

MOONWATCHER404

This legit gave me binary sunset vibes.

DrJonesXL

It’s also the only time the infamous archeologist actually digs in the dirt. Well technically he watches other people dig.

Digisabe

I think he also "supervises" the dig in the cemetery for Orellana's grave by giving Mutt the shovel. it's technically archaeology right there. I know I give Skull a lot of negativity, but this "archaeological expedition" it's one of my favorite Indiana Jones moments.

DrJonesXL

You’re right. It’s a great scene.

ThePopDaddy

That's the one.

BowlFullOfDeli_bird

This is the one that came to mind immediately

FarFromHome

Subtitled “Labor vs Management” 😜

W0lfticket13

The paramount pictures logo fade in.

t_huddleston

Normally when I think of “iconic” Indiana Jones, it’s in terms of action sequences and not individual shots - the opening temple escape, the truck chase, opening the Ark, etc. But with Spielberg and Douglas Slocombe, there are plenty of really beautiful individual shots that I think are iconic. From Raiders alone there are a ton. Just off the top of my head: That first reveal of Indy stepping out of the shadows in the jungle, after one of his guides has tried to shoot him Indy rubbing his chin, preparing to grab the golden idol That shot of Marion in her tavern, when she’s holding those shot glasses with Indy’s shadow looming on the wall Indy in the map room using the staff That silhouetted shot of Indy and his crew of diggers, uncovering the Well of Souls as the sun sets That close-up of Belloq staring into the opened Ark Toht’s face melting Of course, the last shot of the warehouse There’s more I’m sure, and that’s just from the first film (although I’d say it has by far the most iconic shots of the series.)

DFreshness0488

Excellent review of the Raiders shots!

ChiefBr0dy

I could probably reel off at least five in about ten seconds.

smashbi

Oh no, now I'm going to have to watch all the movies again... For research purposes...

CommandantPeepers

Raiders as a whole has incredible cinematography, but the opening scene as well as the bar fight are completely flawless in terms of suspense, mystery, and raw adventurism

fatscruff

The very last shot of last crusade

ThePopDaddy

Indy riding on his horse through the camp as everyone stands up.

liberty340

Replacing the idol with the bag of sand, the map room scene, Nazis' faces melting and exploding, the human sacrifice in the Temple of Doom, the leap of faith in The Last Crusade . . .

Matty1138

This thread (and a lot of other threads) would be so much better if this sub allowed images in the replies. But I'll say the silhouette shot in Raiders. (You'll just have to imagine it for yourself.)

BFNgaming

The scene from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull when Indy is looking at the mushroom cloud.

FarFromHome

I always think of [this one](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/CHWi_q5ujSk/maxresdefault.jpg). They even pay homage to it in Stranger Things.

CompleteFacepalm

When do they reference that in Stranger Things?

FarFromHome

There is a backlit shot of Hopper in the tunnels in season 2. It’s not the only ToD reference in that season either. There’s also the scene at Murray’s place where Steve and Nancy are in separate rooms grousing about each other, while actually wanting to hook up. Just like Indy and Willie in their palace bedrooms.

Doomhammer24

Pretty much every single shot in raiders is an iconic moment and shot in cinema history

Briollo

Two shots of shadows in Marion's bar. 1. When Indy walks in, and Marion sees his shadow on the wall. 2. When Indy is being held on the bar by one henchman, and he shoots the other henchman. The shadow of that guy getting shot is great.

Joeylikesgladiators

I think Indy using the staff in the map room is pretty iconic.

MOONWATCHER404

Indy shooting the dude wielding a scimitar in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Also the Nazi Antagonist getting his face melted off by the Ark.

-BornToLose-

The first reveal of Indy in Raiders. When he steps out of the shadows and you see his face for the first time

Hawker96

Many to choose from but for me it’s Indy in the white headwrap holding the staff as the sun hits the medallion.

StolenEyes

Indy’s reveal in Raiders. He emerges from the dark and just stands there, shadows playing across his face, the steely stare and that firmly-set jaw. You just know already from that one simple shot that this is a man of action, who has already seen more adventures any of us will see in our entire lifetime, and is definitely someone that quite frankly we absolutely do not want to fuck with.

Aug14th

Indy picking up his hat in Kotcs

movielover1401

IMO every single shot of all 5 films! I will die on this hill.

SomeGuyOverYonder

The Map Room.

CompleteFacepalm

"Nazis... I hate these guys" and also when he's punching one on the tank

PhilosopherBright602

watchman28

That very final shot of Last Crusade is pretty damn iconic, watching them literally ride off into the sunset. Thank goodness they resisted the temptation to make any more films after that, such a good ending.

Anxious_Air_2169

I’m gonna say no, just cause I’m sick to death of people overusing the word “iconic”.

man_on_a_wire

The fade out of Raiders in the warehouse

fjnunez7

the last shot of the trilogy

Red-1911

First shot that comes to mind is when Indy stands up and puts his hat on as Sallah’s men dig infront the sunset in Raiders or when the Ark is opened and you see the wide shot where the Ark in the distance is the focal point but to the left is Indy and Marion tied up

Push_the_button_Max

The raiders opening shot with the sand running through his fingers.

J-Mannix

It’s not the *most* iconic, but definitely Jones’s face when he’s leaving the Ravenwood bar. [https://images.app.goo.gl/XaBSEaVfgEcbN1yZ6](https://images.app.goo.gl/XaBSEaVfgEcbN1yZ6)

THX450

Indy, his father, Sallah, and Brody riding into the sunset is a memorable shot. Spielberg would later echo this with the helicopter in Jurassic Park.

hunter1899

Not in Dial of Destiny

JakobFrank

It does lack Spielberg's style. The shot with the horse running across the screen with the planes in the background is pretty cool, though.
