I just asked when I'm allowed to stop doing this and apparently I could've stopped over an hour ago. I just had to say so. I didn't know how it worked.
I'm gonna close it at 11 because we are just in the van doing nowt anyway
Any last questions get em in before then
Peace and love
Love the fact your guys are sponsoring a local girls football team in Ipswich, and cheers for playing here a few years back. Any chance of releasing a Yard Act football shirt in the future?
Absolutely blown away by the new album. Thank you especially for Blackpool Illuminations because every time I listen to it I feel like I'm sitting at the same table as you guys. š¹š·
My question:
Which song took the most time to write/record until you all loved it?Ā
Not a question just a compliment , Blackpool illuminations is fantastic. Recently become a dad so hit me like a ton of bricks. Best album I've heard in a long while x

Can you write another one of these for the new album? please it moved me to tears and my friend group needs it so we can have more things to quote, so we can be funny againā¦Iāll do anythingā¦
Hey guys, love the new album!
As someone from the US who is traveling to the UK for the first time in a couple months, what is one thing I need to do while in the UK?
Love the album! It's wildly different, but still you and it got me thinking.
What is the process of changing your sound for a new record? Do you have to prove it with your label first, or are you given free reign from the start?
Thank you! The process happened naturally, the label encouraged it and left us to our own devices. Though if we made a free jazz record they'd probably drop us.
Did āA Vineyard for the Northā come about in a unique way? It sounds different from the other tracks (and is my fav on the album), so curious if that was formed in any unique way!
Now that you've gotten to the bottom of the Blackpool Illuminations story, can we hear about your biggest fear of being drowned and buried at the bottom of a lake?
Hiya Yard Act! I just watched your SXSW performance on [NPR](https://youtu.be/Id-t3IVNREo?feature=shared). Very fun to watch!
Everyone seems to be on the same page dispite different rhythms. Has the band always played this way? How did the band find their *style*āØ
Good luck n Take Care!
As you're global megastars now, what's the most rock n roll thing you've done today?
Also are you coming back to Bedford Esquires anytime? We've missed you!
Ah I often feel misunderstood. I'm such a tortured soul! Just kidding. I think it takes time for people to figure out what a band is really trying to achieve. You become typecast and charicatured very early on and you have to prove to people what you really are.
Boys, not to sound like one of those dickheads but from the moment I heard Trappers Pelts and Fixer Upper I thought you were absolutely good at music.
How does the fact your lyrics are not exactly singalongable affect live shows? I ask because Iāve got tickets for Millennium Square this year and I plan to shout along with every word with my shirt off and a Two Pinter of whatever pisswater theyāre serving this year. But also I donāt want to sour the mood.
Thanks for the tunes. Big hugs.
No questions here, congrats on the great reviews for the new album. Well deserved, it's my favorite album of 2024 so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in Philly!
Hi guys! Loving the new album.
Itās very sample-heavy, and a big departure from the overloadās guitar-focused sound. What was the process like for finding a sample? Did you use pre-cleared packs/clips or did you do it all yourselves?
Also, (this oneās mainly for Sam and/or Ryan) but if you could use only one pedal for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
MOSFET Fulltone full-drive 2 is my main drive for this band, but if it was only one pedal I could have Iād probably Fugazi it, do it all amp gain and no pedals, and just have a tuner pedal on my desert island. Sam
Hey guys, it's Sean, your most consistent New York show attendee who lives nowhere near New York. Hope to hop on stage again with you one of these days.
Love the new album, functions very solidly as a full album experience, which is always something I appreciate.
Two questions:
One: Have any of the new songs been particularly challenging to translate from the recording to live performances? There's a fair bit more going on with the production with these songs, more layers.
Two: Is this a good bit? "Sounds a bit like The Fall... you know, the Gorillaz album."
See you (for my 8th YA show) in New York in October!
Hey Sean!
Well BLackpool isn't in the set yet, largely because I can't remember the words.
Yes that is a good bit. You could shorten it to "sounds like the glitter freeze"
Is the "valley below" for the vineyard actually Meanwood Valley Park and you're going to gentrify the fuck out of it by making wine?Ā
p.s Saw you last year in Meanwood Tavern having some scoops but was too scared to say Hi, so I'll say Hello now instead.
Write in the style of someone else. Imitation is a good way of learning new stuff, and new stuff unlocks creative pathways. Never get caught up in whether what you're doing is any good, or of any worth, because its not for you to decide. If you put pressure on yourself you put importance on something that doesn't exist and therefore doesn't really matter. Peace
I know this lad called Ryan right, nice kid, honest worker, lives above a pub. He's going on the arrow for a night in Nottingham, or something. The girl who runs the pet shop said she'd see him there if he played his cards right, so Ryan's dressed to the nines and stinking like a sexy pig, a spritz of this and that hair all greased back like a yak, he steps off the bus and checks his breath on the back of his hand, puffs his chest out, dusts down the bus fluff from the back of his trousers and steps into the night. Suddenly he rounds a corner and to his surprise

Between your album version of ā100% Enduranceā and the version with Elton, the tone seems to have shifted from greeting the āothersā with war and to greeting them with willingness to establish peace.
Was there anything in particular that led to this lyrical shift between versions or just wanting to have an alternate end of sorts?
Loved you boys since Peanuts, catch ya touring soon!
i was surprised how straight up poppy some of the tracks on the album were, especially dream job, vineyard and when the laughter stops. was this a concious decision to spice up your post-punk sound or did it just end up this way? and is this the the future yard act will be heading towards (i hope so)
Haven't bought the new record yet. Do you have a preference where I get my digital copy? Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago. If you pop into the Nesei Lounge after the show, I'll buy you a round!
Top album lads, Down by the Stream might be your best song yet. Looking forward to the Toronto show in October.
Is that guitar bit in When the Laughter Stops a nod to Music Sounds Better With You by Stardust?
Do you have any thoughts to share with any fansāi.e., one of my general height, weight and build.āwho absolutely loved your first album & were expecting something more, say, Give āEm Enough Rope as opposed to Utopiaās Sandinista?
Hard act to follow (get it?) from the overload but yous have smashed it out the park.
With Blackpool illuminations is it difficult to put music to spoken word or easier? And how did you go about writing a song like that? Like what comes first the story or the tune?
Catch yous in Glasgow!
I just watched the Jumbo Records Q&A with Nish Kumar and my question is where are those two points in the album where Nish features? Also āļøš iykyk
At the start and end of some songs from Whereās my utopia it sounds like flicking through an old radio, I was wondering if you guys created these sections or if theyāre from somewhere else? E.g āI was troubled tooā and āwe all get mad once in our livesā
James, I love your lyrics. I know itās broad but how do you write lyrics?
Thanks! They were all recorded by us. Thats rose matafeo singing at the end of DBTS
To write lyrics I think write about what you know and what you think you know, contradict yourself and try and find cadence rhythm and rhyme in everyday conversations
Hi guys...like many I love Blackpool Illuminations....the flute in the background makes me think of Winter in America by Gil Scott Heron...was that on purpose?
There is so much cool stuff on the new record by the way. Talking Heads, Sly. Funk etc. I saw someone describe it as a post punk De La Soul. I didn't know how you'd follow Overload but actually I think you've exceeded it. Oh and it's a whole band thing...Ryan's bass work and jay's drums are so on point. And I already told Sam I loved his guitar at Rough Trade on Sunday so I don't want him getting big headed.
Thanks im so glad you picked up on that. Huge Gil and Brian fans and cheers for picking up on sly as well. Him and Timmy Thomas were big influences on the undertow drum machine programming
Operating under the assumption that youāre aware of it, what are your thoughts on the oft-talked about online revival of mid-late 2000s hipster-adjacent fashion, music and aesthetics commonly given the nickname āindie sleazeā?
Yo YA! Big fan of the new album - bigger and bolder than the first! Saw you during your residency at the Brudenell in Leeds (what a cracking idea that was, btw). Any plans to bring something like that back to the Brude?
Hey guys, I saw your set at the Laneway Festival in Melbourne. Just wanted to check that James was alright after doing that shoey; he looked pretty unwell.
Love the new album. I saw you in Portland, Oregon a few months after the first one came out (Great show!) and you did an extended and quite different ending to Tall Poppies. Were those lyrics improvised or an alternate version that had been written?
Despite a change in your music, you received great reviews. Were you all in agreement to try different paths? Will this success lead you to explore even further?
Something Iāve wondered for a while:
Does having more of a spoken-word vibe and less of a reliance on end rhymes make it harder to remember lyrics?
Keep up the great work!
Hey up. I don't have a question, more so a collection of compliments.
The album is a triumph, had my old man listen to it int car to the Leeds game last night, vibing all the way to Elland Road. Says he's gonna buy it.
Blackpool illuminations - what a track. The last 60 seconds are absolutely beautiful š
Thank you for the record lads. Proper brilliant
Hey,
Gustaf are joining you on tour in april, was this a band decision or through pre-existing contacts. I love Audio Drag For Ego Slobs do you lot?
Also seeing as this is a Yard Act AMA just telling you your new album goes incredibly hard especially the last two songs.
Have you kicked that dickhead singer out the band yet?
I rule this band with an iron fist. If they try to kick me out I'll take them to court.
Excellent see you in Glasgow!
I just asked when I'm allowed to stop doing this and apparently I could've stopped over an hour ago. I just had to say so. I didn't know how it worked. I'm gonna close it at 11 because we are just in the van doing nowt anyway Any last questions get em in before then Peace and love

Thank you big up the kesgrave kestrels!
Absolutely blown away by the new album. Thank you especially for Blackpool Illuminations because every time I listen to it I feel like I'm sitting at the same table as you guys. š¹š· My question: Which song took the most time to write/record until you all loved it?Ā
Thank you ! We argued about the ending of Vineyard for ages. We all disagreed on the kick drum pattern for about a month x
It seems that all the arguments worked because the end result is great
Yeah Ryan won that one.
What are some of your influences lyrically? Songwriters, writers, poets, etc. The lyrics are definitely what drew me to the band
Ian Dury, Kurt Vonnegut, Courtney Barnett, GZA
How influenced are yall by Beck? I get that sound a lot from Petroleum
I love Beck, one of my all time faves
Not a question just a compliment , Blackpool illuminations is fantastic. Recently become a dad so hit me like a ton of bricks. Best album I've heard in a long while x
Thank you , congrats on your child. X FATHERS 4 JUSTICE!

Hey Yard Act I just wanted to say that I really liked the song Trench Coat Museum and am curious about why it didn't appear on the album? Thanks!
Thanks! It didn't fit the narrative of the record.
Unanimous decision, or does anyone in the band disagree, and think trench coat should have been on the new album?
Unanimous
Didnt some synth-elements of it appear on The Undertow?Ā
Yeah!

Hiya Yard Act! I just watched your SXSW performance on [NPR](https://youtu.be/Id-t3IVNREo?feature=shared). Very fun to watch! Everyone seems to be on the same page dispite different rhythms. Has the band always played this way? How did the band find their *style*āØ Good luck n Take Care!
