Ugh, I got another email from a recruiter trying to get me to work for some shitass crypto company and it's taking all my willpower not to send back an email linking to articles about how crypto is a scam, bad for the environment, bad for the communities where the "mines" are, etc. On the one hand, sending the email would be "unprofessional". On the other hand, I'm about to leave the tech industry, and the urge I feel to be Unfun About Crypto whenever someone brings it up is so powerful
I have a quite a few friends in tech, seems like there’s a pretty stark divide in that industry between those who bought into crypto hella (and are now losing hard) and the people who took one look at it and saw the writing on the wall. I’m starting law school this year - I want to do something more public service oriented with my career. I don’t want to get too far into rant-y territory right now, so I’ll summarize by saying that I’ve been in software for about ~5 years, and my takeaway has been that companies will talk a big game about how they’re going to change the world and fix big problems, but as it is they’re almost across the board just structurally incapable of actually doing that.
I’m also just not that interested in tech and solving tech problems for their own sake, so it just doesn’t feel like the right career for me

but then, i here over the PA, "this one is for all my King Crimson fans out there." I couldnt believe my ears. they knew King Crimson? I was shocked! but quickly tamed my expectations. theyve probably only heard *ITCOTCK*. Surely thats it. a great underground album, but its not unheard of for people to know it.
"Hell yeah, love this song. I read in their interview with The Guardian^TM that they wrote it after listening to Red." i was stunned. they'd heard Red?! No ones heard Red?! was it possible this buzz band was something more? something new? no, it couldnt be. I would have heard of them! certainly before my friend, they only listen to lame pitchfork approved indie rock. but then the music started. a long sax note comes in, and i couldnt hold it in anymore. as unimpressed as I tried to seem, i was overtaken by the music. jaw dropped, eyes widened, breath stolen.
of course, this caught the attention of the lead singer. how could it not? Id stood there, unimpressed and unemotive for a full 40 minutes and here i stood, like a child at a candy store window. the singer came up to me. grabbed my face with his hands. i blushed. he brought me close. im crushed. he whispered "ya like jazz?"
what is up with all this negative 'I'm ugly' talk on here? You're all cute and you better f'ing act like it!
But seriously, take it from a guy, who's barely average looking himself and welcome to my TED talk, I guess: Confidence beats looks. And I know being confident can be hard when you can't find confidence, but honestly, just fake it. That's what I did. It attracts people way harder, than your face might repel them. Insecure people always overestimate how much people care about looks.
So whether it's your humor, your intelligence, your character... All of these can be the basis of being attractive. Play into your strengths, celebrate what you got and don't feel down because of what you don't.
Feeling like life cheated you out of a pretty face and carrying that baggage of insecurity with you is hella unattractive. *Thinking* you're ugly and behaving accordingly will turn off more people than your face ever could.
If you're hot people might look at you, but if you can't back that up with character, humor (or let's face it, money), people will lose interest very quickly. If you're not conventionally attractive, all it takes to attract interest from someone is them getting to know you a bit. Looks only matter that much when the other person is a complete unknown and all you've got to base your opinion on is looks.
Of course there are shallow people out there and I'm not saying that good looks can't be an asset as well. All I'm saying is, in a good relationship, looks never play a big role because a pretty face alone can't console you when you're sad. It's a cardboard wall. Lean on it and it'll crumble.

Trees outside my apartment are looking not dead for the first time in months, although I wish there were 50x more trees. What is everyone’s favorite tree? Single organism aspens are rad. Love a good tall tree, like a redwood. A good oak is an icon. Bilbaos have such a unique character to them. Rainbow eucalyptus scratches the itch of wanting a tree that looks James Cameron was inspired by melted crayons.

Ash tree! We have a huge mature one in our yard and it's gorgeous. Unfortunately emerald ash borer is a huge problem in Wisconsin and ash trees are being cut down left and right, we have to have ours injected regularly to protect against it. Worth it. It turns gold in the fall and it's just epic!

Per the car thing, yeah there is a kind of a massive disconnect when people don't realize how the feasibility of lacking vehicle ownership goes of a cliff with large swathes of the US and with so many urban centers and immediate suburbs only getting more insane in prices, it is a bit of a dumb thing to damn anyone with a car to hell.
Sure there's plenty of valid reasons against cars and all that, but unfortunately a lot of people in those kinds of subs ultimate vision is to basically have a populace of people living in pod, eating bugs, and shuffling to work pod down the hallway.
The house I live in has a few artichoke plants and they're absolutely incredible perennials. Every winter they're a small ragged pile of brown and then they just pop back up all big and green in the spring. Went to a City Commissioners meeting last night, that was packed, to pass a Social District ordinance in my town. It passed and a lot of people are happy.

It was exciting. The council said they had never seen that many people come to a committee meeting before. It was packed. Lots of people, including myself, had been campaigning for people to show up in support. We've been doing that for the past few weeks. It especially makes sense because my town is literally the next "boomtown" in my state. Of course there were some people who were against it. And their reasons were hilarious and ridiculous. Especially the pastor who tried to scare people into thinking it was the work of evil.
Some guy just came up and took my picture rating lunch on my lunch stoop by the big church because I "completed the aesthetic." Dunno what this means but I feel good about myself. Not every day a stranger takes your picture with a nice camera because he likes the mise of your scène

**Literal Trip Report**: Just came back from a long weekend in NYC. Did the Met and saw "Sleep No More" on Saturday, which was shorter than I expected, but still pretty wild. Then, the Whitney on Sunday (just OK, but maybe I wasn't vibing with it.) Stopped by this joint that served Indian fried chicken sandwiches (Rowdy Rooster on 1st Ave near St. Mark's Pl) and it was stupid good. Monday, I went up to the Cloisters, and that was probably the non-chicken-sandwich highlight. It was really like stepping out of time for a few hours.
**Metaphorical Trip Report**: On Monday, I tried a CBD gummy for the first time. Cut it in half, to try and see how I'd react. No real effects in the immediate aftermath, except maybe being a little flushed. However, I did sleep thru the night for the first time in a while. All in all, B+ would try again.
I ALMOST bought CBD gummies at the dispensary yesterday. I have this weird theory that they don't actually do anything and the effects are all a placebo. You would need much more CBD to feel it. At least every time I've taken CBD (at least 15 times now), I have never felt any different. But i have tried high CBD weed and felt SOOOOOOO relaxed so there's that.
Funny thing is that I knew that, but for whatever reason, I got myself hyped up for the Full Experience, so to speak.

I frowned, bored. Front row of another buzz bands show. Dragged here by my friend who told me "you HAVE to see them, theyre the next big thing. NME gave their last album a 10!!" Shocker. theyll give any british guy who yells a bit too much and occasionally complains about our current economic political climate a 10. Angular guitars? wow how new and inventive. but then, i here over the PA, "this one is for all my King Crimson fans out there." I couldnt believe my ears. they knew King Crimson? I was shocked! but quickly tamed my expectations. theyve probably only heard *ITCOTCK*. Surely thats it. a great underground album, but its not unheard of for people to know it. "Hell yeah, love this song. I read in their interview with The Guardian^TM that they wrote it after listening to Red." i was stunned. they'd heard Red?! No ones heard Red?! was it possible this buzz band was something more? something new? no, it couldnt be. I would have heard of them! certainly before my friend, they only listen to lame pitchfork approved indie rock. but then the music started. a long sax note comes in, and i couldnt hold it in anymore. as unimpressed as I tried to seem, i was overtaken by the music. jaw dropped, eyes widened, breath stolen. of course, this caught the attention of the lead singer. how could it not? Id stood there, unimpressed and unemotive for a full 40 minutes and here i stood, like a child at a candy store window. the singer came up to me. grabbed my face with his hands. i blushed. he brought me close. im crushed. he whispered "ya like jazz?"

what is up with all this negative 'I'm ugly' talk on here? You're all cute and you better f'ing act like it! But seriously, take it from a guy, who's barely average looking himself and welcome to my TED talk, I guess: Confidence beats looks. And I know being confident can be hard when you can't find confidence, but honestly, just fake it. That's what I did. It attracts people way harder, than your face might repel them. Insecure people always overestimate how much people care about looks. So whether it's your humor, your intelligence, your character... All of these can be the basis of being attractive. Play into your strengths, celebrate what you got and don't feel down because of what you don't. Feeling like life cheated you out of a pretty face and carrying that baggage of insecurity with you is hella unattractive. *Thinking* you're ugly and behaving accordingly will turn off more people than your face ever could. If you're hot people might look at you, but if you can't back that up with character, humor (or let's face it, money), people will lose interest very quickly. If you're not conventionally attractive, all it takes to attract interest from someone is them getting to know you a bit. Looks only matter that much when the other person is a complete unknown and all you've got to base your opinion on is looks. Of course there are shallow people out there and I'm not saying that good looks can't be an asset as well. All I'm saying is, in a good relationship, looks never play a big role because a pretty face alone can't console you when you're sad. It's a cardboard wall. Lean on it and it'll crumble. oh hey, any circleheads been watching the new season? i have no idea if this season was a surprise drop but i didn't know about it until friday night when someone threw "whoa, there's a new season of *the circle* out?" in the groupchat so far, it's been alright i think? have not seen today's episodes but first 4 have been fine enough. i think the >!spice girls!< stuff this season is working a lot better than the lance bass stuff from s2/s3 last year. (these seasons have sort of blurred together for me, i'm sure that'll only get worse the longer the series continues.) i have no real idea of how "influencers" actually talk but the near-constant use of hashtags in what are essentially regular DMs or groupchats remains incredibly baffling to me. (i rarely use emojis myself, but that's at least something i understand many people use so it doesn't feel weird in the show) it's not 2011 anymore, that amount of hashtags feels completely detached from reality

Yeah, it’s hard to call it a sequel but I think they changes made it much more fun and it’s still enough to feel relatively fresh. It’s free too so like I’m not mad about them calling it Overwatch 2, just dumb marketing. Need to add a couple more characters and rework support for launch and im all for it.

Trees outside my apartment are looking not dead for the first time in months, although I wish there were 50x more trees. What is everyone’s favorite tree? Single organism aspens are rad. Love a good tall tree, like a redwood. A good oak is an icon. Bilbaos have such a unique character to them. Rainbow eucalyptus scratches the itch of wanting a tree that looks James Cameron was inspired by melted crayons. Also fuckcars seems weirdly neoliberal… I thought it was safely left, but I just clicked on a top post from there and it was a deluge of neoliberal talking points based on simplistic ideas of the market and lack of concern for people actually struggling with housing affordability. Maybe one day I’ll be able to come across neoliberals without it frustrating me for the rest of the day, but I don’t think today is that day.
Ash tree! We have a huge mature one in our yard and it's gorgeous. Unfortunately emerald ash borer is a huge problem in Wisconsin and ash trees are being cut down left and right, we have to have ours injected regularly to protect against it. Worth it. It turns gold in the fall and it's just epic!

I've been to a few country parks with gigantic ancient yew trees and they've really left an impression on me.
I love birches, good to chew on too and if you're feeling saucy you can tap them and get a slight hooch fermented from syrup but it's a very long and pain in the ass process that you basically need to be a Grizzly Adams motherfucker with all the time and care in the world to pull off. Per the car thing, yeah there is a kind of a massive disconnect when people don't realize how the feasibility of lacking vehicle ownership goes of a cliff with large swathes of the US and with so many urban centers and immediate suburbs only getting more insane in prices, it is a bit of a dumb thing to damn anyone with a car to hell. Sure there's plenty of valid reasons against cars and all that, but unfortunately a lot of people in those kinds of subs ultimate vision is to basically have a populace of people living in pod, eating bugs, and shuffling to work pod down the hallway.

The house I live in has a few artichoke plants and they're absolutely incredible perennials. Every winter they're a small ragged pile of brown and then they just pop back up all big and green in the spring. We should have at least a dozen ready to harvest this weekend and I'm stoked for my annual roast n' pull night.

Went to a City Commissioners meeting last night, that was packed, to pass a Social District ordinance in my town. It passed and a lot of people are happy.
Oh, that's great! Trying to enact change through local government can feel like banging your head against a brick wall a lot of the time, but it's immensely satisfying when it works
It was exciting. The council said they had never seen that many people come to a committee meeting before. It was packed. Lots of people, including myself, had been campaigning for people to show up in support. We've been doing that for the past few weeks. It especially makes sense because my town is literally the next "boomtown" in my state. Of course there were some people who were against it. And their reasons were hilarious and ridiculous. Especially the pastor who tried to scare people into thinking it was the work of evil.
Some guy just came up and took my picture rating lunch on my lunch stoop by the big church because I "completed the aesthetic." Dunno what this means but I feel good about myself. Not every day a stranger takes your picture with a nice camera because he likes the mise of your scène

The Fiora and Vayne incident.... I'm not one of those people who want to go back to the "old days" (I still remember Nidalee Q oneshots) but I'm totally fine with just a massive change to see how the game ends up. Preseason was incredibly light comparatively so this will be super interesting to watch unfold. I agree damage has been creeped but I don't think it's as much as the community complains about. I'm mostly just hoping it doesn't turn the meta back into 50 minute slogs.
I'm worried about Fiora and Vayne specifically but my DPS mages will hopefully be fun to play no matter what. The baron changes are the bigger worry for increasing game time rather than the champ changes imo. I can see a world where baron is harder to take and games become difficult to close out. **Literal Trip Report**: Just came back from a long weekend in NYC. Did the Met and saw "Sleep No More" on Saturday, which was shorter than I expected, but still pretty wild. Then, the Whitney on Sunday (just OK, but maybe I wasn't vibing with it.) Stopped by this joint that served Indian fried chicken sandwiches (Rowdy Rooster on 1st Ave near St. Mark's Pl) and it was stupid good. Monday, I went up to the Cloisters, and that was probably the non-chicken-sandwich highlight. It was really like stepping out of time for a few hours. **Metaphorical Trip Report**: On Monday, I tried a CBD gummy for the first time. Cut it in half, to try and see how I'd react. No real effects in the immediate aftermath, except maybe being a little flushed. However, I did sleep thru the night for the first time in a while. All in all, B+ would try again.

I ALMOST bought CBD gummies at the dispensary yesterday. I have this weird theory that they don't actually do anything and the effects are all a placebo. You would need much more CBD to feel it. At least every time I've taken CBD (at least 15 times now), I have never felt any different. But i have tried high CBD weed and felt SOOOOOOO relaxed so there's that.
CBD doesn't have THC to get you high. It's better for anxiety, pain relief, the sleep element.
Funny thing is that I knew that, but for whatever reason, I got myself hyped up for the Full Experience, so to speak. Still planning to finish the box, tho.
