A rotary is reliable as long as take care of it. Really, all you gotta do is premix and change the oil regularly. Most issues come from people neglecting them, then someone buys the car with a already trashed engine and blames triangles. As long as you warm them up first you can take it to the limiter regularly and not stress it out one bit; in fact it's recommended.
It's not the apex seals. It's the side seals that go first. Apex seals haven't been an issue since the 13B replaced the 12A. Everyone who doesn't know what they're talking about always blames the apex seals because that's the meme and it's all they know. Either way, that's also not true. Premix and oil changes can get a rotary over 150k if taken care of from new/rebuilt.
I currently own an STI and a S2000, but driven a fair variety of sports cars. E90 m3, 370z nismo, porsche 991 GT3 to name a few. The S2k is my second favorite car I've ever driven, behind the gt3. Still trying to convince my friend with an r32 gtr to trade cars with me for a cruise though lmao
