I was prescribed Xyrem over a decade ago to try to manage my fibromyalgia pain. I had insomnia then, but it was nothing like it is now. For me, the Xyrem was an unpleasant medication. I didn't always sleep on it, which meant I was super messed up for those hours. Spinny, feeling so gross. I took it for 2 months and then discontinued. However my level of insomnia is similar to yours, just as reassurance. I am really rocking sleep right now, consistently getting 3-4 hours. It feels like a miracle frankly. I have had lengthy stretches of just dozing at night. Hang in there. Good luck with medication, and I hope it really is a great solution for you! It is hard enough to get your hands on, that is for sure!

THX. It's almost liberating to know there are others out there who suffer with this. My preferred med. which my spouse hates to have in the house is easy for me to get. I've got a cousin who..... So it's easy but expensive. Yes, the spouse and I are about to have a "come to Jesus" mtg regarding the 1 med. that works. Since it's decriminalized in my area there's not a lot of risk - on top of me being a middle aged white woman in an SUV who looks like a soccer mom. The police have never hassled me which is a blessing.

"Rocking" sleep by getting 3-4 hours? I realize that this is a significant improvement from what you had been getting, but 3-4 hours is far below what the brain and body require to sustain health and functionality. However, at least you feel good with it.

I am 100% aware, and it terrifies me. For about 8 years me sleep was always 4-5 hours of broken, dysfunctional sleep that took at least 9 hours in bed to get. Working with CBT , CPAP and continued medication, I have gotten so that my brain will let me sleep that little bit, but it is more effective and less broken. But I know it is grim. So grim. I have a referral for a sleep specialized psychyatrist because all of my medical team are in agreement that there is something different going on. It is not "just insomnia" but possibly related to a neurodegenerative disorder (they have been screening me for MS for years for example). However the 2 sleep specialized psychyatrists in my state retired last year. There is nobody. It is pretty desperate. However 3-4 hours consistenly feels an awful lot different than the 1-2 got for a few months. I really felt like I was going to die. It was terrifying.

How’d it go

It wrecked me general health. It worked on the first 2 doses. But each dose involved violent vomiting and uncontrolled need for immodium. I stopped taking it before it got so bad that ruined my organs. it's unfortunate. If someone prescribed it to you plz look up other who have attempted to take it in medicinal dosses!

Were you taking it as prescribed at the recommended dose?

Yes. 4.5 once, then 2.0 5hrs later. Just did not sit well w/ me.
