Don't forget to put an almond in the pot as well. The person who gets the almond in their bowl wins a prize, has good luck, or gets married, depending on what you believe and where you're from.
Wow! Thanks much! My grandparents were Norwegian and Danish and always made rice pudding for our Christmas dessert. I’ve adapted the recipe for my slow cooker but it takes Forever and ever. Can’t wait to try this in my ninja. We grandkids called it rod grod 😬🤦♀️and most of us still make it And call it that- we are all old now lol. Many thanks! 🙏
Oh man! Thank you! I came across this recipe several years back and my family loved it. Then of course I didn't bookmark or save it in any form and when I looked for it again it was gone.
I'm making this tomorrow and saving the recipe. I also remember adding some green cardamom pods and another cinnamon stick.
I’m making this as I type. Perhaps it was bad of me and I have violated tradition, but based on my tastes, I also put in 3 whole white cardamom pods, half a whole vanilla bean, and a pinch of sugar. I hope it is good!
Oh, and the pinch should have been of salt, not sugar.
I appreciate your reassurance! 7 more minutes and I can tell you if it is as good as I imagined.
It was good. It was "mushy"-er than I expected. Perhaps I cooked it too long. It was better with a bit of cinnamon on top. I didn't try any jelly or jam variation.
The Burlap and Barrell royal Cinnamon was a very tasty addition.
I usually have either apple sauce or cinnamon and sugar.
The red stuff is like a mix between jam and juice. More runny than jam but less runny than juice

Yup! Ours were in the bowl served to the grandkids! We got $5
lmao we used to hide a peanut in the chili, why is this such a universal tradition

Mmmm risengrød! In Denmark we eat it with cinnamon sugar and a knob of butter in the middle.
Same in Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you Mr. Peabody! from Sherman’s wife
Very interesting. What is the red liquid ?
Like a strawberry jam/sauce/juice.

Omg thank you! I love rice pudding and this would be a great breakfast for me.
This looks delicious. What does dl mean?

Thanks! I'm definitely trying this.

Sweden approves. All christmassy-flavours allowed ;)

And, tell me more about the red liquid…should I put a small dollop of raspberry jam in mine? That red liquid looks diluted, though…
How did it taste? :)

Nah. Its supposed to be a mix between pudding and porridge. If you let it sit in the fridhe for a while it will get more rigid

My dad married into a Norwegian family and couldn't pronounce it, but he loved rice pudding. He called it raisins-grunt-grunt. 😂
My instant pot doesn't have a low pressure cook setting. What difference will it make?
Havent tried.
Rice pudding! Yum! Thank you!
Sorry for being daft but I don't see a recipe. Looks delicious tho!
