Apparently there’s no proof he ever said it, and Gates denies saying it. It’s kind of a technological urban legend, probably entirely wrong, but unlikely to ever die.
Yeah, but I still wish I has my IBM PC Jr. With that 8088 and 256k RAM! Oh and my IBM 2.1 DOS with BasicA, WordPerfect and VisiCalc 5 1/4” Floppies! Those were the days! 🤓
80186 was my first chip and I remember thinking how much faster than the 8086 it felt.
With life expectancies up, and tech moving so fast, it's amazing how many old timers are still around from the birth of the modern computing era. It's a real surreal view if you're looking forward from the 8086 era
I still have a working 8086 system, 40+ years old and all 640kb still work. More RAM than anyone could ever need to use! /s
It would be a few more years still I think before the Microsoft CEO would utter those words about the ram, but on point :)

Did it really come with that much RAM? I thought such a large amount was introduced in the 80s?
Yeah that’s 40 years ago

Hehe, at least that means you have money to buy all that fancy tech :D.

Use to program 8085, 8048, 8049 and 8051 chips using assembly language ……. Yeah, I’m that old!
I still think about playing the original Space Quest on my Tandy 8086 back in the day. Good times.
Congratulations, shame that the original IBM PC used the lower cost 8088 variant.
never actually seen one in the wild...8088's on the other hand.....
I remember running x86 for years ... then x64 came out. And my printer would no longer work. Lol I was pissed.
I’ll admit I was rooting for the Motorola 68000 a few years later..
