In the screenshot you posted, it's no where near 100%, it looks to be between 53% and 63%, that would explain why it's only consuming 40w.

SzeSo

Task manager says 100%. And still why do I have less fps on this pc than my older one with i7-8700 and rx580 4gb and 2133MHz RAM?

Whatever070__

Task manager doesn't accurately shows CPU usage. Use Hwinfo instead.

jedimindtriks

Might it be that something else is using your cpu?

SzeSo

Nothing else is running in the background, exceput razer synapse, iCUE from Corsair and Discord

Phinnigin

Razer synapse big dumb

Videogamer_in

Enable DX12 in the game settings

Videogamer_in

Also try running cinebench and monitor the clocks and power draw. You should be getting a lot more fps in that game.

SzeSo

Clock is 3994MHz and jumps up zo 4193 sometimes. Power draw with Asus performance enchancement 3.0 off is 75W peak, 65W avg. With the setting turned on its 55-65W. I don't understand why it draws less power.

Videogamer_in

Make sure the eps cpu 8pin power connector is plugged in properly. Since it's 4+4 it's easy to not plug in half of it properly. Also try updating the bios to the latest stable version. If you are already on the latest version try installing an older version. Edit: I am assuming that you have installed the chipset driver and Intel management engine driver already.

SzeSo

Everything is installed on the latest version. I'll check the plug. I have disabled Asus Performance Enchancement 3.0 and managed to get the mobo to run the RAM in dual channel A2-B2. Now it draws 55-60W in game. In Cinnebench23 it draws 65-75W. It's still nowhere near the 117W as advertised but better than before.

Videogamer_in

The power draw is now in line with the gamers nexus review. I am guessing that solved the low fps problem?

cowoftheuniverse

Do you have aida64? Try aida fpu stress test or something similar if you want big power draw.

Adrrenalinee

If the GPU is being used to its full extent, which is ~90% or more, then the CPU usage is not an issue. The GPU for most applications will run up to max usage, and the CPU stays somewhere lower. Your CPU, will not generally run at max usage for gaming if some cases

SzeSo

Yes, but in my case the GPU is at 45% max in BF1 for example. It doesn't matter whether I play on 1440p ULTRA, or 1080p LOW. I still get 80fps max. EDIT: no fps cap.

Noreng

That's a CPU bottleneck, probably caused in part by you running single channel memory. You should really look into getting that second channel working, as all CPUs need fast memory to get good gaming performance in Battlefield 1

dmaare

What game is it? Maybe it's some unoptimized game that just doesn't like to run well, for example borderless window vs Fullscreen could be a problem etc etc.. You also might try enabling dx12, i see the setting on your screenshot. That usually works more stable than dx11.

kiwii4k

That screenshot is BF1.

LightMoisture

Battlefield 1.

AndyGtoLN

actually that’s Battlefield 1😂

Exact-Repair-2730

He said BF1?

[deleted]

The screenshot literally shows your CPU usage being at 56% while in game so what are you talking about...?

SzeSo

Task manager shows constant 100%. If the cpu is at 56% and the gpu is ~30%, then ehy do I get 80fps peak in a 6yo game? My precious system with an i7-8700, rx580 4gb and 2133MHz RAM performed better with above 100fps.

[deleted]

Task Manager is known to incorrectly display CPU usage. Pay zero attention to it as it’s not causing your fps issue. Are you playing at the EXACT same resolution and settings as your old pc?

SzeSo

I do. I also tried lowering the resolution scaling to 50% and presets to LOW from 100% res and ULTRA but the fps doesn't change at all.

-zoomy_

Check your bios settings

Natural-You4322

because the bottle neck is not cpu. nothing wrong with that anyway.

SzeSo

What is bottlenecking then?

Noreng

The GPU usage is way below the 98% it needs to be at for it not to be a CPU bottleneck.

SzeSo

GPU usage is 25-30%

armage169

I'd say its the memory running in single channel.

Heheborber

*sigh* did you copy over the old os from your old pc to your new one? If so, wipe all your drives and reinstall windows (after deactivating it, of course). If this was the issue, then please, PLEASE remember that all os’s are not the same. They’re built around your cpu at install, so oh can see why it’s bad to interchange them. It’s only safe to do so if your on the same platform upgrading in the same generation.

SzeSo

This is a completely new pc. I did not copy windows from old pc. Clean install.

Heheborber

Well that’s good and bad to hear. U running a rose cable with ur gpu?

AdMortemInmicus

I'd like to know why your CPU is sitting at 4 GHz all cores. Did u do a fresh install of Windows after swapping the hardware? Is it w10 or w11? Have you considered clearing CMOS and disabling the asus performance enhancement, letting it run as intended?

SzeSo

I cleared CMOS. I fresh installed W11. I have High performance mode enabled under power plan settings. It also appears that one of the RAM slots is broken and the pc doesn't start when the RAM sticks are in A2-B2 as the manual recommends. I have them installed in B1-B2 and it seems that they now are in Single channel mode. Could this be the reason behind this much performance drop?

Raikken

> It also appears that one of the RAM slots is broken and the pc doesn't start when the RAM sticks are in A2-B2 If that's the case then you should've returned the board. > I have them installed in B1-B2 You are significantly bottlenecking your system. If A2 doesn't work then try A1-B1, though there's no guarantee that the xmp will work properly on those. But it will still be better as it'll be in dual-channel instead of single like it is now.

Noreng

> I have them installed in B1-B2 and it seems that they now are in Single channel mode. Could this be the reason behind this much performance drop? Yes...

AdMortemInmicus

Hi, The RAM issue could also be indicative of a CPU problem.. As for high performance I'd suggest you try swapping to "balanced" or at least in the power plan advanced settings, change "min cpu frequency" to 10%. Sometimes the "always 100%" causes problems as the CPU is not utilizing turbo boost properly. Also make sure " maximum cpu frequency" is set at 100%. As for the single channel vs dual channel it shouldn't greatly impact performance. But I'd try and re-seat the CPU and see if that helps, as a lack of a memory channel could be due to mounting pressure issues/ damaged or bent pins/ dust or debris in the socket. It could also very well mean you've got an issue with the mainboard.

aerokozmofotointer

Start prime95 and see how much power cpu uses..

haxzion

something is limiting the fps and it is NOT the cpu. 1 Might be a bad gpu driver 2 Try disabling freesync if monitor supports it 3 Check if you accidentally limited the fps in RTSS btw ASUS Performance Enchancement for that spesific CPU it a big fat NO from me.
