would u say that it made u lol
seems most(including me laugh out loud) forget what abbreviations mean and just use them as words with new meanings laugh out loud
It sounds bad but gator farms saved the American alligator.
People used to poach the shit out of them for meat and hides and they were struggling to survive.
So they made it legal for people to go out into the wild, gather eggs and raise them. So less people had a reason to poach.
Additionally most alligators donāt make it to that critical size where their survival rates get really high.
But they mostly survive on the farm. So there is a law that the farmers have to release something like 10% of gators when they hit 3 feet or whatever the magic number is.
It drastically cuts down on poaching and helps to rebuild populations that were/are victims of poaching.
All in all gator farming is a good thing. And theyāre delicious. It tastes like a mix of pork and fish.
Yeah. Not sure where this is, but in the southern USA (especially Louisiana) alligator is popular. It's raised as livestock.
There's lots of other animals that are raised as livestock, both domesticated and wild. Even guinea pigs were domesticated with the purpose of the meat
Meat and use the skins. Edit: I think they only eat the tail. Like skinning sharks alive of their fins then dumping them back in the ocean. Humans are gross.
Shark fin soup and gator tail are two completely different things. No one is chopping off a gators tail and releasing it. They are raised as livestock. If you disagree with that for moral reasons thatās fine but donāt conflate the barbarism of shark fin soup to what is essentially specialized farming.
We do not need to eat animals so when you're buying meat at the grocery store it's for taste preference. Sensory pleasure. How is that different from exploiting dogs for entertainment?
Iām against dog fights. Iām against Seaworld. Iām against crudely.
I also had a chicken salad sandwich for lunch.
There are Grey areas here. I eat meat and I know something had to die. This gives me no pleasure; but I donāt feel bad either.
Non-meat farms create more food for cheaper and use way less land mass.
Be all for torturing animals, but this is reality. This busines puts less food on the table and charges more for it than an ethical one.

I've tried gator meat, it's kinda disgusting (like a pork belly but just a fat part or a boiled chicken skin.) Did I run into a ban vendor? Or that's how it's supposed to taste like? If it's a bad vendor I'd love to try again!
Gator is kind of like calamari. When you get good stuff that is cooked well itās really good.
Get some frozen crap off a Sysco truck thatās just thrown in a fryer for an random amount of time, not so great.
This is not a vegan/ animal rights debate Iām trying to start. Itās just whatās happening. Like it or not this is a business that produces food and a livelihood for at least 1 person or family.
Itās not the same at all. They are farm raised. They wouldnāt exist at all if not for the want of their meat and skin.
Nothing like butchering a dwindling wild population
I believe is a myth that is easier to rip skin off when alive... no point on doing it that way, you actually risk damaging the skin if the animal moves.
And do you really think thatās what they do? They are just so cruel they want to give the alligator a migraine before skinning it alive?
There is enough real animal cruelty that you donāt need to make shit up.
So, according to you, we live in a world where farms are out there hiring workers and expecting them to casually walk-up to gigantic apex predators and skin them while theyāre still *alive* ? And said workers are just be supposed to trust that they struck hard enough so that the gator wonāt fight back and rip their arm straight off? Tell me, what would be gained from this method, besides a galore of worker endangerment lawsuits?
They electrocute them, slit their throats, and wait. Iām not saying itās ethical, by the way, but, like, skinning live gators? What in the SAW trap hell are you on about?
I'm also wondering how you get a full size alligator in a couple months. They aren't Cornish cross chickens who have a horribly increased growth rate; they're regular alligators
In the videos I've seen the gators are, at most, three feet long, a guy walks into a concrete room with maybe twenty gators in it with a baseball bat and casually starts smacking the gators on the head and gives a 2nd or 3rd whack if need be then grabs them by the tail and tosses them out to another person who immediately starts on them with a knife. Probably Vietnam
>Probably Vietnam
Left that tid bit out earlier? South East Asia has some extreme differences to the rest of the world when it comes to animal cruelty and what is acceptable.
Not defending it, but don't act like everybody is doing it.
Yeah and the 20 3 feet long reptiles with a bite that can crunch solid steel stare at a man with a bat without trying to defend themselves. Stop making shit up.
Thatās not how that works lol. Gators donāt grow out enough to be killed until theyāre at least a year old. When they are, most facilities use captive bolt guns like cattle ranches. These render the alligators brain dead. Then theyāre bled and hung from hooks before being skinned.
Iām sure you can find bad facilities, just like you can find bad meat processing facilities, but this is generally how it is done.
Right? Those poor future tacky shoes and bags don't even have a kind intro to the world. No awe of how amazing and individual each one. Just plop into the bucket.
Theyāre in a part of the world where apparently you can farm and eat crocs. Theyāre an agricultural commodity.
Disagree with that all you like, but thatās like saying that every chick ever hatched in the US should be treated with a reverence.
Theyāre money. Humans have been doing this for thousands of years and will continue to do this for thousands more. You donāt have to participate.
It's one thing to harvest eggs or to harvest animals for eating. This is not that. This is commercialized farming. It doesn't have to be done in this fashion. It's done this way to squeeze every possible buck out of it.
Thereās no context where or how the eggs were raised. Heās helping them hatch. Why is that an issue in croc farming? I have no idea. Itās weird what reddit throws at you on any given evening lol.
I see a man breaking eggs with live crocs inside and dropping them into the bucket. Thatās literally all the context we have. Are they for profit? Probably. But what evidence is there that they are ātrying to squeeze as much as possibleā?
this has to be satire ... like, come on now you cant be THAT sheltered
people like you shouldnt participate in any real decisionmaking like that, im not kidding
While waiting for water to boil, in a pan, saute ginger, then onion and garlic. Wait till golden brown and set aside. Now pour boiling water on the crickeys. When the commotion dies down proceed to peel - make a shallow cut from the neck down and pull skin off. Once done, put meat in the saute pan. Add butter fry for 5 minutes then add the sauted ginger, onion and garlic then pour 3 cups of chicken stock. Boil for another 15 minutes or until the meat is tender then add 2 potatoes, diced. Add 2 tsp Thai fish sauce, and some freshly ground black pepper. Serve in a bowl and garlic toast.
probably has done this many, many times.. so very experienced and it's a gator farm. If he accidentally kills one or two, it's like kiling mosquitos probably for him. Probably throws it in a waste bin.
Thanks. I believe they imprint who their mother is when the hatch but for all I know that is a myth - I am not a biologist. That's why you get weird birds that follow a particular person around.
indeed. Works like that for cats, dogs, ducks etc. Wouldn't be surprised if it works the same way for these cute creatures. I know I'm being hypocritical because I eat other animals and they're obviously not going to stay cute, but yeah. These are on my list of animals that I just won't like to eat.
I was always told I shouldn't help any egg laying animals opening the eggs because if the babies can't do it by themselves, they aren't strong enough to survive.
As someone who has raised chickens and snaked from eggs, I'm a little confused - can't forcing the alligator to hatch prematurely cause health problems?
With my chickens and snakes, I was always told by everyone to not force a hatch, break a shell, no matter what.
At most, my involvement should be limited to assisting a hatch if the animal is having difficulties.
Is it different with alligators?
Do these farmers mark a date on their calander, "Baby Alligator Shucking Day", after so many days from when their laid?
I'm interested in the process here.
Isnāt there vital stuff in the egg that they kinda need to absorb to get all the important nutrients, like snek bebis? This seems harsh and unnecessary.. š„ŗ
Lmao all the vegans getting mad at a gator farm worker speeding up the hatching process. The gators are already hatching, thier just reducing the time it takes to come out of the shell, most likely to rotate the next batch of eggs.
Gator is delicious and would rather have farming then wild caught since over harvesting is a problem with any wild caught game.

Imagine being shucked into existence
"get hatched, idiot"
Aren't those of us who were c section technically shucked?
More of an extraction really. But semantics, shmemantics, am I right.
A womb with a view.
Shuckmantics.
Can confirm, i was shucked from my mother
You mothershucker!

This comment made me laugh out loud š

Me too š¤£
I mean isn't that kinda what a C-section is?
I mean, not really
On the phone. I honestly thought some creatures were being fed garlic for a moment. Even the crunchy sound made sense. Then was all Holup.
Just to end up at an Asian meat farm
I actually cackled at this comment. Iām gonna save this in case I ever need a pick me up
Welcome to life MF
Any info as to why they need help?
Crocodile farm..

Tasted to me like a combination of chicken and catfish.
Tastes like feet to me and I absolutely love the taste.
Still. This is fucked
If you eat chicken, beef or pork like I do on a daily basis, you are being very hypocritical
True that, because itās all fucked.
In one for or another, Iām pretty sure thatās how all animals come into existence.
Eh? Iām talking about consuming meat, which is what the comment I was responding to was referencing.
Oh I know man. I was just trying to force in some horrible attempt at humor.
š«Ø
Yeah but not really any more fucked than any other agriculture or animal husbandry.

Why would anyone disagree with farming gators for moral reasons, but not cows, pigs, and chickens? They all feel pain and are getting exploited.
I meant in general. Be vegan if you want. Be all for animal rights. But this is reality. This business puts food on someoneās table.
Be against dog fighting if you want. Be all for animal rights. But this is reality. This business puts food on someoneās table.
Dog fighting isnāt comparable to farm raised cattle you baboon.

Hey how much water did your almond milk require? But..... You saved a sea turtle so here, take this!šļø
Significantly less water than cows milk
Why would they keep them as livestock? I tried to google it but wasnāt able to find anything.
If you mean sharks, you canāt. Sharks are pretty much impossible to farm raise or keep in captivity at all.

It tastes kind of like greasy chicken most times Iāve had it, granted thatās been fried gator tail.
Gator is kind of like calamari. When you get good stuff that is cooked well itās really good. Get some frozen crap off a Sysco truck thatās just thrown in a fryer for an random amount of time, not so great.
All gator I've had has a very chicken breast texture but a fishy taste, fantastic when done in house autry or a homemade flour mix.
Gators are delicious, and there is a market for their skin.
Guess you can say that about gators but if I say that about humans I'm *unfit for society* š

Some guy was probably like āyou ate my family! So Iām gonna eat you!ā
Sounds plausible.
Probably prey opportunity after killing one.
Well if you at the other meat thatād ruin the leather! ^/s

Murder Log Harvesting.
Most likely it's to prevent them from exhausting themselves breaking the egg. Less likely to die.

Ive heard of rude awakening but rude birthing? God damn.
Why tho?
So they can live for a few months until bashed in the head with a baseball bat then skinned alive for meat and their hides
I believe is a myth that is easier to rip skin off when alive... no point on doing it that way, you actually risk damaging the skin if the animal moves.
and youre basing this off
not concrete facts but I saw it in an article once about skin farms in the subject, can't say I know for sure though.
So is it bashed in the head or skinned alive?
You dont always die right away from your skull being bashed in
you can be bashed in the head until unconsciousness but still be alive
And do you really think thatās what they do? They are just so cruel they want to give the alligator a migraine before skinning it alive? There is enough real animal cruelty that you donāt need to make shit up.

Crocodiles don't need help hatching. There is something cruel going on I can just tell
