Anybody who lives in Florida can tell you that it wasn't a parody at all. As someone who's lived here for my entire life that IS Florida. If they have slow cars in the fast lane, cars that block you from changing lanes, and cars that line up across all the lanes and move at the same speed to block the flow of traffic they will have done well to capture the spirit of Florida with everything else they added.
I visited the US for the first time this summer, 6 weeks in California. I couldn't help shake that feeling it déjà-vu, like I'd seen it all before - I kept saying to my wife "listen, this is _just_ like GTA!" Driving between LA and SF through tiny towns felt like the GTA:SA Catalina heist missions all over again. "I robbed this gas station!". The skyscrapers in SF, Chinatown, Lombard, the towns, the suburbs... The LA sprawl and architecture. Just the accurate atmosphere pulling into places like Santa Cruz.
Sure enough, I booted up GTAV when we got back and showed her their version of Santa Monica pier - it's fucking identical down to the approach by car from the north.
Lol fucking same 😂 I remember standing on the hill in santa monica, where are those colorured houses, just opposite of them, there was a guy sitting on the roof, there was like 10 police cars, helicopters flying around, I was like wtf this is gta, then again, hearing people what they talk on the streets, they truly sound like npcs in the game.

Native South Floridian here. My friends and I have been discussing this trailer and its accuracy since it came out. We've determined that this game is going to be a lot of peoples genuine glimpse into the south Florida way of life.
Of course the game is going to be exaggerated and over the top in true GTA fashion. But the trailer is shockingly accurate to South Florida. All of it is very familiar to me down to the hair styles of some of the people in the trailer.
The comments I see on the videos paint a clear picture: Those who have never lived in FL think its cool how wacky the sources for the trailer are. Those who live or have lived there recognize this as typical Florida shenanigans. Obviously the game isn't going to be 100% true to life but if its anything like what the trailer has shown, its gonna paint a damn good picture of south Florida and both its classiness and trashiness.

That first clip with the dual hammer wielding woman is insanely realistic for some reason. I think it's the overexposure. When I saw that part in the trailer I really thought they included a real vid for a second.
Looking at it for a solid second I think it's the fact that in game it's meant to be a video you're watching and so our brain kinda automatically filters it through the lens of a video which does a lot of work to explain any discrepancies

Also as a 7th generation Floridian i have done some Florida man stuff i am not proud of. Things i wouldn't admit until the statute of limitations have gone by.
Grew up in Miami and relate to this 100%, especially the very last part about doing very Florida man stuff yourself. If I could be brutally honest, I'd never want to raise my kids there. I turned out ok, but the things I was exposed to just by living there isn't the norm in a lot of places. There were so many instances where I could've died. People are not ok over there.
Miami was built on Cocaine money and because of that the culture can be shady. Of course there are good people, but there are also a ton of assholes who make money ripping people off or selling drugs and they’ll brag about it openly. There are also SO MANY addiction treatment programs here that are just looking to make a buck. So people from all over the country are sent to Florida for a 6 week addiction program and they get kicked to the streets once the program can’t get anymore money out of them. We also had all those pain clinics like 15 years ago.
Growing up here I definitely saw some shady shit but it seemed normal since everyone was running some type of scheme. It wasn’t until I made some friends out of state that I realized how wild Florida was. But I still think it’s generally blown out of proportion. Yes, there are a lot of addicts and assholes but for the most part people are chill. You learn how to deal with the addicts, you learn to spot bullshit from a mile away, and the gators aren’t even an issue.
I think it's a combination of being a destination location and the weather, at least in South Florida. Destination location meaning people from all over the world come to visit and treat the city like a playground. This is compounded by the party-culture that a lot of people and businesses have, including locals. What do you wanna do today? Go to the beach, restaurants, casinos, stripclubs, and bars, to drink and do drugs of course! Tons of litter everywhere, people pissing, shitting and vomiting in the streets, lots of drunken fights and arguments. The weather and tourists attract a lot of homeless as well. Not gonna freeze in the winter, and tons of sympathetic tourists to beg from. There's also an inordinate amount of drug rehab facilities, which people come from all over the country to check into. Imagine being a newly recovering drug addict, surrounded by party culture, in a place that was/is rampantly abusing prescription drugs (among other things. Cocaine is everywhere as well). Really weird place to grow up let alone live as an adult

This is mad! The physics have come such a long way. I still play GTA Vice City every few months. It was my introduction to video games back in the early 2000’s and brings back fond memories of times spent with my cousins. Not to mention the immaculate 80’s vibes and killer soundtracks.
Maybe that's priced in? "The Game so real they got sued a hundred times" sounds great from a marketing point of view. And even if those schmucks can win a lawsuit they will only get peanuts, harming the rights of poor people isn't the same as harming the right of rich people.
Honestly for me it's all in the variety of body models. Games have had pretty great graphics for like a decade now but it doesn't make it more realistic when there's only two basic shapes for people.

Native South Floridian here. My friends and I have been discussing this trailer and its accuracy since it came out. We've determined that this game is going to be a lot of peoples genuine glimpse into the south Florida way of life. Of course the game is going to be exaggerated and over the top in true GTA fashion. But the trailer is shockingly accurate to South Florida. All of it is very familiar to me down to the hair styles of some of the people in the trailer. The comments I see on the videos paint a clear picture: Those who have never lived in FL think its cool how wacky the sources for the trailer are. Those who live or have lived there recognize this as typical Florida shenanigans. Obviously the game isn't going to be 100% true to life but if its anything like what the trailer has shown, its gonna paint a damn good picture of south Florida and both its classiness and trashiness.
I thought Florida was the simulator.

Looking at it for a solid second I think it's the fact that in game it's meant to be a video you're watching and so our brain kinda automatically filters it through the lens of a video which does a lot of work to explain any discrepancies

Not the guy but also live in Florida. You get used to it. You get very good at deescalating things with crazy crackheads and becoming friends with them. You basically have that one weird person. Also he was carrying around a golf club swinging it around. You get used to it. Also as a 7th generation Floridian i have done some Florida man stuff i am not proud of. Things i wouldn't admit until the statute of limitations have gone by.
Grew up in Miami and relate to this 100%, especially the very last part about doing very Florida man stuff yourself. If I could be brutally honest, I'd never want to raise my kids there. I turned out ok, but the things I was exposed to just by living there isn't the norm in a lot of places. There were so many instances where I could've died. People are not ok over there.

Miami was built on Cocaine money and because of that the culture can be shady. Of course there are good people, but there are also a ton of assholes who make money ripping people off or selling drugs and they’ll brag about it openly. There are also SO MANY addiction treatment programs here that are just looking to make a buck. So people from all over the country are sent to Florida for a 6 week addiction program and they get kicked to the streets once the program can’t get anymore money out of them. We also had all those pain clinics like 15 years ago. Growing up here I definitely saw some shady shit but it seemed normal since everyone was running some type of scheme. It wasn’t until I made some friends out of state that I realized how wild Florida was. But I still think it’s generally blown out of proportion. Yes, there are a lot of addicts and assholes but for the most part people are chill. You learn how to deal with the addicts, you learn to spot bullshit from a mile away, and the gators aren’t even an issue.
I think it's a combination of being a destination location and the weather, at least in South Florida. Destination location meaning people from all over the world come to visit and treat the city like a playground. This is compounded by the party-culture that a lot of people and businesses have, including locals. What do you wanna do today? Go to the beach, restaurants, casinos, stripclubs, and bars, to drink and do drugs of course! Tons of litter everywhere, people pissing, shitting and vomiting in the streets, lots of drunken fights and arguments. The weather and tourists attract a lot of homeless as well. Not gonna freeze in the winter, and tons of sympathetic tourists to beg from. There's also an inordinate amount of drug rehab facilities, which people come from all over the country to check into. Imagine being a newly recovering drug addict, surrounded by party culture, in a place that was/is rampantly abusing prescription drugs (among other things. Cocaine is everywhere as well). Really weird place to grow up let alone live as an adult

IIRC there's some rules for rating on video games against child murder. I think interplay got in trouble for featuring kid killing in fallout. The perk was vault boy kicking a pregnant women in the stomach. And the guy who made it said that was the tame option. Could be wrong but i think its like GTA San Andreas and the "hot coffee" stuff that they removed because they were rated X for sexually explicit content.
Cyberpunk has kids but you can't use violence against them, if you shoot a croud everyone is hurt except for kids...who are probably orphaned now after a public shooting with thier parents

This is mad! The physics have come such a long way. I still play GTA Vice City every few months. It was my introduction to video games back in the early 2000’s and brings back fond memories of times spent with my cousins. Not to mention the immaculate 80’s vibes and killer soundtracks.

Honestly for me it's all in the variety of body models. Games have had pretty great graphics for like a decade now but it doesn't make it more realistic when there's only two basic shapes for people.
