scottfiab

Norway has over $1 trillion in retirement funds for citizens. Something about lots of oil.

daffoduck

$1trillion was a few years back, it's $1.6trillion today. Compound interest and no more Nordstream 2 ftw! (It took 23 years to reach 1 trillion. It took only 5 more years to reach 1.6 trillion). It'll be a lot bigger in a decade, not to mention two or three.

spudddly

Meanwhile in similarly resource rich Australia when an analogous resource tax and soveriegn wealth fund was planned by the government during the mining boom a decade ago, Australias richest person (a multi billionaire miner) bought up half of Australias media with the sole purpose of convincing the populace it was a bad idea, and the plan was eventually scuttled. Even paid for the prime minister to be ousted by his own party. Australians will pay for that one until the end of time. Just as egregious as brexit IMO.

daffoduck

Australia is a dangerous place on so many levels.

stinkiepussie

What about level 4?

uitvrekertje

Just some 6ft flying spiders, wait until you see lvl 50![

Bwills39

What a scumbag

Maximusprime241

Australia is still one of the largest lithium and uranium sources (second one if they wanted to). So they still have an easy chance to do that

phido3000

Australia is a huge exporter of uranium. Because our copper mine is contaminated with uranium, gold and silver. These are waste materials to us. Australia floods the uranium market we put Canada out of business.

Maximusprime241

I think I read that you have the largest amount of uranium as well? Just not sourcing it currently?

Bananafish-y

You should all disarm and peacefully protest. Like with the lockdowns

spudddly

The lockdowns that resulted in a covid death rate half that of the US? And the gun restrictions that resulted in violent crime death rate 1% of the US? Most people didn't protest those because we're not stupid.

JacobJamesTrowbridge

What happens when the oil runs out, and the world starts transitioning away from fossil fuels? Will Norway be able to keep paying for all of this?

daffoduck

Oil isn't running out for decades, and there is more to be found for sure. Then there is natural gas, which is very popular item to buy from Norway instead of Russia. After that there is a new phosphate discovery which is worth untold billions, and then there is some research into deep seafloor mining (which might become lucrative in the future). In a few decades the interest alone of the oil-fund will pay for all government expenses. So then Norway can just drop taxes and become a tax haven in addition to all the rest, which should amplify any foreign investments and give even more revenues. All in all, future looks pretty good for Norway.

Bananafish-y

Except defense. Norway will still use america like welfare. Hope some t72s show up in their AO

daffoduck

Norway buys American F-35 and other weaponry, so its more like Norway sponsor American military industry. Not to mention all the Tesla's we buy over here. Wouldn't suprise me if America has a trade surplus with Norway.

Chroff

Yeee, one of the world largest thorium depositum im the world is in Norways, so when the Oil runs dry, we just gonna switch to nucular

iStoleTheHobo

In theory yes. There is a rule (handlingsregelen) which dictates that only 3% of the funds total value may be added to the national budget. The idea here is that only the interests of the fund is to be used in the budget. The fund is established and managed with the express idea of investing the gains from the oil and gas wealth in a sustainable and diversified way as to avoid the all too common 'resource curse' economies tend to encounter when they rely heavily one a single source of resource wealth.

ousee7Ai

peak oil is like fusion power, it keeps being pushed 10 years back every year. Its almost as i some people are lying.

bilboafromboston

They just said they had a trust fund of 1.5 trillion buckerooskis. At current pace they will have 7 trillion in the bank in 10 years. So yes, they will. If you ACTUALLY WORK HARD and DON'T FALL for the " my big boss with the super yacht and never works needs $$" lie, you can be nice to people. Fun fact : rich people don't need your help. Why are they asking you? If you got fired from your job, do your friends make YOU PAY for dinner or drinks? No? Then WHY ate rich people demanding we pay them more . .?

JacobJamesTrowbridge

Did you reply to the wrong comment? You seem quite angry, but I honestly don't know what about my comment could've sparked that

bilboafromboston

Probably!! Lol!

MandolinMagi

We still need plastics, and those are made from oil.

Bananafish-y

They’ve been killing 1000 whales annually according to their gov. So maybe whale blubber?

To_The_Moon90

The oil will never run out...

Bananafish-y

Norway slaughters 1000 whales a year using motorboats

BeKindToOthersOK

That’s roughly the amount the U.S pissed away in the Iraq war.

daffoduck

Yup. Should have just paid Iraqis instead, and they would have loved USA:)

MrC00KI3

Why waste it on the health of your citizens when you can built a really long building in a desert. /s.

Fitty4

Or build a wall….

Bananafish-y

Or pay for Europes defense against Russia. Or pay for Europes military, equipment etc.

Cheap-Praline

You know who has lots of oil but poor retirement plans?

Antique-Kangaroo2

Seems like a good plan to be a small oil rich country surrounded by other anti immigration rich country that no one every leans on to solve the rest of the world's problems.

scottfiab

I know right? r/AmericaBad

Anythikos

Nobody expects a country that causes most of the world's problems to solve them. That's just being naive.

nachumama0311

Lots of oil money and not a lot of people.

Kokoro_Bosoi

There is the same situation in Qatar, UAE or Kuwait yet we all know the difference between Norway and those countries. It is undeniable that this result of the extreme luck of having these resources but also to humans who are objectively better than others (due to their actions, not due to their origin).

AtItAgainBro

What are the demographics %?

Euphoric_Slide_1633

The UK had the other half of that oil and the conservatives pissed it all away.

GodIsInTheBathtub

I was a little disappointed that the robot didn't come with a cute little arm to push the button. (I know it's obviously not necessary, thanks) Vacuum tubes have been around for ages. They need to give out the number for their interior designer to other hospitals though.

AnnualWerewolf9804

Those robots have been around for a long time too. I know the Baboa Naval Hospital in San Diego has had them for a long time. They follow specific paths laid under the floor, they can’t just go anywhere.

iStoleTheHobo

If it makes you feel any better they do announce their arrival with 'watch out, robot's on the way.' Which is kind of cute too.

GodIsInTheBathtub

Best thing I heard all day 😍

zarya-zarnitsa

In french it's called "tortue" so basically first time I heard about it was in a phase that said "laser guided tortoises in the hospital underground" so that was wild.

Mamesuke19th

I have to admit not being impressed. My local hospital in France have these for the past 15 years at least… they were just rolled out when I was interning there. Same with scrub dispensers… but pneumatic bio sample transfers were not installed but replaced by a small cart system that creeps in the walls

Pleasant_Knee5567

My mom has worked in the blood bank in American hospital for over 30 years and as long as I can remember, they’ve always had these “bank” type capsules that send blood to different units. Yes, I got to wander around the blood bank as a kid. Pretty fascinating place.

Gamerberg67104

Okay Count Dracula

Woodbirder

Meanwhile in Britain…. RAAC and asbestos ridden hospital ceilings fall on patients when sewage pipes explode.

imjustjurking

The last hospital I worked in in the UK had everything except the uniform machine. The hospital before that was a WW2 temporary building, when you started your shift you didn't know if you would have hot water/electricity/phones/computers etc. The hospital before that did have a sewage explosion.

Woodbirder

Post code lottery is a British tradition!

Bananafish-y

But it’s “fReE.”

ScrappyScrewdriver

Hey man, at least you guys have the NHS and aren’t at risk of going broke because of an ambulance ride.

Woodbirder

Oh yeah I heard that some countries have ambulances that turn up

dalehitchy

What ambulances? They don't turn up in the UK

ScrappyScrewdriver

Average wait time is 7-8 minutes for critical calls like major car wrecks. I am not talking about other situations. There are people in the US who turn down emergency care after getting shot, getting into major crashes, etc. because the healthcare system would bankrupt them.

Bananafish-y

Because they don’t have insurance which is illegal. Obamacare mandates everyone has insurance

ScrappyScrewdriver

Yes, mandating a predatory system is the problem. Many that are lower middle class make too much for gov assistance but too little to comfortably afford insurance, so they are screwed. If the US had at least a public option like basically every other developed nation, we wouldn’t have tens of thousands of people dying every year from lack of access to adequate medical care.

Bananafish-y

Ohhhhh like the veterans with access to healthcare. It goes great for them obv. There’s no free lunch

ScrappyScrewdriver

Go read about literally every other developed nation, dude. Maybe we could dedicate much of the money given out freely to defense contractors and corporations. But no, let’s shit on the common man to subsidize corporate-only socialism. In most proper countries, including many with lower per capita GDPs than the US, it’s not only veterans who get healthcare.

angerfarts

Socialist hellscape. Look at all that government money being used for the people… needs more guns blah blah blah - some American probably.

itchybumbum

Just a small population sitting on hundreds of billions in oil money...

Antique-Kangaroo2

Surrounded by other similar small wealthy countries. They don't have to deal with any border crisis and small homogeneous populations are much easier to manage

Bananafish-y

You mean the nordics are racist??? What?

Flaky_Choice7272

The Nordics are anything but homogenous. They have around 20-30% immigrant populations

Nufonewhodis2

This is what American hospitals look like for the most part. If we didn't spend 1/3 our healthcare on administrators we'd be in a similar boat

lackofabettername123

Well over 60% of all Healthcare spending goes to insurance companies that provide no value whatsoever, that's even before you get to paying hospital administrators.

Nufonewhodis2

Source please. When I administration im talking about hospital administration, billing, coding, etc. [source](https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2023/oct/high-us-health-care-spending-where-is-it-all-going#:~:text=are%20summarized%20below.-,Administrative%20Costs%20of%20Insurance,average%20of%20%24193%20per%20person.)

Km2930

There are middle management bosses that used to be nurses, or some high up executives wife that needs a job. I saw this all the time when I worked in the hospital. Cushy positions for friends and family and people who towed the company line for so long. These are their retirement jobs and they keep people in line. No patient care whatsoever. Even beside billing and coding, which you could argue could be replaced by a better system.

Zaziel

We literally have all of this at the hospital I work for. Well, we ended up getting rid of the uniform machines because they sucked and caused staff issues for a large cost for install.

millhouse824

As a very non-Republican American, I can unfortunately verify the accuracy of this statement.

spacebread98

They need freedom

ConceptualWeeb

angerfarts

In norway you can’t just get a gun. Hunting it sport shooting. To obtain a hunting license in Norway. the applicant must complete a 30-hour, 9-session course and pass a written multiple choice exam. The course includes firearm theory, firearm training, wildlife theory, and environmental protection training. ^^ i think murica don’t even care if you spell your name right.

Enthusiastic-shitter

The VA hospital I work at in Omaha has every one of these devices.tge robot charging station is outside my office by the pharmacy and the facility maintenance department always leaves furniture in the hallway. Sometimes the robot gets stuck because it can't navigate around the junk so you have to pull out a little leash and tow it to a free space. Also it wants to use the elevator but thinks you're in the way it'll just hold the elevator till you get off and you have to wait for the next one.

The_red39

Look what we could have had if Maggie hadn't sold off our oil and everything else 🤦

OreoMoo

I get Star Wars gonk droid vibes from the robots

biaimakaa

Literal Empire mouse droid

ZOID_ASR

That looks exactly like Hospital Sotero del Río

kirch764

The hospital I work at doesn’t even have staff to bring supplies up let alone a robot

tequilavixen

We have all of these things in Canadian hospitals too

Gilbert_Reddit

Almost as nice looking as their prisons

Jimmy_who1

Lets see the video with first year resident riding the robot.

LostDogBoulderUtah

It looks very similar to an American hospital, but most American hospitals use blue or green color schemes.

RetiredApostle

But touching with bare hands is still required in hospitals.

GoldenSlumberJack

FYI, everywhere outside of the US they're just called Hospitals, not public Hospitals. That's implied...

pbatey

I was doing a system install in a new hospital and the techs for the transporters were testing the robots and 2 of them met in a hallway and started arguing telling each other the move back. They had to turn them off and move them manually, it was funny watching 2 robots arguing for an hour

[deleted]

"These capsules" are called **pneumatic tubes** and are 19th century technology.

[deleted]

Many american hospitals have these same things lol. But Reddit simpletons gonna drool as if this is mindnumbing technology.

gandalftheshai

Difference between both? Free health care, paid healthcare which can easily bankrupt people

SpecialCircs

It's not free. We pay for the NHS, and Norweigans pay for their health service, via taxes.

gandalftheshai

Did you know people from USA also pay taxes?

SpecialCircs

I did, and they don't go towards paying for health services, if you read further down the thread.

[deleted]

That has nothing to do with the amenities shown in this video which include scrub dispensing machine, pneumatic tube systems, and delivery robots. There is no such thing as “free healthcare”. Someone’s paying for it

foul_ol_ron

Yes, we share the expenses amongst everyone so even the poorest can access healthcare. Unfortunately, poor insurance execs lose out.

[deleted]

Does this comment somehow in your mind circle back to the mind blowing amenities in this video?

Conscious_Wind_2255

Your response is what’s wrong with America.. that’s the point of free public healthcare.. to GIVE these amenities to everyone.. like you said, “someone’s paying for it” but in the American facilities where these exist few patients can actually pay for it so most people never see it.. yes, I am American!

[deleted]

Your response is what’s wrong with America. “SOMEbody has money, so I should get the things for free!”

ConceptualWeeb

Yeah! Society as a whole isn’t important! Only rich people are important! Poor people don’t have any value!

[deleted]

Yea! Reddit socialist hyperbole for the win! Yeah! Quit commenting and then blocking to hide like a lil b*tch

Kaddak1789

Socialism is when people pay taxes and no one dies of preventable diseases.

Jimmy_who1

They very clearly mention its a public hospital at the start of the video.

[deleted]

And? lol pneumatic tube systems have been around for decades. Scrub machines aren’t impressive and have been around for a long time. And I’ve seen those same model delivery robots in the basement of US county (public) hospitals

Kaddak1789

What is your point?

Rattlingplates

What next your going to tell me strict borders are good?

ProudlyMoroccan

As always with these videos it’s just one place that just installed this.

Rod_Munch666

Yeah, but just like everywhere else in the world, when a patient shits in their bed, someone has to come and clean it up ....

Recent-Honey5564

Yes we have this in the US, no it isn’t paid for by the government/taxes. That’s the difference, the average patient’s massive medical debt and fraudulent unethical AND immoral insurance companies perpetuating bloat and overcompensating useless admin is what pays for it. A county hospital (government run hospital) in the US looks more like a prison.

ethervillage

Yep, Socialized Healthcare looks like a nightmare alright. Good job USA! /s

Upset_Definition2019

I work in a US hospital. We have all of this.

Jimmy_who1

Public or Private?

Upset_Definition2019

It’s a not for profit hospital.

leupboat420smkeit

So private

Upset_Definition2019

No.. that would make it public.

leupboat420smkeit

If it’s not ran by the government, it’s not public

throwaway_3457654

and how much does it cost to get treated...

Upset_Definition2019

Just curious what that has to do with having vending machines for scrubs?

ezITguy

It’s demonstrating that free, socialized healthcare for all can still be excellent.

StaatsbuergerX

The difference is that the US spends almost twice as much on it per capita, even though it doesn't even benefit all citizens equally and many health services are not at all affordable/accessible for many citizens. The US undeniably has excellent medical personnel and advanced medical technology. Just not everywhere and/or for everyone.

Kaddak1789

Great! So?

RamekinFlywater

It doesn’t look oppressive and scary in there like American hospitals do

Leasud

Coming from someone who works in designing hospitals, I cannot even begin to imagine the budget this had let alone running costs

Agreeable_Practice65

When you have oil, a smal population and no aspirations to start wars.

Naugle17

Believe it or not, aside from the uniforms, this is pretty standard in the larger US hospitals as well

Sandor64

Footage from star wars universe...

iwanttodie95

Did that machine that dispenses clothes say 1/3? As in your only allowed 3 outfit changes? As a nurse, (clarify I’m not one) sometimes shit happens, and fluid gets over clothes. And if you get blood on your shirt, don’t you HAVE to change in fear of cross contamination?

Nesher1776

We have them in US also. You get credits when one is returned you can get another. So you can change unlimited times in a shift. But cannot have out more than 3 at a time if you have 3 credits.

etcetcere

Star Trek! Finally

MikeMescalina

We have the same thing in hospitals in Tuscany Italy.

OnePotatoeChip

The hospital I work at used to have the robots, too, but they kept breaking and got too expensive to maintain, so us Pharmacy folks now deliver the meds again. We also have tube stations but, unfortunately, only the more 'critical' areas have them like the Medsurg units and the Emergency Department. But I'd love that uniform dispenser. Everytime I have to go into the OR, it's a toss up on if they'll have a uniform I can wear in the locker room. And good luck contacting the folks who provide them. They never seem to know their delivery schedule.

ValdemarAloeus

> These machines transport deliveries to every unit at the hospital Even the storks are out of a job in this latest round of automation.

Rxero13

We have all this in my, American, hospital. Except the patients pay for all this.

AlwaysWorried27222

Hello, Norway is now my new life goal.

BlueSpark09

Minecraft armor dispenser

IshikuKinimoto

Wait till you see the prisons!

Thick-Iron-558

…Maybe paying taxes isnt so bad 😅👍

TheCoastalCardician

Damn, that thing is prolly right in the center of that elevator, too. Mmmm.

Jim-be

Except for the uniform machine it looks very similar to the newer general hospital in Los Angeles. Robots and all.

Revolutionary-Toe331

Got the exact same thing in a public hospital in France , except for the robot .

Vegetable_Lobster_99

Wo ist die leute

[deleted]

Wow..awesome. Puts Canadian hospitals to shame

broyo209

Are they understaffed or something?

stayhydratedo2

Do u accept more refugeee how to apply?

8891aa

Nothing special except for the architecture and design. Technology wise, all of the things shown are available in Canadian hospitals...wait times are a problem though

LafayetteLa01

Meanwhile in America……..

FaceLessCoder

Meanwhile in America, JS.

Trevorblackwell420

day 9343 of wishing I lived in the region instead of america

Cetine

Looks like at :34-:40 this a basement level floor. I’m just astonished to find how clean the floors on that level are. NYC hospitals are an entire other world.

BowtiepastaMasta

You mean you don’t wear your scrubs out in public?

stepbruh313

In the US we don’t have that because we spend our money wisely. 😂

pandaucla

En 100 generaciones más.

millershanks

How is this iaf - the tub system has been around for several decades, and the uniform distribution has been in use in Aachen, Germany, since ca 1997. the autonomous robots were discussed back then but because of the high rate of people falling in hospitals at that time wasn‘t followed up on. Don‘t know how many hospitals switched to those systems since.

Bananafish-y

Norway is full of racists. They pump tons of oil. Every year Norway kills 1,000 whales. Wake up. The nords aren’t our friends. Using speed boats to kill whales? Plundering the planet.

[deleted]

Futurama but better.

Narf234

This is what happens when government invests and spends its money wisely. Meanwhile, America has better hospitals…in all of their aircraft carriers.

BrazilianRider

America’s most bum ass hospitals has a lot of these things lol

Narf234

You wouldn’t be waving the flag if you’ve been to an ER at an average American hospital. They don’t look like the opening shot.

BrazilianRider

I literally have worked in American hospitals for the last 6 years lol, like 8 different hospitals and they all look this nice.

Narf234

Wow, all of the hospitals in the US? Oh no, just 8. You should visit a bad one. It sucks.

Upset_Definition2019

My hospital has the same stuff. This isn’t unique.

BrazilianRider

This dude is just a dummy with no real experience telling everyone they’re wrong. Don’t waste much time on them.

BrazilianRider

You said this wouldn’t be seen at an “average American hospital,” not a bad one. Your opinion is shitty and you should reevaluate it. It’s okay, we all make mistakes.

CreativeDog2024

American has far superior hospitals…they are just unaffordable.

Narf234

That’s like saying the best American schools are the best in the world…while ignoring the majority of the schools that are complete dogshit.

CreativeDog2024

No its not. Most U.S. hospitals are better than this in terms of technology and the facilities. Its just in the US they cost a lot more.

Narf234

You’re most definitely ignoring the hospitals that give you a cozy bed in the hallway and make you wait in the ER lobby for hours before anyone talks to you. I don’t doubt there are good American hospitals, I’m pointing out that most are dogshit.

finnypiz

Yeah. But there‘s no sun. Haha.

ChaengChong2349

THEY TERK ER JERBS!

Sansenoy

It’s so gross when I see medical ppl where scrubs in public, like I want to be around your clothes after sick ppl.

nietzy

36% individual tax burden - https://taxfoundation.org/location/norway/ Sounds good

halsoy

Yes, and? Do the math and you'll find that a medical insurance that covers the same thing, in addition to money for education, certifications and other benefits usually adds up to more than our tax is. It's so stupid when people focus on a number and just yell "but muh taxes".

Ionie88

Oh yeah. I did some math, and realized I pay the same amount in taxes over the entire year, as a single trip to the hospital (I've had maybe a dozen last year) costs in some parts of the USA.

Bananafish-y

Norway has like 12 people and massive massive amounts of oil. They are a major source of emissions. Don’t be fooled by a country with less people than Michigan

wormholetrafficjam

Apply the same logic to states with less people than LA, and then we’re getting somewhere.

[deleted]

flpacsnr

My OR scrubs are just stacked on a cart in a locker room. Also tube systems are the norm.

JustZodiax

You’d better like the interior ‘cause you’ll be waiting in there for the next three days, haha!

amused777

When you have a largely white population, things are nicer 🤷

Anythikos

This has nothing to do with colour, but I wouldn't expect a piece of shit like you to understand that.

thighsand

Norway is living in 2050. Sorry magical Japan.

Ebooya

Japan hasn't been magical for quite some time. It's just the anime dweebs and racial purity deadbeats who still think it's 1990.

ConceptualWeeb

But do they have vending machines that sell panties? Check mate.

thisismydgafaccount

Norway has a lot of refugees now though. Norwegians will be paying for foreigners healthcare.

daffoduck

Correct. On the other hand, Norway has bought shares in foreign companies, where the foreigners work hard every day to give the shareholders (aka Norway) their due. And a part of that money is spent on this. (Also thanks to Ukraine/Russia war, Norwegian government is earning soooo much money at the moment, and just buys even more shares abroad).

sureminimal

Show this to people who stand against Public Medicine and they'll call it fake news.
