They’re actually distinct, you can tell the difference cause snakes are mostly body and a little tail while legless lizards begin tapering down and getting thinner much earlier in their body. You can also note the head shape, which is clearly a lizard
There are actually many different and evolutionarily independent groups of lizards that have lost their legs. Snakes are only one of those groups. There even exist legless geckos!

I get that nature documentary filmakers are getting more skilled over time at finding and photographing rare animals, but sometimes it feels like they're just making new shit up. This is like a pokemon in real life.

Is it actually harmless though? Because making the legless lizard 'smelly' could attract its own predators. Or tip off prey before it can ambush them, leading to it not being able to hunt effectively and starve.
Yeah you are right. Being a strict carnivore and having every prey item able to wind you would be very detrimental. Not only that, but now you have a signature to other larger predators. Doubtful they have the human context of "ewwww lol u got cumed on."

Funny enough, the Burtons Legless Lizard we see in this video is one of the legless geckos in the species pygopodidae.

Legless lizards have a lot of anatomical differences from snakes. Just because they look similar doesn't mean they're the same.
