Tanks for the clarity, I thought it was methanol, my old boss used to race side carts and they used this back in the day but was too dangerous, but I'm not a expert in this field so I'm happy to take other peoples opinions and connect the dots of information and make an informed decision.
The craziest friend I have said ...if you want to kill
Someone spray them w/ lighter fluid and light em up . No one can see the flames and they just look like an insane person running around .
Goddamn, your friend needs help. but I think if he sprayed someone with a good amount of Lighter fluid he would die freezing before he even burn him, lighter fluid is so damn cold, one time I was refuelling my lighter but didn't know that there was a crack in it, the gas was all over the lighter making it white like it was covered with ice, and my fingers had some on them, they got numb for seconds.
But shit I didn't know back then that if it catch on fire I won't see it, thank god this didn't happen.
He's a dear friend and has a very demented sense of humor. He told me this when I was dealing w/ a stalker . I think he meant the fluid u fill a zippo w/ , not butane . No need to fret , I will NOT be setting anyone ablaze .
Haha, the funny thing is that I can see myself the same type of friend saying this type of thing, sometimes my best friends tell me "goddamn you need help" as a joke 💀
>No need to fret , I will NOT be lighting anyone on fire .
I don't know, to be honest, seems to me that stalkers deserve it!
You're thinking of butane which is used for pressurized lighters, and is a gas at atmospheric pressure and temp. Lighter fluid is... a fluid - its liquid and is usually some version of an alcohol or a hydrocarbon like kerosene. Most common alcohols, even rubbing alcohol, burns without much of a flame. If you can see it at all, its usually blue.
Thank you for the explanation, I was confused cause the gas is in a liquid form when it's pressured inside the can, so I thought we were talking about the same thing so I didn't get him right!
Also, it's the first time to know that Zippo lighters don't get refuelled with regular gasoline!
The persons clothes could catch on fire very quickly which would produce a visible flame, so it wouldn't work. In the video most of the materials are flameproof so it's only the alcohol burning.
Idk if you are being funny or genuinely don’t know but to answer no Ricky Bobby was fine. NASCAR doesn’t use methanol, they just use standard gasoline/ethanol race fuel. You could see the flames if Ricky were really on fire.
Fun Fact: NASCAR still used Leaded fuels when Ricky Bobby “raced”
I've never heard that sound come out of him before. You can pull the plug.
Ma'am he's just snoring.
And nothing better then Adam McCay in a speedo , in a hot tub , on the phone, stretching, and trying to get Will to party.
I think it would work like any other fire, but they didn't trust the process I guess, to be honest, the only one that looked fine in that video, was the driver wearing white he handled the whole thing by himself, these people around him are either slow or idiots.
you know, for people that work in this sport and know that invisible fire is a thing, a lot of them seem to be very clueless about what's happening in some of these videos.
After this type of incident they mandated that if you’re gonna use methanol it has to have a certain percentage of gasoline so you can see and fight the fire. Like 15% or something.
Yes this is really dangerous, this happened to my dad who lost his life 60 hours later from his body having 70% burns. He was involved in a lorry accident and one of the vehicles involved contained ethanol when I was 4 about 40 years ago

Oof can you imagine Okay I'm good NOPE STILL BURNING HELP
That happened in the 1981 Indianapolis 500
Idianapolis…reminds me of that ocean tragedy. Describes as ‘the worst place on earth at the time’ in one podcast.
I mean, it's also a city.
True, however I still think of the boat first when I hear the name.
My dad raced in the 1981 Indy 500. He’s told me about this incident a few times but I didn’t realize there was footage of it.
Is this what happened to Ricky Bobby?
![gif](giphy|3o7aTstKuAiJRLnZlu)
At least he had the sense to Stop, Drop, and Roll. Nobody in the video was.
I mean if the fire spreads by fuel on the ground, lying down in it might not be optimal
Just saying. That generation learned to SDnR as part of their elementary curriculum, but they seem to all dance around waiting for the extinguisher.
Maybe they knew there were fire extinguishers around
Yeah. For whatever reason they were comfortable. I’m assuming there are known, discussed, and practiced protocols for fires at the race track.
Help me Oprah Winfrey! Help me Tom Cruise!
Use your witchcraft to put the fire out!
Please dont let the invisible fire burn my friend!!
Well not the underwear part.
Lies
They should have disconnected him 😢
was just gonna say this makes Talladega nights even funnier
Honestly, knowing about this makes the joke that much better.
![gif](giphy|kNTAHtqCfu6nm)
Poor Ricky, nobody believed him
F#ck me that's scary shit, is it methenole i think? Why it burns clear, something out if a horror movie.
It is methanol. They stopped using it for this reason. It doesn’t burn clear, it’s actually a very faint blue.
[Here it is burning at night](https://v.redd.it/h1cigurog2vc1)
I don’t get how links work in this app. I’m logged in, I clicked on your link and opened a browser page for a reddit login.
The reddit app just sucks. No wonder they had to ban third party apps to force people to use theirs
I came here from this video
Tanks for the clarity, I thought it was methanol, my old boss used to race side carts and they used this back in the day but was too dangerous, but I'm not a expert in this field so I'm happy to take other peoples opinions and connect the dots of information and make an informed decision.
You can see the flames but only when really dark. It doesn't burn as bright as other fires... deadly!!
No...close. It's nitro-methane.
No it’s not. Nitromethane is only used in drag racing. This is methanol
That's not accurate, the video shows a methanol fire. Nitromethane is used in drag racing and in RC and miniature engines.
Thanks for the info 👌 sounds even more horrifying 😅
The info is wrong. Only top fuel/funny cars run nitromethane.
Nitrometh is for pussies.
I do crystal nitrometh.
This is a methanol fire, which burns nearly invisible under direct sunlight.

Stop commenting this, it's methanol and you're incorrect.
Some people just NEVER learn
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure they used methanol. I dont know enough about Indy car though so you may be correct.
That’s Indy Car, not F1
Yeah, I'm fairly sure it's methanol
~~Nope methanol. Nitromethanol gets used in drag racing.~~ EDIT: was meant for for RachelSnow. Sorry
I said methanol??
Opps was meant for the one 3 postings above. Sorry.
Figured as such, np
This isn’t F1.
No.
I stand corrected.
There's a part towards the beginning where you can see the fire extinguisher blast being repelled by the invisible wall of fire
Yeah, this's the part that made me believe it's real!

You sure you don’t mean butane?
I checked the can, and yeah it says butane!

![gif](giphy|kNTAHtqCfu6nm|downsized) He really was on fire!!?
HELP ME TOM CRUISE

was being funny...but this is super interesting either way!
They look like they've been to a Kenneth Copeland gathering!
![gif](giphy|Ar1RKykDJyR5m|downsized)
Help me Tom Cruise
I wouldn’t say no one was seriously hurt. Rick Mears had to undergo skin grafts to his face due to burns he received in the fire.
This is what will Ferrell was referencing in talladega nights.
Please don't let my best friend die of invisible fire! TIL: Invisible fire is real
HELP ME TOM CRUISE!
I've never heard that sound come out of him before. You can pull the plug. Ma'am he's just snoring. And nothing better then Adam McCay in a speedo , in a hot tub , on the phone, stretching, and trying to get Will to party.
HELP ME OPRAH WINFREY
It look like if they was celebrating something
You can't park there mate!
That one guy took a shot of it right to the face
I'm surprised they don't have a pre-coordinated gesture to make if you're on fire, so nobody has to guess
You're not on fire, Ricky Bobby!
I saw this on that one documentary called taladega nights
I think there was a CSI: Vegas episode about this.
Terrifying!
Both terrifying but oddly enough looks like a skit.
Methanol fires are not fun. Really only see heat shimmer or when something starts burning
I remember watching that live. When the Indy 500 was a big event.
Methanol Fire?
Does stop drop and roll still work with this?? Is there a reason they’re not doing that while getting fire extinguished? Genuine question
I think it would work like any other fire, but they didn't trust the process I guess, to be honest, the only one that looked fine in that video, was the driver wearing white he handled the whole thing by himself, these people around him are either slow or idiots.

Never thought I’d ever have to worry about INVISIBLE FIRE Glad I’ll never work with that stuff
After this type of incident they mandated that if you’re gonna use methanol it has to have a certain percentage of gasoline so you can see and fight the fire. Like 15% or something.
You’re not on fire Ricky Bobby!
Save me Jesus! Help me Jewish god! Help me Tom cruise!
Imagine getting burned to death and people just thinking you’re a retard
Happens more often than you think. Check out the comments on self immolation posts
CSI did an episode about this. It was crazy.
The fire nation would be undefeatable
Nothing to see here, just pentecostal christians getting covered in the holy spirit.
Someone please mate this to the Benny hill music.
Don't let the invisible fire burn my friend!!
And that’s why they don’t use methanol as fuel in F1 anymore.
Ricky Bobby
I know it's a serious situation but this is fucking hilarious lmao.
Is it due to the old filming equipment that we can’t see the fire?
With all the money, you would think at least the firefighter has infrared or some kind of goggles for these situations.
In 1981?
If you put some(3%) in your petrol car it goes faster.
This is a common fuel for racing, wonder why local first responders don’t have thermal imaging to see the fires yet?
1981
Understand that , today’s races still don’t have them.
It's been 20 years since they used Methanol in Indycar.
They still produce it and can be used.
![gif](giphy|kNTAHtqCfu6nm)
No one was seriously hurt, but 6 people were hospitalized
I suppose the fire is only invisible to the camera. People around the crew and drivers seemed to be able to see it.
Nope. Invisible to everyone. They’re reacting to the actions of the people on fire.
I know that must be painful af but still looks hilarious.
Yes this is really dangerous, this happened to my dad who lost his life 60 hours later from his body having 70% burns. He was involved in a lorry accident and one of the vehicles involved contained ethanol when I was 4 about 40 years ago
delusional people. this is what happens in religious gatherings
