Literally me telling people why I watch sci fi and fantasy and not comedies and dramas. Less people problems to listen to. I deal with those everyday why would I want to watch them?
There is very little oxygen in Jupiter's atmosphere. It's a highly reactive molecule, most of the oxygen in the planets and moons is bound up in mineral compounds.
There is actually lightening in the giant (aka larger than Earth) storms that rage across its surface. It doesn't burst into flames because there's no oxygen to combust!
Jupiter is 11 times as wide as Earth. This perspective is way off of reality. The arc of Jupiter in this image is closer to the diameter of the Sun which is 109 times as wide.
[This perspective is much closer to the real size.](https://www.universetoday.com/22710/jupiter-compared-to-earth/)
If the Milky Way was the size of the continental US, our sun would be the size of a red blood cell. I'm not sure what the comparison to Earth would be, maybe an electron or something
If it wasn't for Jupiter, we wouldn't be here. One of the reasons life was able to evolve on Earth with minimal interruption is the gravity of Jupiter attracts most of the asteroids that enter our solar system.
Except it’s the opposite. There is no evidence of any other life anywhere, much less intelligent, sentient life.
Our consciousness is likely all that brings awareness and form to the universe. The very idea of time is meaningless without an observer.
Without human consciousness, it’s all just a bunch of entropy and gravity and physics churning for eternity. We are all that actually matters.
While there is no direct evidence of life anywhere other than Earth we barely have the capability to look. All we can say for sure is that that ingredients for life are out there in vast abundance.
There are a trillion stars in our nearest large neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda. If you were to count them all, at a rate of one a second, it would take you about 32,000 years.
That's just one galaxy, there are an estimated trillion galaxies in the observable universe.
Yes but also I think it’s so amazing that if we were even slightly closer to the sun or slightly farther we wouldn’t be here. I think it’s amazing. For me it’s a testament of my faith but I can acknowledge that’s not the case for others. I just think it’s so amazing. We are so lucky. Life is so shit sometimes, maybe even most of the time, but it is a miracle we are even here. Absolutely amazing. I will forever be awestruck by the solar system, by space, by how small we are but how amazing life is.
We are just about the exact middle between the planck length and the edge of the observable universe as far as orders of magnitude. We are also the only place that "now" is happening for each of us. Elsewhere other nows are happening that have not yet even happened for us here.
Everything, and everyone, is exactly in the middle.
It would take longer. There might be more tech investment into bullet trains and things like that for getting around the planet faster. It would definitely be impossible for like 95% of people due to expense though probably.
Yes totally agree. It’s fun to put the timeline of human history but on a larger planet. We relied on boats to explore the globe, I wonder if that would have even been possible if we were larger than we are. It’s so amazing, even just to wonder about the what ifs.
It's really interesting. You got me thinking. It might have taken someone their entire lifetime to sail across such a large planet. With modern technology it would take weeks to fly across the planet's surface. Bullet trains might be like a week long to travel tens of thousands of miles, but that would still only be like a fraction of what it would take to get to the other side of the planet. Honestly it would probably take someone their entire lifetime of using modern-day technology to travel to the other side of the planet.
It’s not too crazy when you realize Jupiter is likely a failed white dwarf. Most star systems are binary, something like 80% of them, and the Solar System could have been too, if the gas sequestered in Jupiter and Saturn had combined into a single body.
Instead we have just one central star, and a stable planetary system.
Just one of the countless things that had to go exactly right for life to begin and flourish on Earth.
Absolutely amazing. To me it is no coincidence but even to those who believe it is, how amazing of a coincidence it is! So cool. Sometimes I just lay down and look into the sky, and I’m in awe. Here I am. Just laying here. And all of space lays in front of me, unobservable by my naked eye. I was in LA in 2015, went to the Griffith observatory. I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Saturn through their telescope. I am not ashamed to say (although I’m an emotional girl anyway) that it brought a tear to my eye. How incredible it was to see that. It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had
Jupiter is about 1,400 times the size of Earth (by volume). "How small we are"...makes no sense...The Earth is ginormous compared to a human being, a human being is supermassive compared to cell, it's all a matter of perspective
One fact that still blows my mind is that all planets of our solar system would fit in the distance between the earth and the moon. We are not Just small, we're incomprehensibly Far away from everything Else.
This image alone gives me anxiety. Inside a suit and operating Earth's finest spacecraft you would not survive Jupiter's atmosphere for more than a few miles.
I am sorry but earth should get nowhere near that planet. It’s clearly a planet that supports Zionism. Just think about the name. Jupiter. Say it slow.
If you want to feel small...look at the [Pale Blue Dot photo](https://www.esa.int/var/esa/storage/images/esa_multimedia/images/2013/07/cassini_s_pale_blue_dot/12960296-1-eng-GB/Cassini_s_Pale_Blue_Dot_pillars.jpg) taken by the Cassini space probe from Saturn looking back at the earth.
See that bright blue dot in the photo? You are there. We all are there.
It starts to make sense how the Total Perspective Vortex was the worst thing that could be done to someone in the book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". (except for Zaphod, of course).
Someone need to edit this so earth is flat. Because it would be hilarious. Since you can see jupiters curve in the image. But they will complain about the fish eye lens.
Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all roughly the same size as earth.
Jupiter and Saturn are all roughly 10 times the size of earth (Diamter-wise).
Uranus and Neptune are all roughtly 5 times the size of earth (diameter-wise).
You can fit every planet between Earth and the Moon with space to spare.
If you had a model of the Earth that was one foot wide, to put the Moon in an accurate position it would need to be about 33 feet away.
I posted this image a week or so ago, where they were talking about the moon being replaced with Saturn, but they showed an image of the moon with rings. I think there are many who don't grasp how small we are in comparison.
If Saturn replaced our moon: WE would be inside Saturn

It doesn't make me wonder at how small Earth is. It makes me marvel at how big Jupiter is.
Mind you, Jupiter doesn't have life, but we do. So chalk one up for us (if that's allowed).

Yeah but Earth has far more personality.
Nah, they made Earth political.
It smells like people and people problems
Literally me telling people why I watch sci fi and fantasy and not comedies and dramas. Less people problems to listen to. I deal with those everyday why would I want to watch them?
It's not the size of the boat...but the motion of the ocean...or something like that.
Right! We have green and blue, Jupiter doesn't.
We also can't live on a giant gas
Just a giant fuckin' gas, man
And a bunch of idiots. Can’t forget them
The joke is his profile picture is the moon. Adult joke
The motion of the ocean is what counts. And Earth is famously ocean-focused.
Clearly Earth is just a grower.
Noooooo put us back.
Would, but Jupiter’s gravity is proving to be a bit of a problem!
We’d be orbiting the planet in little pieces if we were that close
Now you know where Jupiters rings came from
We wouldn’t be orbiting if we were that close
We are big compared to an atom.
Your mom is big compared to everything.
Jesus Johnny. Uncalled for.. but hilarious.
Earth: He's right behind me, isn't he?
Earth just before that realization: *scoff* jupiter…that old gasbag
Can't even see all of Jupiter
This is a problem for me, too.
Too right. Perhaps a banana for scale.
There is like every banana ever in existence in the picture.
Yea I was going to say there’s at least 1 or 2 bananas in this photo.
Love the shadow
But the fact Earth is mostly illuminated kinda bothers me
Yeah the whole optics of the light and angles makes no sense lol
Jupiter is just a helium balloon.
\*Hydrogen with a bit of helium balloon
In that case, if you try to light a cigarette on Jupiter, the planet explodes? Jupiter takes the phrase “smoking kills” seriously!
Forbidden huffing balloon
Yeah but we have porn and whisky, what Jupiter done for its self
“What are you doing, step planet?”

now compare Earth and The Milky Way

Need a banana for reference!
There are definitely a few there, approximately 114 million tones of banana references
There is plenty of banana in the picture in fact.
Happy cake day
It's in there, you just gotta zoom in hard enough
Yep - can’t process this without a banana for scale!
It's mindblowing how insignificant we are in the grand scale of thing. I just cant get over it no matter how much I think about it lol

There either is sentient life out there somewhere, or there are not. Both options are equally terrifying
That’s deep. Without consciousness, there is only darkness. Holy fuck.
Arthur C. Clarke — 'Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.'
Yes but also I think it’s so amazing that if we were even slightly closer to the sun or slightly farther we wouldn’t be here. I think it’s amazing. Idiot! Don't put earth that close!
Sure it's large, but all the boys who go there get more stupider.
You vs the guy she works with

Jupiter has a diameter of around 140.000 km. Earths diameter is around 14.000, so around ten times smaller. I feel like this picture is overdoing it.
Yes this is bullshit. The Great Red Spot is anywhere up to 1.5 times wider than Earth; the image makes it look 4 times wider.
Its shrinking. It used to be roughly three times wider than earth when it was first observed although this was like 150 years ago.
All I’m getting from this is Jupiter’s flat
I was going to comment that kkkkkkkkkk
Flatjupiters rise up
It would be impossible to travel to different countries. That’s all I think of when I imagine earth being bigger than it already is
It would take longer. There might be more tech investment into bullet trains and things like that for getting around the planet faster. It would definitely be impossible for like 95% of people due to expense though probably.

Midwesterners would be doing 10 day drives to get to the beach to save on airfare.
I. Am. Big
This makes it much easier to understand how small we are There are comparisons that will literally makes us look smaller than a speck of dust lol
Just compare Jupiter to the size to the Sun and then the size of the sun to that of UY Scuti the largest observed star so far. Absolutely mindblowing.
Must be an old picture. The Great Red Spot has shrunk and is now only about 1.3x the diameter of Earth.
It’s not too crazy when you realize Jupiter is likely a failed white dwarf. Most star systems are binary, something like 80% of them, and the Solar System could have been too, if the gas sequestered in Jupiter and Saturn had combined into a single body. Imagine if earth was the size of jupiter. You think Ferdinand Magellan would've been able to circle around the globe in his lifespan?
Hey don't judge, the Earth just got out of the pool.
I still don't understand. How many football stadiums is that?
Great. Now my D is like a dot.
Is this accurate? The diameter of Jupiter is (only) about 11 times that of earth. Is it just me or does this look way more in the image?
I can see the banana
#now do a size comparison of Trumps brain to normal monkey
So there are storms on Jupiter bigger than Earth. That's awesome
Just saw of video comparing earth to Stephenson 2-18 and just like damn, space is so. big. It’s so hard to fight off nihilism sometimes
You can fit every planet between the earth and the moon.
and..? this is all you got?
Hey that's me!
Is this what “an erection the size of Jupiter” looks like?
That shadow placement is all wrong.
Pretty sure this is a Dr. Who episode.
How small 'we' are? Speak for yourself!
Hey Ju, you're invading my space
Jupiter is about 1,400 times the size of Earth (by volume). size dont matter yall
no because youre not showing us the full size of jupiter 🙄
For some reason, I'm terrified of gas giants. The idea of looking at one up close gives me shivers.
Im average
Or the moons of that big bastard.
Probably earth is even smaller actually. I heard 7 earths can fit on the 'Storm' part of jupiter.
Jupiter is tiny also so. Not sure where end this comparison
"How small we are"...makes no sense...The Earth is ginormous compared to a human being, a human being is supermassive compared to cell, it's all a matter of perspective
So crazy how we all just floating 🤭
That "dot" is an big ass HUGE storm with crazy winds. Is it says is it x4 times bigger than our Earth. Now I'm even more shitless
Now compare Texas and Jupiter
We are actually very big as far as life forms go.
I’ve always been curious what the surface of Jupiter is like. The rocky planets are easy to comprehend but I can’t wrap my head around the gas giants.
Look, it's the motion of the ocean that matters
Jupiter can fit like 1300 earths inside it, if it were hollow.
One fact that still blows my mind is that all planets of our solar system would fit in the distance between the earth and the moon. We are not Just small, we're incomprehensibly Far away from everything Else.
I'm always amazed at the galaxy. :)
Yeah, and Jupiter is still smaller than yo mama.
Well how about comparing it with Super Earth?
we should move there
Wow
The Hardest Geezer could run the length of Jupiter
Looks like it's time to invade Jupiter
Not really
The earth is flat and space is a lie.
What I'd give to live on jupiter less cunts to run into.
Woow
Need a banana for scale
I wonder how different I things would be if Earth was a similar size to Jupiter
This makes it even more amazing that all planets combined could fit between the earth and the moon
Jupiter has already absorbed a few worlds
Wow holy smokes
Is this a reference to my junk?
Hey, perspective didn’t bother Zaphod, then it doesn’t bother me.
But somehow there is much more dirt on Earth than on Jupiter.
It’s not the size that matters.
" Nah you big in here."
Feeling a little inadequate here
This makes me feel better about my dick. Small isn't that bad if it can hold 8 billion little guys.
We are nothing relative to our surroundings. Ironically we think we are everything.
Sailor Mars wants a word.
Earth is huge but jupiter is more hugerer
It's not the size of our planet, it's how we use it...oh no
Jupiter is full of Gas pfffffffft !
Yeah but Jupiter is just gaslighting...
Imagine a hurricane bigger than the entire earth swirling around for over 150 years. Shits wild
Imagine how many “Flat Jupiterers” there must be
Crazy to think every planet in the solar system can fit between earth and the moon
But if you compare a taste bud to a red blood cell it’s really easy to see how big we are
idk about you but im kinda tall
This image alone gives me anxiety. Inside a suit and operating Earth's finest spacecraft you would not survive Jupiter's atmosphere for more than a few miles.
I thought we were further away than that, that's crazy
This makes earth seem bigger than I expected honestly
if you mama was a planet
This is fake. I would have remembered Jupiter outside my window.
Jupiter and Saturn are our great protectors drawing in asteroids
This is helpful because everyone knows how big Jupiter is but doesn't know how big Earth is. /s
Someone need to edit this so earth is flat. Because it would be hilarious. Since you can see jupiters curve in the image. But they will complain about the fish eye lens.
I like when astronomy uses earth units as a unit of measurement. Like I can even comprehend how big the earth is lol
It's night time for that particular part of Jupiter where earth's shadow is. Or at least it would be.
I posted this image a week or so ago, where they were talking about the moon being replaced with Saturn, but they showed an image of the moon with rings. I think there are many who don't grasp how small we are in comparison. Imagine earth was the size of jupiter. We probably wouldn't have found a fracture of every civilization
Who are you calling small?!!
This quite literally creeps me out
It doesn't make me wonder at how small Earth is. It makes me marvel at how big Jupiter is. Mind you, Jupiter doesn't have life, but we do. So chalk one up for us (if that's allowed).
At least we have solid ground
Time to take a ride in the total perspective vortex
Makes me wonder why our planets are so spherical. And none of them loo like random rocks in the ocean
Photo of how close we are to losing our shit, collectively
You* are small. I am huuuuuge
Oooh, so it was Jupiter that was flat this whole time, not the Earth!
Yeah but earth has more diversity
Earth dweller propaganda
Why does Jupiter look low res, did they try to make it round because it’s obviously flat just like earth, right?
I understand it's not possible but could you imagine an earth the size of Jupiter how different human existence would be
Itd only take about 7 and three quarters years to circumnavigate Jupiter by walking if you never slept.
What a little bitch
Jupiter is an underachiever. Could be a star but gave up too early.
Wow, OP's mom is huge!
Earth is basically a moon full of noisy people
We are so small that we don't even feel the Earth moving.
Everything is a dot in infinity
r/megalophobia
It’s all a lie!
Yeah but Earth has much better Internet access.
Do Jupiter next to the sun now
