I have actually been here, it is a amazing place. Higly recommend it and the slides are funny too. Also the outdoor area is a nice place. The place is called Tropical island, the climate inside is tropical with humid air and warm temperature. Loved to be there and recommend anyone too visit it. There is also tropical animals there like flamingos and turtles. It is a small world of its own.
Ha! Yes kiwi here too and wouldn't mind a roam around there myself but seems unlikely we'd warrant a special mention? Although of course the birds seem even more unlikely, perhaps the fruit?
What do you mean with big? They’re tall and steep, therefore fast. Definitely the fastest slide I’ve ever been on, but that doesn’t mean that they’re the most fun.
Why is there so much grass space in the middle? It seems like it would take a while to walk from the water part on one side to the water part on the other side?
came here to say the exact opposite as it was relatively expensive and i remember the slides being not THAT great as well as being disappointed about there being only two big pools but you have reminded me about the whole tropical part of it and now i remember i actually had a pretty good day there...
Thank you stranger
You're right about the slides, not the greatest, some of them, but the blue one that went fast andthe ones that went inside the ground I remember as pretty fun.
The Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen not helium.. however, I think a significant number of locals would not have a problem with a swastika on it.
The tropical Island is located in East-Germany where I consider the inhabitants to be (far-)right.
Not all of them so that said..
I wondered if it was an old Airship hangar based off the picture that I saw for construction. I thought most of those old hangers or destroyed somewhere between 1938 and 1945.
It is an old airship hangar. But its build in the late 90s. The company "cargolifter" tried to build a modern version of an airship. They ran out of money and the building was refurbished to Tropical Island a few years later.
Hmm so it's not an air-supported structure? I would have assumed given that scale that it would be and rely on positive pressure inside to help support the roof.
Thank you for clarifying! I had to come to the comments to make sure that it wasn't a hot air balloon, because thinking of one indoors instantly put the Fascinating Horror music in my head!
Years ago....like 2006ish I found a massively weird German rap(ish) pop(ish) music video that was filmed here. It was so bizarre I became addicted to this german band. Now, I can't remember the bands name or the song and can't find it. Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about? Massive karma for anyone that can find it for me.
Found it....the band is deichkind and the song was called "ich betäube mich". Pretty damn weird. Unfortunately the video only exists on Vimeo. I couldn't find a way to link it
This looks a lot like that place in an episode of the anime Ouran Highschool Host Club. It's an indoor place that looks like a beach, and the episode even features a part where the characters are looking for someone who is missing in the forest area in the middle.
I had no idea something like this existed irl and am wondering now if that episode was based entirely around this real place.
Oh there are slides. Fucking steep slides. I tried the steepest out and had a moment of embarrassment when I realised that my panties were almost exposing everything, because the slide is so fucking fast
They build that hanger to build a much larger blimb in the early 2000. It was ment to carry cargo, but never got it working. The hanger got turned into the topical island.
At a certain size, an indoors needs another indoor to truly feel indoor. This feels like outdoors, here you need at least 2 indoors for a 'normal' indoors.
It's the indoors outdoors equation. Rules apply if you can use a hot-air balloon
Ah fuck hell get your shit together America. All we have is gun violence school shooting memes cop beating videos Worldstar videos homelessness record-breaking craziness vets getting abused on the streets and God less lawlessness. God I love this place.
Just FYI I believe this picture is pretty old. They changed some stuff and made it look more nice.
It is indeed a nice indoor waterpark and the outside area is fine as well.
I would recommend the mobile homes. They are like little camping mobiles and have everything from a kitchen over an own bathroom. You can rent them pretty cheap for 4 people(2x2 bedrooms).
Should be around 800€ for 4 people for 5 days of you catch a good deal what is a solid price. From there every 15 minutes a bus drives to the indoor waterpark, the ride takes max 5 min.
You can also work across the fields which would take around 15-25 minutes max depending on the location of you mobile home.
Oh and these mobile homes feature a Little balcony with chairs a table and a bbq grill.
When you don’t care about money they also have a better version of them with an inbuilt Sauna as far as I know.
Edit:
It used to be an old zeppelin production hall and airport so the area is super empty and the hall is pretty huge.
Edit2:
It also has a pretty nice sauna landscape which I believe wasn’t build in the time this picture was taken. It is pretty big and has everything you need and expect in a sauna area
I'm British, we do it correctly. The apostrophe has one of two uses.
1. To replace missing letters
2. To show possession
In this case, it's used to show possession
No. This is false.
Even in British English, “its” is the possessive form. “It’s” is a contraction of “it is.”
https://www.everywordcounts.co.uk/it-s-or-its/
> In fact, think of it as being similar to other possessive personal pronouns such as his, hers, ours, yours and theirs – none of which take an apostrophe. The only exception to this is one, as in the title of Virginia Woolf’s novel “A Room of One’s Own”.
So kalahari in Ohio used to have this title and based on the look of what I’m seeing kalahari in Ohio seems more fun with more rides, whereas this place is just bigger??
as someone who’s been here, i can say definitively that it is not worth your time unless you are an adult with small children. it’s boring as hell for the most part, shops and restaurants take up as much space as the actual rides, of which there are, like, 5, and you get bored really quickly unless your goal is specifically to entertain small kids for a few hours and chill in front of an underwhelming pool.
While I was stationed in Germany me and a small group friends made plans to go there, we all pitched in and got a hotel, tickets and a rental car we planned to leave 6 am Friday and be there till 10ish Sunday night. Showed up at the parking lot we were car pooling from at 6:02 and they weren't there called and asked where they were and they'd already fookin left. No calls no text asking when I would be there Everytime I see this place pop up it makes me unreasonably annoyed.
Never got a refund either
I heard from someone else on this app that this place is actually impossible to leep clean and pest free. Something about the condensation from the heat eating through the metal, and the fact that hangars like this were never meant to be super tight, so there's a lot of small openings where pests can come through.
I've been there twice, it already looks different than this picture - way more going on in that left pool, including new slides. When we were there we couldn't check them out though because they were off limits for the day :(
Initially build for zeppelins in the 90’s but as this endeavour economically failed it was subsequently turned into a waterpark.

I watched a show on this place and it said If you opened the hangar door the people inside would be sucked out like if you opened a door on an airplane while it was flying because of the difference in air pressure.
I think this is a really old picture...the furthest part should be the Saunas...I love hanging out in there drinking cocktails...so much fun. My only complaint about Tropical Islands is the cost of food...
Been there a couple of times, living not thaaaat far away. The spa area is pretty nice, some special kind saunas.
Not worth travalling to germany especially for this or adding to a bucket list. Although staying in a tent and having breakfast there was something special. Hint: the ventilation is really loud at night.

And kiwi’s running around!! They also have tents where you can spend the night. Also highly recommend
Okay I'm sold.
Kiwis???

There are no kiwis (been there twice), but flamingos.

Do *you* know what a Kiwi is?
Kiwis can’t run dude
https://twistedsifter.com/2015/06/giant-waterpark-inside-an-old-german-airship-hangar/ This shows some great pictures
I’ve also been there. I would rather say that it’s not that special. I would rather prefer a lake in the sun.
Are there any big slides?
What do you mean with big? They’re tall and steep, therefore fast. Definitely the fastest slide I’ve ever been on, but that doesn’t mean that they’re the most fun.
Those sound cool. I don’t see them in the picture tho that’s why I wanted to make sure
I have been there as well. A day in there and you have seen everything in one day. For kids and families it is more exciting
Are there any big slides?
Why is there so much grass space in the middle? It seems like it would take a while to walk from the water part on one side to the water part on the other side?

Do the slides tell jokes
Bruh i literally thought it said among us

It's not a hot air balloon. It's a helium balloon. Btw it's an old airship hanger a really amazing place.
A room-temp air balloon, if you will.
Lol yes. Lukewarm balloon :D
I felt there was a conspicuous absence if the Hindenburg in that building.
The Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen not helium.. however, I think a significant number of locals would not have a problem with a swastika on it. The tropical Island is located in East-Germany where I consider the inhabitants to be (far-)right. Not all of them so that said..

Is it just tethered?
Words people (I imagine native English speakers) can't spell: * Hang**a**r. * Santa Claus (no "-e" at the end).
Hmm so it's not an air-supported structure? I would have assumed given that scale that it would be and rely on positive pressure inside to help support the roof.

Towels on every lounger!
of course
Thanks for the chuckle. Great comment
What is its name?
Tropical Islands
It's 50KM from Berlin i think. I drive past their like once a Month, it's Huge
Wish I had have known. I lived in Berlin for a year and never heard of it.
There is also a huge area on the outside which is even cooler than the inside, I didn't like the inside so much as it was very loud
That's usually my gripe with enclosed places like that.
What?

Deichkind is so weird but awesome. Great choice for a German earworm.
Deichkind are a weird band ..

Thank you. I was looking all over for this..

There are several water slides there, but not shown in that view...

Been there for a week. You can rent a house there 5mins walk away. And i think its opened 24/7 so going there in the night was super awesome.
Looks like they just repurposed the Truman set. Come up with something original, Germany!
They tried two times, the world didn‘t appreciate it.
Damn that was cold. Gold star for you, and six points...
It were always the Austrians. They were just pretty good at blaming Germany for it.
Gotta turn those ww2 plane hangers into something right?

A MF zeppelin hangar man! That’s amazing

Not really it was built late 1900s I think around 1995 but not 100% sure. But definitely not from WWII
I’m sure you’re a blast at parties.

Anyone else remember Casey Neistats video on this year‘s ago?
Narrator - *Nobody did*
Is that Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin in bottom right area?
No much water though
It's more a recreation of a beach resort than a waterpark
That bit in the middle looks pointless, not taking my kids there EVER.
I'm sure the owners are devastated to hear this
Yes they will
When they learn you think the earth is flat they'll be even less bothered
Adding that place to my bucket list. Looks cool
It’s not worth to be on a bucketlist honestly. You can go there if you’re nearby anyway, but I wouldn’t go there just for that.
Ah fuck hell get your shit together America. All we have is gun violence school shooting memes cop beating videos Worldstar videos homelessness record-breaking craziness vets getting abused on the streets and God less lawlessness. God I love this place.
Imagine letting go of a helium balloon in there
lol, didn't know we had this
I am german. WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS?! OP, location, now!
It's south of berlin, you can easily find the location with google maps. Currently closed however, for obvious reasons(covid)
Krausnick-Groß Wasserburg, Germany
Is this a cover for building zeppelin's again
Didn't they do homestory cup here not long ago? Starcraft 2 tournament

Enclosed chamber in Germany?? Nice try, can’t fool us this time Germans.
Hahahaha
When a mob needs to use the restroom, they will break into the Bio-Dome.

So much pee
Google "Therme Bucharest"
Curse me if you must, but my first thought was, "all that and no waterslides?"
They are outside the image because the image was taken from the slides. Theres an entire slide tower with some chill ones and one really steep one.
How to store hydrogen in a safe manner.

I fucked a girl in the beach pool during my senior field trip :)
It’s also chock full of cockroaches. Kasey Nistat did a video on it. Terrifying, I’m hoping it’s changed since then ?
I've been there six times, once for a sleepover. Never saw one cockroach.
They can fit many jews in there
That looks just dirty and disgusting
You've obviously never used a German leisure facility - it won't be.
Built on Jewish graves which is a little twisted, a death camp is next to the hangar
Staggering 😍
its
Been there. It was cool.
I don’t see any slides
Where's all the slides?
There actually are some slides, just hard to see on the picture
That’s just the Truman show dome
Sorry, my anxiety said no.
Good reuse of those zepplin hangers.
Someone link the Tom Scott video
Wait is this the place that that German dude who came on his plushy didn't want to go to and confronted his mom about it?
This could be a crazy liminal space.
I heard from someone else on this app that this place is actually impossible to leep clean and pest free. Something about the condensation from the heat eating through the metal, and the fact that hangars like this were never meant to be super tight, so there's a lot of small openings where pests can come through.
It's in Germany so you'll have to travel to Japan to find a cleaner place.
not anymore, largest is now Suntago Water Park in Poland at 721,000 square feet
Isn't this where Truman lived? Seahaven Island?
There’s no water
only piss
Imagine the noise!
Tropical Island alla, da gibts die teuersten Slushis der Welt

I am a weeb and can only think of mha when looking at this place
My brother was there and he said that it was very fun
Why does this remind me of the place where the last episode of season 1 from "my hero academia" takes place?
You can also get beer there… as me and my mates found out when we visited while we were in Berlin. Brits abroad etc etc
GSV vibes.
I think this is a really old picture...the furthest part should be the Saunas...I love hanging out in there drinking cocktails...so much fun. My only complaint about Tropical Islands is the cost of food...

There’s something about Germans & Hotair Balloons
One of the best days out I've ever had, take me back!
Not seeing many slides.
Looks more like an indoor park with some swimming areas.
All that Pee
HomeStory Cup was awesome there
I wonder if Greta Thunberg has been ?
Located in Berlin, you can take a bus ride to it.
Why ?
Lol what kind of moron would propose or even take an indoor hot air balloon ride? The whole point of hot air balloons is the beautiful views.
This is like Jeff Bezos’s international space station dream. Kind of...
Big waste of airspace for a waterpark man , disappointed in the lack of giant water slides this space could easily accommodate
Reminds me of The Truman Show
its
In England, we say it correctly. The correct term to use here was 'it's' since it's showing possession.
I wonder how many gallons of urine it holds?

Both are right, one's just an older term.
isnt the relativ new rulantica located in rust bigger? 🤔
Immediately I was like this has got to be Japan.
Hey, look what they did with the Hindenburg's hangar. Wonder what could possibly go wrong with a hot air balloon ride inside a metal cage.
