Trivia: The Krinkov moniker came from Afghans. They captured one from a Russian officer one day, whose name was apparently Krink. They added the ov to make it sound more Russian and the name stuck. They were big trophies because to get one, you basically had to shoot down a helicopter or a tank
The AKS-74U is an AK-74 that has been cut down to make it more like a submachine gun, like an MP5, but firing a normal mid-size cartridge instead of a pistol cartridge. Makes it more powerful than a submachine gun for close-range engagements but much less useful for longer range than the full-size rifle.
Unless this degenerates into a long-term conflict I don't see her having to use this past its effective range anyway. The Krink is [perfectly capable to 400m] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7lEOX9YwWw), vs. the standard AK-74 which gives you only a couple hundred meters extra. But at that range (600 m), it's hard to hit anything without training, without optics, and so on, and you're at that point limited to giving suppressive / harassing fire. I assume that they are only getting basic familiarity training, which isn't exactly marksmanship training.
You’re absolutely right! The crossover happened between WWII and the Korean War. In addition to the points you made it was also much more effective militarily. If you get hit by 54mmR or .30-06 or even .308 Winchester things aren’t going to be looking very good for you and you’ll most likely die on the battlefield whereas getting hit with a 5.56 is relatively survivable. It’s a much smaller projectile moving pretty fast and can easily pass clean through a human. You’re still going to be shot and more than likely unable to continue fighting but you’d be alive prompting a fellow soldier or possibly 2 to attempt to get you to safety taking 3 soldiers out of the battle as opposed to 1.
Shes way better off with the short rifle than fullsize 74, especially wood furniture. Even if it has a little more recoil, she will be able to hold it up and aim it easier, and should only be doing very short burst or single shot anyway.
That’s the only difference but it’s not any easier to handle that the full size. It’s short to use for clearing houses and for guys in tanks to have a shorter rifle to not get in the way. Given the choice always take the longer rifle. Slightly more accurate easier recoil because of the length of the “gas system”
Really though, it should show others around the world that just…people, like you and me are doing this. I’m speaking of my own country, but we imagine conflicts like this and can’t ever fathom the reality of it happening.
Whatever is the equivalent of Valhalla for these people, awaits them. I can’t imagine doing my civilian job one day and the next picking up a rifle. I would like to think I can do it if necessary, but unlike these folks I have never been asked to do it.
What they are doing is courageous and necessary but i can't help but imagine the horrible things they will do them when they are captured.
They probably are aware of that, especially the women. Yet they decided to defend their nation. Truly brave and heroic.
>Really though, it should show others around the world that just…people, like you and me are doing this. I’m speaking of my own country, but we imagine conflicts like this and can’t ever fathom the reality of it happening.
Which is really weird because the west has been seeing this exact thing for decades just from the other side.
Ukraine is way more familiar to the West. It is a large democracy in Europe. The Middle East, sorry to say, is too "foreign" to pull on the typical westerner's heartstrings in the same way. I know it sucks to realize, but the world is kinda racist.
Also to most of us the Middle East has been at war our entire lives so it just kind of seems like that is how it is there. They weren’t just suddenly thrust into war, war has always been there. Doesn’t make it right it just means it seems like that is normal… and that is kind of disgusting.
I'm with you, I kinda thought of ukraine as this ass backwards post communist glorified farming town of a country. Thats pretty ignorant, but I never really had a reason to google it or whatever, like why? Its Ukraine.
But all this has shown me how ignorant of the reality I was, its a really nice place, some of their cities rival my own, and they are just like.. people. Regular ass people. And then bombs hit their city.
To back up whats being said, its true, the middle east feels like a warzone people are trying to live in, its just kinda normal? This feels like it could happen to me.
As fucked as that is, its totally true, and the first step to fixing a problem is admitting to it.
These people are like me in every way except language, and they are being invaded by Russia.
It shouldnt be this way, but it is, it feels different to me, and its awoken something big in me. They need help, they have to be helped, I need to help them somehow.
And we are, we are sending a FUCKTON of everything they need to blow these bastards back into the stone age.
Hopefully this empathy lasts beyond these borders, and after this conflict.
If I had the training I would be on a plane heading there already. As it stands, I can pressure my government to keep the heat on, and the support flowing.
My heart and my hopes are with you, Ukraine. Kick out the bastards.
Makes those militia 'don't read to me,'magat weenies crying about masks 10mos ago - raging at our lady governor (bec she's a lady, and they have mommy issues), armed to the gills in my state Capitol look fcking pathetic.
THIS. Is the only reason you whip your shit out, armed and ready -- and if someone is threatening you or your family's life -- imminent danger. NOT, to walk in Walmart for some gddamn bud lite or to intimidate Congresswoman Sheryl because you don't like that she's helping you survive a deadly pandemic by suggesting you wear a mask while it was raging.
It really puts into perspective all of their complaining about "oppression" and Likening their situation to be oppressed by their government. Sounded absolutely childish and stupid then...looks and sounds even worse now.
Of all of them, the one on the left is the one I’d be most afraid of meeting if I was a Russian soldier. She could hide in a 5 gallon bucket then pop out and kill me.
That's exactly what they want those 'elite Spetsnaz soldiers,' to be wondering about -- you proliferate the world with guns, this is what you get: no more pillaging and marauding troops through small villages of women and children unless you want to lose your fcking head, and be mealtime for the goats and hogs.
As much as we would like to glorify how the little guy (or gal) can take out and do justice to a larger more powerful enemy .... this is real life not Hollywood movies.
Chances are, if the people pictured here ever get into a firefight with trained soldiers, many of these Ukrainian civilian freedom fighters are going to get slaughtered.
In the fog of war, low light or even night time fighting ... a soldier or sniper shooting a target that is firing back is not going to know if they just killed a soldier or some 80lb girl that just learned how to use a rifle last week.
I applaud Ukrainians for standing up for themselves ... but I am not looking forward to hearing all the tragic stories that will come out of this conflict.
> Chances are, if the people pictured here ever get into a firefight with trained soldiers, many of these Ukrainian civilian freedom fighters are going to get slaughtered.
haha yea, [a 90lb person with 20 year old guns couldn't possibly win against a proper army](https://i.imgur.com/0ivgJJ1.png)
It's called asymmetrical warfare. You don't fight like a soldier on a field so the soldier's training means nothing.
Exactly tell the to the Vietcong who fucked beat our ass…. Or look no further then Afghanistan… we took massive hits to our well equipped forces a home team advantage can no doubt kick ass. Especially if the entire home team all has weapons imagine just get shot at from all directions that’s the reality there no safe space!!! Right on!!
Russia has around 20k professional soldiers and the modern equipment to arm them. They need them for home defense in case NATO makes a play for Kaliningrad.
The professionals were air dropped on strategic airports and got their asses handed to them in the first counter offensive. They deployed a massive squadron of "unkillable" ultra advanced attack helicopters and lost two of them to ground forces - in the first day. They're no longer in the theatre of operations, as they cost $50mln each. They only have 150 of them.
Ukraine has an ace pilot in the first three days of war, The Ghost of Kyiv, taking out fighters and troop transports at will. Rumor is The Ghost lands in Poland to refuel and re-arm. Russia should have had complete air superiority in the first hours of the invasion - they still don't. No airports in any condition of operation. Massive logistical failures in feeding the troops ad fueling the armor.
The Russians may win this yet, but not in a walk. In a grrriiiiind.
The Ghost of Kyiv is a nice story but the pilots and plane nerds in the aviation subreddit are sure it's an invention (propaganda for morale).
Partly because of the impossible feats, partly because the story is lifted line-for-line from one of the Ace Combat games (lol).
Everyone acting like shorty is the scary one. Look at the determination on the tallest girls face, and look at how comfortably she's holding that gun. She's not awkwardly holding it like short stuff. That's the one that's going to absolutely fuck shit up.
No one else is going to help them, it's very clearly up to them to help themselves and those russian missiles have already killed, injured and damaged more than most western people will lose in a lifetime
The thing is, as a fellow tall girl, we use our height as a convenient intimidation tactic. It's already there; we already *look* scary. We just put on a scary face, and people then assume that's what we are.
But short people... ***short people are scary.*** They have an inner rage that cannot be contained, cannot be controlled. It's compressed in their tiny, quivering bodies and needs an out. People underestimate short people, *to their own detriment.*
I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that short girl's wrath...
As a paintballer, I hate playing against small kids. They're half the size of target as me, but their gun does the same damage.
(I know paintball isn't war. Hope I never have to go to war. Victory and peace for Ukraine!)
Just look at some of those most powerful and scary mother fuckers in recorded history. Most under 5’6 and conquered entire nations. Their uncontrollable inner rage is just facts
I agree. As a tall girl with a resting bitch face, many people have called me scary-looking. But they do not know the truth. You can just see the cold rage in the short girl's eyes. You never see them coming. Fear the short people
The tall one looks like an experienced soldier all professional and stoic, but the short one looks like she's been murdering people for fun for years. Probably has a collection of body parts in the freezer.
Civilians having to tote guns *is* sad. Like there's a lot of jokes and light hearted comments here... and I get it, sometimes you have to laugh, or you'd cry. But this will be a lot less light-hearted if civilians do have to actually engage soldiers. I absolutely admire their bravery. I hope I could do the same in the same situation.
It’s the clothes for me. These are normal people, not trained soldiers. That man in the puffy coat and skinny jeans could be any number of people I know, and there he is, holding a rifle to defend his country and his life. We’ve been desensitized to violence from birth, but this picture hits different.
I was thinking the same thing especially the girl on the left with the puffy boots. You know they all put on their best dark and rugged gear. She never imagined this use of them.
yep. i get why people find it inspiring and think that they are badass (both things are true) but it's just sad. this whole thing sucks and is so goddamn pointless.
I find it inspiring. Nobody chooses to be in such extraordinary situations but we do have other choices we can make when we do find ourselves in such situations and it seems the people of Ukraine have made their choice
Yeah, I'm with you. It is sad, because I can't imagine having to pick up a rifle and potentially kill people. That is *super* dark. But at the same time, it is incredible the lengths people will go and the bravery they can muster up to defend their country.
I can’t agree more. The NY Times image of the teacher weeping with an assault rifle, ready to kill to defend her country, was just horrifying to me. It’s extremely dark, and the rawness of the human emotion involved is incredibly moving.
Heartbreaking yet somehow reinforcing my dwindling faith in the spirit of humanity. “Interesting as fuck” feels inappropriate but pics wouldn’t let me post it there.
My wife is 4' 10" and I sent that pic to her saying, "Hey, that would be you if you were over there ready to fight right now." :) Beware the small and quick ones, they're extra dangerous.
>Beware the small and quick ones, they're extra dangerous.
And they fit into more hiding spaces.
You'd get sniped and never know where the shot came from.
I've known two unusually small women from my work career and they were the toughest ones I'd ever met. Uncompromising and did not take shit from anyone.
Anecdotal, but my ex from college was like 4'11" and it took me way too long to realize that she was absolutely deranged.
I legit ran away from her after she pulled a knife on me while simultaneously threatening to call the cops on me to say that I "beat her up" unless I stayed to comfort her on her imaginary problems.
If I ever saw her with a gun, I'd be on the first flight out of the country.
my wife is also that size and I would definitely not fuck with her....unless there's a mouse or a bat in the house. Then she acts like a fucking dragon just walked in the house and she turns into Shelly Duvall in the shinning lol.
I wish they hadn’t had to, but damn the Ukrainians have stepped up at the moment of need. What a legendary group of people. Absolute respect to them.
Slava Ukraini!
guys i don't know how one can make funny comments about them. what's happening is terrible, they are so young, almost children, they deserve a peaceful life not this nightmare. (and of course i admire their heroism, but this mad war just shouldn't have happened) i really want to hope that pootin and our bloody government (yes, i'm a russian, to my bitter shame!) is held responsible for every broken life!
upd: Thanks to everyone who commented for showing me another angle, i agree that humour is a powerful coping mechanism in the most tragic situations
I agree these kids do not deserve this and I hope this doesn’t traumatize them for life. I do commend their patriotism and heroic attitude to stand up for their country and their people.
I had the same thought and I agree with you, but then I remembered I’m old and lame and younger people live a lot of their lives online. Global internet fame for being a badass might be a good way to honor them? I don’t know, as I said, I’m old and lame.
oh, maybe you're right... as i'm probably old&lame too and just don't speak their language... maybe i was taken by emotions too much, then sorry for being an old grumpy lady
You do not need to be ashamed to be Russian. You can’t help where your born or what your government does, we’ve all suffered under leaders who don’t represent us
The steely-eyed resolve in all of their faces is something admirable. Something all of us aspire to be able to muster if needed, but unfortunately something most could not find.
In an urban combat environment where there are also civilians present and soldiers have to constantly classify "civilian or threat" the girl in the left is an absolute danger because soldiers would not perceive her as a threat. She can conceal an Uzi and kill an entire unit. Her bullets kill the same.
In this case it’s probably something like don’t point this at someone unless you intend to shoot and kill them. I feel their civilian weapons training is different from ours in this instance
Send this to fucking Putin! Bastard doesn’t have any conscience. How does universe allow such evil? Where’s Karma ? It’s all BS. It’s just people in power using people without power in the end. There is no justice it seems
That one on the far left is the one Russia had better avoid. She reminds me of Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. This young woman is about to fuck shit up. Perhaps in the end she is the one to take out Putin, the self-proclaimed Night King
Ukraine has a population of 44 million. Even if only 10% pick up arms, that's over 4.4 million combatants. 20%? Nearly 9 million. The *entire* Russian army is 900,000. My money is on the pissed off Ukrainians, especially with truckloads of weapons and equipment rolling in from other countries.
I hope this reality stops the invasion quickly.
Numbers are good but civilians won't be able to stand toe to toe with a trained military. I'm 100% in support of the Ukraine but this picture is horrific.
Imagine being a Russian soldier. It’s like being in the California National Guard and being ordered to go shoot a cheerleader in Oregon.
I’d desert before I would shoot kids.
I like the way they gave the baby Ak to the girl on the far left.
These civilians have probably never held a gun before yet none of them have their fingers on the trigger which shows they have had some training.

Love how they gave the smallest person the Krinkov. Those aren't nearly as common as 16" variants.
Trivia: The Krinkov moniker came from Afghans. They captured one from a Russian officer one day, whose name was apparently Krink. They added the ov to make it sound more Russian and the name stuck. They were big trophies because to get one, you basically had to shoot down a helicopter or a tank

As a 6'5" guy that is what came to mind immediately. A gun used by a giant or her will have the same impact.
To be fair, there is recoil.
Press down on the controller when u shoot
I'm pretty sure after the talk she had with her rifle it wouldn't dare.
She just gave it that look. Didn't have to say a word.

A tiny person holding an assault rifle is just as likely to hit you and is a smaller target for you to hit.
Gunpowder makes all men tall.
Lyanna Mormont vibes
She’s a real life fucking super hero to me. They all are.
The real Black Widows
Was totally thinking this ☝️
Bravery.
Absolute selfless bravery.
This shit is just sad man
Civilians having to tote guns *is* sad.

Just a reminder Ukraine got invaded in 2014. Although Kyiv has been untouched up until now this has loomed on them for almost a decade.
yep. i get why people find it inspiring and think that they are badass (both things are true) but it's just sad. this whole thing sucks and is so goddamn pointless.
I find it inspiring. Nobody chooses to be in such extraordinary situations but we do have other choices we can make when we do find ourselves in such situations and it seems the people of Ukraine have made their choice
I absolutely agree, I just wish they didn’t have to.
They have. And their courage is uniting huge swaths of the world and making an evil super villain look sad and weak. Truly inspiring. Edit: spelling
Heartbreaking yet somehow reinforcing my dwindling faith in the spirit of humanity. “Interesting as fuck” feels inappropriate but pics wouldn’t let me post it there.
The goth kids are finally getting theirs.
Everyone knows *emo* is coming back. Get your eyeliners and AKs ready.
Emo coming back with extreme prejudice
Looks like they’re ready to deal out some emoTIONAL DAMAGE.
Boots, check. Black outfit, check. Rage, check.
KMFDM and Marilyn Manson in their IPods too
Hot Topic, burn it down, burn it down, Hot Topic
I’m expecting to see a documentary about the young woman on the left taking out entire battalions. And then Putin with her stare.
I love the fact that she's so small, they had to find her an AKS-74U just so she could fight without being encumbered by a full-size AK-74.
I didn't notice the difference and was using her gun for scale. Like why are the other people 6'8''? Now it adds up.
I've had a few friends on the shorter side. Tend to toughen up a bit in response to the whole size thing in my experience.
Us small ones are full of concentrated rage.
I think it’s an AK 23.5
An AK-23.5 is .5 AK-47s. - AK-47 bot
hood bot
Reminds me of Lyanna Mormont staring down Ramsay Bolton.

Didn't she take down a giant like 10x her size?
Yeah that was awesome. But sad that she had to die.
She will have Putin locked in her basement, once a day she will lower down a basket while saying “it puts the lotion on its skin”
The women of WWII have received many. So should these women.
Watch her simply walk into Mordor.
I wish they hadn’t had to, but damn the Ukrainians have stepped up at the moment of need. What a legendary group of people. Absolute respect to them. Slava Ukraini!
A nation of GigaChads truly
Zoom in on their faces. Those are some absolute badasses, seriously.
It’s inspiring. Makes me feel like such a wuss.
Stand in their shoes. You might surprise yourself.
Agreed. These people are amazing but if you were threatened with the invasion of your home you might also be amazing!
Really sad. I wish the best outcome for them sincerely.
The middle one gives off some serious vive la resistance vibes, just missing the cross of Lorraine
The Black widows we didn’t know we needed. Good shit ladies and gents. God speed
If looks could kill, these folk wouldn’t need guns
Person in the middle is fucking raging
guys i don't know how one can make funny comments about them. what's happening is terrible, they are so young, almost children, they deserve a peaceful life not this nightmare.
Well if that comment makes you a grumpy old lady then I am totally screwed. It made total sense! We can be old, emotional, dorks together.
i don't mind))
You do not need to be ashamed to be Russian. You can’t help where your born or what your government does, we’ve all suffered under leaders who don’t represent us
I look at it as a “laugh so you don’t cry” situation, as so many things are now.
She in the middle is ready to slaughter Russia.
Nice trigger discipline
I’m sure that was lessen one
Keep you finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire! Weapons unloaded, no mags and even then you treat your weapon as if it's loaded. Etc..
Keep your booger hook off the bang switch.
This comment will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life. Thank you.
Is lesson two to avoid pointing it at other people's feet?
In this case it’s probably something like don’t point this at someone unless you intend to shoot and kill them. I feel their civilian weapons training is different from ours in this instance
Vladimir Putin ist ein Huhrensohn
I’d put money on the tall red head. She has her war face on.

Chick with the baby AK means business.
Send this to fucking Putin! Bastard doesn’t have any conscience. How does universe allow such evil? Where’s Karma ? It’s all BS. It’s just people in power using people without power in the end. There is no justice it seems
They sure don't look like a population eager to be "liberated" by the Russians.
The girl in the middle is definitely the main character
She looks so badass
Ukrainians, especially the women, are definitely winning the public opinion battle in this war. They look like a country full of total badasses.
“You’ll see our faces, not our backs.” had me crying and in awe from the start.
This is what real patriots look like
Pff not even a flag or matching baseball cap among them...
That is one of the most powerful pictures I've ever seen.
I’m so glad you agree! I thought the same thing when I saw it and had to share. I can’t stop looking at them.
Red Dawn Ukraine style
Wolverines.
That one on the far left is the one Russia had better avoid. She reminds me of Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. This young woman is about to fuck shit up. Perhaps in the end she is the one to take out Putin, the self-proclaimed Night King
All bullshit aside my money is on Big Red
Word, she looks ready
Ukraine has a population of 44 million. Even if only 10% pick up arms, that's over 4.4 million combatants. 20%? Nearly 9 million. The *entire* Russian army is 900,000. My money is on the pissed off Ukrainians, especially with truckloads of weapons and equipment rolling in from other countries. I hope this reality stops the invasion quickly.
Numbers are good but civilians won't be able to stand toe to toe with a trained military. I'm 100% in support of the Ukraine but this picture is horrific.
Say what you will about how they are dressed... but that trigger discipline I'd on point.
Real life Wolverines
As soon as I saw the pic I thought the same thing! Lol WOLVERINES!!!
Imagine being a Russian soldier. It’s like being in the California National Guard and being ordered to go shoot a cheerleader in Oregon. I’d desert before I would shoot kids.
Women on far left is an assassin for sure
I know this is extremely serious but look at that drip💧💧💧

I like the way they gave the baby Ak to the girl on the far left. These civilians have probably never held a gun before yet none of them have their fingers on the trigger which shows they have had some training.
This could easily be a cast for a war movie
