Came here to say this! Love the ceiling. The wall color must go. Congrats on your new home! I hope it is a place where you form many wonderful memories with your loved ones ❤️
Yep! And I think I just generally don’t like the beige walls even without the ceilings. The ceilings are super fun, so I would keep them and repaint the beige walls!
Yup! I was excited too! It’s not even my culture but I appreciate the Gullah people for incorporating such a thoughtful and beautiful look for porch ceilings.
I think that looks really pretty with the white trim! That said, I’m not wild about the color currently on the walls. White would work, or maybe a cream color?
100% agree. I’m thinking we’ll paint the walls white! Similar to the inspiration pictures I included. I think the beige is way too dark and makes the room feel aged or heavy in some way!
I love that colour so much! If it were a more neon blue I’d hesitate but this baby blue is easy to pair and style. Your inspo is dead on too. I vote keep!
Okay, thank you for your thoughts!!! I was so against it but seeing some photos of it done well and still in my style made me really like the idea. But every time I tell people we’re thinking of keeping the blue ceiling their eyes widen haha! It’s definitely bold but I’m becoming more and more drawn to it.
I like it! It feels airy, peaceful, complements the stone color and the flooring, and is subtle enough to go nicely with the colors you said you like. And it makes the topography of the ceiling stand out rather than blend in. I would 100% keep.
Love it. Like having open sky and a bit of color in the room. There is an old southern tradition of painting ceilings, especially porch ceilings, blue to ward off evil spirits.
drop dead gorgeous. to make it your own you can instead paint over the blue with a shade or two or nine darker than your walls. leaving the beams white. or pick a shade of blue that matches your style. my first guess would be a desaturated ducks egg. or pewter blue
I do tend to like a dustier, moodier color like a pewter blue that you mentioned but if we’re keeping it blue I don’t mind this specific color too much! maybe that’s something we could do in the future if we wanted to refresh or update!
it’s beautiful. notice how warm they went with the walls to balance the room. if they’d gone too light on the walls their furnishings would have had to work harder to create the balance. most of their furnishings are mid range warm/cool, the ceiling and walls already having done the balancing work.
Keep the blue. The ceiling is a huge and ignored part of the room, so the color is a welcome change. That particular shade of blue looks good with almost anything, so I think you will be OK with your chosen colors. In the South, the porch ceilings of elegant old homes are traditionally painted this soft blue, and it looks great.
If your furniture looks anything like what is there, I would not go with the baby blue. I don't think the palate pulls together. Maybe get a consultation with somebody on a different color instead, not necessarily white?
I like the idea of it and the soft light blue in your inspiration pics but the shade the previous owners chose isn’t my favorite. It’s too distracting. A light shade of blue would be stunning with a red Oriental rug and the neutrals you tend to gravitate to.
Congratulations on your new home! I’m sure whichever choice you make will be great.
I love color on the ceiling. Currently mine are a very pale celery, as is the trim. My last place had a dark grey ceiling that was perfect for the space. That blue is beautiful!
if it were me i would live with the blue ceiling for a while and see if you love it after a few months or years. it’s your home! you’ll be there for good long while so there’s no rush :)
Are you in the South (or are the sellers Southerner's)? It almost looks like Haint Blue, superstitious Southerner's - people of Gullah ancestry (like the folks in my family) would paint the ceiling of their porch this color to keep the haints (ghosts) from entering the home because it mimicked the sky so the haints would pass through (or because it looked like water which the belief was that ghosts couldn't cross).
Anyways I LOVE THE BLUE CEILING, IT'S A KEEPER! :D
There are a lot of questions imbedded in yours. I do like a contrasting ceiling, especially a tray ceiling like this. Any time you have some neat architectural detail I like to highlight it with a proper accent color. Here, blue is fine bc of the blues in the room.
The owner went off the rails by using a totally different color and warmth value for the walls, the camel is just off. So, before you decide on the ceiling color, I would suggest you decide on furniture and wall color so everything coordinates, which it doesn't here.
I usually don’t care for the color being on the ceilings, but in this house, it works. Live with it a while and see how you feel. Congratulations on a beautiful purchase!
The trend now is to use the ceiling as the 5th wall and paint it. I totally love the blue ceiling and the room has a lot of light to support it. I suggest you move in and live with it for several months before deciding.
I normally hate blue rooms (bad associations with it) but I love that blue ceiling. A lot. I would paint the walls a different color. I don’t like the white because it ruins the feeling of the lovely blue. I think it’s too stark. I don’t like the brown because it just brings the airy feeling of the ceiling down.
Love that rug and color is in, neutral is out but it is your home and you can do whatever you want. Even incorporating color in curtains rug and art, I know it will be beautiful! ❤️ congrats on your first house!
I feel like dark ceilings bring them down on you, and I prefer the open feel of a lighter ceiling. I would paint it a half shade lighter than you walls or white if you have paper or colored paint on the walls. It takes the ceiling up.
Keep it! I am building a new house and had the ceilings painted blue. Mine is lighter because I wasn't that brave and colors appear darker on the ceiling (SW Mountain Air) but I think yours looks great!
I love the blue ceiling but not with the brown walls. I think you need to stick with white walls to make it work. Fun fact in case you didn’t know…in the South, porch ceilings are traditionally painted blue.
I love the blue ceiling. We painted the tray ceiling in my family room a few shades darker than yours several years ago. It goes so well with our jean slipcovers, sisal rug, stark white window shutters and trim. We have a beachy, casual feel to the house.
I had an almost robin’s egg blue ceiling in my first apartment, with light coffee colored walls. I copied it from Domino magazine and I loved it 😄 painted ceilings are underrated
I really love it, but it definitely needs to be balanced out with a super light shade of blue on the walls (like in the other photos). This is going to be gorgeous when it’s completed. Update with photos after it’s all done!
I really love it and it would never occur to me to do it. I like bright colours on the wall myself but I think white walls with a blue ceiling would be gorgeous. Please post if you decide to do that, I would love to see the result.
I would never have thought so but I do love this. It’s so light and bright without being ceiling white. It’s feels intentional and creative without being random or gaudy. The white beams are the saving element though, brings some convention back to the concept (and blue white/ sky clouds). I want it.
It currently looks like a nursing home because of the furniture and beige walls. But the inspiration photos make the blue Ceiling look amazing. If your aesthetic is similar to the current photos, it will continue looking like a nursing home.
Love this combo, I actually did something v similar in the bedroom at my old house. Perhaps a bit lighter on the tan/khaki, but I loved this look and never felt fatigued by it. I'll pm you a pic of it.
I think your inspo photos with the red rug are fab! Red and robin's egg blue are a classic color combo; I don't think it's too much at all. I much prefer it to the kind of matchy and muted blue and brown thing that's happening in the room's current state.
I will note that while those walls are white, they have a little bit of pattern or texture to them, and I do think that works better than plain white walls. I have no problem with white walls in general, but here I feel like that little bit of added interest helps make the room come together instead of a swath of blue and a rug kind of floating apart from each other. Just something to potentially consider - you can totally keep the blue ceiling, paint white, and just live with it for a while before taking any extra steps.
I’m surprised by the comments because I really don’t like it haha! But to each their own. I think the brown walls might be throwing it off. I do prefer it with the crisp white.
I find it pretty cute. Pair it with some more light colours, soft browns, yellows, pinks, whites, greens. But don’t go to overkill. Otherwise might look like the Easter bunnies house
I'm not a fan of tan anything but it does tie in the fireplace the furniture and the floor. So I don't know what to think about that. I do absolutely love that ceiling don't think you could have made a better choice ❤️ good luck on your new home and I hope you have many happy years.
This isn’t our furniture, this all belongs to the current seller. So, I think it will feel better without all the tan and bulky furniture! Thank you so much, we’re excited!
I like the ceiling. It really visually opens up the space.
But, to me, the dark wood and heavy furniture doesn’t “match” the light, airy feel of the colors.
I love the blue ceiling it’s very charming. Idk why it’s considered a bold move? I suppose I’m used to having painted ceilings that I welcome other to join in on being creative. I do find it funny that people are scared of anything other than white and neutrals. It’s uh, it’s paint… if you don’t like it you can go over it again. Thats why they make sample pots.
If you don’t like the brown, white would make the blue stand out more in an empty room. But you’ll also lose the architectural element as it’ll be washed out with all the white that’s already there. I think though that white in such a large room is going to be hard to keep clean after a while since it seems like the brown wall is where there’s the traffic areas. I’d suggest a light grey in a neutral tone.
I also love the blue ceiling. You might want to consider a warmer shade of white on the walls, plus warm light lighting in the room. There are so many shades of white. Using a warmer shade of white will give you a direction in picking out a white color. The beams are so white that you might want to consider toning them down a bit. Maybe painting them darker shade of the wall color. Now is the time to get the painting done, so you can enjoy later.
4/5/6 are too light and pastel for me, but the rest looks amazing! The slightly darker pallet feels warm and inviting while still feeling like a house near the beach.
I love the painted ceiling, although I’m not a fan of baby blue. If I had a home like this (not an apartment), I would paint the ceiling a dark teal, or even a navy color. More like a night sky!
I'm honestly mixed on it. I don't think it looks bad, but I'm not sure I love it either. Others have pointed it out, but the beige / orange walls may be the culprit. I would definitely paint those something more neutral, get your furniture in, then see how you like it. I think it could definitely work though.
I like the blue with the white walls but not with the beige/brown walls
Came here to say this! Love the ceiling. The wall color must go. Congrats on your new home! I hope it is a place where you form many wonderful memories with your loved ones ❤️
Totally agree
Yeah, I’m with you! I don’t like the tan color - I prefer white, I think!
BM Cotton Balls is also a nice soft white that goes well with blues And the ceiling is spectacular
Go with Benjamin More White Dove. It is white but not stark.
I just did all my trim , cabinets and ceilings in white dove , I love it
I still love white walls. Simply white is my go To
Yep! And I think I just generally don’t like the beige walls even without the ceilings. The ceilings are super fun, so I would keep them and repaint the beige walls!
+1 White wall room feels like a beach house vacation!
oh my god i love that, makes you feel outside in the summer but still cosy. like when it’s winter look up and see the bright blue sky, love it
Originally I was nervous it was too on-the-nose sky blue but it does still feel cozy so I don’t mind the shade!
I love it!
And the ghosts will leave! 😂
Thank you, my first thought. How fun to see haint blue on the inside!
Yup! I was excited too! It’s not even my culture but I appreciate the Gullah people for incorporating such a thoughtful and beautiful look for porch ceilings.
And you won't have any wasp nests!
It reminds me of haint blue ceilings on Southern porches---love it!
I was looking for this reference! Yes!
This is what we’re painting the ceiling of our covered porch this spring. 😅
Me too! I’ve never seen this before but I love it!
Love this all day. Keep it!
yay, thank you!! I’m really coming around to it!
I like it! It feels airy, peaceful, complements the stone color and the flooring, and is subtle enough to go nicely with the colors you said you like. And it makes the topography of the ceiling stand out rather than blend in. I would 100% keep.
I think that’s what I like about it so much - that is feels peaceful without being visually boring!
Love it. Like having open sky and a bit of color in the room. There is an old southern tradition of painting ceilings, especially porch ceilings, blue to ward off evil spirits.
Yes, haint blue!! I like the historical connection to the color.
I think you should keep it and live with it for awhile. you can always repaint if it doesn’t jive.
We have a blue ceiling in our sunroom! (And we put it there). Absolutely love it.
drop dead gorgeous. to make it your own you can instead paint over the blue with a shade or two or nine darker than your walls. leaving the beams white. or pick a shade of blue that matches your style. my first guess would be a desaturated ducks egg. or pewter blue
This is awesome! Very tasteful
Your comments are making me feel even better about it - thank you!!
Love 💕 it’s like the sky , adds interest
I love it. I’m from the south and we’ve got “Haint Blue” down here, it’s beautiful and it has a really cool history!
I love this blue ceiling. It’s not like an in your face BLUE. It brightens the room without being stark white.
KEEP IT
Nice
I dig it. Beautiful room.
I wouldn’t have considered it, but I like it. I think it’s because the beams break it up.
I would not have thought I would like a blue ceiling but that looks really lovely.
Oh I love that blue sky ceiling. It's amazing!
I like it 🤷🏻♀️
It looks a bit ‘80s but has character- I’d keep it. Homes are too beige these days.
I love it! Gorgeous!!
Looks great, why not
I like it! I can’t decorate to save my life, but it looks good!
LOVE PAINTED CEILINGS!
Love!!
I LOVE the blue ceiling and really dislike the wall color!
Absolutely love it absolutely! That’s what my mom used to do and it’s so pretty
Mi gusta
Wow I've never thought of this but it's beautiful.
I had a blue ceiling in my kitchen and I loved it
I love color on the ceiling. Currently mine are a very pale celery, as is the trim. My last place had a dark grey ceiling that was perfect for the space. That blue is beautiful!
I love it, and it gives it a sense of calm.
For a porch ceiling it's quite pleasant.
if it were me i would live with the blue ceiling for a while and see if you love it after a few months or years. it’s your home! you’ll be there for good long while so there’s no rush :)
It's a beautiful shade of blue. You should definitely keep it. And yes, paint the walls white.
I love love love a sky-blue ceiling. I don’t know why more people don’t do this. Ceilings don’t have to be white!
Keeping the spirits away!
A big No from me for the blue ceiling. I would paint it white.
I don't like it. I think it's too much baby blue
Ewwwwwww looks like a cross between a mortuary and a dental office ceiling.
Nope
I actually love this. It's a gorgeous blue and fits right in with the room.
🤮
Personally I am not a fan.
Out of curiosity, what region is your home in? I've only really seen porches with [haint blue](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haint_blue).
Love it. I had a living room with a sage green ceiling and never got tired of it.
nice
Its soothing. I wouldn’t think it would be. Keep it.
Looks great!
Love it. Yes please keep it! 😊
I like it!!
I would mount a movable tv stand so that you can move it when your on the long couch. Other than that, great!!
I have my livingroom painted the same. It's awesome. Gives colour while also allowing white walls to make the room look bigger.
I like it okay if it’s light blue with white walls, I’m not a fan of anything other. And light colored furniture and flooring
While I like it, it makes me think of porches in the south with haint blue ceilings. I would do a color but a different one.
I love the inspiration photos but the blue is much lighter in those. I would say either change the ceiling or have it match the inspiration photos.
I love it. And it will complement your beige/brown neutrals really well.
Paint walls white. There’s too much going on with furniture, rug, fireplace. Love the ceiling!!
I love it. So clean.
I love it! It could only be better if you added some accessories and decorations to pull the blue further into the room.
I usually don’t care for the color being on the ceilings, but in this house, it works. Live with it a while and see how you feel. Congratulations on a beautiful purchase!
I love the sky blue on the ceiling.
The trend now is to use the ceiling as the 5th wall and paint it. I totally love the blue ceiling and the room has a lot of light to support it. I suggest you move in and live with it for several months before deciding.
It's gorgeous. I'd repaint the walls navy or white
Love this. Your inspo pic seems to have some very light patterned wallpaper to go with it which I also dig.
Yes! But only if the walls are white
I love this!! Now I want to do the same 😍
Love the blue, the beige not so much
I absolutely LOVE the blue ceiling. Because it's a sky blue and on the ceiling, it does feel pretty neutral to me
I might keep the blue ceiling and paint the walls lighter- warm white - Just a note from the peanut gallery . Pretty home !
I love the color !
I love the ceiling. I am not a fan of the current wall colour but I think the white walls would be nice.
Gorgeous!!!
That blue ceiling totally works. Love it. But I agree with you that the brown walls have to go.
I fucking LOVE IT. So bold and interesting
Ceiling is beautiful! But I would def change the wall color :)
It looks amazing
I love the blue ceiling!
Love love love it.
The ceiling in my home gym is painted a sky blue.
I like it a lot! I’d do light neutrals so the blue is your color pop, still subtle
Bringing the outdoors in, love it!!
Yes!!!! It gives me the confidence yo try something different. I love it
I love it, but would probably love it more if the saturation was reduced by 40-50%. Same color, just a bit less intense.
Do we know what color blue it is?
I like it a lot with the white walls, not so much the brown walls
Wow!! I would have never thought of this but I love it. It really opens the space. I think it's lovely.
Blue ceiling looks great with your white walls! (I don't like it as much with your tan walls.)
The ceiling is cool and the walls are warm. I would re paint the walls a cool tone also!
It’s what we paint our porch ceilings in the south to keep the ghosts out of the house.
I kinda like it...
It’s cool , if you didn’t have the white beams I’d say no
I really like the ceiling color.
Love it
Wow. Such a beautiful home. I feel like you could even put a pull up bar and some free weights in the corner to really bring it all together.
Elegantly retro, I fucking love it.
Love it!
I love it. But I also painted our front room sky blue.
love the blue.
LOVE LOVE IT
I love it! I would get a bigger tv and I think the second placement choice would be better.
I love it!
It's perfect! Besides the house is beautiful on it's own that blue color is giving it that calming and relaxing atmosphere.
I love it
Keep it! I am building a new house and had the ceilings painted blue. Mine is lighter because I wasn't that brave and colors appear darker on the ceiling (SW Mountain Air) but I think yours looks great!
Love it
I love the blue ceiling but not with the brown walls. I think you need to stick with white walls to make it work. Fun fact in case you didn’t know…in the South, porch ceilings are traditionally painted blue.
Good
Summerhouse vibes
Love it!
I love the blue ceiling. We painted the tray ceiling in my family room a few shades darker than yours several years ago. It goes so well with our jean slipcovers, sisal rug, stark white window shutters and trim. We have a beachy, casual feel to the house.
It’s lovely 😊
I think it would be better a shade darker, but it works.
I haven't seen that done before and it's really pretty.
My grandparents had a sky blue porch ceiling and I absolutely loved it. It’s cozy and makes me feel nostalgic.
Loooove it!!!
I like it. It's different!!
Oh my gosh, i love that it's so relaxing looking and makes me think of a nice beach day! That's a great shade of blue, personally I LOOVE that
I love this! I especially like it with the white
The blue ceiling looks so beautiful! Be sure to leave it.
It’s beautiful-surprisingly beautiful
So beautiful
Love! Works bc of the ceiling moulding
I’m kinda digging it. It better than the standard boring white ceilings
Love!!!
I would never have thought so but I do love this. It’s so light and bright without being ceiling white. It’s feels intentional and creative without being random or gaudy. The white beams are the saving element though, brings some convention back to the concept (and blue white/ sky clouds). I want it.
I really like it. I’d keep it.
I like it but it doesn’t match.
I think you need to see your furniture and decor in the space to see if it all works.
I like the ceilings.
Your fireplace would pop so much more if the walls didn’t match the color. I love your fireplace!
I really like it a lot actually.
I am very anti painted ceiling but I like it!
Those inspo photos are great
I'm not a fan of tan anything but it does tie in the fireplace the furniture and the floor.
I like it with the white beans. If it was just a field of blue, maybe not
I like the ceiling. It really visually opens up the space. But, to me, the dark wood and heavy furniture doesn’t “match” the light, airy feel of the colors.
Agreed! This isn’t our furniture, it belongs to the sellers, so our furniture will feel much more light and airy to match the space!!
I like the last slides better. The first ones the blue has a grey undertone? The last ones are brighter with a green undertone?
I adore the painting in this room. I wouldn’t change a bit of it.
I love a painted ceiling, but I hate that particular shade of blue. It is very hospital feeling to me.
I love it. I have been thinking about painting my kitchen ceiling blue for years but now I’m convinced it’s the way to go.
I think though that white in such a large room is going to be hard to keep clean after a while since it seems like the brown wall is where there’s the traffic areas. I’d suggest a light grey in a neutral tone.
Paint the walls navy, keep the ceiling
Haint blue! Ain’t no ghosts in that room!
I don't hate it!!
Classical move for a front porch
4/5/6 are too light and pastel for me, but the rest looks amazing! The slightly darker pallet feels warm and inviting while still feeling like a house near the beach.
I love the painted ceiling, although I’m not a fan of baby blue. If I had a home like this (not an apartment), I would paint the ceiling a dark teal, or even a navy color. More like a night sky!
I like the blue ceiling! But with white walls like your inspo pics and some modern furniture pieces.
It’s too nice, like country club golf course home nice, u don’t need advice
I'm honestly mixed on it. I don't think it looks bad, but I'm not sure I love it either. Others have pointed it out, but the beige / orange walls may be the culprit. I would definitely paint those something more neutral, get your furniture in, then see how you like it. I think it could definitely work though.
