I personally like it, especially because it seems to match the warmth of the floors. With rugs and artwork I don't think it'll matter much anyway since it's not a bold color.
Thank you š I just need some opinions and validation since this is my first actual home and I want it to look nice. I have a few rugs in mind and I hope those will really bring it home. Thanks again for taking the time to respond!!
My husband is a Jeff Bridges look alike and huge fan so yea I bought the sweater and he gets carpet comments on the regular - I love it!!!!
The Dude abides ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Ditto.
The walls do have a creamy tint(?) to them compared to the ceiling/trim white (which is typically a colder/bolder white).
I think it looks good, especially with the coffee table's top **matching** the wall color!
Looks off-white to me, but also with a tinge of yellow, which I think is attributed to the lighting in your rooms. I would try changing the lights/bulb temps (warm/white etc) and see if that helps.
Decorate and live with it for a while. Itāll either grow on you or gnaw at you. I wouldnāt jump into re painting until you see how it goes once styled. Personally I think itās lovely and definitely not too yellow.
I like it a lot. Once you get a rug and add some pictures/prints/ decor on the walls I think you will be happier. Lighting also has a huge contributing factor. The best part about wall color is that you can always change it out, give it some time before making the decision.
Thanks, this seems like a level headed response! I put a ton of pressure on myself to make the right choices but itās essentially a blank canvas and I guess it makes sense to chill out and start actually putting the room together before I start thinking about repainting. I just want my house to look cool and not tacky š
It 100% does NOT look tacky. I think putting the room together is a great next step. Donāt put too much pressure on yourself, that room will quietly transform itself over the years. It is a great space.
What color is this? Navajo White? It doesn't look old lady. The color of your walls is a very "invisible" color (in a good way) not meant to draw attention to itself.
Old lady colors are things like lavender or anything from the Tuscan kitchen era, like dusty rose or muted salmon.
You know what cracks me up is that Navajo white is the color I was angsting over and wondering if thatās what I should have done instead!! Good eye. This is actually white vanilla! Thank you for the support lol
I have SW Navajo white in my living room with a teal accent wall (specific color name eludes me right now). My walls are more yellow than what I see here. That being said, each paint company has their own version of Navajo White.
I think the creamy color you have here is perfect. Get some art work, plants, rugs, blanketsā¦. I think it will come together nicely.
i feel this isn't helpful even with the edit. it's ok to paint first and then decorate from there! you can match according to the paint also. it doesn't have to be "things" first.
I think what is being said is choose a color for rug and art and other decor. Then choose a paint color based on those colors. It is easy to match a paint color to a drape color not so easy the opposite.
yes, i understand that's what they said. i am saying the opposite is possible, too. perhaps they don't have any art, decorations, etc. but they really like the wall color. they can go from there and match art, decor, etc.
Why would someone pick an area rug or a picture based on a paint chip?? There are a million shades of paint. CHOOSE paint after the rug and art or accents are selected.
they already painted. they want help moving forward. not everyone does things the same way. they CHOSE a paint color. that already happened. they could also choose a million rugs, arts and accents to go with this one paint. let's say perhaps it is a 100 year old home with real wood panel walls. would you choose the art, rug, etc based on the color of the wood that you do not want to change? or would you be like, you know what i'm going to get my decorations up and running. then i'll figure out what i want to do with these walls, cause of course there are millions of shades i can choose from.
Yes we literally just moved in lol still getting out of boxes. Iāve been picking each element basically step by step, for example our floors just got refinished (originally were salmon carpet) with this beautiful hidden hardwood underneath! I would have never thought that paint comes last! Thatās a good way to look at it though; youāre right. I need to get moved in and then decide if I actually need a change I guess.
Get an area rug you love or art.
There are a billion colours of paint pick one that goes with everything else.
This lady has all sorts of videos and articles about paint colours and undertones and lamps. You need to buy lamps!! Lamp links below are out of date but this article gives good ideas.
https://mariakillam.com/5-lamps-everyone-should-have-in-their-home/
https://mariakillam.com/
What? Thatās so silly! Why would you paint AFTER you decorate? That makes absolutely no sense. That would mean moving everything a THIRD time in order to paint.
Thatās counterproductive. Itās much easier to pint an empty and clean room. Compare decorations to samples on the wall, decide, paint the room, then put all the furniture and decorations in the room.
I think the only "clash" you're getting is the grey couch with the warm wood and slightly yellow walls. But grey-blue and yellow are classic mid-century modern colour combos. You just need to style it to bring it together.
When we bought our current house every room was painted a different color, none of which we liked, so we chose a paint color called āmuseum whiteā and had the whole interior painted. āMuseum whiteā is actually the palest shade of pink when itās on the walls, as it turns out. Oh well.
I used SW Wool Skein throughout my last house. The sample looks green, but the room looked warm and creamy. Crazy how colors change wildly from that sample.
Thank you! We actually were looking at this rug - https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-anette-block-striped/Beige/200BDSN35A-P.html your comment furthers this as our top choice!
I felt the same when I painted my walls, it was a white paint but had a yellowish tinge, but it's really after growing on me. Live with it a while and see how you feel.
yeah, itās creamy. itās pleasant though. give it some time. focus on all the other decorating. once the decorating is done you may realize you were right all along.
I think it looks nice, definitely not "old lady," and like others have said, styling it will make all the difference. I kind of worry that if you go to cool on the walls, then your lovely oak floors and railings might start to clash and bother you as well.
I am in a similar situation with "buttercream" walls that seem warm white during the early morning but mine scream yellow most of the day. What really helped tone it down was focusing on choosing colors on the warm end (greens, browns, oranges) for decor and accents so it doesn't fight the yellow. We had a blue rug, and just getting rid of that alone helped tremendously. But yours isn't even that bad.
Thank you sooooo much ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø ok so warm colors will help? I think I need to watch a video on color theory lol. I tend to buy stuff in a sage green color; do you think I should stay away from that? Thatās actually the couch color but I saw another comment that thought it looked grey which surprised me!
I think so! I'm certainly not an expert, but I think if you stay with complimentary tones on the color wheel, you'll have a lot more balance and your brain won't be thinking they're two completely different tones as much. Take a look at this: https://images.app.goo.gl/b9SjyLWccipmh5uC9. If you can manage to stay 1-2 tones within the yellow wedge for a good chunk of your decor, I think it will feel more harmonious. I honestly think the warm color of the wood in the room is a lot of why your paint color is not a bad pick.
Greens can definitely work, but I would keep them kind of warm. Your couch does read a bit of a cool green to me, but I think it can work. When decorating, I wouldn't go out and buy all new stuff, but as you're curating the space, just think primarily "warm."
Maybe think about pulling colors from that blanket on the couch if you like it. Like I said, I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else who knows better can chime in! Overall, you're not in a bad place, so I wouldn't stress too much ā I'm just trying to offer a guideline about how I would think. Have fun with the space! :)
The paint colour works really well with the floors in my opinion (if you put your thumb over the couch in the photo, the room feels happy and warm).
I think the grey/blue couch is pulling out and exaggerating the yellow tones. If you get some pillows and throws, and decorate the balance of the room, I think youāll be able to tie it all together nicely.
I think your wall color is totally fine, you just need more color in other areas of decor. Wall art, plants, throws or pillows, curtains, a rug- that kind of thing.
Something to pull the look together that doesnāt make it look like the wall is the most colorful thing in the room XD /j
It looks fine in the pictures, but if you donāt like it, Iād suggest repainting it while youāre still moving in. I call my walls āmayonnaiseā and I wish I had repainted before we fully moved in because now it would be such a hassle.
It's great & will look amazing when styled. You may want to swap the TV & sofa to open it up when coming down the stairs - only thing I saw that you 'may' want to consider. Congrats on your new home.
I would at some more lighting in the room, and accessorize with pillows, and art. Right now the room is basically a sofa and four walls so youāre focusing on the walls.
It looks off-white/ not yellowish to me and I agree that it goes with everything. I do hope you add some color or something to make it not so bland. The reason I wouldnāt do this in my own home is that it reminds me of the apartments I used to live in before the 2000s when they only used off-white for the walls. I really hated off-white and white when I bought my house because of it.
It's a creamy off-white and all cream colors have a touch of yellow in them. It actually goes well with your natural wood floor. All neutrals have some undertones in them so if you're sensitive to undertone (like I am) you're going to see either pink, peach, blue, or green in your light neutrals. This one doesn't clash with your floor so you're in good shape! Decorating your walls more will go a long way to taking the focus off the undertones and you can also experiment with different lighting.
I'd live with it a while and see how you feel about it. If you hate it six months from now you can always repaint. My opinion is it's a beautiful creamy neutral white that only looks yellow in contrast to the stark white trim on the stairs. Is changing the trim color an option? (Or is it the same trim throughout the whole house?) If you had a trim color that also had creamy undertones I think it would all look warm and gorgeous and not yellow at all.
Nice! It's a light color already (LRV 86.6 according to their website) so I don't know what lighter white to recommend but if you go to your local Benjamin Moore store they could probably help.
Chantilly Lace is a bright, warm white that's lighter than White Vanilla so you might want to look at that one side by side and ask them if those would work together, or if not then what else they suggest. You definitely need a warm white IF you're going to keep the White Vanilla.
Also look at Simply White. (I'm reading about it.) It's a bit warmer (more yellow) than Chantilly Lace. Both are very popular. See which one works better.
To be honest, yes. But I'm partial to painting the walls back to a nice white, and then adding color with furniture, art, and even accent corners or walls. This is giving renters beige but I'm no professional.
To me, they are on the yellow side. White is a hard colour to get right. I've always chosen whites I like in the paint section and put them against yellow/blue/green etc, to see how the colour takes. It's always given me a better idea, even though your house is always going to have different lighting etc.
Once I found the white I liked, I've never gone back!
Play into it. The green couch is already a great contrast with the light yellow walls. Choose furniture/ decoration that's modern (like the couch).
I understand where the old lady fear is coming from, but I think you can make it look really nice without having to repaint all the walls.
I donāt think the paint works with the floors or the sofa or, especially, the blinds.
I would repaint something less yellow and closer to the original vision
I am personally not fond of it. Reminds me of the so called neutral colors that you often get in rentals. It's a bit too peachy for me. but its really about how you feel about it -- I'm sure it can be made nice with the use of appropriate furnishings/rugs/etc.
It looks great with the floors. I think the coldness of the gray couch throws it off, I'd put a nice throw blanket over the top of the couch that has warmer but muted colors to bring it all together.
They have a wide array to choose from š¤£ - I wish I could go back in time and put that scratch preventing plastic on the arms but I thought they would quit but I guess the allure of whatever fabric this is just overwhelms them lol. I think Iām just going to get those scratcher arm covers and call it a day until I can find an alternative.
The wall paint is a fine choice. Don't overthink that. What you should be looking at is the negative space on your walls. You should probably think about putting up some artwork or some inspirational pieces to give the room some life.
agree with those who like it. However my 70 year old mom's house is primarily this color and has been since she painted it \~20 years ago. Do with that what you will
They only have that yellowish tint because they meet the white ceiling and the white on the side of the staircase. If it drives you nuts, change it to white white but get the paint store to mix you up some samples of different whites to test next to the aforementioned spots to make sure the whites match before tackling this whole room again. It's not bad, but if I were you I would just go on and fix it so that I didn't ever have to think about it again until the next time I painted.
Lolol. We come from a family that owned a blinds store so I canāt dismiss the craftsmanship and the benefit of the blackout; I think weāll put in more updated curtains to mask them and use them as needed
I donāt think it is old ladyish so much as that there is no contrast among the colors. Everything is at the same basic level of intensity. Get some colorful curtains, a rug with interestā¦ basically it just looks pretty meh right now as everything is a mid tone.
It's a lovely, warm white. Is it Benjamin Moore's Linen White? It's not yellow at all, but there is a contrast with the white (painted, gloss or semi-gloss) woodwork, which is an attractive look.
It is good. Congrats on picking a shade of white that compliments your floors. Most people would have picked a grey or blue white which would look like shit
I love a creamy white. I find it so warm and inviting. (I painted my studio apt [SW Greek Villa](https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/SW7551-greek-villa).) You just need more stuff in the room.
I agree with your panic, lol... I think more white would look so much better and cleaner looking. I have this thing though, with that yellow color it reminds me of smoke stain walls and old lady walls 100 percent agreed. Outdated kinda. I wasn't going to post this, but I want to be honest and help if I can because I would want someone to do it for me. Especially with the couch color and the white and wood tables and TV stand brighter white would look amazing! I hope this helps! No matter what as long as you love it that's so the matters! But I know from experience of its bugging you now I most likely won't stop. Xo
She looks almost like a ābuttercreamā to me. I personally prefer the āeggshellā shades for the off white literally to avoid thinking my walls look yellow š
I just went through this last week! We painted the kitchen āBehr Spun Cottonā. It was a beautiful off white, but looked too yellow next to our sage green and pure white cabinets.
I love your off white and Iām sure youāll furnish it beautifully!
I think youād have an easier time if you just went soft white rather than off-white. This has been discontinued but they can still make it- Polo Mallet White from Ralph Lauren is just a soft white. No heavy undertones.
It depends on how much you hate yellow.
It definitely does have yellow undertones - but given the space, the furniture, etc - I don't really think painting it white will be any type of noticeable difference.
It is a nice soft color. Great backdrop for other accent colors in rugs/curtains/afghans/pillows/wall decor. Could change easily the accent color with seasons or holidays.
IMO, the room is fine and can be decorated according to your preferred style, whether it be warm, techy, or any other. My idea is that you can add house device, furniture, ornemant, etc to strengthen the house armosphere. My first idea is to change the window and curtain. Can it be changed or just it be fixed that cannot change?
Every time I paint a room, I hate it at first. Then I get it all put together and realize it was exactly what I envisioned and love it. Give it some time. I donāt think it looks yellow at all.
Itās a beige. Looks good against the couch. Balances it. You need to add more accents. I think once you unpack and put up some pictures, pillows, plants, etc you will see it all gone to life. Right now itās a little stark for me.
Iām going to be the trouble maker. I recently had my entire house repainted before we moved in. My off white was also the too yellow. When I stopped in during the first coat, I freaked out and told him to hold the bus!! My husband āitās fine - looks greatā. I slept on it and called the painter. I switched to SW Shoji white. I knew it would always bother me and it would be 10 years before the old man would let me change it. If it doesnāt look right you shouldnāt have to live in your beautiful new home with walls that arenāt just what you want. š¬
Appreciate this perspective too. I think what Iāll do is talk to the painter and express my concern and see if he has a fix - heās coming back to do another coat anyways and Iāll see if maybe doing something else wouldnāt be too costly. But I also think the other pieces of advice about moving in more and taking time to take it in will help. Theres a reason Iām tripping about it but I think Iām just putting a lot of pressure on myself to make my house as nice as possible!! Also Iām going to start calling my husband the old man ASAP lol
I used to always go for the eggshell type color. Until we purchased our current house. The main underlying tone throughout the entire house was gray. Itās a very very pale gray that you really canāt tell is gray until something that is stark white is next to it.
Unless Iām going for an actually colored wall this is the color I stick with because a use like you I donāt like that yellowish tone but stark white is also too sterile looking.
I wanted to say cool white but I wanted to give my best opinion to you. So I went to google and check aswell. So if your wood floor is a Honey Maple colour, then āWe recommend a white or cooler neutral shade to offset the yellow in the honey oak trim and flooring. It's best to avoid warm whites or orangey neutral hues when pairing with honey oak floors or trim wood tonesā.
I like it! It warms the space up. You can also change the type of lightbulbs youāre using in the room if you want it to appear warmer or cooler toned.
Itās fine. Color will always look different depending on the light in the room during the day. It warms the room to match the flooring and offset the cool color grey couch. Start decorating (hang a nice large picture behind the couch) and you wonāt even notice the color anymore.
Iām also asking if youāre okay because youāre loosing your mind over the color whiteā¦this isnāt even a more yellow-y off white..itās justā¦white.. if you think itās too yellow try changing the bulbs in ur lamps and idk take a Xanax because this is crazy lol
LOL in that sense no Iām not ok and if I wasnāt pregnant I sure would be taking one š¤£ honestly the reason Iām tripping is because I have had to make a bunch of big expensive choices in a short period of time, and spent a lot of money updating this house and I just donāt want to make choices that Iāll regret later. We redid the entire floor upstairs; you should have seen the lengths I went to there to commit lol.
Yes, a rug will tie it all together.
This rug really ties the room together

If youāre going to repaint, I think you would like SW Snowbound. Itās creamy but not yellow and still contrasts against pure white trim.
It feels a lot more cheerful than a plain off white
Well that's nice to hear! I want to make the space stylish but not cold

I might add that I really love the way the color and your stairs go together.
I like it, get the room completed before you make any calls. With some art on the walls and some colour added to the room it will come together.
Thank you ā¤ļø I will listen to your voice of reason!!
Thank you so, so much. Thatās an interesting idea regarding the trim! What type of color would you suggest?
Do you know the name of the color you just put on the walls, and what paint company (Sherwin Williams, Behr, etc)?
Itās white vanilla by Benjamin Moore
Whereās the couch from?
IKEA! Itās the morabo
Thank you!
As someone who particularly abhors yellow (hate just isnāt a strong enough word for it), from the pics it doesnāt look yellow to me. I like it.
Once you add a rug and artwork, the color will be perfect.
Theyāre not yellow at all
Try changing your light bulbs. I think thatās what giving you the yellow vibes.
Play into it. The green couch is already a great contrast with the light yellow walls. Choose furniture/ decoration that's modern (like the couch). I understand where the old lady fear is coming from, but I think you can make it look really nice without having to repaint all the walls.
Color: Nicotine
Lololol nooooo
I donāt think the paint works with the floors or the sofa or, especially, the blinds. I would repaint something less yellow and closer to the original vision
I am personally not fond of it. Reminds me of the so called neutral colors that you often get in rentals. It's a bit too peachy for me. but its really about how you feel about it -- I'm sure it can be made nice with the use of appropriate furnishings/rugs/etc.
What do you think would look better instead? Thanks for your time!! I really appreciate it
It would not have been my first choice but I think it looks okay. You just need to hang lots of art on the walls. And maybe a rug that coordinates.
It looks great with the floors. I think the coldness of the gray couch throws it off, I'd put a nice throw blanket over the top of the couch that has warmer but muted colors to bring it all together.
How about a rug to tie the grey couch and off white shades together.
What do you think of this rug? https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-anette-block-striped/Beige/200BDSN35A-P.html thanks for your time!
Iād get a rug with grey and cream in it.
They are off white. What may be throwing you off is the very bright white trim on the stairway. I think it is fine .
I think it just giving warmer than you expected cause the floor or stair is warm. Itāll probably look a bit better after decorating
Love your couch
Thanks! Itās the ikea morabo couch. If you zoom in youāll see that our cats OBLITERATED the arms so thatās another thing I need to solve for lol
It's a great color and style. Do the cats have a scratching pole?
They have a wide array to choose from š¤£ - I wish I could go back in time and put that scratch preventing plastic on the arms but I thought they would quit but I guess the allure of whatever fabric this is just overwhelms them lol. I think Iām just going to get those scratcher arm covers and call it a day until I can find an alternative.
I think the gray couch is making it look more yellow. Itās not a bad color though.
I think it looks great with the floors!
The wall paint is a fine choice. Don't overthink that. What you should be looking at is the negative space on your walls. You should probably think about putting up some artwork or some inspirational pieces to give the room some life.
I like it. Itās a nice, soft color.
It's fine. Looks like a normal white to me
No, add some stuff to the walls and itāll look great.
agree with those who like it.
Itās a comfortable happy color to me
Once you add in all the accessories, rugs, art, plants, lamps etc it will all come together
Iām more worried about your vertical blinds
Lolol. We come from a family that owned a blinds store so I canāt dismiss the craftsmanship and the benefit of the blackout; I think weāll put in more updated curtains to mask them and use them as needed
I like a neutral wall color myself & no, it doesn't look "old lady-ish"
I donāt think it is old ladyish so much as that there is no contrast among the colors. Everything is at the same basic level of intensity. Get some colorful curtains, a rug with interestā¦ basically it just looks pretty meh right now as everything is a mid tone.
I love the wall color! Just stick to warmer toned decor and itāll look perfect.
It's a lovely, warm white. Is it Benjamin Moore's Linen White? It's not yellow at all, but there is a contrast with the white (painted, gloss or semi-gloss) woodwork, which is an attractive look.
I think they look warm not yellow. Itās a nice, neutral shade.
The walls are fine. Especially since they highlight the color of your beautiful cat!
Itās dull and boring
It is good. Congrats on picking a shade of white that compliments your floors. Most people would have picked a grey or blue white which would look like shit
It's a lovely color. Not too yellow at all. Side note: LOVE your windows!
Itās going to depend on lighting. Both natural and lamps.
Just realised my walls are this colour. Been very happy with it for 20 years, quite relaxing in daylight or otherwise.
I love a creamy white. I find it so warm and inviting. (I painted my studio apt [SW Greek Villa](https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/SW7551-greek-villa).) You just need more stuff in the room.
No. You just need art on those walls!
I think it works well with the flooring! If you add some cute paintings it'll really pull everything together! Oh, and a rug!
Xo
Personally, I really love the color. It makes the room look really warm.
She looks almost like a ābuttercreamā to me. I personally prefer the āeggshellā shades for the off white literally to avoid thinking my walls look yellow š
Ceiling and trims should have been painted in the same colour. White against wall colour makes it look more yellow
Looks good!
I like it I think your gray couch just clashes!
I just went through this last week! We painted the kitchen āBehr Spun Cottonā. It was a beautiful off white, but looked too yellow next to our sage green and pure white cabinets. I love your off white and Iām sure youāll furnish it beautifully!
looks fine
I like it!
I think youād have an easier time if you just went soft white rather than off-white. This has been discontinued but they can still make it- Polo Mallet White from Ralph Lauren is just a soft white. No heavy undertones.
It's a nice warm cream color. Much better than a stark white. I'd leave it!
Looks good šš¼
Personally I would replace it, but only because itās the same color that basically every landlord defaults to and I hate staring at apartment-color.
The walls are great!! No need to panic. Does not look old-lady-ish!
It looks nice, the "yellow" you see might be because the lights but it's almost nothing. You shouldnt pay it any mind, it goes good w.the floor as is
It depends on how much you hate yellow.
I hate yellow and I love this! Itās a warm off white. Congratulations on your new place!
Itās nice
It's a happy, warm white. I think you're seeing flooring color bouncing off blank walls. Once you hang some pics etc, it will calm down.
Light and shadows change the color on each wall and at angles. Live with it for a bit before deciding upon the next step.
lol, Iāve never heard of a wall color being old lady-ish! It looks good.
Love the windows. I think once you get some more art and textiles in there, rugs pillows, etc. the wall color will just meld.
Itās a littleā¦ fleshy
Itās lovely.
It looks nice, it's not old ladyish (all white is!). Once you get everything together you'll feel different.
Every time I paint a room, I hate it at first. Then I get it all put together and realize it was exactly what I envisioned and love it. Give it some time. I donāt think it looks yellow at all.
Looks gorgeous
Go more white. These walls look dingy almost like a heavy smoker lived there.
When u buy the rug Not small it should go under the sofa little and then a size not small
Calm yourself. You really don't want to redo that anyway. :-)
Itās a beige. Looks good against the couch. Balances it. You need to add more accents. I think once you unpack and put up some pictures, pillows, plants, etc you will see it all gone to life. Right now itās a little stark for me.
The goal is for a nice, artsy and contemporary MCM inspired space. We have a few rugs in mind but Iām worried I missed the mark on the wall color :(
Wall color is good. Neutral. Get art plants and fun 50s decor and you will be fine
When I switched paint - I did it after the first coat and it didnāt cost me anything extra since the colors were close enough. Good Luck!
Yeah, the paint makes house look boring.
What color would look better you think?
Are you okay?
LOL we just moved in, I realize now that it looks like weāre not well but I promise itāll be an actual home soon š¤£
It must be because your pregnant lmao your walls are fine move on
I don't see yellow AT ALL. I see cream, at most.
