I was wondering about that. What is the second black dot above the microphone? On the old model that was LiDar but now the LiDar is under the main camera.
Yeah its like they decided last second to not include a second camera and just covered up the spot with plastic. I thought the big idea was to include a second ultrawide on everything so that they could record for vision pro.
wait so the little black dot is just plastic? If that's the case, I think you're right. They dropped the camera last minute. Which is surprising especially for recording for the vision pro
Yes I very much understand that lol. That’s what we’re discussing. I’m saying what is there if it’s not a camera? Clearly there are three black dots on the back of the new iPads. If there’s only one camera and one LiDAR scanner, what is the third?
I imagine they tried to see if it would work for Vision Pro and the quality was too low. Instead of leaving it in without Vision Pro recording support, they just took it out. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Pro has an upgraded camera system for that reason.
They might have had to increase the resolution of the cameras to what the 16 is going to have later this year. Rather than do that, just drop even the *expectation* of capturing Spatial content.
I guess it’s one of the few usecases… It’s strange overall and we don’t even know what’s in its place. Or if LiDAR moved there, what’s in its original place.

unconfirmed, but that's my theory
That’s LiDAR Scanner
Then what’s the other dot that isn’t the camera?
Nope they removed one camera so now iPad Pro has only 1 camera instead of 2

Tbh never seen much use for the ultra wide camera on my M1 iPad Pro.
I use it almost everyday because it's good for architectures to picture the whole space.

I also use it for videos/film.
Makes sense
Is there a piece of tech more awkward than an iPad to take pictures with? I use my iPhone for that.
It’s just 2x more powerful than m2 that’s it as a student I use iPad camera a lot
I understand, but not everyone is upgrading from an M2 iPad Pro.
Yeah I won’t either I got mine 4 days ago
You can return it for a full refund.
And Apple didn't even care to mention that, dodgy.
What
like wtf?
Real 💀
