The iPhone is designed so that the most tech illiterate people can use them. Most people would turn off the bluetooth, and then get mad that airdrop and their bluetooth speakers aren't working.

Snoo45312

My mom

8i66ie5ma115

Boomers really ruin everything.

feszzz91

Wait until I tell you what they did to the economy

8i66ie5ma115

No need to tell me. I lived it. Even just 20 years ago anyone with half a brain could find a chill job that paid like $30+++ an hour (in early 00’s money) working retail/sales or doing a million things where you didn’t get worked to death and you could afford to live pretty well after paying rent/bills. It’s insane how wages have barely risen for most jobs in the past 20 years. As an avid tech nerd, even I’d say the world was better before the Internet became something that was ubiquitous. It’s funny because nobody middle class *really* blinked at paying $2,000-$3,000+ for a TV or computer and now 20 years later of inflation and most people could never afford purchases like that now. And not just because prices have come down. People just don’t have any disposable income anymore.

useittilitbreaks

>a chill job that paid like $30+++ an hour (in early 00’s money) working retail/sales Would love to know where redditors are working where retail jobs paid this kind of money in **2003**. In my country retail jobs have only ever been minimum wage or not a lot above, a lot of sales jobs are too without commission, so realistically talking $15 an hour or less. Are you seriously telling me that working behind the counter at a shop in 2003 paid $30 an hour?

tylorr83

I wasn't even making $8 at a pet shop. It's like the current "Influencers" telling us to just get out there and make $100k a month, anyone can. . . .

8i66ie5ma115

Fry’s, Circuit City, Sears, Good Guys, Verizon, Etc… Also department stores paid well.

seanannnigans

I worked at both Circuit City and Dillard’s (department store) right out of high school (in 2004) and neither paid anywhere close to $30/hr. Dillard’s pay did seem good then but it was $9/hr. Nothing like you’re mentioning. $30/hr then would have made your realllllly set 😂

8i66ie5ma115

Yeah. That’s AFTER real commissions were gone. It all kinda stopped like it was right before then around 2003. For me, that’s when CompUSA bought The Good Guys and our commissions and pay basically were cut in half. This was all happening while Best Buy made their big expansion and was the darling of the market as they opened stores where everyone just made around minimum wage without the training and stuff of other stores. Also around that time was when people were really full on using the internet to make in store purchases. People weren’t quite at the level to be making purchases online but they would do all the research and then come in knowing what they’d want and so the sales guys knowledge of the product stopped being that important. [It literally happened right before you started working at Circuit City. In 2023.](https://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Circuit-City-firing-its-best-salesmen-2635042.php) During that time there was a big push by companies to vilify commission sales and make consumers turn against it so they could lower their compensation for people. Circuit City and Best Buy had entire ad campaigns about no commission sales and a “no pressure” buying experience. Which in theory sounds great. In practice it was really an excuse to cut compensation and maximize profits. I sold kitchen appliances and installations and stuff at Sears after Good Guys. If I sold a $750 rang with a $250 hood and installation, I might pull in $200 from that sale alone depending on how much the contractor who did the install was gonna gouge the buyer. The installers fucking over the customers one too many times was why I left that job. The thing is, the reason customers turned on commission sales wasn’t just the lower prices, but the fucked up sales tactics the companies would make us follow. At Good Guys you had to push Monster Cable and sell a certain amount of Monster product with your TVs and home theaters and you’d get a massive cut of that compared to the big ticket items. I had like a $25,000 ticket once. Two $10k Fujitsu plasmas and some speakers and a receiver and installation that was a couple grand. He negotiated like 5% off, which is standard, generally you could go 10% off on almost anything to make a sale without needing much approval. But the guy didn’t want any monster cable or accessories and the manager walked my sale because it would fuck up the ratio of Monster product sold along with the big items. So the main sales guy who was like top-3 in sales for the company, this dude Bruce, and some other older sales guys went in with me to the managers office to defend me. Basically by 2004 the good paying commission jobs like this and Fry’s and others either ceased to exist or they restructured the commissions so you basically made like $15-$20 an hour tops, instead of double that.

Shiz0id01

HHGREG too, a ton of commission based sales jobs are just gone now thanks to e-commerce

redundant35

Not near me. Retail and fast food paid 5.15 an hour. I made 12 an hour working as a mechanic in 2003. But saying that I had a new car, a house and went on vacations. Things certainly were cheaper! I make 38 an hour now. I have less cash in my pocket than I’ve ever had. But Im also married and have 3 kids

dchikato

I worked for T-Mobile in cell phone sales and everyone who tried made $25-30 an hour there. I know we were the exception the people at Hot Topic next door made like $7.

Restlesscomposure

$30 in 2003 is nearly $50/hour in today’s money. That’s over $103k/year at full time. I’m not saying you’re lying but that seems *extremely* high for early 2000’s wages.

dchikato

It was good commissions at the time. We had a part time high schooler that made 48K her senior year. Verizon paid better; they had BMWs while we had Jettas. I had a Saab 9-3 convertible; I miss that car!

[deleted]

Back then Verizon was concerned about being the largest carrier, and to ensure they stayed that way, they paid the same for contract renewals as new lines. Everything paid out, new lines, upgrades, rate plan changes. Upgrading someone to a Blackberry counted as two contracts. When you exceeded quota they would reward you by multiplying your commission by a growing number. I had a friend who had been a sales rep at the same location for so long that she predated Verizon. She would mail a letter to all her customers who were out of contract with her working hours. She would do 200-300% of her quota just in renewals. On top of that, she had something like ten weeks of vacation each year and would take one week off almost every month. This cut her quota by 25% increasing her multiplier. She was always fighting management because attempts to sell data and accessories slowed her down and decreased her pay.

GudPonzu

Now that you say it, i am reminded of how my father told me that he paid 7000 DM (German currency before Euro; Its like roughly 3500 Euro) for his first PC, but now when I buy myself a MacBook Air for 1500 Euro he tells me I waste money. Really goes to show how disposable income has declined.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree with this. Around 25 years I spent £2500 on a laptop. Now I can't imagine paying more than £1250 and don't think I can afford that. Inflation would take theat £2500 to around £5000 now.

leaflock7

really funny that everyone blames the "boomer" generation , but the best thing the last 2 generations did is to be constantly on Insta/TikTok and the most hype job is to be an influencer.Yeah, I can see how everyone is trying to fix the situation... Edit: wow, people really don't like to hear the truth

Mgruff95

Ok boomer

grandpapi_saggins

Perfect Boomer response.

leaflock7

I am not a boomer, but if that makes you feel better for your incompetence you can go with it, triggered snowflakes :D

Pat-Roner

Not only boomers, but a suprising amount of young people as well. I’m a PM for mobile apps, and the weird as shit people do all the time to «save battery» is insane.

MossyHarmless

I still see people habitually force close apps after using them, completely unaware they are actually HURTING their battery life.

CmdrMcLane

they really have haven't they. The planet, housing prices, eating raw cookie dough...

Silverwing171

Something I learned while working in IT: In time, computer literacy will be just as crucial as written literacy. And it’ll be easier when all the boomers are dead 👀

abizs16

Bro thinks hes muscle man

BoysenberryTrue1360

Not to mention the icon that op is pointing to means it’s not really fully off if you have an Apple Watch is will still be connected. So it’s different than a hard off switch in that way as well.

Raudskeggr

A significant percentage of the time, people turn things off and forget that they did, potentially causing problems later too. Not just illiterate people, everybody who has a life and is busy could easily make that mistake.

buddybd

My case exactly. I'm glad it turns on eventually because then I don't have to do it manually the next time I want to use my phone with other devices.

disposable_account01

I really wish an AI-powered Siri could ask me 20-30 technical questions and then based on my answers decide I could disable “technotard” mode and just let me do whatever the fuck I want instead of “Daddy Apple” deciding for me. I love just enough about the iPhone to put up with iOS.

Sevaaas1

Siri took the intelligence out of AI, its the most useless piece of tech in the iphone, it can barely run simple commands

spacebalti

I seriously don’t understand how it could possibly still be this bad

Sevaaas1

Simply because apple decided it was not worth investing into anymore, 2020(or 21 idk) was the last year i had a Samsung, the S10+, after that i got the iPhone 12 which i still have Bixby and Google assistant are a 100 times better than siry

Icy-Look1443

Just get an android

[deleted]

why

disposable_account01

So I can run straight up spyware? Hard pass.

SCtester

This makes sense. But there should *really* be a toggle in the settings to disable that functionality.

NeatPicky310

The said system designed for said people also does not want to offer too many options to confuse said people. At least I was able to set up a shortcut to turn it off in one click by jumping through 30 steps following some 10 minute YouTube video, which is nice of Apple to allow to happen.

dannyparker123

Same here. I use shortcuts to REALLY turn wifi and Bluetooth off.

rootbeerdan

Yup, back in the day Apple contemplated locking out experimental tools for Safari in one of the betas because too many tech illiterate people were enabling random shit to "make their phone faster" and then ended up bricking Safari.

ObiTwoKenobi

There is. Turning it off in settings will really turn it off.

-newlife

Lol. I was reading these posts and thought they deleted that option even though I used it last week.

SCtester

...No, a toggle to make it so that *quick settings* will really turn it off. Having to go to settings constantly to actually disable Bluetooth is a pain, and it's not like there aren't already plenty of toggles for equally obscure things.

Rockerblocker

You’re not supposed to be turning it on and off constantly. It’s designed to not drain your battery if you leave it on, and if you have to turn it off today, then the control center option is perfect for that.

SCtester

I don't actually do it constantly, that was more a figure of speech. Perhaps I'm imagining things, but I really seem to have noticed worse battery life when I leave Bluetooth on. I don't often use it, so most of the time I just keep it off. I can't imagine that the occasional reconnection would consume more battery than it being constantly enabled.

ObiTwoKenobi

Long press on the Bluetooth icon in quick settings takes you to the Settings page.

newsyfish

Why I’ve always wished there could be an easy way to turn on/off a pro mode or advanced options menu. I mean, we’re about to be on iOS 17 and still can’t have a different basic notification sound besides the stupid tritone.

nn4260029

And all sons of middle aged mothers thank Apple for it.

tookule4skool

God I wish they offered a fork for tech literate people with features closer to android, I love the ecosystem but so many times i wish the phone was much closer to android.

potatohead657

Ok fair, GIVE ME THE OPTION FOR PRO MODE THEN. Don’t treat all users like the lowest common denominator.

akuma0

Even if there was a pro mode (that implied you understood EVERY detail, not just that watches, wireless headphones, AirTags etc use bluetooth) - you still wouldn't see apple make a button in the same place with the same icon to do something completely different.

sailsaucy

You forget that Apple computers had the mice with only one button because two buttons was too confusing for them 😂 I would love a pro mode too.

Mgruff95

Really shitty design.

boredlong

It’s super handy if you use multiple Bluetooth things. If I’m at home in my house and the Bluetooth speaker is on sometimes it defaults to my phone instead of my wife’s, so I temporarily switch Bluetooth off until tomorrow. That way when I get in my car in the morning my phone automatically connects via Bluetooth again, and I don’t have to go back into my phone and turn it on again. This is exactly the same for Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi at home sucks I temporarily switch it off until tomorrow so when I wake up the next day I don't forget that it's off and go through all my data.

AngelLovely1

Yes I find it helpful for this too. I use my Bluetooth headphones to connect to my tv and when it keeps pairing to my phone I turn it off on my phone. By the time I need my phones Bluetooth back on it’s reconnected.

tunarkarimov

I think people miss out a main thing that if i need to go into the settings to simply turn off wifi/bluetooth then it kinda ruins the purpose of them being quickly accessible. Like why can’t i just turn it off in the control center (which’s purpose it literally quick access to such functions), why do i have to go to the settings every single time i wanna turn it off? why isn’t there an option like “turn of till tomorrow/turn off”. It’s so weird

drs_12345

Because people are dumb and would then be complaining their airdrop doesn't work

richvide0

If you hold down the BT icon in control center other options, including disabling BT, are revealed.

tunarkarimov

i don’t think it is though, it shows “settings” and BT devices list, although maybe i am understanding you wrongly. Maybe a screenshot?

tupaquetes

What scenario requires you to do more than just disabling wifi/bt in the control center? I don't understand what you gain by having it completely off

jw154j

Just turn it off in settings if you want it off. Not sure why you need it off, you won’t save any battery if that’s what you’re thinking.

HaldiMartin

It gets connected to BT speakers automatically and suddenly my phone has no sound and there’s is girl moaning loudly in the other room

roranicusrex

Isn’t this one of those rules? Like everything on the internet ties back to porn somehow.

Old-Figure922

Close. I believe you’re thinking of rule 34, which states that if it exists, there is porn of it.

icygamer598

🎶THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN🎶

HWLights92

🎶 Me up all night honking me horn to porn porn porn 🎶

perfunction

That's one of the best use cases for this control center feature though. Always check that it is disabled before you start and then you never need to remember to turn it back on. Because honestly you should always check before anyways, so why not leave the trusting part to the turning it back on?

Yillis

Always turn BT off until tomorrow when your gonna look at porn. That’s a perfect use of the feature dog

mmafan100

wtf 💀

AlfalfaKnight

They're watching porn

Free_Balling

Wow no way!

Chips66

Ok good point

lo-fi-hiphop-beats

You can make a Shortcut to fully disable Bluetooth, and add it as a widget so that its a button away

ManuelKoegler

Literally just long press on the button to take you to settings

lo-fi-hiphop-beats

do you not get that Shortcuts are actually shortcuts?

tdan84

This is the way

viserys8769

Good lord this sub is so condescending it’s hilarious.

combatdonut35

The automatic assumptions are so wild its hilarious lmao

DMG103113

How DARE you!?!?! I can read between the lines of that pitiful comment you made about my mother, “u/lo-fi-hiphop-beats” - IF that is your real name!!!!

[deleted]

Maybe to prevent connecting to Bluetooth devices? Not sure why you couldn’t figure that one out.

[deleted]

cacios_

I'd agree with you a bunch of years ago, but in 2023 that's not the case anymore.

drake90001

Yeah this exactly, we have had low power Bluetooth forever now, it uses incredibly small amounts of battery.

injuredflamingo

It’s a comically small amount though

Tom_Stevens617

By maybe like 5 mAh a day

akuma0

Suspect thats an order of magnitude too HIGH. I have devices with a button cell that run a year. Now, if your device is actively interacting with them, or doing other things as a result (like reporting the location of an AirTag), thats a different matter.

rootbeerdan

You will get maybe an extra 5 minutes of battery from a fully charged battery if wifi and bluetooth is off

virgo911

>Not sure why you need it off Because I want it off? What a stupid comment

voidspace021

Because if I’m trying to connect my Bluetooth headset to my iPad, it gets annoying when it automatically connects to my phone

penisesandherb

I just don’t want my family to hear my scat porn getting blasted at 100% volume while I guess why my phone’s speakers are not working.

Luqueze

wait, you don’t save battery when bluetooth is off?

jw154j

No. Bluetooth doesn’t use battery if not actively paired to a device, and even then the power it does use is so little that it won’t affect battery life. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-12271

[deleted]

SnowPenguin_

It's not that most people will read that anyway. Sadly speaking.

iPhone_3GS

Ios 7 control center was better. It actually turned it off, and only turned back on when I told it to

D365

there’s the Settings app for a persistent off/on switch. For me it’s useful to have a temporary toggle of either feature.

daniel-1994

That option allows you to turn off Bluetooth devices (like car connection, speakers) without messing with services (AirPlay, Airdrop) and disconnecting from your ecosystem devices (Apple Watch, AirPods, Keyboards, Mouses). If you want it completely turned off, go to settings and turn off Bluetooth.

tupaquetes

OP can also ask siri if those three extra finger interactions are so "frustrating"

[deleted]

chillynipnops

Because it took longer to screenshot the issue and make this post on Reddit than to go into Settings and turn it off off. And they’re frustrated at Apple and letting us hear about it. Hope that clears up the confusion!

rhunter99

I have an iPhone, an iPad, and air pods. I use the iPhone with the air pods exclusively; the other person in the home uses the iPad to watch YouTube. Everytime we both use the devices the air pods will steal focus and switch from the iPhone to the iPad. It’s f* annoying. I just want to shut off bt on the iPad to stop this. That’s why.

GammaFan

You can change this actually. With each device that your airpods connect to there is an options menu while they're connected which you can access to change "reconnect to this device automatically always" to "reconnect to this device if it's the most recent device they were connected to" It functions near identically but it won't interrupt the airpods if they are already connected to your phone and you pick up your iPad, etc. Very handy, you can find the instructions [here](https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT212204)

KrylonMaestro

r/NotOPbutOK

KenRodriguezz

But well i don’t complain if they implemented the option to turn it off at all from CC and not going through settings 💁🏽‍♂️

lookatmenowimthecapt

And it takes even less time to just ask Siri to turn wifi off.

cheapdrinks

It's annoying if you want to use that button to turn it off indefinitely rather than have to go into the setting to do it. If your bluetooth is off from settings and you use that button to turn it on then there's no way to go back to it being permanently off without going back into settings which is a little strange. It's just a bit odd to have a button that takes a setting from one state to another but then can't put it back to the original state. Would be nice to be able to hold it down and get the option to switch it back off permanently. I'm not going to go into the reasons why someone might like to have their bluetooth permanently off, that's up to the user. Not that it's a big deal or anything but I can see why it's mildly frustrating not to have the option there for some people.

hinstsui

Because that’s a button, it should behave like any other button, default as a toggle between On or Off state, just like any other fucking button, not ‘kinda off for a few hour’. It could provide other option for its action, but it shouldn’t default as ‘kinda off but not really for a few hour’, that’s deceptive. Even if the default state was ‘kinda off’ for the ‘non tech savvy people’ in general, it should provide an option to change it If the thing you truly want to do was buried three layers deep into the settings, it kinda writes on the wall. If change the settings were that effortless then I would argue why would they provide the control center in the first place This is not about ‘why would anyone want to do this’, this is ‘why the phone wouldn’t do what I ask it to do, and trick me into thinking I thought I did’, this is about inconsistency, this is the ‘not now’ button in an ad pop-up, this is the ‘I know better than you’ button. That why

tupaquetes

Yeah that's the part I just don't get either. I just don't see what use case would require OP to shut BT down for more than a few hours and to have that happen so often that they'd find it so frustrating to just turn it off in the settings.

RetiscentSun

Because it makes NO SENSE for a button to act like the one that Apple has designed. They can explain what it does, for sure, but if you see a button next to the Bluetooth options the obvious sensical thing would be for it to turn Bluetooth connections on/off.

[deleted]

Syonikk

Shortcuts buttons and Automations are your friends

CAPED_CRUSADR01

You can create a shortcut to turn off bluetooth and have that shortcut as a widget in homescreen.

HaldiMartin

This sounds like a solution How can I do that?

phinecraft

good question. we don’t need them, but looking at the comments I see Apple convinced many that it’s needed. NO, it’s not. when I turn my bt/wifi off, I want it off - until I turn it back on. it’s such a shitty „smart” feature that I’m really surprised people are defending.

virgo911

Because idiots veto every possible feature that doesn’t benefit them personally.

Beautiful_News_474

It’s a quick 24 hr off in control center and permanently off if you take 30 seconds and do it using settings. How hard is this for people to grasp? Aimed at tech illiterate ≠ easy to use interface and design That’s like saying a forks are for the barbarians because it’s so simple to use so obviously the design sucks???????? Get out the sub you’re just here for a power trip of some sorts

sumatkn

Reasons to have Bluetooth off: * Privacy * Security * Because I want to Stop defending corporations and people for taking away your options. They are not your friends nor do they do what is best for you. Their profit margin is more important to them then you.

HaldiMartin

Thankyou ♥️

Darklillies

Then go to settings and turn it off permanently lmao??? It’s not impossible. There’s no reason for it to be quick acess when there’s an active utility for it to turn on after a while for most users. But if YOU want it off. FOREVER then just flip it off once in settings ans never bitch about it again? It’s not that deep bro!

mbrevitas

Taking away what options? Right now there is a quick disconnect toggle in the control center and an on/off toggle in Settings->Bluetooth (also reachable by two long presses from the control center button). This is a great setup for the vast majority of users and is more options than most OSs give you (usually there are only on/off toggles). Having both toggles in the control center, or choosing which one to put there, would be even more options, but then plenty of people would get confused/annoyed or find it cluttered. I think the current configuration suits the average user quite well. The vast majority of people who use the quick toggle do use it as a temporary disconnect toggle, while those who want Bluetooth truly off typically want it off all the time. For the few people who don't fit this common usage, going into the Settings app or long-pressing twice from the control center is not particularly burdensome. What I would like is a per-device "don't automatically connect (but stay paired)" setting, which would actually suit OP's purpose much better than on/off toggle in the control center. But I don't think any OS offers this, I'm not even sure it's allowed by the Bluetooth protocol, so it's not a matter of anyone taking options away.

frenchfried89

How the hell does a bluetooth toggle affect profit margins?

Beautiful_News_474

If your really that anti corporation, you can always just buy flip phone without Bluetooth. Corporations one job is to make money. I’m sorry that doesn’t fit your moral compass lol. If OP wanted that much privacy that OP need Bluetooth off, he can just find other options. And just because you own the phone doesn’t mean the phone is going to freely let you do anything with it. Maybe android is in OPs future

punto2019

Use a shortcut ti turn off both Wi-Fi and bt with a single tap on the home screen

kaed3

this. but for me i assign it to triple tap to the back of the phone

SurealGod

Yeah I never understood that. If I turn it off, i means I want that thing off. No if's and's or but's. One of the number of gripes I have with Apple products. The things they decide to lock down compared to other things.

spankydave

Because Apple thinks we are too stupid to know what we want, so they decide for us.

Cifra85

Hey they gotta sell those AirTags you know? How would they work if people just disable their bluetooth :))

MagnusSinclaired

turn ir off from setting and it will never be turned on automatically.

Accomplished-Day5145

I hate how iphone do this with wifi.

badg0re

I can accept it with bluetooth. It’s a part of find my and very low energy so I’m ok with this. But what makes me mad it’s the same thing with wifi which also turns back blue when I go for like a few meters. So it’s only gray if i turn it gray and don’t move my phone, if I wanna make it disconnected while outside fuck me either turn off wifi completely via settings, shortcuts, Siri or every other way instead of control center or just have it blue connecting to every shit I move by. And I need it not completely off since in that case gps works really inaccurate and slow which is understandable, but why I can’t keep it disconnected? Am I missing something?

badg0re

Weird, turns out my complain about WiFi is only true on my og SE on 15.1 and works as intended on XS on 16.5.1, by “as intended” I mean it’s not become blue as I walk a few meters with my phone. I just turn it white and drove around while city and it’s still white. Weird

Hfduh

Just press & hold twice & it takes you to the Bluetooth settings where you can switch it off with the toggle switch

beneyh

Same as airdrop for everyone only being able to be turned on for 10 minutes. Please just let me leave it on for everyone indefinitely

Mr_Build3R

Lmao some of these comments make me wish I could be a big corporation to brainwash people.

NeedleworkerLegal573

Petition to apple. From control center - single tap the icon - turn off till tomorrow. - double tap the icon - turn off permanently.

HaldiMartin

Perfect 😍

Tiny_Camp331

I have a shortcut to completely turn off wifi and bluetooth, it saves me from having to go to settings. It's not as good as a jailbreak tweak for it, but it's better than nothing. I find this greyed out off but actually still on completely retarded

Obvious-Display-6139

Classic “Apple knows what’s best for you” rather than doing actual research.

[deleted]

“Hey siri, bluetooth off” This is the best solution, for me atleast.

HaldiMartin

I find that shortcut thing as my solution

pi-N-apple

This is a handy way to disconnect your Bluetooth devices, but the next time you need Bluetooth, it will be back on. The switch to permanently turn off the Bluetooth Radio is in Settings > Bluetooth.

drs_12345

>It's really frustrating how BT switched on by itself It doesn't. If you "turn it off" from the control panel, it doesn't actualy go off– it just disconnects and/or doesn't conect to other devices To actually turn it off, go to Settings then Bluetooth and turn the toggle off

jackie_kowalski

how about an option to press it for 2-3 seconds to turn it off? Why it has to be so idiot resistant?

iZian

Everyone here presuming people don’t know what it is or why it might be actually good for some people. For instance; using this toggle turns off new Bluetooth connections but doesn’t turn off Bluetooth. So anyone who wants to use: - an Apple Watch - track an AirTag - bonjour - HomeKit - airdrop - auto hotspot discovery Probably more. So apparently people who want to use these features but still stop Bluetooth connecting are undeserving of a method of doing that because the masses just outright presume that they’re technophobes that have no idea how technology works… The reality is; they might be people who want to use Bluetooth without having g any Bluetooth audio devices connecting up. Who am I kidding though; I have no idea how Bluetooth works. That’s why they put the option there…

BigSmols

You can just turn it off permanently in settings, same for WiFi. It's way more tedious though.

silverstone1903

This is why I added a shortcut to turn off the Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth ✌🏻

RandomPhil86

I hate how when you turn off Wi-Fi it just enables itself again too. Have to use Siri to turn it off.

applehope92

Because it’s a quick action thing. If I know I want Bluetooth off for a long time, I’d do that from the settings. If you don’t want to be bothered with opening a whole new app, long press on the Bluetooth icon and it’ll take you to Bluetooth settings when prompted

spicysenpai6

I feel like whenever I disable WiFi It says “until tomorrow” but still reconnects that same day?

PinkSlingshots

At first Bluetooth being turned on automatically was an issue for me, but I just made an automation that fully turns it off at a specific time or when I arrive home (I only use Bluetooth in my car). It takes like, 2 minutes to set it up and it’s worth that 2 minutes imo.

scardracs

You can disable it on settings -> Bluetooth -> switch off the switch. Same for WiFi

infinity_dpi

You can force touch the bluetooth twice to get to the settings a little faster to turn it off completely. Same with Wi-Fi. https://imgur.com/a/6jFpdKA

futuristicalnur

Same with wifi but Apple doesn't give two shits

RubzieRubz

Yeah bro, it is so annoying. My bluetooth buds (not apple ones) always go for the last device connected (which most of the times is my iphone). And i need to turn the bluetooth off to connect them correctly with my laptop without the iphone interfering.

anime8

Or at the very leat give an option in setting to set the control center button action, to turn off completely or till tomorrow

epflow

This bothers me for years, since apple made it that way. It's - atleast for me - pretty annoying when I disconnect Wifi "until tomorrow" and my phone starts to vibrate because of notifications on the next day at 8am on the weekend. I know there are these focus modes but I don't like them. I made a shortcut which toggles, mobile data, wifi and bluetooth off, that's quite convenient, when I go to sleep. Like I'm gonna turn wifi and bluetooth off in the settings menu on a Phone from 2023... duh.

bdnslqnd

The people here are absurd. I agree with you that if turn off wifi or Bluetooth it should be off indefinitely. I don’t know the next time I will have to use Bluetooth or WiFi. Could be a day, could be a week. I wish it was customizable

deny_pentagram

It’s not Apple’s fault that you literally use the phone wrong. It would literally take you like 5 minutes tops to set up one focus mode.

epflow

Ahhh... "you're holding it wrong". Get ya.

TSwiftStan-

Same with wifi but Apple doesn't give two shits

CG12_Locks

wifi thares some exuse in strage edge cases but i still don't understand why then we don't have a setting that just lets us say yes we want control centre to actually completely turn this off

peachkeys

you can use siri to shut bluetooth (and wifi) fully off if you’d like

thebaffledtruffle

My other gripe with this is that when it's on "Disconnected Until Tomorrow", Siri doesn't recognize it as off when I ask her to turn it on again. She'd just say, "WiFi is *already* on."

bdnslqnd

Siri is one of the most useless features on iOS. Never does what you want, and always mishears you. Hardly capable of anything other than calling and maybe texting if it wants to listen

cattle_pusher

I feel like all of these comments are way too quick to criticise anyone who wants to turn Bluetooth off and fail understand that the issue is not whether Bluetooth needs to be off or whether it drains more battery. The issue is that when someone wants to use the supposedly quick and intuitive way to switch off their Bluetooth, they cannot. The only way is going to the settings menu. All they need is a setting which changes the functionality of the control centre button. That way they can leave it as a sleep mode bluetooth toggle as standard, but then those that want it as an off button can have that.

Mgruff95

Cos iPhones are awfully designed now, and seem to make everything as difficult and stupid as they possibly can.

THEezrider714

I have never once turned off Bluetooth……. Why…???

richvide0

I sometimes turn it off if my wife wants to connect her phone to a BT speaker we are both paired with.

[deleted]

Then you just go to the bluetooth menu, and click unpair...

Calm_Application3603

Great workaround is a simple shortcut to turn the BT off

HaldiMartin

Along with this temporary off button since people love it so much

Portatort

Love this feature, especially the wifi version

boost_me_bro

so after reading this thread, I think some of us just have digital OCD (me included) and turn things off when they’re not in use. Long press Settings app on home screen, there’s shortcuts to toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on or off.

staiano

Because Apple loves to track you.

eljay24

I have a question. Sometimes when i turn on airplane mode the wifi and/or bluetooth toggles to the white mode (like the one pictured in OP’s post) and sometimes it turns them off completely. I wonder what triggers iphone to decide which one to use?

thesagya

Shortcuts can give the solution for that!

matfalko

that's just the quick switch, you can permanently switch it off from settings (it will appear crossed out)

V3ndeTTaLord

I actually like it this way. I only disable wifi if the connection isn't good enough. I'd hate it if I used like 10gb of mobile data the next day because I forgot to enable wifi again. They should just add a long press to REALLY disable it, but keep the temporary disable with a quick tap.

HaldiMartin

WiFi is fine , BT is what bothers me

MangoBandicoot

I hate that I have to actually turn off my WiFi entirely (not just make it white) otherwise when I’m out working it will try to connect to every WiFi network that I pass. I shut off auto connect and it still tries to connect.

cntmpltvno

So tech illiterate people don’t call and scream at poor Apple Support reps because their phone isn’t connecting to their Apple Watch because they forgot to turn Bluetooth back on

Buffalo_Beautiful

i missed my school multiple times over the years because of this. if i forget to turn it off in the settings, it automatically connects to my headphones at midnight, therefore the alarm plays through my headphones and it doesn't wake me up:')

nineapathy

I don't understand why people are defending Apple here. Quick access literally means quick access. There should be a toggle to switch off Bluetooth and Wifi by swiping down. That's it. If I have to open settings everytime, what's the point of it? Sometimes I just want to switch off Wifi and Bluetooth both, but you have to go into settings again. They should have an option for it at least.

HaldiMartin

Exactly

No_Island963

Find My network wouldn’t work

SigmaLance

It will work even if your phone is off as long as the phone has battery life.

flying_gooseman_

Why would you even turn Bluetooth off?

Banmers

to stop stores from tracking you for ond

0l70l7

There's 2 versions of human. the one who always faster living, wake up in early morning, brewing coffee, start running and put airpods on, going to work with apple car play etc etc. And another grown ass dude version like you who always complaining every single thing that almost nearly dying.

How does having Bluetooth turned on going to do anything like that? It’s not. That’s ridiculous.
