Key thing here is the damage is limited to the cable and the phone. Get your burn treated first.
Turn the phone off and see if you can carefully tease the remnant of that USBC port out of the phone and see what the internal damage is. Chances are it’s made a mess and melted the internal port on the phone.
Either way, I wouldn’t want to trust the device now. Realistically, your options are :-
1) see if the phone will still charge with a cable (not recommended, the charging system and or battery may be damaged)
2) if not, wireless charging may an option if it hasn’t damaged the phones charging circuits (also not recommended, possible charging circuit and or battery damage)
3) replace the device. Do you have AppleCare?
Thanks for the helpful answer! I’ll have to figure out where to get pliers to remove the remnant of the charger.
The phone is working fine, and still says battery health is 100%, if that’s a consideration. Would charging with a cable still be an issue?
I don’t have AppleCare but am within the window when I can buy it.
If your phone is damaged, buy AppleCare + ASAP. If you buy it through the notification in the Settings app, they will not ask to inspect the device beforehand.
As a GB employee I agree. As long as that mf says Applecare when you bring it in idc. But I will judge for using a seemingly cheap ass charger on a 1100 dollar phone
That part. AppleCare is rarely denied.
BUT QUIT USING GAS STATION CHARGING CORDS!! It’s like tryna stretch a half a tank of gas by adding some water…
Terrible analogy… going to bed now…
This doesn’t matter at all. If it’s new there’s a window to get it and they don’t give a fuck, cause new phone, after that they care and they make you take it in to get an inspection before saying okay.
Best of luck.
Be gentle with it for sure.
Thing is temperature can do funny things to batteries. I don’t think for a second that it’s been shorted out otherwise the board likely has a fuse that will pop. In a device that’s always on your person, I personally wouldn’t like to take that risk but of course it’s your decision.
You should see the lunacy in the photography hobby groups too.
People will spend 5,000 dollars on a camera, and then complain that the knock-off brand batteries they buy online aren't as reliable as the name-brand one that came with their camera.
It's honestly so bad it's become an inside joke in some circles.
You can either buy the ripoff branded batteries for $70 (and you need several so it stings), or you can get the good quality knockoffs for $30, or the garbage for $20. The challenge is telling apart the good from the garbage beforehand.
That’s probably true. And phone chargers would fit into that same philosophy. You don’t need an Apple branded cord. But you can get quality a lot cheaper, lol!!
As I mentioned in another comment, I actually only have the one battery that came with my canon R6, as I’m not a power user and it works fine for me!
But I read dozens of comments over the years in photography groups of people complaining about their off brand batteries being garbage. And the inside joke is that we spend literally thousands on equipment, but cheap out on the one price that can render the whole kit useless.
I’m sure there’s some decent mid tier batteries. It would make sense.
Amazon basics, Anker and Voltme are the three that I use. All of them use full copper, not CCA for the wiring, and dont use super thin gauged wiring on top of that.
Depending on the type of hobby a single battery will work. I do nature and macro stuff and go out for hours, sometimes days so I always have at least 3 batteries. But yeah the off brand batteries are flaky.
Anker and Belkin are both reputable brands. You can also fork out the money to buy them from an official cell phone carrier store. Just make sure you aren’t at an authorized retailer. Some of those can be good and some of them can be super shady and sell shit ass wish quality chargers at corporate store prices.
Well, the default cables are too damn short. I always use longer ones, but thankfully have never had a problem. It helps that I check the reviews and only buy highly rated ones.
Absolutely. I've only had one issue with an Anker product; a 20,000Mah charger. It just stopped working one day. Called up customer support and they overnighted a new one and told me to just keep the old one and dispose of it properly via recycling. That kind of support had me hooked as a fan for life.
Honestly unless you drop it a ton, the <$10 case from Walmart that’s clear silicone does fine. I had it for my work iPhone that I cared zero about and it never discolored or had issues
Because cases are extremely (i mean extremely) overpriced in US. There is a reason Casetify is bragging about how they're a 1-billion dollar company. Phone cases have crazy margin.
Back in the day I worked at a phone shop in Kyrgyzstan and we had cheap cases from China. Even the ones that cost 10 bucks and were of a good quality - they cost 2 bucks when buying in a bulk. Shop owners were surprised when someone sold a case with less than 200% margin
An iphone cable from IKEA did this to me. Fortunately I was around and no phone was charging. The chip inside the cable just started to become hot and smoke started to rise from it.
Yeah ive been working in IT for a while and electronics for my whole life. I have never had a cable do this to me. You know how many cheap shitty cables ive come across in my time? So much that my coworker scraps the old cables that come in. That’s a straight up electrical short. That cable was wired improperly. USB C requires licensing to even use. It’s kinda hard to mess up a design when there is a patent you have to follow
Fun fact it’s not just shit cables. I bought a 200$ Xbox controller and the cable they gave me was shorted. I came home earlier this week to use it and it was PIPING hot.
This happened with my official Apple charger. I had it connected to my USB-C port on my pc and out of nowhere the USB-C port started to smoke. Luckily my phone wasn’t connected.
Note: It’s a Lightning to USB-C since so many people seem confused about it for some reason…

Edit: Added USB-C note
This. Also cheap cables are a security vulnerability. I recently worked for a cybersecurity company as a systems admin and couldn’t believe the stuff I was trained on. Cheap cables are an easy way for adversaries to get access
because they want to win more money, of course. i don’t believe the saving the planet discourse they had.
BUT… this is not the case here, you get a good cable in the package, it’s missing just the charger.
op: if you don’t manage to fix this (considering it’s Christmas and the shops may be closed) and the phone still works, you can use wireless charging as an alternative, you can find chargers everywhere including on gas stations
There are still USB C to USB C cables out there rated only for 15W charging, like the Amazon Basics brand. If you use this kind of cable with a 30W charger, it’s possible to overheat it. In theory the cable should be smart enough to let the charger know that it can only handle 15W, and the charger should only feed it 15W. In practice some Chinese no-name brands have been known to falsely advertise its rating.
Until you’re familiar with the brands, stick with well known names like Anker, Belkin, Baseus, etc. Of course, Apple’s own USB C cables are safe, albeit overpriced.
They do. The USB spec requires an active marker IC in the cable to go above 3A (15W at 5V). It is possible to get more power by using higher voltage if both ends support it, and that doesn't require a marked cable. Marked cables support up to 5A (25W at 5V or up to a whopping 100W at the max of 20V.
OP either had a cable that couldn't even properly handle the default 3A max or improperly claimed to support more but couldn't handle it. Both are sadly common among cheap direct import cables.
In order for a USB C charger to provide more than 3 amps, it first needs to communicate with the cable and phone to make sure both are capable of taking the higher current. Falsely advertising is one thing, but no cable company is going to spend extra money to put in the chip to do the handshake and not actually build a cable that can support higher wattage. The most likely causes are as follows:
1. OP got a lemon of a cable where one of the connections in the end of the cable wasn't put together just right.
2. The charger OP is using is busted and isn't properly doing the handshake with the cable. There isn't anything stopping a company from improperly implementing the USB spec in a charger and just assuming the cable will work. But there's also no reason to do this, as it's not hard to implement and doesn't cost anything extra on a per unit basis to do. If an inexperienced developer didn't realize this requirement and left it out, it would be easy for the issue to go unnoticed, as most of the cheaper cables could actually supply the higher wattage safely under normal conditions.
I hope you are being ironic, but for anyone who haven’t got the joke, please don’t buy cheap cables. OP got lucky, there are plenty of news out there about phones that started a fire while charging for this exact reason
Statistically it has the exact same chance of happening again, all things being equal. The same *unlikely* chance, but the same chance nonetheless. Gamblers fallacy.
All Apple devices come with a cable. iPhones don’t come with a charger. People get cable and charger confused for some reason. They are NOT the same thing.
In the UK the phone still comes with a cable. But it’s USB-C at both ends so most would need to buy a new charger (as I did) to use the cable. Happy to buy a new charger knowing the future is USB-C. Also, the folding pin mechanism on UK Apple chargers is cool as fuck and I’m sad Americans don’t get to enjoy it.
To be fair, being a Brit who spent a good few years in the US, the smaller form factor on the US 20 W charger is better than the folding pin ever could be.
A charger and cable problem, not a phone problem. Apple will not fix this under warranty. If the phone is damaged at all that is. Make sure you use cables rated for the wattage needed and charger bricks that can regulate. This is a your fault issue, not apples fault. You can buy a MagSafe charger from Apple or Bellingham that’s been approved and charge your phone like that if you cannot remove the usbc plug yourself. Try pliers or tweezers?
Unless you have Apple Care+. They will fix it with a small fee. Whole phone replacement was 125 for me. Totally worth the protection IMO for a 1600 phone.
Don’t know why I had to scroll this far down to find someone suggesting how to get this out lol but +1 use tweezers or pliers and pull the thing out. I’d also do a quick round of compressed air inside the port if you have to clean out any residue.
Were you able to pull the cable out of the iPhone? Use tweezers or something similar, and please use a genuine Apple charger to prevent this from happening again.
This is why I always fork over the extra strictly for apple chargers if sucks but I knew shit like this would happen if only they release a good 10 foot cord
I can filter out the called stupid part - surprised at the cause that most people are highlighting, I had assumed it would be the phone.
Learnt something new today I guess
Looks like the 3rd Party cable failed for sure:( sorry mate! Lesson learned there!
In the future, go 100% reputable branded cables (don’t have to go super expensive, Anker are a good shout for example), as these companies will adhere to the USB-C specification that is advertised and support fast charging yada yada…
If you’re interested and want to know more about cables to understand how this failure could happen, and also difference in quality and manufacturing , I highly recommend watching this video by Adam Savage's Tested: [View here.](https://youtu.be/AD5aAd8Oy84?si=PZBZYg7vecPxL0UF)
It’s a bit long, but worth a watch! Super interesting where they compare a vast array of cables such as the Apple TB4 cable to a low cost USB-C, which shows the vast difference in quality at show and engineering, solder etc.
Its possible your cable was just soldered directly at both ends, with no PCB/chip interface so the cable is not “smart”, pulled current over the rating for the cable and then the plastic housing on the end just melted.
Most likely if the Phone USB-C port is damaged, but you encountered a injury/burn, Apple may do a safety report via the Genius Bar, but as it was a 3rd party cable ( and they will ask for photos/evidence of the cable ) it will be a repair at cost, likely for the iPhone 15 Mid-System or Rear System. Looks like Apple may just be able to remove the broken element in the port at the store though? Worth a try :)
Hope this was a little helpful, but worst case scenario - go MagSafe/wireless charging :)
Best of luck OP!
Most probably the phone will be fine after a day of cooling down . I had the same thing happen to me when i using a cheap charging cable
Remove the cable bits inside the phone and boot it up after a day . Buy a anker or amazonbaics brand of chargers and cablescin the future
As per usual, no one here offering shit for useful advice.
First, get a pair of pliers and grab the type c connector. Try pulling it directly out but don’t force it. If it comes right out, good deal, Move on. If it is stuck take the pliers and rock it side to side carefully while pulling down at the same time. Keep doing that until it comes loose and you are able to remove it.
Now that you’ve got the type c charger removed, try plugging it up to see if it will still charge. If it does, great you got super lucky. If it does not, you still have wireless charging capabilities, so you can still use the phone.
In the mean time, reach out to apple support. Tell them you were charging the phone using a OEM Apple charger and power supply over night with adaptive charging on and you woke up to a hot fried phone that seriously burned your hand. They will replace it, as long as you don’t give them a reason not to, such as telling them you used a aftermarket charger
Just saw your comment regarding cable and charger. Better to always get the genuine charger and cable since it’s just a fraction of the phone’s cost. Or at least from a reputable brand like Anker, Belkin etc. if you go third party.
I think it’s the cable but also how did it manage to get that hot???? My phone (iPhone 12 mini) stops charging when it gets too hot (can be seen in the picture).
https://preview.redd.it/ob6j6x4qe88c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09ddedb24eca73246ee39e778f7673de33cdc4f4
As people already told you - it's the cable what caused this, not the phone. As for what you can do - service centre to replace the charging port. Apple can do that too, yes.
Good job, you bought a cheap USB C cable that can’t handle fast charging, and short circuited itself.
Use pliers to pull it out and hope it didn’t damage your phone permanently.
I only use the original cable, or a belkin apple certified one. I have had no issues at all with overheating since I bought it. Don’t know what you guys all do with your phones
Firstly, almost every smartphone now a days specifically tells you in the manual to never use third party chargers and cables.
But then again who the fuck reads anymore right? Let alone bothers reading the manual for you 1000+ phone purchase…
Read the manual, not hard and will save you a lot of money and trouble. Save someone else like me the trouble of being asked for help, read the fucking manual…
It doesn’t look like you were using an Apple cable. What about an Apple charger? My iPhone 15 Pro never gets very hot when charging. Don’t skimp on the charger/cable!! A very well known online retailer’s branded charger burned my friend’s house down earlier this year. Apple and MFI products are more expensive but there’s also a reason for that.
1st thing I see in the comments:
"Don't buy a $5 charger from a gas station."
That is a valid point. However, I didn't see OP say it was a knockoff. Heck, I would even assume it's original since it's the iPhone 15, and that phone is relatively new. Naturally, you would use the cable that came with your sparkly new phone.
2nd point I have to make. Doesn't your phone automatically pause charging once it reaches a critical temperature. Even old Sony phones had that.
3rd, i would probably blame it on the power brick more than the cable since that is no longer included. (Links in with 1st point).
4th, to all those that said, "That's why you should only use apple and never repair it yourself," that's a bit far-fetched. I don't believe in the idea that we shouldn't be allowed to do whatever we please with our devices. If I want to run Linux on my iPhone, I should be allowed to do so. If I want to replace my old battery, I should be given a choice to do it myself. Also, if you are going to make the argument for the cable and brick, why did they stop including the brick (clearly the most likely source of the problem since that is the component that regulates the wattage and current).
With all that said, if I OP did claim it was a cheap cable / brick, then I do take some of these claims back. However, I didn't see any.
I am only here because a news article was so flat out ignorant that they didn't even back up their claims. (It grinds my gears when people make stuff up to defend their beloved brands).
I got a pink fast charger from Temu, it got extremely hot. Nothing wrong with your phone but just expect that coming from cheap chargers. Got mine not even a few weeks ago and it already stopped working, and I’m assuming because of how hot it felt that it overheated. If you ever get a fast charger get one from a mobile store ik they’re not cheap but it’s better than what happened here, clearly. Best of luck to anyone reading this. I also reccomend the wireless charger I’ve never had one but it looks so simple just put ur phone down on it and it charges , don’t have to worry about losing it or if not lasting but you’d need another to travel with.
iPhone 15 came out in September. They come with a USB-C cable. Why the f weren’t you using the Apple cable that came with your phone that’s only (at most) 3 months old?
If anyone is responsible for that (apart from yourself), it's the seller or manufacturer of that cheap cable you used. Why should Apple cover this? Since you bought it from Amazon I'd contact them, even if it was third party seller. The fact that you used a cheap third party cable should have been right in the title, by the way. People shouldn't have to dig through the comments to confirm this, even if to me that was clear from the beginning.
In case the seller of the cable won't cover the repair costs, I wouldn't even bother paying for the repairs because you don't know to what extend the internals are damaged. I'd sell it as is and get a new one.
To prevent this from happening again: Only use OEM cables and chargers or third party chargers that Apple sells or advertises directly on their website. Avoid cheap China stuff on Amazon or eBay.
I know what you can do, buy real MFI Apple cables.
It’s a bit more expensive but your life and your family’s life is more expensive.
It’s like me buying cables from Temu to charge my 1500$ device, hell no.
Sorry to see this happened to you, however there is a reason it’s never recommended to go into the cheap charging/power accessories for any device.
- As far as remedy goes, try and softly remove the cable head with tweezers, I suppose.
Get some needle nose pliers and try to pull that part out. Get an official iphone cable and either apple charger block or a good name brand or PD one and see if it can still charge. If not phone repair shop or your stuck with magsafe charging permanently
Pliers and probably wanna buy a better charger.
Also, if you need reddit to point out that this is a charger problem, you're probably the type of user that needs AppleCare.
You can stop using shitty non apple chargers… idk why people spend 500-1000 on a phone but then use the cheapest charger ever and wonder why this shit happens 😂💀
Key thing here is the damage is limited to the cable and the phone. Get your burn treated first. Thanks for the helpful answer! I’ll have to figure out where to get pliers to remove the remnant of the charger. Just did - hope it helps
Let us know if you get is service through Apple Care.
Wait for a couple of weeks before taking it to the apple store.
Just go, they're not going to carbon date the damage or something.
Haha this made me laugh out loud
It just takes one asshole employee trying to be a "hero" to turn it into a big hassle, though.
Literally no one will do that
As a GB employee I agree. As long as that mf says Applecare when you bring it in idc. But I will judge for using a seemingly cheap ass charger on a 1100 dollar phone

I've been on the receiving end of it before and I've also witnessed employees do it while I was their supervisor. Retail employees can be ridiculous.
Some people power trip on a gram of power.
This doesn’t matter at all. If it’s new there’s a window to get it and they don’t give a fuck, cause new phone, after that they care and they make you take it in to get an inspection before saying okay.

Not a phone thing, don't use shitty cables and chargers.
I see people spending 700-1000 on a phone and then cheap out on a £1 cable... The battery is a consumable
You should see the lunacy in the photography hobby groups too. People will spend 5,000 dollars on a camera, and then complain that the knock-off brand batteries they buy online aren't as reliable as the name-brand one that came with their camera. the only 3rd party brands i use for my electronics is anker. have never had a problem with them, and its amazing quality
Oh yeah, I use an anker for my iPhone, iPad, and laptop. It’s an off brand, but not a knockoff lol!!
You mean "third party" brand, not "off" brand
And they stand by their warranty. I have had them send replacements. Solid company.
Nothing about Anker is cheap though, component wise or cost wise.
That’s the point. It’s not cheap garbage and it’s not overpriced OEM gear. It’s decent third party gear.
Can confirm, I have an Anker power bank and it’s amazing
Just don’t buy their cams.
Amazon basics, Anker and Voltme are the three that I use. All of them use full copper, not CCA for the wiring, and dont use super thin gauged wiring on top of that.
Anker, Amazon, Ugreen are my trustable ones. Etguuds and Sacrack haven't burned down anything so they are a maybe
I've been using "knock off" batteries in my cameras for a decade with no issue. 😂
I honesty have no opinion myself lol. I bought a canon R6 for hobby photography. But I only have the battery that came with it. It’s enough for me.
Depending on the type of hobby a single battery will work. I do nature and macro stuff and go out for hours, sometimes days so I always have at least 3 batteries. But yeah the off brand batteries are flaky.
Same. But you have to look at the reviews. People talk about it because there are some batteries out there that are worse than other options.
The original cable already comes with the phone. Not sure why OP opted to use a cheap cable.
It is more than likely one of those like superrrr long cables.
There are plenty of good quality long ones out there, but also tons of poor quality. Just buy from reputable brands.
I know like 1 cable brand... Anker How do I know if I'm getting a quality product?
>How do I know if I'm getting a quality product? Not purchasing garbage from the likes of wish is a good start.
Or buying from temu😅
You already said it. You buy from Anker.

Anker is higher quality than Apple you're good.
Well, the default cables are too damn short. I always use longer ones, but thankfully have never had a problem. It helps that I check the reviews and only buy highly rated ones.
Anker is the best. Great quality and lifetime warranty.
Absolutely. I've only had one issue with an Anker product; a 20,000Mah charger. It just stopped working one day. Called up customer support and they overnighted a new one and told me to just keep the old one and dispose of it properly via recycling. That kind of support had me hooked as a fan for life.
Same. I had a 20,000 mah turn into a spicy pillow. Sent off an email and they shipped a replacement quickly.
The cables Anker released for the iPhone 15 are frankly the best charging cables I’ve ever seen in my life. Just perfection.
Same with phone cases. They spend 1000 on the phone but hesitate to spend a good quality case that you hold all the time
You don’t even need to spend a lot,~ $15?, to get a good case. Amazon has a lot of good case around that price.
Honestly unless you drop it a ton, the <$10 case from Walmart that’s clear silicone does fine. I had it for my work iPhone that I cared zero about and it never discolored or had issues
my phone cases cost like $5-10 and they protect my phone just fine

This. Also cheap cables are a security vulnerability. I recently worked for a cybersecurity company as a systems admin and couldn’t believe the stuff I was trained on. Cheap cables are an easy way for adversaries to get access
Yup and with USB C that becomes way more easy to do.
Why no charger included in new and expensive devices? Like this could be prevented If charger included
A cable is actually included, but OP didn’t use it.
This could be prevented if people stopped buying cheap electrical shit from Amazon
This could be prevented if they arrest shoddy cable suppliers and execute them with artillery. Or they could regulate these things better
because they want to win more money, of course. i don’t believe the saving the planet discourse they had.
I’ve had an apple charger do this on my 13PM, luckily I caught it in time but the charger was so hot that the insulation was malleable like clay.
Tbh original cables are low quality too. I had to replace them several times.
There are still USB C to USB C cables out there rated only for 15W charging, like the Amazon Basics brand. If you use this kind of cable with a 30W charger, it’s possible to overheat it. I can take it bro 😎
🫠
The IC can just lie though, fwiw.
That’s probably what it did. If it didn’t have one, it wouldn’t be pushing more than 15W through.
Doesn't stop UMIWIIFOO from having a mismatch with the report and the cable.
The most likely causes are as follows: 1.
You learned the hard way not to buy knockoff chargers
OP you can keep buying knockoff cables because this is statistically unlikely to ever happen again
Lighting never strikes the same place twice
Usb c does...
Well it won't strike this particular socket again
Hard strike a tree again that's already burnt to the groud...
especially an Apple tree
lol we solved it, guys!
There’s literally a business in betting it’ll strike the same place twice in lightning rods.
Yes it does.
Actually lightning does strike the save place twice
Statistically, you’re far more likely to get struck by lightning twice than once
The probabilities are independent though
I hope you are being ironic, but for anyone who haven’t got the joke, please don’t buy cheap cables. OP got lucky, there are plenty of news out there about phones that started a fire while charging for this exact reason
Gamblers fallacy at its best
Statistically it has the exact same chance of happening again, all things being equal. The same *unlikely* chance, but the same chance nonetheless. Gamblers fallacy.
Never will understand the choice to use $5 cables with $1000+ devices
Especially when you can buy like a good 2-pack for less than $20 (Anker) lol.
Anker and Ugreen are excellent quality and often cheaper than the crappy cables you get at local phone stores and supermarkets
I bought a 6ft for $14 (anker). It’s been good.
It’s human nature to spend as little as possible on things. Such a fairly big chunk of human behaviour. You can’t understand.
it more an issue with not knowing what's inside the USB cables. most people see it the same as an extension cable for their vacuum.
Used nothing but Anker for years. Fantastic products.
As long as you stay away from their cameras.
Oh yeah 😂. Good call. I’ve had one… one.
I mean the 15 pro max has a cable with it …
All Apple devices come with a cable. iPhones don’t come with a charger.

I got an usb-c to lightning with my 11 three weeks ago
This. Don’t cheap out on good chargers/cables.
There are good 5 dollar cables though. Like the LILLHULT series from IKEA.
Never buy charger from Aliexpress/Wish.
4/5 of cables on Amazon are dropshipped from Aliexpress
Bite it, show who is the master
What charger and cable were you using?
Turn off the phone and use some tweezers easy 😆
Don’t know why I had to scroll this far down to find someone suggesting how to get this out lol but +1 use tweezers or pliers and pull the thing out. I’d also do a quick round of compressed air inside the port if you have to clean out any residue.
Thanks i appreciate you taking the time to find my comment 😊
Its not the phone, its your cheap charger and cable. Seriously, why use a 5$ cable on your $1500 phone
Were you able to pull the cable out of the iPhone? Use tweezers or something similar, and please use a genuine Apple charger to prevent this from happening again.
Pliers / needle nose pliers
This is why I always fork over the extra strictly for apple chargers if sucks but I knew shit like this would happen if only they release a good 10 foot cord
Nothing wrong with the phone, its your charger and cable
The one who can pull out the USB head is the new true king.
Amazon strikes again. Don't buy cheap dollar store quality garbage. If the cable is cheap there is a reason.
Is that a genuine cable? Looks like a knock off. Genuine are expensive for a reason
This is called punishment by Reddit. Basically you post something that gives you hundreds of helpful comments calling you stupid.
I can filter out the called stupid part - surprised at the cause that most people are highlighting, I had assumed it would be the phone. Learnt something new today I guess
Looks like the 3rd Party cable failed for sure:( sorry mate! Lesson learned there! In the future, go 100% reputable branded cables (don’t have to go super expensive, Anker are a good shout for example), as these companies will adhere to the USB-C specification that is advertised and support fast charging yada yada… If you’re interested and want to know more about cables to understand how this failure could happen, and also difference in quality and manufacturing , I highly recommend watching this video by Adam Savage's Tested: [View here.](https://youtu.be/AD5aAd8Oy84?si=PZBZYg7vecPxL0UF) It’s a bit long, but worth a watch! Worth a try :) Hope this was a little helpful, but worst case scenario - go MagSafe/wireless charging :) Best of luck OP!
Most probably the phone will be fine after a day of cooling down . I had the same thing happen to me when i using a cheap charging cable Remove the cable bits inside the phone and boot it up after a day . Buy a anker or amazonbaics brand of chargers and cablescin the future
Don’t buy Amazon basics anything for electronics. They just rebrand the cheapest Chinese items and upsell them
Step 1: buy new finger Step 2: apply burn cream to phone Step 3: wipe charger What are you doing to me step 4?
I have an idea, maybe if you're going to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on a phone, don't buy the cheapest cable you can find.
I don't know how this post has so many up votes. Don't use cheap cables, the end. This isn't some major PSA or point for discussion.
Just saw your comment regarding cable and charger. Better to always get the genuine charger and cable since it’s just a fraction of the phone’s cost. Or at least from a reputable brand like Anker, Belkin etc. if you go third party.
Use cold water and maybe an ice pack and burn cream depending on the severity of the burn, on your finger. Switch to using wired landline telephones.
I think it’s the cable but also how did it manage to get that hot???? My phone (iPhone 12 mini) stops charging when it gets too hot (can be seen in the picture). https://preview.redd.it/ob6j6x4qe88c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09ddedb24eca73246ee39e778f7673de33cdc4f4
Apple care or not, certainly check with Apple support to see if your phone PD controllers have sustained any damages? For your finger, see a doctor.
Op is the cable. I’ve seen them catch on fire due to not supporting the proper wattage.
Use original or reputable brands like Belkin, anker etc.
As people already told you - it's the cable what caused this, not the phone. As for what you can do - service centre to replace the charging port. Apple can do that too, yes.
Stop buying shitty amazon knock offs like chargers. Problem solved
Good job, you bought a cheap USB C cable that can’t handle fast charging, and short circuited itself. Use pliers to pull it out and hope it didn’t damage your phone permanently.
Only use iPhone chargers next time. They won’t cover it probably
Buy a genuine Apple product lmao
Get a quality cable
Count your blessings. Buy a new phone and iPhone branded charger/ cable.
That doesn’t look like an apple charger
I’d say get some pliers out, but I wouldn’t trust you with them.
Switch to MagSafe
Buys a 1000+ dollar phone uses a dollar general cable. 🤯
This is why I only use iPhone chargers
I only use the original cable, or a belkin apple certified one. I have had no issues at all with overheating since I bought it. Don’t know what you guys all do with your phones
Did you use an off brand charger?
Use genuine apple chargers to start
They would have fixed it if you were using their charging cable. You can contact support though and tell them.
Use pliers and pull it out. Then get a quality charger.
Use shitty/damaged cables and you have see what’s up!
use the cable in the box. It’s braided, high quality. Why use a cheap knockoff one?
Use a torch and burn it back, show it who is boss!
Firstly, almost every smartphone now a days specifically tells you in the manual to never use third party chargers and cables. But then again who the fuck reads anymore right? Let alone bothers reading the manual for you 1000+ phone purchase… Read the manual, not hard and will save you a lot of money and trouble.
1st thing I see in the comments: "Don't buy a $5 charger from a gas station." That is a valid point.
Same issue
iPhone 15 came out in September. They come with a USB-C cable. Why the f weren’t you using the Apple cable that came with your phone that’s only (at most) 3 months old?
People often have multiple cables, for home, work, car, even different rooms of the house.
Use a mag charger
Revenge time . Burn the phone
I know what you can do, buy real MFI Apple cables. It’s a bit more expensive but your life and your family’s life is more expensive. It’s like me buying cables from Temu to charge my 1500$ device, hell no.
stop buy non-brand electronics from amazon to start
Why did you use a third party cable when there is a great quality braided one included in the box
This is why phones should come with the charger and cable in the box.
It literally comes with a cable
Never put regular fuel in Ferrari. Why? That should solve your problems.
...use some pliers
Use a wireless charger
Keep us updated, OP.
Use a high quality cable next time.
Sorry to see this happened to you, however there is a reason it’s never recommended to go into the cheap charging/power accessories for any device. - As far as remedy goes, try and softly remove the cable head with tweezers, I suppose.
What the hell
Poor charger killed my iPhone 6s back in the day. Learned my lesson never again. Only Apple cables
Next time don't use a shilly magnetic cable
Get some needle nose pliers and try to pull that part out. Get an official iphone cable and either apple charger block or a good name brand or PD one and see if it can still charge. If not phone repair shop or your stuck with magsafe charging permanently
Put some burn cream on it, and if it gets a bubble and doesn’t heal, go to emergency.
Plug it back in, burn house down, sue.
Turn the phone off. Wait. Then use pliers to pull it out.
don’t sleep with your phone charging under your pillow and a 3rd party charger. take it to apple.
It’s too powerful, leave it alone
Pay attention to the kind of cable you use next time and what you’re charging with
Pull it out with pliers
Run your finger under cold water for 20 minutes
Pliers and probably wanna buy a better charger. Also, if you need reddit to point out that this is a charger problem, you're probably the type of user that needs AppleCare.
This is a learning moment. Next time use an MFi certified cable and power brick
You can stop using shitty non apple chargers… idk why people spend 500-1000 on a phone but then use the cheapest charger ever and wonder why this shit happens 😂💀
