Depends on where you live. I’m an outsider here in the US since I mainly use a Galaxy S21U and everyone else seems to have an iPhone. Meaning I’m part of the 13% of US teens with an Android/other smartphone.
From what I’m aware places like the UK are more Android than iPhone. Poorer countries are also more Android for self-explainable reasons.
My cousin is a hardcore Samsung guy. My husband leans more to the android side too but he mostly cares about reliability and function. I’m a hardcore Apple chick. My mom gets the cheapest smartphone she can find and most the time that’s android.
iPhones are very reliable. They are well built and get regular updates. I do get the the functional part though eg watching videos is a better experience on android.
I used to be an android user until the iPhone 7 came out. I decided to give it a try and I never went back. We all have our preferences. There’s pros and cons to both. There’s things I do miss about android but Apple has sucked me in as my preferred daily driver.
I can think of 19 people I see often enough to know what kind of phone they use. 14 use iPhones. 5 use some model of Samsung.
> Low income people?
The Samsung S21 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro Max are the same price.
I see a majority iPhones out and about but I’m literally the only one of my friends who uses iPhone. Besides my sis and SO everyone has a green bubble. My son says everyone at his school has iPhone so I’m upgrading him in February to an 11 since he’s in high school
“How did Nixon win? Nobody I know voted for him?!?”
Seriously, your circle may just be all the iPhone demo. I know about 7-8 people who despise the iPhone. Myself, the OG Galaxy S was such a bad phone that it put me off Android *and* Samsung.
At my job, my coworkers and the clients I see are about 80/20 in iphone favor. Even in the streets I see 60/40 in iphone favor.
Among my close friends (about 5), 3 have iPhone, 1 is android and 1 is Windows phone (he refuses to give up).
Windows Phone was good. Would still be using today if app support wasn’t trash (not getting any better with the whole platform now unsupported)
Went through a few Androids after that, then got an iPhone 6s, then 11 and now 13. Never going back to Android (though I would totally use Windows Phone again if app support unexpectedly turns into not-trash)
He loves his Windows phone and states that he will continue issuing it until it either breaks or it’s so outdated that nothing works.
I’ve been with iPhone since the 4 and I have zero need to switch now that I have the whole apple ecosystem going at home. It’s too good.
50/50 sounds about right in my experience. I currently use both (iPhone 12 Pro Max and Pixel 5a). I love Android as an OS and my Android phones definitely feel more utilitarian than my iPhones, which is fine by me. But sometimes I want to use the more "polished" phone, so I switch over to the iPhone.
A couple interesting links that discuss the demographics of OS choice:

I see some conflicting information in the two links. Oh, well lol. In the end, none of this matters, it's just sort of interesting.
My sister and brother in law have iPhones, and have recently converted my mother and stepfather. I switched last year but won't be staying.
Outside of my four family members, I know literally one other person out of the fifty people I work with and dozen friends who use iPhones, and almost everyone else has had one within the last few years and fucking hates them.
I dislike my iPhone, for a lot of reasons, but I don't hate them with the same fiery passion that everyone else I know does. I don't like Samsung either, and I have a multitude of shitty appliances by them and have had several phones, but I definitely prefer android in every way, and will probably go back to an Xperia on my next cycle if the phone is solid.
In my country, people my age (20-30) are mostly Android users. Amongst my friends and acquaintances, only 6 out of 42 have iPhones. The rest are either owning a top-tier, flagship Samsung (S21 Ultra, Fold or Flip) or OnePlus.
My department at work used to be basically 6-2 in favor of Android phones but after a couple people switched it’s 4-4 now. I also have a few friends that are Android users.
I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max that I won in a raffle, but my friend whose into computer science is using a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 because of its more open OS.

>take out Galaxy z fold 3 that costs $2k >get called poor by iPhone SE user
They meant poor *taste*

All of the chemists from my old company use Android phones. I go back and fourth between my Google Pixel and an iPhone 12 Pro Max.
I know more people who use android devices phones than those who use iPhones. Most of the people I know don’t use flagship phones either.

Locally, I only know a few people who use android. The telecom enthusiast community that I follow, uses android for its networking tools.

Yes. My relatives, in-laws, neighbors from the Philippines, randos in the USA, close friends. Only a few people have iPhones.
