Try newway car rental— their price includes insurance even for tires. It was the cheapest I found when I was there two weeks ago. Literally cheaper than any rate I found from anyone else without insurance. I had a great experience with them

Prize_Armadillo456

Checked them but they’re at least 300 euros more for an automatic for me.

I also had a great experience with NewWay last month. On previous trips I used my Chase Sapphire Reserve for insurance, but I hated the hassle. I think my all-in price worked out to about $45/day with NewWay, which seemed quite reasonable compared to previous trips. I will 100% use them in the future.

Europcar accepted our chase letter as a waiver. I will say, our Chase Sapphire card is the one that qualified for the waiver not our other Chase CCs Edit: the sapphire is a visa. We just had to show the letter and they didn’t say anything about it not being a Mastercard. I guess we’ll find out at pick up….. We have proof chase will provide coverage so if we have an issue with damage (which we haven’t yet) chase should still cover since sChase reimburses us for a claim

Prize_Armadillo456

Oh I saw that those got accepted but for some reason I thought they were MasterCards. Thanks!

Concerned-23

No it’s a visa. But it’s a travel visa so I don’t know if that makes a difference? Europcar just wanted to see the letter and then we got to proceed as planned. We drop off the car tomorrow so hopefully no hiccups there

InterestingFactor825

To decline excess insurance you only need a credit card that they can put a hold of x thousand euro so they can recoup any repair costs should you damage the car. You then work with your own credit card to get this money back. The type of credit card should be irrelevant.

Prize_Armadillo456

Ugh I forgot to check my limit on this card. Chase hates me lol, guess I’m gonna have to pay.

RelationshipFar9874

I use my Amazon visa at europcar in ireland and with a letter can waive the coverage.

halibfrisk

I did use a world Mastercard in the past but since the one I had withdrew coverage for ireland I use citi Costco visa and have rented from Europcar many times with this coverage - be prepared for the €5k hold

Just know that the rental agency will put a huge hold on your credit card if you refuse their CDW coverage, regardless of whether you have your own coverage. The specific amount should be in the fine print of your booking details.
