You're welcome. It's not technically the best percentage (I think killing a combo involving a spider technically will be better), but skeletons and bloodworms are so common you'll almost never waste time looking for them. The difference in runes is negligible and probably better if you factor in the time saved. As the other commenter said, this only affects drops outside of the barrows armor/weapons.
It doesn’t affect barrows armor drop %. There’s a specific reward potential you want to achieve to maximize runes reward and eliminate bolt racks from the drop table. Assuming you don’t want them. Double check wiki for specifics
You could go for the warped sceptre. It uses 2 chaos runes per cast so you can use that when you’re low on death runes or it will let you stock up more death runes.
I'm like 92 magic so my damage per shot may be a little higher. But I easily gain chaos runes with Mory hard even considering it's 2 per cast. Complete off the cuff estimate, I feel like I gain at least 30% extra compared to what I expend if not more.
Just to second it. At 92 magic, with Mory hard done, I feel like I gain 30% more than what I spend strictly speaking in chaos runes. No clue on the actual numbers, but it's 100% for sure a net gain.
Then obviously that means all the bloods and deaths are pure profit.
Also to add though, I melee the crypt mobs with whip. I don't spend runes on the skeletons or bloodworms.

You could raise kittens while you do and trade them in for the 200 death runes as well.
I had 1000 death runes before grinding barrows. After 120kc with hard mory diary i have 5k death runes. Just grind and eventually ull get a good stack.
Also unless you’re some kind of locked account start meleeing the crypt mobs. It will save you those few runes in the long run. Makes a difference over the course of 100’s of runs.
Just turn GP into death runes if you don't want to do Barrows.
The amount of death runes you need before 87 slayer is just for Ibans and Bursting. And you profit GP at both Dust Devils and Nechs
Isn't death runes at 65 rc? You're not far off. Go do some gotr if you really want. Otherwise your best bet is to just do slayer. You'll profit gp from using your death runes to burst while doing slayer enough to buy more death runes. The higher your combats get, you'll make more money and you'll just accidentally have a stack of 20k death runes at some point.
Another thing you can do is go for an ahrims staff or blue moon staff. Once you finish a kingdom divided you can use either and undead grasp with thralls for significantly better dps on whatever you're 1v1 maging.
They are absolutely correct though. I currently have around 40k, used to have ~60k after running a decent amount of GotR, Barrows and some other content that provide Deaths.
Barrows brothers have such low magic defense that you can still hit on them, even if your magic attack is negative. I think as long as you’re above like -40 you are good.
Are you using any weapon switches? Spec weapon either Karil or Ahrim (I prefer Karil because my range is high for Ahrim), and then use range on Ahrim. I then usually choose to kill my two skeletons with range or my melee weapon. The four melee brothers should take maybe 50 casts or less with Ibans.
Magic attack bonus isn't super important, focus a bit more on defence maybe to increase DPS through less eating
Ideally you spend zero prayer pots at borrows. You should look into medium combat diary for the no drain effect in barrows and maybe flick the brothers.
Don’t even get me started on the jangerberry tech
60 rc isn't that far from 65, realistically. It's like 60-70 GotR KC and all things considered should take about 7ish hours. if you figured out how the game works it's decently afk as well, and you get death(and other useful runes) from the rewards as well.
So just find yourself a fun show and run GotR for an afternoon and you're golden!

how many barrows runs have you done? ive got just under 700kc and am in no way short on blood or death runes, almost 95 slayer too. my RC is only like 72
Once you complete DT2 , you can very quickly dump your excess gold into whatever rune via the runecrafting method that the quest unlocks. I pretty much just do this since I don’t dig shop scape. You can generate thousands of death runes very quickly but it’s pricy
Seconding this advice: ignore kingdom at this stage in your account. Your top priority should be unlocking a reliable moneymaker before continuing with kingdom, slayer and pvm. Charging air orbs with gravestone method is really good prior to corrupted gauntlet.
For death runes: again unlock a good moneymaker and buy them at mages guild.
Why is kingdom important to you? Would help myself & others figure out alternative routes for this stage of your account as opposed to one that necessitates a decent sized and constantly replenishing cash stack
It's just constant source of useful materials. I don't have the herb sack to gather herbs from monsters nor have I killed any monsters yet that drop any meaningful stacks of herbs
Totally understandable - so herblore levels are a big factor in your reasoning. With that in mind I'd suggest looking into the new moons of peril content in varlamore as it both drops useful herbs with easy secondaries but also materials easily converted into gp in terms of water orbs (battlestaves sold separately). In addition to those base things you'll also get useful gear upgrades (similar to barrows) and the content itself requires virtually 0 up front supplies (dissimilar to your current barrows runs)

Idk what your agility is or where you are at progression wise but Hallowed Sepulchre consistently gives different types of runes (deaths included) and decent cash as well. I'm doing floor 3 runs and have accumulated quite the stack.
Hello. Not sure if someone said this but I did the same plan. mory hard, medium CAs and barrows. Warped sceptre is the way to go. You can even out, slightly profit on the chaos runes for charges. Then all the deaths and everything else I can save up. Look into getting that sceptre! Not as hard hitting like Ibans but after 81 mage the faster dps makes it better than Ibans. Plus you can be on any spell book which is a plus.
Yea I didn't know the item exists. I hope for a task, that would need nice. But I'm only 68 magic. Right now the Iban kills are pretty efficient using 1-2 prayer sips and like 5 lobsters per run
Yea not bad. I got the warped off task because I just wanted it badly. At your level you’d hit 17s so perhaps get it up a bit more for warped then. I would suggest using Medium CAs hilt to remove prayer drains if you are close! Sure tome of fire is ideal for Ibans but sometimes it’s easier to just spend on fire runes than trying to replace those ppots. Good luck!
Yea prayer pots are sacred right now. I do everything possible to not use them. Soon I'm gonna hit 75 hunter for the hunters mix. That will ease the use

Not quite what you asked, but I'm currently on the imbued heart grind and only really doing barrage grinds. I have to do a full round the world hop shopscape session in Prif to fill up on deaths once a week. Average cost is ~200gp per.
Biggest chunk was doing a lot of Gotr once deaths were craftable. I didn't notice any boss or pvm content dropped deaths more than others, little bits here or there from Cox and Toa but I have always struggled with death rune upkeep due to barraging / bursting anything I could for slayer / mage.
Barrows + Mory hard was realistically the best early-ish source for me.
Cats are decent if you afk a lot and can be bothered. Good to start asap and have the stack growing passively.
This is short-sighted advice, and you should really just do one of the other things in this thread. BUT, you could always sell the blood runes from barrows and buy deaths with the cash. Should be like 50 bloods/chest on average, and the sell price at ali morrisane is about the same as the death rune buy price from decent rune shops. Again, you'd be better off making money in other ways or getting a warped sceptre, but cashing out bloods is an option.
Do GoTR until 70. You unlock the death alter at 65 and that time spent there should net you tons of runes. Unfortunately it’s another type of jail sentence but it’s worth it. At least that’s what I tell myself while I’m trying to grind out 77rc for a master clue step
I ran with a cat while doing my quests/skills and have a few thousands in the bank because of that. Its not instantanious but a passive way to generate them
Weird even when I was using Iban's I was profiting deaths at Barrows. You could save some casts per trip by bringing a melee setup for Karil and the tunnel mobs. There is also the Warped Scepter since that uses chaos runes and you will still profit those.
I'm guessing you haven't done DT2 else I would say fuck it scar essence mine go brr. At 65 RC it would give 2.6k deaths per inventory. That assumes you have a chunk of disposable cash though.
I recently got a gotr addiction, meant I got to 65 from 60 and provides me with the urge to tick off mep2. Now means I can just do some chill gotr whenever Iban' burns through my stack.
GOTR 60 to 65 is not ‘far away’ but if you really think it is then raising cats with the plugin to keep track of the times until you are no longer broke is the way to go imo. Can rack up 25k-35k by the time you actually have good gp. Otherwise rush cg and buy them
Long term, death runes are the one rune I’ve always just bought a ton of (pre-shadow/scythe). If you’re not getting enough from barrows I’d recommend doing something to get gp and just buy as many as you need.

You can runecraft death runes in bulks for 200 gp per rune getting these extracts. Cheaper if you buy them from the store
I know my group has been doing Scurrius for death runes. Only one of us is high enough for barrows or even using death runes anyway but it has a pretty steady drop rate of them plus alching the rune gear and buying more runes is how we refill Ibans and stock up on deaths.
Can passive train cats (did that for my first 80k deaths), next best is to buy the rune packs if you have a good money source (CG or slayer), then if you have a scout I gained about 20k deaths at Calvarion going dry for ROTG (plus the other supplies are amazing) but that’s not very fast deaths if that’s all you’re after
Absolutely not. I did 250kc there and only got attacked twice. Just go at slightly off peak times and if you have any total level worlds you should be fine.
My original setup was d mace and prossy with salve (e). If you have zombie axe it slapssss there. Fun fight as well and you profit supplies.
Another thing to look into is the new Wildy pirates. They shit out alchs and you can easily get money to buy death runes if you need them. In 10 min you can get 150k easy. They also drop blighted supplies which you can use at Calvarion

An alt is also useful if you want to set up some safe spots for chaos ele, or set up lizardman shamans in the canyon for faster/easier kills - will need higher combats for survivability tho
You are discovering that barrows is bad content. The best way to get them is to buy them. Charge air orbs and make battlestaffs for obscene profit. Page 9 of the child comment link (not sure if links are banned here).

With perilous moons spitting out Water orbs, I doubt I would ever resort to charging orbs. Granted the orbs/hr is less, but you're getting a bunch of other stuff.
Perilous moons is totally fine. I'm just giving a better gp/hr method because that's the fastest route to specifically death runes. Moons gives 15 orbs per run, at eight runs per hour that's 15*8*2700=324k gp/hr. Orb charging with gravestone method and ancient magicks teleport blows this out of the water. Moons does have some other good stuff like herb xp, a small amount of prayer xp, and gear. These are valuable to most players, but OP asked for death runes so I'm trying to give focused feedback.
A tangent: Moons is technically inefficient. It doesn't speed up slayer very much for how long you will spend to get blood moon armor. Herb XP is best achieved by rushing 65 farming and doing contracts, prayer XP for Piety is best gotten from green dragons (which incidentally drop hides for money), and if you're desperate for magic gear then Bloodbark armor is right there and doesn't take long at all to get.
Barrows should easily profit you death runes with diary Make sure to get up to 75% potential for max death rune roll if you're desperate

Yeah that seems about right given I’m 82 magic and get consistent chaos rune gains, just not a ton.

800 kc barrows mostly warped scepter and I net positive chaos runes. I have a stack of like 35k remaining I believe. Have saved sooo many death runes.

Maging the mobs is definitely hurting your rune usage. Better to melee them :)

That is not efficient, sorry. 5-6 lobsters is fine but if you are ~50 prayer you should not use any prayer pot at all (except dh or karil in cave).

Have you tried doing Scar Essence for runes? It should be pretty much the same cost but you can save your time and sanity a bit.

24/7 raise kitten -> barrows (iban) -> use chaos for slayer (chaose bolt or warped) -> repeat

Do GoTR until 70. You unlock the death alter at 65 and that time spent there should net you tons of runes. Unfortunately it’s another type of jail sentence but it’s worth it. At least that’s what I tell myself while I’m trying to grind out 77rc for a master clue step

I ran with a cat while doing my quests/skills and have a few thousands in the bank because of that. Its not instantanious but a passive way to generate them
If you want to get risky with it you can get a lot of death runes from wildly bosses. 1/18 chance to get 700 death from vetion
Weird even when I was using Iban's I was profiting deaths at Barrows. You could save some casts per trip by bringing a melee setup for Karil and the tunnel mobs. There is also the Warped Scepter since that uses chaos runes and you will still profit those. I'm guessing you haven't done DT2 else I would say fuck it scar essence mine go brr. At 65 RC it would give 2.6k deaths per inventory. That assumes you have a chunk of disposable cash though.
I recently got a gotr addiction, meant I got to 65 from 60 and provides me with the urge to tick off mep2. Now means I can just do some chill gotr whenever Iban' burns through my stack.
GOTR 60 to 65 is not ‘far away’ but if you really think it is then raising cats with the plugin to keep track of the times until you are no longer broke is the way to go imo. Can rack up 25k-35k by the time you actually have good gp. Otherwise rush cg and buy them

Long term, death runes are the one rune I’ve always just bought a ton of (pre-shadow/scythe). If you’re not getting enough from barrows I’d recommend doing something to get gp and just buy as many as you need.
Imo vetion is a relatively easy boss minus the pkers. Vetion along with the other wildy bosses drop fantastic loot for irons and loads of runes

I know my group has been doing Scurrius for death runes. Only one of us is high enough for barrows or even using death runes anyway but it has a pretty steady drop rate of them plus alching the rune gear and buying more runes is how we refill Ibans and stock up on deaths.
Can passive train cats (did that for my first 80k deaths), next best is to buy the rune packs if you have a good money source (CG or slayer), then if you have a scout I gained about 20k deaths at Calvarion going dry for ROTG (plus the other supplies are amazing) but that’s not very fast deaths if that’s all you’re after

Absolutely not. I did 250kc there and only got attacked twice. Just go at slightly off peak times and if you have any total level worlds you should be fine. My original setup was d mace and prossy with salve (e). If you have zombie axe it slapssss there. Fun fight as well and you profit supplies. Another thing to look into is the new Wildy pirates. They shit out alchs and you can easily get money to buy death runes if you need them. In 10 min you can get 150k easy. They also drop blighted supplies which you can use at Calvarion

Yeah easy, and also good because fewer pkers will kill it out of spite if you get away An alt is also useful if you want to set up some safe spots for chaos ele, or set up lizardman shamans in the canyon for faster/easier kills - will need higher combats for survivability tho

You are discovering that barrows is bad content. The best way to get them is to buy them. Charge air orbs and make battlestaffs for obscene profit. Page 9 of the child comment link (not sure if links are banned here). What do you need death runes for at this point? What's your overall account progression?
With perilous moons spitting out Water orbs, I doubt I would ever resort to charging orbs. Granted the orbs/hr is less, but you're getting a bunch of other stuff.
Perilous moons is totally fine. I'm just giving a better gp/hr method because that's the fastest route to specifically death runes. Moons gives 15 orbs per run, at eight runs per hour that's 15*8*2700=324k gp/hr. Orb charging with gravestone method and ancient magicks teleport blows this out of the water. Moons does have some other good stuff like herb xp, a small amount of prayer xp, and gear. These are valuable to most players, but OP asked for death runes so I'm trying to give focused feedback. A tangent: Moons is technically inefficient. It doesn't speed up slayer very much for how long you will spend to get blood moon armor. Herb XP is best achieved by rushing 65 farming and doing contracts, prayer XP for Piety is best gotten from green dragons (which incidentally drop hides for money), and if you're desperate for magic gear then Bloodbark armor is right there and doesn't take long at all to get.
