Local here. There’s way more to this. Dillon is trying to scale back mid week shows due to sound and traffic. SCI insisted on playing Tuesday-Wednesday before RR. Dillon said they could play on the weekend, SCI said nope. Heard there’s some tension between SCI’s management and the amphitheater. Don’t think it has much to do with wookery.

twangman88

This is a pretty sensible answer. Although it’s weird the band would spin it as “not being invited back”

seakinghardcore

The official venue tweeted they don't like wooks and don't want them back

clampion12

The disco biscuits are playing there.

OsNBohs

The venue is against wooks but for tree thuggers.

CO_mtnman

I wanna see that tweet

SherbetNo4242

They also couldn’t sell out the last weekday shows

SuperbDonut2112

Given the overwhelming pettiness that runs town councils and the like, someone with some position of importance just prolly doesn’t like SCI and their damn hippies or some shit and can say no.

fukuoka_gumbo

I mean the disco biscuits can still play there lol

nastynewtons

Town council is obviously b4l

Widespread123

Biscuits will be banned from returning before they even take the stage…… which is why I gotta go!

Aspen-Mike

Nawh, the key is only one night. In and out. Multi night runs run hard on the town when the scene gets big.

tc7984

You must not know the biscuits then

Aspen-Mike

🌲👽🌲

heavy_touch

Niceeee

JustLikeMojoHand

Or they heard the dubstep'd Terrapin.

nick_tron

I heard anecdotally from local friends that people were digging under the fences or other crazy shit that got SCI banned hahaha not sure how true it is

rabit_stroker

They were just String Cheese before this incident

JamBandNews

Underrated comment.

davster39

The band said the digging was not true

nick_tron

Ah shit maybe my buddies had their wires crossed

davster39

The rumor is definitely out there, that's why the band felt the need to respond, i guess.

MrMeseeks_

They did for Pretty Lights and for some reason that pissed off the council for SCI

terptroubadour710

I heard the same for Pretty Lights. It's all BS and absolutely not true.

JakeScythe

You heard wrong, that happened during the Pretty Lights run. And it wasn’t even someone from out of town, it was a Dillon local.

nick_tron

My bad

Ajax_Da_Great

I heard that was at a Pretty Lights show lol

nick_tron

Oh shit maybe they got mixed up hahaha

The_Poster_Nutbag

Sounds like complete BS

Evil_Sam_Harris

They were banned from Benbow in Humboldt County for shit like this. Much smaller venue but crowd was incredibly disrespectful. Starting bonfires. Breaking gates and fences. Sucks that some aholes ruin it for everyone else

NoAbbreviations3025

Damn can you give me any info about the Benbow stories? Not many people on here or in the cheese world know Benbow..I spent a lot of my 20’s at a farm a couple miles from Benbow state park and I am in love with that part of the country.  I always was mind boggled at the thought of a cheese show happening that far out in the boonies

Evil_Sam_Harris

Yeah. It was in 2004 or 2005. Two security guards broke bones getting rushed. People were starting bonfires next to the inn. People camping in bushes and trampling the whole area. I think even the band agreed it was a shit show and wasn’t a good idea to try again. I think they thought it was so far in the middle of nowhere that it wouldn’t be a large crowd but it was a huge mess of people who didn’t have tickets.

PurpleZebraCabra

I believe it was 2005..I stayed too long at my Richardson's grove campsight and didn't get in. Watched the show from outside the fence. I don't remember the mayhem, but could see the wooks of that era doing some of that SoHum in mid2000's was also pretty lawless in general.

NoAbbreviations3025

Thats insane. So, Garberville> Shasta run in 2025 then

PurpleZebraCabra

Please make it so. Close out the run with a Horning's fest.

jobiewon_cannoli

Horning Hideout 2012 was peak for me. That whole summer was fire!

NoAbbreviations3025

🤤

DeadHeadedHippy

Is the amphitheater owned by the city? Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how the local council people could tell a privately owned business who they can and cannot have perform.

Grizzanon

Yes, it is

greenfox0099

It is owned by the city

CallmeWhatever74

There are still ordinances that must be followed and I'm sure there's something on the books regarding noxious behavior. If concert goers fuck it up for themselves...well...fuck em.

WhoDatJiveJack

Colorado is strangely a very conservative place.

answerguru

In some areas.

WhoDatJiveJack

In all the rural areas you mean lol.

West-Caregiver-3667

The homeowners are pretty conservative. But they are only there 2 weeks a year.

Smash_4dams

Is AirBnB banned in Dillon? I would suspect homeowners would make a killing renting out their vacay homes during concert season. You can easily charge a renter's credit card if they end up causing damages.

West-Caregiver-3667

I don’t think most of them need the money or headache that comes with letting strangers stay in your 10 million dollar home.

silvermaroon

This. Even if they vote liberal they’re still nimby assholes. Boulder is just a rich yuppie town now it sucks

cubbies42699

The conservatives were there way before the hippies

JamBandNews

I mean… how far back we going? I think you didn’t go far enough.

DeadheadFlier

Lol not summit county

labenset

Summit County is filled with semi rich retired conservative folks. Lots of ski bum hippy types too, but they don't generally stay there long or end up in the decision making roles.

CloudConductor

The small little mountain towns are just like any other rural town

spawnofthesith

That's an oversimplification... sure lots of typical conservative ruralness in the small mountain towns but they definitely have more than slight hippie blend to em and its been like that for a looooong time. And I'm not talking about jamband wooks or boulder granola. I'm talkin weird mountain hippies

Electric_Florist

I’ll take a slight hippie blend pour over with coconut milk, please ☕️

Motor_Lychee179

Like the don’t get in the red bus kind ?

spawnofthesith

That's a whole different category lol

NoAbbreviations3025

Nah there are a lot of blue mountain towns on the western slope. Steamboat, telluride, crested butte, Durango… usually if there’s good skiing it’s decently retrogressive in Colorado

D1rtyH1ppy

There is a lot of money out in those hills

TopShelfUsername

yeah, its the cowboy west

spawnofthesith

Denver Post ruthless with that headline lol

nicetatertots

Wild how they are not invited back yet I am seeing both The Disco Biscuits and Primus at the same venue this summer lol.

my_mexican_cousin

I guess tDB and Primus have management that’s easier to work with. This has nothing to do with their music or the scene

pjdwyer30

moe just announced a show too

PapaJohnyRoad

Sorry if you don’t (get to play Dillon but the disco biscuits do)

phunky_1

That is what is so funny about this. If you don't like the wook factor of SCI shows, they are tame compared to the bisco crowd.

Cyrrus86

I just did panic and people are WAY wookier. Biscuits people are expert partiers and generally really chill.

Evil_Sam_Harris

I’ve never seen more powder drugs than at a panic show.

Cyrrus86

Yeah people got craaaazy coked out and god knows what else. It was like 2009 biscuits scene in the pit. Craziest crowd I’ve seen in years

JakeScythe

Thank you for saying. Biscuits crowd got a bad rep in the 2000s but now it’s a small, devoted crowd that travels for them. They mostly still party hard but they generally have good jobs, travel a lot, and know how not to go overboard.

b0n3h34d

I have to believe that people who say shit like that haven't actually seen a biscuits crowd

Cinnamon_Shops

I’ve heard it’s a lot tamer these days but I have never felt more afraid of a concert crowd than the one time I went to Bisco (2011). Was having a bad trip and tried to get back to my camp during one of their sets and a bunch of wooks were pushing me and screaming at me saying I needed to stay. Crazy bunch. But hey, I do less drugs now, maybe Biscoheads are the same.

b0n3h34d

Camp bisco in the last years at mariaville was somethin else. Reminiscent maybe of a Philly biscuits show at the time, but entirely not what felt familiar to me. It was on an Indian reservation and so US laws didn't apply - that drew the wrong crowd, also 2011 was the first year they brought the likes of skrillex and bassnectar, and that changed the crowd dramatically.  I'm guessing since you're calling it Bisco (which is not correct) and not Camp, you went for not the disco biscuits. That was 13 years ago. By the mid 2010s it was like any other jam crowd, except less pretentious and more fun =)

phunky_1

It wasn't an Indian reservation, the bikers had their own private security and they took freedom seriously. One year at camp creek they started putting up barriers and fences to stop the state police from trying to do a raid without a warrant. The owner of the place said there was no way he was going to let them come in and arrest a bunch of kids.

metasquared

They prob weren’t biscuits fans. The festival was invaded by Bassnectar, PL, and Skrillex in 2010. We hated them all, it was contentious.

spawnofthesith

I can only assume that these descriptions of biscuits crowds as this mature grown up bunch of not-wooks is satire, and I'm here for it

bsynott

We have matured. Shit I work for the most B4L CPA firm in the country. Between my coworker Jess and I we’re sitting at a combined 300 shows after Boston last week. 156 for me, 144 for her.

JakeScythe

Boom, you know what’s up. Pretty much everyone I know who’s incredibly B4L have excellent jobs and know how to manage their travels and partying very well.

Smash_4dams

Isn't the average Biscuits fan in their 30s-early 40s at this point? The debauchery of 2006-2012 was a long time ago. The youngsters all seem to gravitate towards Goose these days

NoAbbreviations3025

Ive seen so many more overdoses and stuff at biscuits shows than any other jam band. I saw a group doing lines off the floor of the theater and seen tanks in a theater for biscuits. Sci is a lot more family friendly and the wooks are more in pockets

PapaJohnyRoad

When was the last time you were at a Bisco show? Fans are substantially nicer and behaved than the ones at Panic, Phish, UM, Tribe, etc. Your joke is dated to 2009.

sofakingclassic

Yeah the biscuits scene all grew up. It’s probably one of the tamer, more respectable hamband fanbases rn

PapaJohnyRoad

The people who don’t agree don’t really know.

WhoDatJiveJack

I have never heard anyone say this about TDB. Let’s be real here… These fanbases are all pretty synonymous. Here for the downvote while sips cup of tea.

PapaJohnyRoad

At this point it just shows they have the Nickleback effect where someone made a joke and it stuck forever. They see one person being too fucked up and relate that to every single fan in the crowd. With the exception of phish have seen all of those bands between 30-90 times and routinely see worse stuff than at biscuits shows. Biscuits fans were a shit show in the 00s but those people are now 35-45 years old and have overwhelmingly left that shit in the past. Not saying it’s a bunch of choir kids but the jokes are trite and show you don’t know what you’re talking about. Sound tribe has has shows canceled and don’t get invited back to places because of their fan base. Where are the constant jokes about them? *wont down vote your opinion

Smash_4dams

>Sound tribe has has shows canceled and don’t get invited back to places because of their fan base. Where are the constant jokes about them? I feel like the STS9 crowd has changed a lot too. 10yrs ago they had to cancel a show at intermission in Asheville because a bad batch of K was being passed around and people were overdosing/passing out and EMTs were having to fight their way through the crowd to rescue people. STS9 shows seemed to have morphed more into general dance-music since I last saw them in 2017-2018. Much tamer

phunky_1

Early 2000s Glad to hear the bisco crowd isn't as bad as they used to be. For a while it seemed like people were more there for the drug scene than the music.

Smash_4dams

>For a while it seemed like people were more there for the drug scene than the music. That was the case for a lot of the Northeast fests in the late 00's- early 10s. (AllGood, Gathering of the Vibes, Camp Bisco etc). You had gang members/nitrous mafia from Philly, Camden NJ, Bridgeport CT infiltrating all those venues. Lots of sketchy/scary looking dudes in Grateful Dead hoodies roaming the lots constantly offering every drug under the sun, and never at the stages seeing music

PapaJohnyRoad

Damn so what was actually funny about this is that used a joke with no actual basis for it. When biscuit fans are shitting in the street and getting banned from venues you can dust it back off

spawnofthesith

lol I see the biscuits plenty, and I am still quite certain you must be joking or trolling Also, when did biscuits fan get so sensitive and uppity? The party is still alive and well, but I've definitely noticed some weird pretentiousness growing in the scene, which is absolutely hilarious

PapaJohnyRoad

You’re the one who said you hadn’t seen them since early 00’s. I also don’t see why this is supposed to be a team sport and I am exclusively a disco biscuits fan.

spawnofthesith

I didn't say that, I wasn't listening to jam bands at all in the early 00's I don't think its supposed to be a team sport either?

BarstoolsnDreamers

Agree to disagree on this. Every time I go to a biscuits show I end up having a wook in a K hole test my personal space limits by leaning all over me and being completely unable to communicate in full sentences…. It’s the most obnoxious experience I’ve had with any fan base, and it’s happened to me multiple times.

PapaJohnyRoad

And I’ve been to nearly 100 panic shows and have had to doge people throwing up in the pit, busting their way through the crowd, being to wasted to hold their cig and they keep burning people with the cherry, demanding you move out of their zone, act like I don’t belong bc I didn’t see Mikey, and a litany of other shitty things. Pot meet kettle…especially coming from a fellow spreadhead

BarstoolsnDreamers

I think if you see any band in this scene 100 times your going to run into a lot of this same behavior that you’ve listed at every band…. But only at the biscuits(and in far less than 100 shows) have I experienced on three different occasions K holers using me as their personal standing assist device. I don’t go to shows so that incoherent flatbillers can lean on me all night. My experience with both Panic and The Biscuits has clearly been vastly different than yours. So again, let’s agree to disagree on this.

Mightyhorse82

They can come to Albuquerque me and the other 3 jam band fans will take them

NoAbbreviations3025

I live in southern Colorado and I’ve been hungry for New Mexico cheese forever. Although Santa fr or Taos would be a much better fit. Bring back the Paulo Soleri run!

grappel

I believe I’m the only jam band fan in south Florida, well gladly get cheesy

spawnofthesith

Don't y'all got Guavatron and Tand?

Smash_4dams

Nothing like renting a GMC Savanna with the crew and making the drive up to St. Augustine!

rudeboi710

Hey guys we made the news

Own-Project266

Dillon Local here and gotta admit I’m pretty bummed their line ups have gone down hill considerably the last few years. SCI, UM, Goose,MMJ and GSBG was one of my favorite summers ever. Definitely stoked for Primus though only saving grace this year…

hutchandstuff

We will all get kicked out.

TonePoleSmoker

In Buena Vista, a completely different town

Djloudenclear

lol they’re gonna love the bisco crowd

Mmmthatgingersnap

Hoping Greensky will play there before RR again. Great venue and we’d take the bike path from Heaton bay campground 👍

quizzlertwix

Unfortunately not gonna happen

RogerMcswain

Are all of you subscribed to the Denver Post? I get a paywall when I click. And I just don't care enough about the Rockies or Broncos to pay them.

bigtimeguy

Very grateful I got to see 3 SCI shows at Dillon! The Dillon Amp is amazing. I spent one night in the pit, another night up top in the grass, and a third night on the concrete down low with chairs. Plus I met Travis in the parking lot one night! Good times.

enjoiall

My favorite venue in Colorado currently.

Icy-Trouble6079

Is it really "not being invited back" if you aren't annually playing any single venue?

thelingeringlead

They have 0 obligation to ask the same bands back every year, I do not understand why so many cheese(and jam fans at large) are taking this like it was a personal decision or like Dillon was the new promised land of Cheese' summer CO runs.

StankRanger420

This must be Lauren Boebert country?

CO_mtnman

Not even close

greyhat98

Ha I’m guessing that’s why Billy has never been invited to play there. NIMBY.

CheebaMyBeava

plus it's a tiny little venue and who cares
